Hp psc 500 multifunction printer/scanner

I changeed my PC and the new one has not any paralell port, only USB ports.
There is a pralell-USP adapter or converter that works with my printer ?
What solution do you recommend?

Hi, buddy,
don't waste your time
legacy devices are dated
recently i also had a psc500 from my friend
(to him, that psc500 is a trash.  he bought a new model recently.)
my laptop/ notebook doesn't have a onboard parallel interface (LPT)
i have two devices on hand, i.e. (1) usb-to-parallel cable; (2) pcmcia-parallel cardbus
first of all, you should have had the knowledge that XP has a tighter control over port I/O address remapping at driver level, that is to say, you can't have adapters assigned to legacy I/O addresses (LPT1=0x378, LPT2=0x278, LPT3=03BC).  But this is possible in windows 98.
The scenario now is that you won't find a usb-to-pareallel cable that is shipped with a driver for XP, but one for 98 is always available and thus I/O address remapping is made possible.  With this cable, a usb-parallel LPT port is created and I/O address remapping is activated.  Thus, psc500 prints and scans perfectly well in 98.  i guess that pcmcia thing will also work fine in 98.  Obviously, you don't need that pcmcia thing since a usb-parallel cable has been doing the job well.
Now, let's move onto the case with xp:
- as that usb-parallel cable is not shipped with a driver for xp, you have nothing to do but to reply on xp's plug and play.
xp's plug and play only gives a something usb printing support device driver.
it only acts as a passing through (connection simulation) and neither LPT nor I/O address are simulated.
thus, psc500 only prints but won't scan.
- as the case with that pcmcia thing:
http://i3.6.cn/cvbnm/2a/12/a5/8db549119c08d9a462c2503174e9b723.jpg
it is shipped with drivers for 98 and xp
supports for both LPT and I/O address are given by the driver
but as i said above, I/O address remapping is not allowed at driver level in xp
thus, as shown in the screenshot, every piece of hardware and its relevant driver/ system file has been installed and are reported working properly.
but the entry "HP psc 500 scanner" won't move itself into the device category "Imaging Device", so psc500 still won't scan.
after all, i don't know why.
i still believe that the restriction on I/O address remapping causes the hiccup.
Hope this helps
anyway, forget that legacy device ... it is dated!

    Hi,
PSC 1315 no longer supported for scanning since Mac OS X v10.5 or while using any newer OS, there is no scan software provided by either HP or Apple (Image Capture)
You may find this information stated below for Leopard, the same apply for any newer OS version:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01234231&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &os=219&product=374568&sw_lang=
Image capture will not recognize your device as well, only print is supported as you may find listed for teh PSC 1310 Series below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP
Although there is no official scanning support for your device you may still try the 3rd party VueScan software which list your scanner as supported and compatible with Mountain Lion:

  • HP PSC 500.My print jobs do not leave the print queue

My HP PSC 500 has been working perfectly with my relatively new computer with Windows 7. However, now anything I want to print just goes to the print queue and no further. I've printed a test sheet but only from the printer itself. I tried it from the computer but that went to the print queue and no further.
I've deleted all jobs in the print queue and they have gone but still everything goes to the print queue and no further.
I'm really worried this is a computer problem but hope it isn't.

Hello there, Welcome to the Forums! I hope you enjoy your experience
I noticed your post about the wireless connection issue you're having with your Officejet 8600 Plus. As you mentioned, the printer just might need a firmware for starters. There could also be other factors in the printer disconnecting, which I will post a guide to as well.

  • Multifunction Printer/Scanner/FAX machines and FAXing from the desktop.

I've got a Canon MP530 thanks to an Apple Bundle and after a lot of gyrations, it has come down to be that neither I, Canon, nor Apple can make this unit send or recieve FAXs from the desktop!
Apple seems to be "stunned" (better word than "clueless") about this lack of functionality. Canon's response is (literally) "Buy a PC."
I know I can do software that will let me FAX but but that is not an option at this point. I've got four machines who all can plug into the same printer/scanner/unit and there's no reason that this machine shouldn't be able to send a FAX for me.
So, I'm here posting this message wondering if anyone has purchased an "All-in-one" unit (preferably part of an Apple bundle) that supports printing from the computer, scanning to the computer, and FAXing to and from the computer and that they've actually used (themselves) and seen work.

