HP Scanjet 5500c and OS 10.5
I did a clean install of Leopard and the HP software for the Scanjet 5500 doesn't work. They claim it will only work when installed on 10.4... Does anyone have a solution? It's a good scanner and should work with the new OS.
The HP site offered detailed instruction of what to delete -- well beyond the simple "uninstall" then I again downloaded the current drivers and we're up and running.

Is there a driver for Windows 8.1 that works with HP Scanjet 5500c
Thank you.Hi,
I afraid you will not be able to use the scanner with Windows 8.1, it is not compatible with the OS.
Regarding VueScan, I afraid it would not be an option as well, the application only support your scanners if there are drivers for the OS:
If there isn't an HP scanner driver at www.hp.com for your operating system, then unfortunately VueScan won't work with this scanner.
You may try using the Vista drivers by running the drivers using the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter as listed below.. select Not Listed from the programs list and browse to the installation file for Vista:

HP Scanjet 4890 and MBP - HP software crashes
I bought this Scanjet via Applestore.
It was easy to set up. It will happily scan a small photo and it will also work, using the HP copy utility, as a photocopier with my HP printer via the MBP.
However, if I try to scan a whole A4 page of handwriting, it crashes during the save stage (wanted to PDF the page so I could email it). This happens regardless of whether you change to greyscale, to black and white, to a different resolution.
Presumably it would like more memory... Anyone here know anything about the HP scanjet/Photosmart software and what might cause it to crash in this way when other functions are OK? I have posted on the HP site and if I get anything back from them I'll post it here.
ImogenThis reply from HP email support solved my problem. I thought that their technical support was very good, better than Apple's.
Dear Imogen,
Thank you for contacting HP Total Care.
I am sending you steps to do a manual uninstall for the scanjet. Please
read the NOTE at the end very carefully.

ScanJet N6350 and Windows 10 - Won't Install
Has anyone been able to install the ScanJet N6350 and its associated drivers and tool set in the release version of Windows 10 64-bit Enterprise Edition? I have tried the original CD and the updated install from HP's website. Both either hang or crash.
I was able to get my HP Envy 4500 printing wireless on Windows 10 by right-clicking the installation program and selecting "Troubleshoot compatibility". Use the recommended settings, which for me was Windows 7. I believe you can also specify which compatibility mode to run the program with in Properties > Compatibility if you prefer that route.
-
I have just acquired a Scanjet 5550c from a friend who is upgrading to Windows 7 and cannot make the scanner work with that OS (he hasn't yet heard about the wonders of VueScan).
As well as scanning documents, I'd like to try my hand at scanning 35mm slides, but don't have the requisite TMA adapter. I've seen them offered on eBay, mostly by sellers in the US where of course the voltage is different. Also, some sellers' images shown just the device itself - long and rectangular - which would leave part of the screen uncovered in use, while other images appear to show the device fitted into a lid that completely covers the screen.
Three questions:
- would a US sourced TMA work on a 5550c purchased in the UK?
- is it necessary to have the screen completely covered by using an 'accessory lid', and if so does anyone know the part number of the lid?
_ would anyone who has scanned slides with this set up, and also has experience of a quality dedicated film scanner, care to comment on the respective quality of the scans?
TIAHello Glyn406,
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/
I hope this helps!

Scanjet G4050 and driver 1.3.0 + Mac OSX 10.9.4
I recently returned to the combination Vuescan/Scanjet G4050 for the first ime since March this year (after scanning several thousand negs) and found it no longer worked properly. Vuescan no longer recognised the transparancy capabilities of the scanner, but flatbed scans were OK.
I decided to update to the latest driver 1.3.0.
Now on startup the scanner makes an extra noise (a long whine) for ca 30 seconds and the indicator light then flashes (for ever?) turning it off and back on again returns it to a normal standby.
But now Vuescan hangs on startup, or sometimes suceeds on opening but will not respond to scan requests. The scanner sort of works with Image Capture through System Preferences but it is very slow and the images are posterized.
Vuescan is working perfectly with my other scanner, and I have even tried earlier versions of it with this driver with the same results.
THe HP utility is also crashing now and the uninstall program sees nothing.
I have been advised by Ed Hamrick at Vuescan to use the 32 bit version of the program to sidestep this. That hasn't worked yet... will try a complete restart but i'm sending this whatever the result as there seems to be something wrong with this driver...
Utility crash report:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/brma1ymqflzdte3/HP%20Utiliy%20crash%20report.txt?dl=0
Recent crashes and spins:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/2v5vngsyk6yqtar/AABCUy1UKD-wzcSVtvACgYaMa?dl=0OK, using the 32 bit version of Vuescan worked with this driver, even if it behaved differently (scans twice) and the scanner is still behaving oddly at start-up (30 second whine then straight into energy save mode)

