 Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the BIOS, and wanted to assist you! The blank screen and blinking of your Caps Lock, is the system trying to give you the error code for the issue your notebook is having.  You can review the following document for further assistance, if needed:HP Notebook PCs - Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED or Beep Code Please note the blinking sequence of your Caps Lock, and follow the instructions in the document above.  From the information that you provided, it is possible that the blink code will be related to a BIOS error.  You can always try performing a System Restore, to set the notebook back to a previous working point. You can also try checking this site for BIOS drivers. Once there, you can select your Operating System and click "Update", you should be able to access and download the  BIOS drivers.  If you downloaded the latest driver from that site, try uninstalling the driver and installing the previous version. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.
Have a great weekend!

  • MacBook Pro with retina display (2014) stuck on login screen after latest Yosemite update

    Yesterday I ran the latest Yosemite update. The MacBook restarted afterwards, but the login screen won't respond to trackpad or keyboard. The MacBook is fully charged, BTW. I've shut down by holding the power key until it powers off, let it rest, and powered up again. I get the chime and the login screen, but I can't select anything either with trackpad or keyboard.
    OH

    Sorry folks, this is me again.
    NEVER MIND. I closed the lid, opened it, and all is well. I don't know what was going on, but it seems to have resolved itself.

  • Qosmio F50-125 starts with black screen after an BIOS update

    Hi
    after instalation if new bios (v 2.0), computer sometimes starts with the black screen .
    Even the first page that show press f2 to enter the bios is not shown.
    Do you have somebody old version of the bios?
    So I could try if it is the fault of it.

    Hi
    I think the old BIOS will not help you because the notebook would known that you are trying to update the BIOS to the older version and it would break up the procedure.
    Furthermore the older BIOS is no available on the Toshiba European driver page.
    I think just only a Toshiba ASP has got an older BIOS version.
    Anyway, you said this happens sometimes.
    This would mean that this issue doesnt persist always
    Hmm. in such case I recommend settings the BIOS to the default settings and to update the display driver.
    Check it out!

  • Labview 2011 executable does not run on AMD Quad Core

    I have recently bought a brand new Toshiba Satellite with AMD Quad Core- A8-4500M 1.9GHz processor and Windows 7 OS. It does not run any labview executables. It runs on all my Intel machines without any problem. This is the first AMD ever bought (and the last). I need help in resolving this problem.
    When I run an exe on the AMD, under Task Manager\Processes, I do see *.exe process running, but the Memory usage goes up and tops off at 100% and then it returns to 0. It's like a saw tooth waveform of memory usage, as if it's looking for some missing files. I have cleaned up the computer twice now and even a simple Add Two Numbers.exe does not work on this AMD.
    Any clue, anyone? please?

    I believe you are running into the problem described in this KB.

  • 128-bit floating point numbers on new AMD quad-core Barcelona?

    There's quite a lot of buzz over at Slashdot about the new AMD quad core chips, announced yesterday:
    http://hardware.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/02/10/0554208
    Much of the excitement is over the "new vector math unit referred to as SSE128", which is integrated into each [?!?] core; Tom Yager, of Infoworld, talks about it here:
    Quad-core Opteron? Nope. Barcelona is the completely redesigned x86, and it’s brilliant
    Now here's my question - does anyone know what the inputs and the outputs of this coprocessor look like? Can it perform arithmetic [or, God forbid, trigonometric] operations [in hardware] on 128-bit quad precision floats? And, if so, will LabVIEW be adding support for it? [Compare here versus here.]
    I found a little bit of marketing-speak blather at AMD about "SSE 128" in this old PDF Powerpoint-ish presentation, from June of 2006:
    http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/DownloadableAssets/PhilHesterAMDAnalystDayV2.pdf
    WARNING: PDF DOCUMENT
    Page 13: "Dual 128-bit SSE dataflow, Dual 128-bit loads per cycle"
    Page 14: "128-bit SSE and 128-bit Loads, 128b FADD, 128 bit FMUL, 128b SSE, 128b SSE"
    etc etc etc
    While it's largely just gibberish to me, "FADD" looks like what might be a "floating point adder", and "FMUL" could be a "floating point multiplier", and God forbid that the two "SSE" units might be capable of computing some 128-bit cosines. But I don't know whether that old paper is even applicable to the chip that was released yesterday, and I'm just guessing as to what these things might mean anyway.
    Other than that, though, AMD's main website is strangely quiet about the Barcelona announcement. [Memo to AMD marketing - if you've just released the greatest thing since sliced bread, then you need to publicize the fact that you've just released the greatest thing since sliced bread...]

