HP PSC All-In-One Installation Failure

My wife has a HP Pavilion with Windows XP Home. She had a HP OfficeJet J4550 that we installed, but it would not Fax despite several attempts. I had a PSC AIO 2400xi that worked fine with my Windows XP, but I purchased a HP Pavilion with Windows 7 and it would not function the way I needed, so we decided to swap. I used the J4550 uninstall bat on my wifes, running it four times to level 4.
I then installed the psc 2400xi on her machine but the installation failed (2608 or something like that), I then used the uninstall bat and ran it through level 4. Then attempted to install again, but the same failure at the same location. I then downloaded the latest full install package from HP, ran it and it again failed. I then ran the uninstall bat and the all-in-one printer removal utility as well, then tried to install, again it failed, but it gave a message to continue. I clicked on "Continue" and it began a removal process and cleanup. I started working with the HP techs and went through a variety of things that has left my wife's computer with a small, but aggravating problem. Whenever we click on My Computer, My networks, Recycle Bin, and Windows Explorer, we get a message, "Windows Installer" trying to load SmartWebPrintingOC disk 1, but there isn't a disk one and we haven't to our knowledge tried to load SmartWebPrintingOC unless it was part of the psc 2400xi install.
We have removed all temporary files and those HP pinter files that were suggested by the HP tech, I have ran msicuu2.exe and another suggested by someone. Although I removed both via the Control panel I found one still in the Toos protion of CC Cleaner, when I clicked on it the Cleanup Process began, but my problem is still there.
Can anyone help, it's been several days since the last tech said they would have their engineers look at it for a solution.
Thanks
Terry

Hello psak12,
I would recommend buying a color cartridge as well as a black one because if a printer is low on ink it can cause the alignment to fail. Also, using refilled ink could cause that also. I would recommend getting genuing hp ink cartridges so that the printer would be able to read the ink levels properly and this should allow you to print out an alignment page. I hope that this is helpful.

    Hi @RUkiddingme
You can download the full feature software and driver, and only install the basic driver. In the installation you should see the option for custom software. Here is the link to download the software; rw2_021_w02_enu.exe

  • HT3669 Unable to run the HP All-in-One Installer for LJ 3055 -- Error message says I need to install Rosetta

I have an HP LJ 3055 All-in-One.  Previously, I haven't used it connected to my Mac (i.e., only in 'standalone' mode).  I now want to use the unit's software for faxing and scanning purposes.
However, when I insert the CD that includes the HP All-in-One Installer, I see an error message saying:
"To open LaserJet AIO Installer, you need to install Rosetta.  Would you like to install it now?"
I assume this is related to the CD's having been produced contemporaneous with Tiger, not Snow Leopard -- though I have no idea why it's prompting about Rosetta, since this is a Macintosh installation CD.
Can anyone inform me what I need to do to install the software (i.e., to run the installer) under Snow Leopard, so that I can access the All-in-One's functions via the Mac?
    Thanks.  Replies appreciated.

Responding to two of your posts here...
Thanks.  It wasn't (and still isn't) clear to my why I was getting the prompt about installing Rosetta.  While using the unit with Tiger, I never saw anything about a need for Rosetta (i.e., nothing indicating that any of the software on the CD was pre-Intel).
Printing continues to be available from the Mac but nothing else is supported via the computer.  Scan, fax and copy are available only directly from the unit.
Funny that this can happen with a unit that continues to work perfectly well, without a hitch.  You'd think that OS upgrades would, if anything, enhance software control of a unit -- rather than eliminate it completely.
★ Is there any reason to think that going the 'Rosetta' route would restore the lost functionality (in 10.6.8)? ★
    Thanks.
The reason you were getting the prompt about installing Rosetta now is because Rosetta was automatically installed on OS X 'Tiger' 10.4 and 'Leopard' 10.5. HP didn't mention it as a requirement, because at the time, it was already there and invisible.
Rosetta became an optional install on OS X 10.6, because (I presume) the number of programs and devices still using pre-2006 PowerPC code and thus needing Rosetta, was in steady decline. Why add extra clutter to (this is my guesstimate) 85% of the Macs running Snow Leopard that DO NOT need Rosetta?
In my opinion, it cannot hurt to install Rosetta now.
Only programs (your HP drivers) that REQUIRE Rosetta will even attempt to use it.
The scan fax and copy functions don't work now with Snow Leopard, so at worst, they still won't work.
You can always delete Rosetta again if you need the disk space.
    Message was edited by: kostby
If I correctly understand how Rosetta worked, it created an emulation environment in which certain software (including 'multifunction printer' drivers) would work, the implication being that these software products were not specifically written for the Mac OS.
However, wouldn't those drivers still also have to be supported by the Mac's currently-installed OS in order to work -- as they were in Tiger and Leopard (but are not in Snow Leopard)?

