They don't supply them normally, typically they save money and tell you IF you want a set of disks then go into the recovery media creator, have a set of disks handy, typically DVDs either +or-, from my experience 4 to 6 of them. Follow the instructions, it's pretty easy. If you're not sure where the app is you can do a search from the start button. (Depends on which OS you have) Search Recovery Media Creator
OR 
Your other option is to use the recovery partition in the hard drive. If you go into Computer you'll see C: .....  and usually D: Recovery. Most HPs I know of use F11 at start up to access the recovery. I've used it more than a few times and it usually works great, in fact I just used it earlier today.
I'd recommend creating a set of disks but make sure you don't lose them, you're only allowed ONE copy!!! I know it doesn't make sense and seems kind of crooked but that's what they limit you to.

    Can not create recovery discs on satellite C875D-S7330. Drive runs and appears to be doing it thing, then aborts saying it has error to check disc for scratch or dust on media. Error code: OEO1B5-26-2AO3OC 00 . Tried 3 new discs all same results. Tried a 4th disc trying to continue on with disc 2 of recovery discs, got another error on this one. Error code: 020150-20-00000000.
      Anyone have a fix for this? Had this machine less than 24hrs.

    Personally, I would get a 16gig USB thumb drive and put your recovery on it.  It eliminates having to swap disks during recovery and it's easy to store.  I've used mine several times and it's worked perfectly every time.

    I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
    Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
    The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?

    It is big problem now if the Toshiba tool cannot find the files.

    What you can try now is to check if HDD recovery installation will start - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm but Im afraid the same problem will occurs again.
    To be honest you should install Win7 32bit on this small Satellite notebook. It works perfectly. Forget original Vista OS, Win7 works better.

    I decided to buy drive cloaning software.  I cloned my drive, that resolved the problem of installing the OS on the new drive.  Too bad neither HP's Restore disc's or this support fourm could help with this issue.

    Situation:  I purchased this computer new as a refurbished model from a retail store.  I created system restore discs after initial setup using the HP Recovery Media Creation Utility.  This system has a 500 GB hard drive.  I purchased a Western Digital 1 TB hard drive to upgrade the drive in this notebook.  After swaping out the drives and trying to load the recovery onto the new 1TB hard drive in the same computer, an HP dialogue so states "This PC is not supported by the System Recovery Discs. You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs."  It gives a code (doesn't call it an error code) 0110-C3150UQ43#ABA underneath and only option is okay, the system reboots and follows the same pattern again and again.
    I have upgraded drives in the past on Vista and 7 the same way using self created HP recovery discs with no issue, I do know what i'm doing.    I've seen discussion mentioning BIOS issues and other such problems.  I did try updating the BIOS to the one on the HP Support page (2013-03-01 , Version:F.26, 7.76M) and the recovery discs still will not work.  I found the CyberLink Recovery Discs Utility thread, however this solution/software has no support for Windows 8.  I have tried to run the utility and it fails, tried with compatiabity and it failed.  Why is this happening and what can be done to resolve this problem?
    I tried using chat support but it won't let me get through to anyone, claiming my warranty is expired.  I just bought this computer 3 days ago and was assured a 90 day warranty.

    Information on the warranty:
    Refurbished computers are often erroneously marked as out of warranty, but it is simple to fix, and a phone representative could have corrected that for you. All computers' warranty start dates begin on the day they leave the factory. HP knows that there will be a period where the computer will sit on a shelf (for days or months) at the retailer. With refurbished computers, their 90-day warranties begin on the day they are refurbished. HP has no way of knowing what date the customer will buy the computer so the warranty start date stays the same until the customer registers the computer providing the date of purchase for the warranty system to be updated. If the registration process fails for some reason (rare, but it happens), phone technical support has a process they can initiate to have the warranty corrected. They only need a copy of the receipt showing the date of purchase.