    I posted a query over at the AMD forums, and here's what I was told.
    I had hoped that e.g. "128b FADD" would be able to do something like the following:
    /* "quad" is a hypothetical 128-bit quad precision  */
    /* floating point number, similar to "long double"  */
    /* in recent versions of C++:                       */
    quad x, y, z;
    x = 1.000000000000000000000000000001;
    y = 1.000000000000000000000000000001;
    /* the hope was that "128b FADD" could perform the  */
    /* following 128-bit addition in hardware:          */
    z = x + y;
    However, the answer I'm getting is that "128b FADD" is just a set of two 64-bit adders running in parallel, which are capable of adding two vectors of 64-bit doubles more or less simultaneously:
    double x[2], y[2], z[2];
    x[0] = 1.000000000000000000000000000001;
    y[0] = 1.000000000000000000000000000001;
    x[1] = 2.000000000000000000000000000222;
    y[1] = 2.000000000000000000000000000222;
    /* Apparently the coordinates of the two "vectors" x & y       */
    /* can be sent to "128b FADD" in parallel, and the following   */
    /* two summations can be computed more or less simultaneously: */
    z[0] = x[0] + y[0];
    z[1] = x[1] + y[1];
    Thus e.g. "128b FADD", working in concert with "128b FMUL", will be able to [more or less] halve the amount of time it takes to compute a dot product of vectors whose coordinates are 64-bit doubles.
    So this "128-bit" circuitry is great if you're doing lots of linear algebra with 64-bit doubles, but it doesn't appear to offer anything in the way of greater precision for people who are interested in precision-sensitive calculations.
    By the way, if you're at all interested in questions of precision sensitivity & round-off error, I'd highly recommend Prof Kahan's page at Cal-Berzerkeley:

  • Will a 600W psu be enough for a gtx 260 and an amd quad-core 9950?

    I plan to upgrade my 2 year old 8600GT gpus in sli with an MSI GTX 260. Currently, I'm using a 600W power supply from Rosewill with a combined rating of 40A on its 12v 2 X 12v rails. I read that the power requirements of a GTX 260 is a minimum of 500W based upon an Intel Core 2 setup; I was hoping to pair my gpu with a 9950 Black Edition. From my psu specs the maximum output is 585W; I'm currently using an amd 5000+ with 65W. I plan to overclock mainly the cpu and leave the settings on the gpu as is. I counted the difference of 75W if I replaced my cpu with the quad-core; if I added the differece with the minimum requirements of the gpu it totalled 575W? Is this cutting it too close; I really don't want to purchase another psu since it's only 5 months old? What are your recommendations? On the side note I plan to add a second hard-drive. • Hardware Virtualization amd quad-core a8-6410 accelerated processor

    Hi,  I recently bought an HP Pavilion Desktop 550-a14, and I'm trying to run a Virtual Machine via VirtualBox, but I'm getting an error message that says "AMD-V is disabled in the BIOS (or by the host OS). (VERR_SVM_DISABLED)."
    I tried to enable hardware virtualization from BIOS, but I don't see any option there to enable AMD-V. Does the AMD quad-core a8-6410 processor support hardware virtualization? According to this article, it says it does:
    http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Puma/AMD-A8-Series%20A8-6410.html
     Is there any way to enable AMD-V on this desktop machine?  Best, Suthan

    Sorry no they do not give you that kind of control. It would liley burn up if you tried to run it flat to the floor all the time.

    Ok, so. My parents bought me a brand new hp laptop for christmas. On christmas day i went through the whole set-up process and did all the steps it told me to do. When i'd been through all the steps, i got a loading symbol and ever since, all it comes up with is a blank, black screen and a mouse icon that i can move. I'm not 100% sure of the model though (appologies). What do i need to do??