  • HP PSC 1210 all-in-one pen failure issue

I have an hp psc 1210 all-in-one printer and recently replaced both print cartridges.  Then, when I went to print it said that i had a pen failure.  I then discovered online that this could be because of dirty cartridge contacts, so I cleaned them as instructed.  After allowing them time to dry, I returned them to the printer and plugged it back in.  However, now the printer will not turn on at all.  What is wrong with my printer?

    Hi,
What application you are scanning from? is it Paint or Windows fax and scan?
Can you see the same behavior while using any of those options?
You may find the exact steps to scan on Windows 7 with the PSC 1210 within the FAQs section below:

  • HP Photosmart C3180 All In One Installation Problems

A while back I posted about problems with installing this printer, where the install cd v7.8.0 worked but the HP Set Up Assistant hung on the 2nd step. The software on the hp site for this printer (v7.9.1), did not work either, and froze mid install (couldn't even get to the set up assistant). HP support couldn't help me, repairing permissions didn't work, neither did resetting the printing system. I even tried updating cups and it didn't help either.
I found a way to get the printer to work by choosing HP Photosmart P1100 - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2 in Printer Set Up Utility, but since I never completed the HP set up assistant, it came up every time I turned on the computer. But, I could still print.
Then one day I couldn't print, and when I went to Printer Set Up Utility, every driver I picked resulted in the "An error occured while trying to add the selected printer...server-error-service-unavailable", even the one that worked before (HP Photosmart P1100 - Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2)
What finally worked to get me back in the land of the printing was to do an archive and install of the OS and re-installing the latest OS update, then reinstalling the v7.9.1 software from the hp website. I have no idea how things got so messed up twice, but I thought I would share what finally worked just in case it helps someone else out there...

    You are not alone.
I am having EXACTLY the same problem with my HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One. Step two of the HP Setup Assistant stops me dead in my tracks. No printers are listed. Scan Utility just crashes upon opening. The System Profiler lists the printer in both the Printer section & the USB section. I installed the new HP (Universal) 7.9 dmg as an Update; worked fine until I tried to scan. It will do everything, except scan.
Most recently, I did a System Archive & Install (after many MANUAL* printer uninstalls & reinstalls of HP software....), then applied: MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.10PPC.dmg, (brings all up to date in one step).
And a fresh install of HP Universal 7.9.....no change. I did notice that one set of instructions (for installation) said not to have the printer connected until prompted by the software (which never happens). Another (most recent) said that the printer MUST be conected (and 'on') BEFORE beginning the software installation. Neither one worked. And Hp hasn't been able assist any further. If they come up with something, I will post.
Oh, I also tried installing only the Original software that came with the Mac & the 3210. Now that doesn't work either.
    But I'm Still Hopeful,
    Scott Smith
    P.S. I am using a Powerbook G4....
*I have complete instructions on this process if you think it might help your situation.... (it removes all hp stuff & built-in Mac/HP driver stuff.)

  • Officejet Pro 8600 all in one installation on dest top with AMD64 chip set and Window 7

Can't install an HP Pro 8600 all in one with full features on a Desktop with windows 7 64 bit OS, PC has an AMD chip set, connection is wireless.
This printer is replacing an HP Pro 8500 all in one that failed. HP's only solution was to upgrade to the 8600. All 8500 software was removed before attempting to install the 8600.
The installation recognizes the printer & IP address. In the last step of the setup the network connection is not recognized. When I try to add a printer in Windows, the Microsoft drivers are installed and the printer works fine, but no scan or fax.
I had success installing this wireless setup on 2 desktops (windows 7 & XP OS) and a laptop running VISTA. All of these have Intel CPU's. The installation completed fine.
The HP Installation CD has an AMD64 folder (with "hpinkins5912"), but no instruction on setup or updating AMD drivers.

    Hey @mech3320 ,
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to ask that question on the HP Forums today!
I understand that you are having some trouble with the driver download on your AMD chipset but not your Intel one.
I recommend that you try the web download of the drivers after you uninstall the ones that you tried form the CD.

  • HP PhotoSmart PSC All-in-one 2410 driver not found

HP claims to have and distributes a mac osx 10.4 driver for the 2410. I DL it, installed it but unfortunately the install process ends by looking for a 2410 on the network, not on my USB connection. After quitting the process, there is absolutely no driver available during Tiger "install a new printer". The GIMP and HPijs did installed drivers but none seems to be compatible with the 2410.
Anyone found a Tiger compatible driver for this All-In-One HP 2410?