  • Recovery discs do not work with new hard drive

    Hi I have come here desperately seeking help as I am not too knowledgeable with the workings of computers and I have spent an incredible amount of time just trying to get my laptop to some level of functionality.  I purchased a HP Envy and it had a corrupt hard drive which would not work from day one, laptop was new.  After a year of constant pressure on HP they finally decided to replace it and let me choose any laptop so I went with the Beats Envy 14 as it was the best one offered from the selection.  Low and behold the thing would not work properly from day one, again my brother who is much more of an expert said that there was definitely a hard drive issue so for the past 3 years I have put up with a computer that constantly crashes with BSOD, where I have lost data on numerous occasions (only so often I can back up), that I have had to constantly reset the thing using HP recovery discs, and that generally cannot cope when performing multiple tasks.   HP are most certainly shocking builds from my experience.  Then just last week the hard drive just craps itself and the laptop no longer will boot up.  I took it to a guy to get it at leYst working again so he has installed a new hard drive but with an old version of Windows 7.  I want to go back to the Windows version I was akin to on the HP recovery disk , and essentially have it all set up as before except for now having a workable hard drive however I get the message:  "This computer is not supported by the System Recovery Discs.You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these discs.Error: 0100 - 3385 - 3078" I also tried out of interest to load my old Windows 7 disc I had and XP but had no success.  Tried booting from startup etc and various things suggested on help forums.  Please tell me I am not stuck with this version of windows.  Whilst the discs included Windows 7 it was a totally different version, this home premium one is terrible. Any help/advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

    no they were both 500gb. I read about that already, I heard about creating a partition for recovery etc but this is all a bit above me , as I said I am not very technical when it comes to the working of a computer.  These discs worked perfectly before but now with the new hard drive will not load at all.  I essentially hate the Windows Home Premium verions the guy who fixed it put on, whilst the discs had Windows 7 on them the icons were way smaller, the desktop neater, the buttons different, everything was a lot more modern and I was used to it.  This version looks like something from the 90s, have to constantly adjust size of Mozilla when browsing as it is huge.  I have my own version of Windows 7 on another disc but the hard drive will not let it load either........considering waiting for Windows 10 but again unsure if this new hard drive will even let that update Thanks

  • HP Recovery Discs - Unofficial Install Guide Rev A

    I was so frustrated by the responses by the support people on this forum that I finally Googled " HP Recovery Discs stop at 12 %". The flood gates opened. This problem had existed for well over a year and a half. The support people involved in helping me were well aware of this specific problem and it affected many HP desktops and laptops. They had provided me with some of the tools needed to get these discs to work, but I still feel that they provided me with more misleading info than good. I hope people can read this guide and use it. Please add to it and correct it, if needed. Here goes. Download "Partition Wizard", it's a free program you will have to burn to a CD. If you don't know how to burn .iso files, you'll have to learn. Use it to write zeros to the whole drive. Then create a NTFS Partition and format it. You'll have to hit the "Apply" button after each command. Be aware you will lose all of your data on this hard drive. Next you'll have to download the "Cyberlink Recovery Discs Utility"  (HP sp44645). This utility is needed to setup your hard drive to accept the Recovery Discs, some believe this creates a HP tattoo on the drive. Running sp44645 as administrator creates another bootable disc. Boot it and let it run until you see the green check mark. Remove the disc and power down. Without the disc in the drive, power back up and let it go until it fails to find a boot source. Install your first HP Recovery Disc and power down and power back up. Follow the on screen prompts and answers any questions. After removing the second DVD, it  will probably get stuck at the 12% mark. This is common and could go on for 16 hours, yes 16 hours. Mine took around 8 to continue and it still takes a long time after that. It will ask for the " Drivers and Apps" disc which I didn't install. When it completed, I found that that drive still had everything exactly like a fresh out of the factory machine. All on the bloatware and junk that most people delete was still there. I'm not sure if the third disc would update all the stuff I was trying to get rid of or what it was for. Anyway, for me it wasn't needed. The Windows 7 OS and all of the device drivers were intact. Next, I did a "Minimal Recovery) from the Recovery Partition. This did get rid of most of the junk, but I still had to delete all of the HP Mediasmart software. I find my own software is better and faster than any solutions they provide. I'll leave that up to you. I hope this helps a few people and HP gets off their butts and admits they have a problem with these discs. If you still need more help Google " HP Recovery Discs 12 %", one thread stretches 11 pages and is wear I draw most of this onfo from. These are the real people that deserve the credit for this guide, I just felt it was needed. Good Luck.