    If you are unable to enter the passcode into your device, you will have to restore the device to circumvent that passcode.
    Is the music purchased from iTunes? If it is you can contact iTunes support and ask them to allow you to re-download the music that you purchased from iTunes.
    Also, do you sync the device regularly? When syncing an iPod Touch/iPhone a backup file is made. That backup file doesn't contain your music but it does contain your address book, application data, pictures, notes, etc. After restoring your device, you can try restoring from the last backup that was made of your device so you will not have to start over completely from scratch.
    Hope this helps!

  • Slow Mac Mini with i7 quad core (current gen.) with most current OSX vs. a PC-Winodws 8.1

    My Mac Mini is somewhat slow... don’t get me wrong it’s a fast computer but I got a new work laptop i5 Dual Core Acer laptop with windows 8.1 (I know LOL)
    & it is so much faster with media and browsing the web and overall boot up everything.... Now I have started to leave my Mac on all the time (sleep vs. off) and its much better but having multi-webpage’s up and YouTube it still get slow and will ever crash from time to time...
    Anyone else has this issue? Know what can be done?
    Maybe it’s just because the i5 on the Acer is a newer Haswell design? But the Mac is quad core…. Even my old PC desktop that I never use with an Intel Core 2 quad is so much faster even at 8 years old; boots Windows in 9 sec.
    Mybe is just OSX - I'm thinking about install WIndows 8.1 on the Mac Mini.... ( anyone have this option; is it fast?)
    Thanks

    Sometimes all Apps stop working or take a long time to come back.. Have to restart.
    These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
    For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
    SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
    from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
    In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
    Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
    For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
    If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
    When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
    ☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
    DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
    (not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
    There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent of each. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
    I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
    ☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
    In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
    ☞ Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Kingston memory - KVR13LSE9/8 - has anyone used with W520 Quad core?

    I have to order my memory for upgrade from a company catalog.  The memory recommended on the Kingston website for the W520 quadcore is not available (TL-TP3B/8G - DDR3, 1333MHz, Non-ECC, CL9, X8, 1.5V, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 204-pin).  However, KVR13LSE9/8 is available and appears to be the right specs (Kingston 8GB ValueRAM - 8GB (1 x 8GB) - DDR3L - 1333MHz (PC3-10666) - ECC - Unbuffered - 240-pin SoDIMM - 1.35V - CL9).  Wondering if anyone has used this memory with their W520 quad core?
    Thanks

    Avoid Value RAM, they have a greater chance of not working. If you need cheaper RAM, I can recommend Crucial.

  • HELP with Satellite Series - P305-S8837; displaying blank screen with cursor

    Help! I have a the P305-S8837 laptop in the Toshiba Satellite Series. I have had the laptop for several months now and it's been working fine until now. I was using it this morning (on the internet) and it started freezing up and so I hit Crtl + Alt + delete and selected the option to restart. It restarted and asked which mode I wanted to start it up in (safe mode, safe mode w/networking, etc.) and I selected the normal option. It started out fine - little windows logo came on with the sound and then went into the Welcome Windows Home Vista premium page (that's like bluish greenish) and then afterwards the screen just goes blank with the exception of the mouse cursor. I let it sit for about an hour and there was no change. I have tried pressing the Crtl + Alt + delete and that has had NO affect. So i manually turned it off and then back on using the power button and tried starting it up in Safe mode w/networking and then just safe mode - both are able to get to the welcome screen but after that it's just a blank screen with cursor and it says safe mode and stuff on the border. Crtl + Alt + delete does not work in the safe mode w/networking but in just the regular safe mode it will go to that same screen that is the welcome and ask if I want to lock the computer, change users, start task manager or restart / shut down. I have selected the restart option and nothing happens and then the Crtl + Alt + delete option no longer works. I have tried manually starting the laptop with the battery unattached and just using the AC Adapter and that has had no impact. I have tried just using the laptop's battery only with no AC Adapter and that has had no impact.
    As you can see, I am in desperate need of some assistance! Please tell me what to do!
    Thanks

    Turn the computer on and immediately press and hold the F8 key.
    On the Advanced Boot Options menu, choose Repair Your Computer.
    When you reach the System Recovery Options menu, choose Startup Repair.
    If that doesn't do the trick, go back to the System Recovery Options menu and do a System Restore.
    If that doesn't fix things either, go back to the System Recovery Options menu, choose Command Prompt, and follow the directions here