    Hello All,
I have an HP PSC 2410 printer. I used the original install disk, which came with the printer and it works fine. All functions (ie. printing, scanning, faxing, etc.) work. I did have an issue of not being able to print after upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.4. However, after manually uninstalling all the HP software (following instructions I located on HP's web site), reinstalling and then rebooting the computer, all functions of the 2410 work.
I originally purchased the printer in 2003. So the software drivers are from that time frame. I did download the latest version of "HP Zone" and installed it as well. Again, all software works with Mac OS 10.4.4.

  • Officejet Pro 8620 All in One installation

This is a nightmare. I have installed dozens of printers over the years but never one this difficult. We have a wired network with one server and 4 dell clients. After much difficulty - uninstlling, shutting down start up items, disabling services re-installing drivers and hours of looking for solutions on the net, I finally got the Windows 8.1 Dell all in one to work with the printer. Had to go through the same process, several times, to get the Dell 8.1 laptop to work with the printer. The Dell Vostro Windows 7 machine worked pretty well straight away. The 4th machine a pretty new Dell desktop, Windows 8.1 just refuses to play the game. I have used all of the HP troubleshooters, the Microsoft Fix It uninstall, cleared temp files, uninstalled many times, reinstalled many times and followed everything I could find on the Dell and HP sites but this thing will not connect. The desktop finds the printer on the network no problem. It starts the install, the icon appeare in printers and devices briefly (hover over icon - "driver unavailable") and after about 5 minutes the icon disappears and you get the - screen with the printer and the computer and a big red X on the connection. The message reads "Unsuccessfrl Network Installation" - " The printer was unable to be installed over the network." I have used both the CD's provided with the printer and the HP download at various and numerous times but still no go. Just don't know where to go from here. I have never had a problem installing any printer before. This is a nightmare that I have spent at least 20 hours working on.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums, and thanks for posting! I can certainly understand your frustration with this installation issue, and I would like to help. If I understand correctly, you are having an issue installing your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One printer over a wired network, on your Windows 8.1 desktop. What I suspect, is that it has something to do with the driver on your computer. Windows 8 has an annoying habit of installing multiple instances of your printer's driver. For example, even if you have installed the printer with the full HP software, because the Operating System can see the printer wirelessly, it may automatically install a driver from Windows update as well. So here's what I suggest we do; Let's check your printer's folder for multiple "HP Officejet 8620" icons. From your desktop, either swipe right to open the charms bar, or press Win key + C on your keyboard.Select settings from the bar on the right.Select Control PanelUnder Hardware and Sound, Select Devices and Printers. Let's remove all the software and start fresh. Right click on each icon you see for your 8620 (even if there is only one) and select Remove Device, or Delete. Once the printer has been removed, we want to do a cleanboot of the computer. This will turn off any non-essential programs that boot up when you start your computer (so if there is something installed that is hindering the installation, this should bypass it). You can follow the steps here to do a cleanboot -  How to perform a clean boot in Windows  Once the computer has restarted, download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard. It'll automatically detect your product and install the most recent driver package available from HP. Please respond to let me know if we have resolved the issue!Keeping my fingers crossed.

  • Hp psc all-in-one cartridge and alignement problem

I have been using a recently refilled hp 56 black cartridge and it has been working fine.  However, now when I turn on my printer it makes a loud rattle for a moment.  Then it sometimes it gives me a message stating the incorrect black cartridge is installed.  Other times it doesn't give me that message, or the message sometimes goes away if I remove and reinsert the same cartrige.  But then it wants to align the cartridges.  The first time I this happened it printed the alignment page, but then using the page didn't work.  I have since learned that this is because I am out of colored ink.  Before learning that, though, I tried again several times to print the page.  The printer says it is printing it, but nothing happens.  I fear that all of this may be a result of my housemate's cat walking top of the printer!
Anyway, my question is: Is there any point in buying a new color and possibly a new black cartridge to try to do the alignment and make the printer work again, or is this printer broken?   If there is a way I can fix my printer to the point where it would print an aligment page if I had colored ink, what would that way be?
    Thanks for helping me!

    Hi @CJCJC,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you are getting the alignment failure error with your HP Officejet 6310. I am happy to help you with this issue!
I would suggest a hard reset, by going to this post, How to perform a Hard Reset, by @Rich1. It is important that the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, not a surge protector. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
Also, I would recommend making sure none of your ink cartridges are low or empty, and that they are Genuine HP ink cartridges.

  • HP PSC all-in-one printer not working

I reinstalled the driver cd disc, rebooted, corrected the printer default connection.  I've unplugged everything.  Printer doesn't work.