    You don't have to format it after zeroing, the sp44645 will get recovery working since it was specifically made to solve the new/blank hard drive issue.

    We are all volunteers here, users just like you, sorry you did not get good advice, this issue had me baffled for a while, it cropped up all of a sudden for many users, sometimes we suggest things that don't work in hopes of finding a solution.

    Since the laptops are the same model-yes, you can use your Recovery Discs on both.

  • Recovery disc does not work for Satellite A100-197

    I am working on a A100-197 that would not boot into ordinary Windows but was able to boot into Safe mode.
    I used MSConfig to turn off everything at startup and all non-MS services. No good.
    I used system restore. No good.
    I scanned for viruses, rootkits etc. None found. No good.
    I copied data to another hard drive using safe mode with networking and inserted the recovery DVD.
    Went through unpacking and got message telling me to remove DVD - did this and system appeared to freeze.
    Hit the exit button and it rebooted but Windows froze (the moving blobs stopped moving). Tried safe mode
    but got a message saying that the system installation did not finish.
    Tried the recovery again but this time I left the unpacking screen at 100% overnight to see if
    it did anything. It didn't. Clicked exit and got the same as above.
    Formatted HDD in partition magic and tried again. No good.
    Created 5GB FAT32 partition and copied DVD files to FAT32 partition. Tried to run the unpacking program
    from DOS. It refused to run in DOS mode.
    I'm thinking of linking the hdd to another machine and running RecoUnpack.exe from a working PC to
    unpack the image files onto the laptop HDD, but this is crazy - the recovery disc is supposed to recover the
    system. What else can I try?

    Thanks Dennis. I was starting to think similar things myself.
    There was a program installed called Daemon Tools which uses
    SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD) layer. My analysis suggested this was the rogue
    program but I followed all the uninstall procedures and couldn't seem to solve the problem.
    I don't suppose (and I've never had anything like this before) that it could have fouled up
    something in the hardware layer? I tried resetting the BIOS to default settings. Maybe I should
    flash the BIOS? Could it have altered any other ROM on the laptop? Is there other ROM on
    the laptop?
    I hate software that ruins computers! Why can't people just use their b***** machines for sensible
    things?

  • How can I get system recovery discs (mailed and/or burned from laptop)?

    I have a family member who is in another state and has a Toshiba C855D-S5100. It is just under 1yr old and is having some issues booting up. She got it from Best Buy and took it to them yesterday. They are currently running a full diagnostic scan and will let us know what the problem is sometime today (virus, bad drive, bad memory, etc.).
    In the meantime, it made me think that we may want to create some recovery discs (if we can). I did this with an older Gateway. It required 4 DVDs. Can this be done with this model? If so, how as it has Windows 8 and I am not real familiar with this operating system just yet.
    If the test comes back and says the hard drive is the issue, the unit will be sent to Toshiba for repair (since there is 2 weeks left on warranty). In addition to trying to create some recovery discs, can we maybe somehow order the actual recovery discs from Toshiba directly (& keep for future purposes if the hard drive fails and gets replaced)? If so, how and where do we go to get these Toshiba recovery discs sent to us?

