HP Scanjet Scanner

I am attempting to scan negatives using a HP ScanJet scanner directly into the Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 edit workspace. The negatives are located on the scanners bed using their "transparent materials adapter". I am using Windows XP release 2 on a well-equipped Dell PC. The scan works--I initiate the scan from the Adobe edit workspace, the HP scanner takes control and completes the scan, and control is returned to the Adobe edit workspace. However, the image produced is of the entire scanner bed instead of independent negatives.
Scanning by initiating the scan using the HP scanner produces separate images.

It's most likely that the HP software, after the scanning process is complete, is programmed to identify the individual slides and do the separation as an action separate from the actual scanning. PSE used to have a Divide Scanned Photo feature under the Image menu (that would be in Editor), have you tried it?

  • Mac Mini using OS X Tiger does not see my HP Scanjet scanner!!!! HELP!!!!!!

    I have an HP Scanjet 4670 scanner which worked fine on my pervious mac which was an emac with OS X Panther.
    However, I now own a G4 Mac Mini running with OS X Tiger and recenly tried to use my scanner with it for the first time only to get the message: "scanner not found" I then went straight to my System Profiler to look at the USB Device Tree and was shocked to see that all my USB devices show up EXCEPT my scanner!
    Mechanically, the scanner appears fine (even when I run its 'Hardware Test') but no matter what I do I cant get the Mac to 'see' it. I have reinstalled the HP scanner software old AND new, but to no avail. Although, I'm sure that even with NO HP software on my Mac, the System Profiler should still be detecting a USB device on its tree.
    Just out of curiosty I connected my scanner to my old emac (my girlfriend has had it for a few months now) and it has the same problems there too!! WEIRD OR WHAT? The emac is STILL running on Panther - although during the months AFTER I gave it to my GF there has been some minor OSX Panther upgrades installed.
    Is it just coincidental bad luck that my scanner became faulty when I changed mac and operating systems? Or is there an OS X Tiger problem lurking somwhere here?
    PLEASE PLEASE can someone offer suggestions!!!!????? It is a lovely looking, decent scanner which was not cheap to buy and is only under 2 years old!!!

    Some basic questions:
    Did you install all of the software, I installed all of the sofrware for my Epson scanner before using it, I'm sure if I jump ahead, I'd be in trouble.
    USB Questions
    is it plugged into a usb hub? If so try connecting it directly to the computer.
    is the cable your using a usb2 cable? Your new Mac has usb2 ports not usb like the emac, and you'll run into issues using a regular run of the mill usb cable. I ran into a simiar issue with my Kodak 1400 printer, I needed to go out and purchase a usb2 cable.

  • Anybody at all able to get a HP Scanjet scanner to work on 10.4.10?

    Hey guys. So ive got an HP Scanjet 4070, and the thing quit working around 4.9, i saw some fixes, but never bothered. Well of corse now i need it. All it does is freeze my Dual G5. Weather or not the software is installed, even after ive hunted down every HP.plist possible, i cant get this thing to do ANYTHING! It locks up my mac upon startup, or if i plug it in randomly.
    Ive tried removing/reinstalling software, macjanitor, PRAM, i think ive tried every remedy ive found on this board other than reinstalling to osx.4.whateveritworkedon.
    Anyone?

    i will try that.
    I just contacted HP support. They had me delete a bunch of things, that surprise surprise , werent even there. various extensions, kext files, etc, all unable to be found.
    So i called their number and they told me they wont help me as its out of warranty. Ok fine, i have the HP C3100 printer/scanner combo that came with my brothers iMac. It doesnt work on mac osx anymroe either, and guess what, WONT HELP UNLESS I PAY!
    I will never EVER buy another HP product, i will stick with Epson. I love how they keep drivers going for VISTA, but not an OS that actually works.
    I just want to scan some darn negatvies! i had to take the scanner to my buddys PC. Wait for a 300meg download! and now i have to wait a half hour for it to install.

  • Residual files from uninstall procedure for a HP Scanjet Scanner

    I have used 'AppDelete' program to uninstall HP Scanjet software on my MacBook. I don't see the files in the Applications folder, but I do see the app: HP Scanjet Manager.app in the Activitiy Monitor. This is after running scrips, permissions and a few reboots. When I do a search for the file, I only see the data file that was created by a previous scan. Is there something in a start up file that needs to be cleaned up?
    Any ideas?

    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
    Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Most applications create preference files which are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can located them in the above location and delete them, too.
    Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
    Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
    Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
    If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.
    There are also several shareware utilities that can uninstall applications:
    AppZapper
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
    Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit driver for SCANJET SCANNER 5550C

    Can someone give me the link to get this driver? Thanks.

    I dont think your going to find one. The 5550c is in the list of scanners not supported.
    Scanners not supported in Windows 7
    Its possible that VueScans' third party software will work for the 5550c as it lists the 5550 as compatable.
    That looks like your only alternative.

  • How to use scanner ADF with SANE in linux using Morena

    Hi! I'm using Morena libraries to access my scanner in my linux by the SANE backend. I'm able to scan one page, but I just can't scan all the pages on the scanner. I've tried loops and status but nothing successfull.
    Using linux utility "scanadf" works great, it scans all the pages. I don't know what I'm missing.
    Hope some one out there has used the Morena project to accesso SANE scanners.
    Best regards!

