HP Proliant NAS Software bluescreen

Hi there!
We have an old HP Proliant NAS computer at my work. We don't use the NAS functionality anymore, so I've exported it as a virtual machine in VMWare instead to use it as a PDF printer. But as soon as I boot the virtual machine, I receive the following error message:
"The server you are running cannot run hp ProLiant NAS software properly. You may be in violation of your license agreement. Please contact HP support immediately if you think this message is displayed in error. The server will Blue Screen in one (1) minute."
And after one minute the machine bluescreens. I've tried to delete everything that has to do with the NAS software, but it seems like I can't get rid of everything, because the error message pops up anyway. I've tried to call the HP Support Center, but they couldn't help me because we don't have any warranty left on the machine. So could someone just tell me how to uninstall the software I no longer need?
Best regards,
Jonathan Larsson

Seems like I figured it out. I uninstalled a service called "ROM". It's pointing at an .inf file called "ROMCheck.inf" under system32\drivers. This is the content of the file:

  • Best video format for converting DVD to NAS for widely sharing

Summary: The article shows you with an easy workaround for
copying DVD to NAS for streaming by ripping DVD to NAS friendly video
    format on Mac and Windows
I recently purchased a NAS to store all my music/photos etc on. I
can stream stuff to my iPhone/iPad using the NAS software. What I want
to do is rip all my DVDs (over 400) to my NAS, but I’m not sure which
format to do it in, to play nice with my Apple TV2, Xbox 360, iPhone,
iPad etc. I wanna get some advice as to what format to rip in and what
    software to use?
Learn some tips from online, I got know that to copy dozens of DVD movies to NAS,
you need to get the content off the DVD disc as a protection-free and
easily readable element for NAS. In this case, at the first place
powerful third-party software for backup DVD to NAS is what you need.
There are many, many DVD ripping tools on the market. I’ve tired a pile of them.
    Brorsoft DVD Ripper
is the best one I’ve tried yet. It is capable of ripping DVD to MP4,
AVI, MKV for NAS streaming with no quality loss; it also enables you to
copy DVD main movies for backup onto NAS in .vob format. And what I’ve
learned is that MP4 would be one best target format for it is fully
compatible with nearly all media devices including iPad, iPhone, PS3,
Apple TV, etc. If you are running on Mac OS X, turn to  DVD Ripper for Mac. If you haven’t got the software, download it now and let’s start the conversion.
Ripping and copying DVDs to NAS
    1. Launch the DVD ripping program for NAS devices . Then
click "Load DVD" to import the DVD files you want to convert. To select
the subtitles you like, simply click Subtitle and select the one you
prefer. P.S. Before start the conversion, you can choose to backup DVD mian movies.
    2. Click Format bar and choose your desired format. To store
hundreds of DVD's on NAS, you can rip DVD to .mp4, or .avi, .mkv, etc
compressed format. And click Settings bar, you can adjust the level of
compression to suit the quality you want.
Tip: If you like, you can click “Settings” to change the
video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. Keep in mind
the file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution
which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible
    quality loss, and vice versa.
    3. Press the "Convert" button to start ripping DVD for NAS streaming.
After the conversion, click Open button to find the output files.
Make sure the wireless network connection is accessible among the NAS
and Apple TV, PS3, HD TV or other media players. Then just enjoy the
high quality DVD movies anywhere anytime.

I've always found encoding with Handbrake and choosing the Apple TV2 preset is an excellent place to start and video encoded using that preset will work on my iPhone 4, 4S and iPad 2.
If the files encoded using that preset are too big for one's taste they can always encoded at a lower average bit rate rather than using the default 'Constant Quality' of 20.
Later on I'm sure the Handbrake group will have an AppleTV '3' preset supporting the 1080p format supported by the ATV3 and iPad '3' but using such a preset would not create a file usable on the iPad 2 or the iPhones.