Yes absolutely.  I set it up last Fall and have been using it until last week, at whick time I lost wireless connectivity with router for no reason at all.  I can not remember how to do it now and I am looking for the answer myself.
This link to an online chat on www.hp.com with a tech might help you.

I unfortunately upgraded my browser to IE8 last week and the chat support online does not support that browser.  If you get an answer, I would appreciate it if you would post the answer on this thread so that I can re-learn it myself.  Thanks.  Good Luck.

  • Epson wireless multifunction printer/scanner

    Hi
I'm looking at getting an Epson DX9400f wireless device for the printing and scanning.
Does anybody have experience on running a scanner through wireless on (Arch)Linux??  I imaging there will be issues unless you can install the "official" drivers which I believe can be found on the Avasys site.
Any comments appreciated (including suggestions for alternatives)

Well, I'll be damned! Guess I'll quite trying to figure out how to scan on my multifunction HP printer. I thought that would be so cool to do that via the USB port on my Airport Extreme. I guess I should say thanks for ending my search for the answer. Back to the Ethernet.

  • Can't scan from Lexmark multifunction printer - firewall issue?

    Hi there!
I got a Lexmark printer/scanner combo which used to work fine on my arch install. However, its mobo died, so now I'm back at another install which refuses to scan. Scanning is done through the browser via a java applet residing on the printer's webserver. The applet does start (so it's not a java issue), but refuses to receive data from the scanner. Within the printer's web interface, it reads
If using Windows XP, the Windows XP personal firewall must be disabled before using Scan to PC profiles.
, so I'm assuming it might be a firewall issue. Lexmark's website provides the following advice:
The following two command lines will open the port 5353 for incoming and outgoing connections:
    iptables -I INPUT -p udp -m udp --sport 5353 -j ACCEPT
    iptables -I OUTPUT -p udp -m udp --dport 5353 -j ACCEPT
NOTE: These steps will work on most distributions configured with IPTABLES. There is no common command to make these rules persistent.
As I don't know anything about IP tables, I've simply copied these commands (as root, obviously). Still, I can't scan.
    So, my questions are:
    1. Has anybody else ever come across an issue like this?
    2. I don't even know for sure, whether this is a firewall issue - What iptabled magic would I need to temporarily disable the firewall to check?
    3. I tried checking my rules by "iptables -L". How can I tell "iptables -L" to specify the ports it is working on (as I did in the commands copied from lexmark's website)?
    Best wishes,
    Rufus

    Hi Bob
I believe so.  We put the install disc into this mac back when we bought it to set up the printer.  I'm assuming the scanning drivers were there as well since it's a multifunctional printer/scanner/fax wireless printer.
We've tried it both ways.  If I press the button scan on the printer, it reads can't find computer (or something like that).  When we go thru the HP icon on my computer screen and choose scan to computer, it does nothing.
We don't scan that often.  So the few times when we ran into this problem, we just did something else (like take a pic from our iPhone and email the pic...kinda stupid but did the trick.
But I want to have the function of the scanner available.  So that's why I'm here asking...thought others had this issue and had a solution.

  • Hp psc 500

We have a lenovo desktop computer and an hp psc 500, the printer is hooked in with a usb and had worked for over a year but wouldn't scan and I tried to get it to scan the other day and now it won't print .  I think I might have hit something on the printer settings and can't figure it out.  I want to get back to being able to print.

    Hi skuehl,
I would be happy to help you get your PSC 500 printing and scanning again.
    Please post back with the answers to these few questions;
Is the printer connected wirelessly or with a USB cable?
Is the printer connected directly to a wall outlet or a surge protector? (It is best to connect directly to the wall)
Do  you have any other HP Printers installed on this computer? If so, do you still have the printers?
Is this an HP computer or a different brand?
What operating system do you have? Mac or Windows?
Please describe some of the troubleshooting steps you have already tried.

