HP ProtectTools software

Hi, I recently purchased a HP Compaq nc6220 P/N PV139PA#ABG.
It came with no HDD or caddy & was BIOS protected, which I cleared after disassembling the notebook to get to the battery. Grr
I have since purchased a new HDD & caddy for it & after numerous attempts still cannot get the BIOS to detect the HDD.
The new drive has been formatted & partitioned several times in an attempt to get it to work, but alas with no success.
I have been told that it could be the HP ProtectTools software, but as there is no HDD where do I go from here?
Thanks in advance for any assistance with this issue.

  • HP Drive Encryption Software

I am helping a friend setup their new laptop, but cannot find any information on what's needed to setup the Drive and Email Encryption software, only the basic information on the "product info" sheet I saw when they decided to buy this model.
Is there a manual for HP ProtectTools, so i can really familiarise myself with all of the various features - including fingerprint recognition and the protection of USB memory keys (which I've already had to work out how to turn off because it was interfering with their use of drives too much.
If I could read the guide, perhaps I could understand how to configure the protection to work the way they'd like it. If you can help me find this, I'd be very grateful.

I am sure that is not a surprising answer, have you thought about Bitlocker http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/bitlocker
    - you need Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise
    - works great with TPM (without TPM look in Win 8)
    - manage it with in AD (with an Enterprise Agreement you can do MBAM)
    - add some scripts (WMI) for reporting
    - configure GPOs so that all recovery keys are stored centrally and make seperate backups of all recovery info in AD just in case the machine account gets deleted and recreated and you need after 2years the recovery key
My experience with 3rd parties are not good either, regardless who it was.
    Hope that helps,
    Lutz

  • Looking for HP ProtectTools 6.X

I am looking for a download for HP ProtectTools for my HP Elitebook 850 G1.  I used ProtectTools on my Elitebook 8470p and it worked great, but now I need a different version for my new machine.  I am using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
All I want to do is use my fingerprint reader - It is a Validity Sensor with driver Version 4.5.133.0.  I checked the driver versions and everything is all up to date
Why is it so difficult to use a fingerprint reader that is built right into the laptop?  I remember struggling to find the proper interface to use it on my previous machine too.

Thank you soooo much for asking this!  That's EXACTLY my reason for coming here... same laptop.. same software and same reason.
P.S.  I've been looking EVERYWHERE for that software.. thank you so much both of you for asking and providing exactly what I need!

  • Remove HP ProtectTools fingerprints from bios?

I dropped my laptop and the HDD broke from the shock. I just finished replacing the Hard drive, installed windows and all the drivers, installed HP ProtectTools and I tried to register my fingerprints in it again, but i cant. It says my fingerprints are already registered.
I cant register any of the fingers I used before, so everything but my pinkys are off limits. The way I had it set up before, i used my fingerprint to unlock the computer before it ever booted windows, it all worked perfectly and I had every finger except my pinkys registered, so i could use any of them. once i swiped my finger at the BIOS it would automatically log me into windows, or if I logged out or closed the screen without shutting down, i could log back into windows with my fingerprint.
after reinstalling windows, all the fingers except my pinkys still work on the BIOS logon screen, but they dont work in windows, and i cant re-register them in protecttools because it says they are already registered, even though it wont recognize them if i swipe them. it is really frustrating, and I was hoping there was some way I could just delete EVERY file that contains a fingerprint somehow, so that i can just set it all back up from scratch and get it working correctly again. The problem is they are saved somewhere in the BIOS i guess, because the old hard drive is gone, and I dont seem to have any rights to do anything within the bios even though I can log in and this is MY computer. I can see all kinds of settings, and there is even something that says remove credentials or something like that in the BIOS, but i cant access it??

  • HP ProtectTools password auto fill in does not work with Firefox 4

My HP Compaq 6715b has a credential manager called ProtectTools that stores user name and password for favorite websites and auto fills the information when the website is opened up. This worked fine with Firefox 3.x.x but since I upgraded to Firefox 4 it is no longer "syncing". I have checked the program and I am "logged in" which is what is necessary to activate this program. I have tried logging off and then back on without any results. I have tried to go back to the 3.x.x version of Firefox and cannot do that either. Technical support for my computer no longer is available from HP due to it's age (2007). Does anyone know if Firefox 4 and ProtecTools is compatible? What do I need to do to get these two "communicating" again?

I think I solved the problem. I have CCleaner software and had the clean cookies checked. After unchecking the box and restarting, the auto login works fine. So if anyone has a cleaner program or anti-virus program with clean cookies enabled, auto login for google or yahoo will not work.

  • Uninstall HP ProtectTools Security Manager

Hello, Can you please help me with HP ProtectTools Security Manager removal? (HP ProBook 4530s)Reasons:  /slowing Windows startup and login  /extremely slow loading  /can not remove user password  /blocking some security accesses (I´m admin, so why is this???) I tried to uninstall it via Windows Control panel, side-provided software and also by following uninstall-steps found somewhere in forums. All these metods (3) with no results... Nothing works. I would really appreciate some help or tips. Thank You