  • WVC210 and Motion Detection/NAS Device

I was using the CSWVM Software (latest) with my WVC210 and leaving my PC on all the time.  I had the camera recording 24x7 to a folder on my PC but only when it deteced motion.  Thsi was working great.
I invested in a NAS device (QNAP TS-239 Pro II) and want to have all motion deteced recorded directly to the NAS so I can leave my PC off.  Since without the PC on, I did all configuration thru the web interface.  All I seem to lose access to is the scheduling.  I can get the camera to record ALL activity to the NAS with no problems.  While trying to get the motion detection working, it seems I can't get it to record anything to the NAS.  I am fairly certain I have everything configured per the Admin guide but still nothing.
Under Applications/Motion Detection I have Enable Motion Detection in all positions checked and set the area as full screen and threshold in the middle.  I do not get anything to record to the NAS even with the Enable SMB/CIFS Alert checkbox checked and NAS login, etc configured.  The ONLY way I can get anythign recorded to the NAS is with the option under Applictions\SMB/CIFS cgecked (Enable SMB/CIFS Recording).  With this set it records EVERYTHING.
In the sensitivity section, I rarely see the red bar appear even when action is in front of the camera. I am not sure why.  I know this should work, any ideas why it is not?
Also, I noticed if I record to the NAS at 320x240 I get an AVI I can play in Win7 WMP with no problem.  Using 640x480, the AVI is unplayable in WMP and I have to use VLC Player.  Is the codec different depedning on the resolution?
    Thanks!

Thanks for the info.  I do have the interval set to 0 and have tried the slider on both ends.  I have the slider set all the way to the left (on -) which provides the most sensitivity. I still don't not get all motion captured for some reason.  For this reason, I am recording full time to the NAS.
I agree the web interface is lacking and I am not sure why it doesn't work the same as the software.  If it did, I could only record on motion and capture what I need instead of just alerts or everything.  With the software it was nice to capture motion and just get activity (and all of it from stop to start) recorded.
My NAS surveillence software does not handle the WVC210 but I have gotten it to record full time but with that option I get no audio so that is no good either.  Motion from the NAS software didn't work all that great because camera is not supported with the NAS surveillence software.
Arrgh.  I don't want to leave my PC on.  If only the web interface worked like the software.  The playback of 640x480 vs 320x240 in the web interface stinks too.  It has to use different codecs.

  • ITunes password for NAS server.. Arrrrgh!

    Heeey guys,
I'm having a huge problem with itunes, and after i have been trying to deal with it for the last 3 hours, it's driving me nuts..!
I have a Qnap NAS server with build in iTunes server, works like a charm on my computer and xbox 360 - at least until tonight.. I wanted to access the server on a new laptop, I clicked the nas under shared drives, iTunes prompted for the password and accidentally I mistyped one character but had already checked the "remember password" box, and BAM - iTunes remember the WRONG password and the server won't let me in.. Everytime i click the server from the shared drive, it just load for a sec and throw me back to the main music folder on my computer, dammit..!
I have absolutely no idea of how I get iTunes to promt for pass again or how I can change/manage password..?! Why is it so hard to make that feature apple?!
So i REALLY hope some of you have the answers, I'm officially lost on this one!
    Best regards
    -And
PS. I have uinstalled / installed iTunes a million times now and deleted everything named itunes i the documents folder without any luck..

The problem is itunes remembers the password the first time you type it in,
No it doesn't because iTunes doesn't use passwords except for the iTunes store which has nothing to do with the NAS.
I wanted to access the server on a new laptop, I clicked the nas under shared drives, iTunes prompted for the password
No it didn't. The QNAS server prompted you for a password to access the server. The NAS saw it was a new computer attempting to access the NAS and asked for the password.
The NAS software is controlling access, not iTunes or the laptop.
Your issue has nothing to do with iTunes.
You need to access the NAS administration software and reset the password for the other computer there.
Apple, *?! This is such a ridiculous programming error.
Actually, it is a fairly standard PEBKAC error and easily fixed.
Open the *QNAS Finder* application then double click on the NAS to access the QNAS admin screen.

  • Why does Mountain Lion hang on certain tasks until my NAS wakes up?

For whatever reason, when I launch iTunes or switch users, my Mac Mini (late 2012) just waits until my NAS wakes up. iTunes icon will just bounce and finally open only after my NAS (Synology DS211+) wakes up. When switching users, it will hang on the gray screen for ~10 seconds until the NAS wakes up. What's causes my system to seek my NAS for these two events? How can I disable this besides preventing my NAS from going to sleep?