  • Multifunction Printer/Scanners and Airport

Does anyone know if Apple is working on an update to allow use of the scanner function of multifunction printer/scanners via Airport Extreme?
Having just bought a new multifunction printer/scanner to find the scanner can not be used via my airport extreme is a bit dissapointing. Even the new version does not have the ability, strange seeming apple has been able to develope and release a mobile phone.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

One strange thing, my iMac core duo recognised channel 13, while the same machine's Boot Camp XP cannot recognised the signal. I tried the Window's Airport Utility and Window's Wireless Network, both cannot get the signal(and the SSID name did not show up). But worked right after I set the channel to 9 in the OX mode.
Can anyone kndly explain to me?
Your question doesn't have anything to do with this thread.
Finally I figured the problem was the Extreme auto set channnel to 13 but my HP only support up to channel 11.
The OP was connecting a all-in-one device to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). The OP was not using a wireless connection like you are.

  • PSC 500 - Prints fine, but the scanner is not detected on the 64-bit version of Windows 7

Last week I decided to update my computer to Windows 7 x64 since my computer crashed. (It was pure dumb luck that I backed up my computer the night before.) Anyway, soon after I was done, I tried to install my HP PSC 500 (C6680A) and I was happy that It worked, however I soon realized that it lost it's ability to scan. I am not talking about the scan button that according to HP no longer works; I am talking about actual ability to scan from the computer.
Because my computer is telling me that I do not have a scanner connected and hp scanner drivers are missing from the list in the "Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard" and the printer is already installed, I believe I need a driver in order for my scanner to work.
If someone could post a 64bit driver (*.inf) for xp or vista, I can try to see if it will work it will work. (I don't think a 32bit won't work, but I don't know for sure.)

Sigh, I can't even make my HP PCS 500 print. I looked around for the deskjet 500 driver that HP says to use for Windows Vista 64-ultimate.
There's a 450 440c and a 5100 but 500 went poof. If you'd interally email me the link or post here.
Go to the printers folder, Add Printer, Local printer, LPT1, then when the selection comes up click on "Windows Update".  This will load the updated list of available drivers.  Be patient, it can take a few minutes.  Once the list is updated you will find the HP PSC 500 listed under HP (not Hewlett-Packard) in the printers list.  You can then cancel the isntallation and just plug in the USB cable to have the plug-n-play automatically install.

  • Hp PSC 500 - scanner doesn't work under Windows 8.1 64-bit

I have a HP PSC 500 printer/scanner but scanning does not work.
My PC is a Windows 8.1 64-bit system - and I connected the printer/scanner to the PC with a parallel/usb adapter cable. Printing is OK but no scanning... Printer/scanner shows a message "no connection to PC" if I try to scan.
I have all the updates of Win8.1 - so the system is up to date!

    Hi @inetdude
Since there is no full feature software and driver for 8 or 8.1, I am not sure what else to suggest other than for you to reach out to Microsoft. The driver you are using is an in-OS driver, perhaps they can help you.

  • Connecting HP PSC 2355 All-in-One printer/scanner using USB cord

I have a Time Capsule that I use to back up both my Mac Mini and my MacBook Pro and would like to connect my HP PSC 2355 All-in-One Printer/Scanner to the network using USB cord and plugging it into the back of my TIme Capsule. I tried this once, but was unable to find the Printer. I would like to set it up so I could use both the Printer and the Scanner from either my MacMini or my MacBook Pro. It would be really cool if I could figure out a way to use Back to My Mac to print when I am away from home and using my MacBook Pro at a WiFi Hotspot. Is this possible? How can I do it? Suggestions? Thank you!

+would it be possible to split the USB cord coming from the Printer+
I'm afraid not. The connection must be direct to either the TC or your computer, but not both at the same time.
Apple's Printer Troubleshooting Guide will guide you through the process of setting up the printer. Unfortunately, Apple does not offer a printer compatibility list, so the only way to really know if your device is compatible is to try to see if it can be configured.
Perhaps HP would could help in this regard.

  • Multifunction printer - how to configure the scanner

    Hi,
I just finished installing a multifunction printer - Canon Mx 310 to the print server using a computer with Win 7 (64bit).
The printing option works perfect. Now I need to configure the scanner option, since I get an error that no scanner is connected when trying to use the scanning option.I connected the multifunction printer directly to the computer and I am able to scan.
Can someone guide me in how to configure the print server so the computer can detect the scanning port.
    Thanks

I will try the software at the page you linked to.  I am in a similar boat, in that one of my machines is Windows 7, but the utility on my XP machine doesn't see the print server even though it's there and can be accessed on the network as a printer by both machines.