Hi - I have an HP Scanjet 5000, running through a TP-LINK TL-310u MFP & Print Server installed on a Windows XP machine and it works perfectly apart from the fact the user complains about the PC slowing down whenever anyone Scans a document.
So I'm trying to move it onto a Windows 7 machine. And it's *almost* working. From the Windows 7 PC I can quite happily select a users profile (all our users have a profile set with a destination unique to them) and scan a document and it's put in the correct place. However, our users like to scan from the scanner itself by selecting their profile on the LCD and pressing one of the buttons. This is the bit that doesn't work.
I've checked in Devices & Printers -> Scan Properties -> Events and the scan button is set to 'HP Scan Dispatch 3' Not sure if this is correct (other options are 'HP Scanjet 5000 - Scanner Tools Utility') but the other option doesn't work and furthermore stops me being able to scan using profiles from the PC.
In the utility, 'Disable front Panel Buttons' is NOT ticked.
When I connect it back to the Windows XP PC it works straightaway, so I think it's something to do with Windows 7.
Help!
Tony McMahonI've taken the TP-Link device out of the loop now, and connected directly via USB. I'm still experiencing the same issue - can scan from within the software, but the buttons don't do anything.
It seems to be something to do with the 'HP Scan Dispatch 3' that in the registry is set to use:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Hewlett-Packard\Scanjet\5000 (L2715A)\hpScanDispatch3.exe Scan# /StiDevice:%1 /StiEvent:%2;
I don't know what the parameters are supposed to be, but this program simply isn't launching. The other option available under 'Events' from 'Devices & Printers', does start the Scan Utility program, but this isn't the behaviour I'm after - it should perform the scan and save the pdf in the destination without any user intervention.
Any help gratefully received, hopefully whilst I still have some hair left... -

Not certain on their scanner SW, but on their Printer SW you usually have to remove the old files, their uninstaller only removes a few, and the CD versions are almost always out of date. -
Setup of scanjet 4570c and iPhoto '09
I am moving an older but working hp scanjet 4570c to a PowerMac G5 running OSX 10.5.8 to scan slides.
Whre can I get drivers for this configuration or can I scan direclty into iPhoto '09?For drivers for the Scanner you need to check with the makers.
You can also try Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) which has some generic drivers.
Another possibility: Vuescan http://www.hamrick.com/
You can't scan directly to iPhoto. The workflow would be to scan to a folder on the desktop and import from there. Be sure to scan RGB.

HP Scanjet G4050 and Windows 7 Home Premium Ver 6.1
I bought the G4050 photo scanner years ago and it worked fine with my old laptop windows XP operating system for the time I had it. But shortly after, I upgraded my laptop to a Dell XPS with a Windows 7 Home Premium. I've never been able to use my scanner since and its been sitting in a box for years now collecting dust. Is there anyway I can make the G4050 work with my Dell XPS lap top which operates with Windows 7 Home Premium operating system? Or am I better off bringing the scanner to the dump after only having ever used it a couple of times. All this new technology has made life very much more complicated if you ask me.
Hi there @yvans2105,
I saw your post about the issue you are having with using your Scanjet G4050 Photo Scanner with your Windows 7 system.
My suggestion is to download and run the full driver and software and install the scanner on your computer. You should be able to use it afterwards!

If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions: click here.

Scanjet 8300 and Mac OS X 10.9
Does a Mac with OS 10.9 (Maverick) need a new driver in order for a Scanjet 8300 to work?
After scanning, I get this error message when I try to save the image: An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to. Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only."
When will a driver be available?
Is there a workaround?
ThanksI was just testing this solution and run into the same issue with the second document I try and save. The first one after opening HP Scan always seems to save. Unfortunately, even when it does save the image is completely gray. This happens no matter what image format I use.
I will have to see if there is going to be a Mavericks update for a product this old.

ScanJet 4850 And Windows 8.1
I purchased the HP Pavilion 500-336 1 week ago (Windows 8.1). After setting up my Lexmark Printer. My next task was to setup the the HP ScanJet 4850. First I tried using the installation CD; which failed. I then tried to down load the new driver and utility both 64 bit and 32 bit. Currently I am getting and error “An error occurred while communication with scanning device”. Is there something I am missing? Can someone direct me to a solution?
I did download and ran the scan doctor. the scanner did not show on the list of devices.
Thanks anyway

HP Scanjet 5500c OSX 10.10 Driver?
The newest driver posted for OSX for the above scanner was back in 2005. Is there any new driver for OSX 10.10? My Mac is not recognizing my scanner
Hey Jmth,
I was not able to find a direct plug and play driver but I did find this link where they modified the Scanjet 5580 driver which worked. Here is the link: http://theconstantmeddler.blogspot.com.au/2008/11/how-to-really-make-scanjet-4500c-work.html
Hope this helps!

Scanjet G4050 and 64-bit MS Windows 7
My Scanjet G4050 will not work with MS Windows 7. It performs fine under XP. The problem seems to be that the HP interface reports not being able to see the device. There is, however, connumication with the device on some level since I can hear it responding to some initial commands from the computer. The error HP error messages are unhelpful. Any ideas?

Scanjet 5370CSE and windows 8.1
I know it's an old scanner, but it has been working greated with XP and I hate to ditch it. Can it be made to work with windows 8.1?
Dear Thegrey,
This product may be compatible with select third-party software. For more information about scan software alternatives, go to Third-party scanware solutions:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03479564&lc=en&cc=de&dlc=en&product=59548
If these alternatives do not work, consider an upgrade to a newer HP product that will work with Microsoft's newer operating systems.
Great to hear that this scanner has lasted a long time for you.
Best,
aricari