When any drives are asleep the system will hang for a few seconds until all drives spin up. This is quite normal. Turn off the feature in Energy Saver preferences and in your NAS software, if possible.

  • Any clue whats going on with time machine?

Of course I found all kinds of info about not to use seagate for time machine AFTER I bought the NAs110 blackArmor, but since I now own it, I need to try and use it.  Time machine seems to work fine with the device as long as the computer is active. If the machine is in sleep mode or idle, it can't access the drive without a logon error. It will regularly error out saying it couldn't log on and therefore couldn't perform the back up. But as I use my iMac, it has no problems. I don't let the machine log off when not in use, I just let the display go to sleep. Does this make any sense to anyone?

Haven't heard of that problem with that NAS (or any other), but that's one of the downsides to using a 3rd-party NAS with Time Machine.  The interfact between the NAS software and OSX may be tenuous.
I'd suggest searching here and/or via Google for references to that NAS, and perhaps contact the maker.

  • Time Machine error "The backup disk image could not be created"

I'm trying to back up to an external hard drive on a home network (not Time Capsule). Time Machine appears to recognize the drive, and the correct amount of free space on it, but fails with the error "The backup disk image could not be created" after a lengthy "Preparing" wait. What's going on? Other applications are able to access this drive with no problems.

I know Apple won't support other makes of NAS, but this post I found from Pondini worked for me.
Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Check your Computer Name at the top of the System Preferences > Sharing panel.
It must not be blank; it should not be more than 25 characters long; and you should avoid punctuation, spaces, and special characters.
After changing it, click the Edit button and make the corresponding change to the Local Hostname.
If that doesn't help, apply the same rules to the name of your Time Capsule and Network, via Airport Utility.
It was really as simple as that (after I had done such things as delete the sparsebundle file, created a new one, zeroed-out the new one, nightmare!)
Problem seems to be with OS X's naming of Macs when you first set it up, as it creates a hostname "<yourName>'s Mac Book." When the NAS software (mine anyway) creates the sparsebundle image it replaces the spaces of the hostname with hyphens and strips out the apostrophe, which is never gonna work.

  • Finder can not use samba service

    Sorry
I have the question, the MAC LION 10.7 ,use finder to connect the NAS,for example leekun001(samba),but response connect fail, but MAC 10.6.8 is OK, can you get me the suggestion

I already update NAS software,It can not solve the problem, but I use the wireshark to monitor the package, can see Mac 10.6.8 call the samba services package,Mac 10.7 is no package for samba service,it may be the Finder internal service problem

  • Edit iPhoto library from 2 computers ...

    Hi,
I want to edit my iPhoto library from my 2 computers:  my iMac and my MacBook Air.  I have a Time Capsule that I use for backup purpose with Carbon Copy Cloner but not as Time Machine destination.
I found this link that explains how to be able to edit my iPhoto library from 2 computers.  I wonder if I can use my Time Capsule to put my iPhoto library ?  I am not able to change the option to «Ignore Permissions on this volume» ... of my Time Capsule.
Can I use my Time Capsule to share my iPhoto library ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Robert Lespérance

Is there any NAS drive that I can use with the «Ignore Permissions on this volume» selected for this purpose ?
    No.
The NAS software will prevent this, and the file system will be wrong.
You need the File System Mac OS Extended (Journaled) to prevent ambiguous filenames and pathnames.
And iPhoto is not supported on network volumes. See http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS5168
iPhoto libraries should be stored on a locally mounted Mac OS X Extended drive for best performance.
You are risking data loss and poor performance on a network volume. iPhoto has not been designed as a network database.

  • Best way to share Itunes on network - WD My Cloud?