    Mrsenter,
    FINALLY GOT IT WORKING!
After 50+ hours of installs, uninstalls and reboots I found the problem and fix.
Problem: Everytime I uninstalled the fingerprint driver it automatically re-installed itself with these files
    C:\Windows\system32\ATSwpWDFColnst.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ATSwpWDF.sys
    C:\Windows\system32\WdfCoinstaller01007.dll
After this happened a funny thing happens. The option Device Manager_Other devices_ Fingerprint Sensor then dissapears
    Fix:
Just after the fingerprint driver reinstalls itself theres a window of about 20 secs where the option Device Manager_Other devices_ Fingerprint Sensor still appears. At this point I right clicked and updated that driver as per instructions http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/DigitalPersona-AuthenTec-fingerprint-and-Windows-7/td-p/218831.
The correct files for the fingerprint driver are now:
    C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\ATSwpWDF.sys
    C:\Windows\system32\TrueSuitColnst02020000.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\WdfCoinstaller01009.dll
    C:\Windows\system32\WinBioPlugins\ATEngineAdapter.dll
    And now it works...
Tip: Download fingerprint Driver before and have it extracted so you can make the 20 sec window for updating the driver
    Many thanks,
    Sa

  • HP Client Security software preventing the upgrade to Windows 8.1 on my Elitepad 900.

When I tried to upgrade my Elitepad 900 to Windows 8.1 I get a message that the HP ProtectTools Security Manager must be uninstalled before proceeding. I'm then prompted to uninstall the Device Access Manager for HP ProtectTools and Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools. I never bothered to initiate any of this software when I got my Elitepad 900 and now I'm not sure if it's safe to remove it and proceed with the Windows 8.1 upgrade? Hopefully someone here can help me out with this.

This  worked for me after 7 attempts with all kind of solutions on different forums. HP Envy 15 Notebook - Intel HD 4000, Nvidia 740
Locate the F11 key and start tapping it as soon as you turn on the system.
Stop tapping once you reach the recovery manager screen.
    Click Troubleshoot .
On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager .
On the OS selection screen, click Windows 8 . Recovery Manager opens.
Under I need immediate help , click Minimized Image Recovery .
When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option.
If you have already backed up personal files or you do not want to back up personal files, select Recover without backing up your files , then click Next . Continue to the next step.
Follow the on screen options and complete the system recovery.
After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup
-Then, make sure to install all updates via Windows Update. Do NOT install any drivers for graphics etc.
-I did NOT do any updates with HP Assistant
-Run the update via Wired network, disable WiFi and Bluetooth
-I did disable all things in Autostart. Could be reached via Win8 taskmanager
    -Ran Microsoft Compability checker
    Update went fine this time.
Some of my steps might not be needed. And of course if MS compbility checker says a driver is not compatible you will have to update it.
Hopefully it will get you there.

  • HP ProtectTools Security Manager and Windows 10

I am going to be updating to Windows 10, howevver it is saying that the HP ProtectTools Security Manager is not compatible with Windows 10. 2 questions I have. The first is: Is there going to be a replacement for these tools for Windows 10?Second is: How do I uninstall the tools so that I can proceed, properly?

Indeed! These instructions are useful but there is a newer version of Client Security Manager http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_141863_1 Just to inform others users, HP protect tools security Manager has been rebranded to Client Security Manager. So it's the same software, they just change the name and the logo

  • Digitalpersona´s HP protecttools security manager does not recognize sign in pages as such with FF4

With FF3.6 and previous, when visiting i.e. my bank site, and loading a sign-in page previously recorded with sign-in info and passwords stored with ProtectTools Password Manager, I was prompted to fill and submit such stored info. Since upgrade to FF4, the mentioned soft does not recognize sign in pages as such, therefore, not prompting for fill in and submitt, nor does it recognize sign in pages on any site, to prompt for recording the sign in info or password.

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

  • How to uninstall Hp ProtectTools Security Manager?

I want to install Windows 10 but for that it shows that I need to uninstall all the Hp softwares like ProtectTools etc. Anyway so how am I supposed to do that? To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at Commercial Forums.

  • HP Protecttools encrypted hard drive - data recovery

I have an HP Probook 4530s.  It got dropped and the mother board was damaged.  The computer does not even load the boot screen.  The hard drive is un-damaged.   I would like to recover the data from the hard drive, but the data is encrypted with HP Protecttools Security Encryption.  I found this thread:http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and-Software/ProtectTools-issue-Decrypting-an-encrypted-ProtectTools-HDD/td-p/3362403 It details how to recover data using Disktech2011, a bootable recovery iso image from CD. I followed the directions, but when I get to the step 6, selecting the recovery key...I get an error.  (I do have the original recovery key that was created when I first set up the encryption).  This is the error that I get:  I believe the problem is that the Disktech software cannot find the USB drive that I have the encrypted drive plugged in to (I have the encrypted hard drive from my damaged laptop plugged into a separate computer via a SATA to USB adapter plug). I googled the error and found this https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB79409 It details setting the boot disk , which basically tells the software which drive to look at.  However, this is a McAfee error/solution (because the HP protecttools is a McAfee product).  I cant figure out how to set the boot disk in the HP Disktech2011 software.  Does anyone know how to get the Disktech software to recognize my encrypted drive in the USB? Or any other solutions if I am not doing this correctly??? Please help.  I have videos on there that the wife would kill me if I lost.  Thanks.

I don't know about this particular product, but I've found that lots of disk utilities don't work well, or even at  all, when the drive is connected through a USB cable.  In some cases, a drive connected via a USB cable, even if you're using a docking port, is considered "external" -- and some utilities simply won't work with external drives. If you're using a desktop, what you will probably have to do is open the case and connect the drive to one of the drive cables in the case -- and then reboot.