  • Error while creating recovery discs on HP Pavilion p7-1147b Win7

    While creating the 2nd of 3 ea. system recovery discs, I get an error message during the "verifying disc" phase that terminates the process.  I'm using high quality DVD+R 4.7gb discs and have tried several brands.  I had same problem on the 1st disc, but it finally finished after 3 tries - now I can't get the 2nd disc completed to get to the final one.  The DVD burner seems to work fine for other applications. I really don't want to purchase these recovery discs from HP.

    Hi,
    Try creating the rest of the Recovery Discs in Safe Mode as follows.
    Shut down the PC.  Tap away at f8 as you start the PC to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  When windows has fully loaded in this mode, launch the recovery disc creator application and see if you can complete the creation of your discs in this way.
    To exit Safe Mode, just restart the PC and Windows will boot normally.
    If this still fails to create a viable set of Recovery Discs and you are within your warranty period, call HP ( the telephone numbers can be found on the relevant link below ) and explain that the Recovery Media Creator application fails to create a viable set of recovery discs and request that they send you a free replacement set.

    I have tried a number of various DVD discs from top quality to DVD-R / DVD+R but each time when the system is verifying the data I get an error message 02016F-3C 00000000
    What am i doing wrong please help as frustration is really beginning to kick in now

    I am having trouble with The TOSHIBA Recovery Disk Creator. When trying to create the recovery discs this error comes up:
    An unexpected error occurred. Please quit this application and restart it. (Error Code: 0F00FE-F1-00000002)
    The machine is a Satellite U205-S5034 running XP Pro SP3.

    What kind of DVDs you are using for creating a Toshiba recovery disc? As yet I have tried Verbatim DVD-R and TDK DVD-R and never had a problem with these discs. Friend of tried DVD+R and he couldnt create a recovery disc. After that he tried DVD-R and all was fine but I dont know why this happened.
    So please try other discs.
    Furthermore check the Toshiba page for a firmware update of CD/DVD drive. Maybe it will help you.

    I have tried to create my recovery discs on my new L300 laptop. Whilst creating the disc i get the following error:
    Failed to read the following file F:\ZZImg|09115XSP.swm (Error code: 020150-20-00000000).
    Anyone know what this means, and how to fix this problem? I have a very basic knowledge of IT and haven't got a clue how to sort this out.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

    Yes, I know this error
    It appears because of usage not fully compatible disks
    I had the similar issue and could solve this using another DVD from another manufacturer.

    When I bought this computer, i tried to burn the recovery DVD's, but they never burned and then I forgot about calling HP.
    By this time I was too sick to call and this year (2014 / 2015) is the first time in three - four years that I feel more like my normal self.
    What happened?  Right before Christmas 2014, I downloaded a CD for a present and now my hard drive is badly corrupted or has totally crashed (maybe loosing all my pictures and documents).    
    I have the pay monthly HP Smartfriend service.  HP has worked by remote on this computer several times, trying to help me get it back running properly.You may be able to access their records to get information needed to help me .
    Now, the computer will NOT move pass the HP Splashscreen with clicking noise!
    *** Due to the past few years of health issues, surgery and medical expenses, I can NOT buy a "new" computer at this time!  
    I want to at least TRY to get this computer restored and running for two more years!
    I am willing to spend few dollars ($50.00 - $75.00) to replace this harddrive and with the recovery media than to spend several hundred dollars at this time!

  • 2 probs! HDD Formatted and no recovery discs and "1962 NO Operating System" error message

    Hi, I have had my Lenovo Idecentre B540 for approx 2 weeks now and my hard drive had to be formatted and windows reinstalled.  However, this means the partition is lost and i had no recovery disc or drivers disc with it so have been unable to get the touchscreen working and probably missing out on all the features that were the reasons for buying this machine.
    Running Windows 7 home premium and have downlaoded all the drivers from the support page on here but nothing there for the touch panel drivers and cant find it or ideatouch 4.5 online either.
    I would like a disc sending to me or a link to be able to downlaod please.
    Also now i have had
    "1962 no operating system" error message when booting. ANy known reason for this? Lots of guesses online but no concrete answer.