    Hello,
I bought a WD My Cloud (NAS) hoping to use it to centralize my music and photos on my home network. I read a bunch of threads and decided to put my Itunes media folder on  the NAS. Getting all the files there was painfully slow. I am not sure if they got all copied at all. Accessing them was just as slow if it worked at all. Anyways, I gave up the idea, this was back in January. I now have more time and resetting my NAS to try this again. But before I embark on this adventure again, I wanted to know if this the best way. If not, what would be.
    thanks,

I have no idea about speed.  The problem posts I have seen did not mention speed.  The main library file (iTunes Library.itl) itself is a relatively small file so speed will likely more be a factor of other traffic.
I can't say a specific factor is an issue with NAS, but I think it may have to do with communication and the fact that iTunes is not talking directly to the drive but instead to NAS software which then passes on the message with varying degrees of success.  I have no idea how Apple programs iTunes but probably they don't sit down and test it with every model NAS out there.  For all I know they may not even test it with any NAS since I don't think Apple sells NAS.  I wouldn't really expect them to test it against anything except what they sell and meeting general specifications.  Anyway, the fewer steps involved the better which is why you don't see the same problem reports I see with NAS from people who use simple external hard drives formatted to Mac.  That's not saying you can't get it to work with NAS but you're moving farther away from shore and into uncharted waters.

  • Time Capsule and Time machine hangs my mac

I read through the first 20 pages to see if anybody else was having similar issues but then gave up so apologies if this is repeated.
OK here goes. I bought a TC 1 TB plugged it in, worked no problem and did so for ages. None of the problems mentioned by other people.
Recently I had a backup fail. At the time I had installed time machine editor some time previously and set it to back up once a day which it had been doing with no issues for weeks.
Reading the help topics I re-selected the TC in TM and off it went preparing - backup failed. Restarted both Mac and TC and tried again. This time it started the backup got to about 70GB and hung my mac - nothing worked had to hold the power button on the mac to get it to restart.
Plugged my mac directly into the TC to get a GB connection. Deleted the TC drive and reselected it. 70 (ish) GB failed and hung my machine. Checked the logs found the same file failing, excluded it from backups, deleted the drive started again - 70 ish GB failed again hung machine.
Rand apple support, was asked to do a few things. First hard reset the TC, second check permissions and repair on the mac hard drive. Third re-index the mac HD - then delete the TC drive and start again. 70 GB mac hung - warning server disconnect - backup failed.
Restarted TC and Mac, deleted TC drive, start again, 70 GB fail.
Now, the only thing that is going through my mind and im reaching here a bit is that about the time I started having problems was the same time I bought the new expansion to a game - World of Warcraft. I do play this daily and have been during the backups, I have been keeping an eye on the backups while playing and although they do appear to stop incrementing the machine is fine until I try to exit WoW. When I do the machine hangs (only does this when TM is running).
I am running out of ideas now, seem to have tried everything backups constantly failing at around the 70GB mark no more files needing to be excluded, the errors seem to be losing connection to TC server.

I ended up with a few days of talking to Apple support about this and here is how it went and this is what we tried.
Managed to get the TM to backup a full backup. The next backup failed and after that could not mount the bundle.
Deleted the drive started again, hung around 80% - same problem.
Deleted and renamed the drive - this seemed to work and full backup completed. Next backup failed.
Removed all of the 'offending' items from backup - i.e. pretty much anything that had ever been mentioned in a support forum, e.g. parallels drives, Aperture loads of stuff - no difference.
Complete reset on old time capsule - held reset button for 20 seconds while plugging power in. Deleted and renamed the old drive. Re-installed the firmware.
I excluded almost everything on the mac hard drive to make for a quick backup. It backed up fine but failed on next backup at which point the sparse bundle could no longer be mounted.
Apple still thought the problem was not the TC but something it was trying to backup.
Re-installed OSX. Removed everything from backup - i.e. excluded everything so it had nothing to backup. Then gave it 1 file to backup.
Backed up fine then failed at next backup.
Apple sent me a new replacement TC - removed everything (except parallels drive) from exclusions - plugged it in selected it as destination has been working fine ever since.
Now, Apple sent me the replacement with a not saying do not return old faulty equipment. So I got a new shiny replacement and my problem is solved.... however I am a curious sort and cannot figure out what is wrong with the old one. Its network is fine, I can use the drive as an external drive no problem (i.e. plug it in and mount the drive by connecting to server) but TM fails if I try to use it for TM backups.
The machine is a NAS, what I am trying to figure out is where is the NAS software held? is this part of the build of the harddrive or part of the firmware?
The reason I ask is, you cannot reformat a TC, only delete the network drive you create with various setting for secure delete. BUT, if you look at a TC drive it is NOT the full size of the drive within the TC. Also, there are at least 3 partitions on the drive, So I assume that the other 2 are the NAS side of things. My opinion is that one or both of the NAS partitions is corrupt, but we have no method of rebuilding these and no method of reformatting the entire disk.
I have read that you can remove the TC drive and reformat it using disk utility, but what happens when you put it back in? is it still a TC? does it still have the TC NAS functionality?
What I think is missing here is something in Airport utility that allows you to rebuild a TC from scratch. I assume the reason it isnt there is to ensure that people can't build their own TC's and have to buy Apple's, but surely Apple could build this into Airport utility so that it recognises a genuine TC and allows a re-build and/or re-format?
I am going to continue messing with the old one, to see if it can be fixed, if not it will either become the most expensive airport extreme I won or at least a Network attached disk for my PC's.

Instead in Hong Kong, the rumor is the another way round.
My opinion, if you watch Video a lot then choose 60G, but I were you, I will go for a 30G plus a Shuffle (easy carry for running even under the rain weather) in addition with a water-proof case

  • [Solved] Move Software RAID 5 Array From NAS To Arch

Edit: I probably never had a problem at all, the error in dmesg probably just scared me, because after I disconnected it I noticed that /dev/d127 was 8.1 TB, the exact size of my RAID array node in my NAS which was /dev/md0, I just overlooked it. I reconnected it to my pc and mounted /dev/md127 to /mnt/raid and got this wonderful sight!

    data lost+found meta sys
    [bran@ra ~]$ ls /mnt/raid/data/

I bought a Thecus N4520 a few months ago and it's ok but programs crash a lot and they're hard to debug, apps have to be updated manually and the whole thing is moderately underpowered. I'm trying to move the software RAID 5 array from the NAS to my desktop, the kernel seems to detect that there is a RAID array but all these drives aren't part of it. I'm pretty new to RAID and I'm just getting my feet wet with it.
When I try to assemble the RAID array, it just tells me that it isn't an md array. How can I get it to build my array?

Sorry I numbered them to show the flow of information, this was also just a place for me to store info as I worked through it. I managed to get it to work by creating a partition that takes up the whole drive and is actually 22 GB larger than all the other drives (since I found out that the had root, swap and home partitions that are no longer needed).
I should be able to resize the other partitions without a problem, correct? They're EXT4. Should I unmount the raid array and do them individually, remount the array, let it sync and do the next? Or just unmount the array, resize all of them, mount it and let it sync?

  • I have a Netgear NAS which uses  Stora software. Mavericsks will not let me install the software as it is not from an approved developer. Is there any way around this?

There is, but why do you need the s/w installed? The NAS should have a web admin interface, accessible via ip address (http://<ip address>) which should allow all the needed configuration that is required for it to work with machines running os x.
Try to install as little s/w as you need to do something in Mavericks or any OS as it is usually the cause of future issues or problems.
If you're intent on installing the s/w, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General and If you have tried to run it before, it should be listed there. You can then "un-block" it should you wish.

  • Bluescreen after failed software update-2nd int HD disappeared

    hi
i started software-updater on my macpro. updater was hanging for 10 minutes, so i quitted the application. after that, no other programm would start, no reaction at all, even not jumping in dock, unable to shut down the computer the normal way. i did a hard shutdown. after that, i was faced the first time in my live with the bluescreen, no progression...
Booted with installation disc, repaired permission, checked drive with diskwarrior - did not help.
also, my 2nd internal disc with a clone system does not show up, neither in disc utility nor diskwarrior...
luckily i have a 3rd, external system (10.5.6), from where i can boot. there the systemprofiler (options, S-ata), says: not able to read s-ata configuration due to a problem...
i didn't change any hardware, nor was i adding other external equippment.
the problem occured after i used sofware-updater to check for new versions.
    i'm stuck.
    any help welcome.
    cheers christian

I Would try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Utility reports and if DU was able to repair them.
    Then Repair Permissions.
I know this is basic stuff but it may help. I have had no issues using Software Update on all three of my Macs. I do keep them highly maintained though.