    Hope, that something of the below will help:
    According to the Sane specification, Sane backend (i.e. scanner) should report the "out of paper" situation by returning SANE_STATUS_NO_DOCS status code. Some backends do it by default, some require to set a special sane option, so that they accept the fact that "application wants to use ADF". E.q. when you scan multiple papers using ADF just by default options with our scanner HP ScanJet 6300C, it will result in endless repeated scans. In that situation you need to examine the list of backend's options and find the appropriate adf option name. In case of our HP ScanJet scanner, you need to call setOption("source", "ADF");
    Is is possible, that some backends need to be inform to pull the next paper into the adf (something like change document option).
    How To detect out of paper using Morena
    1) Morena produces acquired data via Java ImageProducer interface. When image was acquired correctly, it will send imageComplete(ImageConsumer.STATICIMAGEDONE). When some error occurs, it will send imageComplete(ImageConsumer.IMAGEERROR). Developer can track these values. MorenaImage class has it's own getStatus() method, which reflects these values. Here is an example how to:
    MorenaImage image;
    SaneSource source=SaneConnection.selectSource(null);
    source.setResolution(100);
    source.setOption("mode", "Color");
    source.setOption("source", "ADF");
    do
    { image = new MorenaImage(source);
    System.out.println("Size of acquired image is " + image.getWidth() + " x " + image.getHeight() + " x " + image.getPixelSize() + ", image.getStatus=" + image.getStatus());
    } while (image.getStatus() == ImageConsumer.STATICIMAGEDONE);
    2) When developer decides not to buffer the acquired image, it is possible to omit MorenaImage class:
    Image image;
    SaneConnection saneConnection=null;
    try
    saneConnection = SaneConnection.connect("localhost");
    SaneSource source=saneConnection.selectSource(null,null);
    source.setOption("mode", "Color");
    source.setResolution(100);
    source.setOption("source", "ADF");
    do
    image=Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(source);
    MediaTracker tracker=new MediaTracker(this);
    tracker.addImage(image, 0);
    try
    { tracker.waitForAll();
    catch (InterruptedException e)
    { e.printStackTrace();
    tracker.removeImage(image);
    System.out.println("Size of acquired image is " + image.getWidth(this) + " x " + image.getHeight(this) + ", saneConnection.getResultCode()=" + saneConnection.getResultCode());
    } while (saneConnection.getResultCode() != SaneConstants.SANE_STATUS_NO_DOCS);
    catch (Exception e)
    { e.printStackTrace();
    finally
    { if(null!=saneConnection)
    try
    { saneConnection.close();
    catch (Exception e)
    { e.printStackTrace();
    3) Quit simple solution is to detect a size of the acquired images. If the size = 0 (or -1 in some scanners), stop the scanning.

  • Interfacing Vectra XU-6/200, W2K SP4 and Scanjet 2P, difficulties.

    This is a query for the long serving HP folks.
    I am attempting to interface an HP Vectra XU-6/200 running under W2K SP4 and an HP Scanjet 2P, all legacy products.
    The Vectra XU and the Scanjet 2P are interfaced via an HP adaptor pwa. Unfortunately the adaptor pwa does not have an HP product number attached, the only identifier is a paper label glued to the outside face of the installation bracket, the label reads " HP Scanjet scanner". The Vectra XU has three PCI slots and three ISA slots, its User Manual states that both the ISA bus and the PCI bus have 'Plug & Play' (P&P) capability. W2K of course has P&P capability.
    The Vectra XU BIOS allows for two P&P settings, both of which I have tried, without success. The normal P&P mode is labelled 'Bootable' in the BIOS, the alternate method is labelled  'Full'.   Under 'Bootable' the P&P service does the complete job of interfacing all components, under 'Full' the BIOS initialises all components, but does not allocate IRQ's etc. that has to be done manually.
    My problem is that the OS appears to be unable to recognise the adaptor card. I have tried installing the card after the driver, ( WIN 3 method), I have tried installing the adaptor card before the driver, (WIN NT/2K method) The Scanjet 2P User Manual discusses both methods. more or less, since the hardware  and software are claimed to operate on versions of Windows from WIN 3.1 to W2K.
    To the best of my knowledge the adaptor card is functional, as is the scanner, I removed both  from my wife's old Vectra RS-25, where it was functioning quite happily under WIN 3.11. The Vectra XU has the optional second CPU and runs well under W2K SP4. Our faithfull old Vectra RS 25 suffered a HDD controller card failure after around twenty years of service.  I have beeen unable to find a replacement HDD controller card, so, sadly, I scrapped our faithfull servant!
    I would appreciate it greatly if anyone is able to tell me how to solve this riddle? It is my suspicion that the problem lies in the adaptor card failing to provide identity information in a form recognisable by W2K. I have considered changing the Vectra OS back to WIN 3.11, but I'm not anxious to do that for the obvious reason of lesser capability

  • Mac pro kernel panic

    Hi all -
    So my Mac Pro 1,1 has been having kernel panics intermittently and I don't think they are tied to any specific OS upgrade.  I used to get a couple a year until a few months ago and now I am getting them more frequently and I can't repro them.

    The kernel panic log complains that there are likely to be memory leaks. That means you are running stuff that behaves badly, dynamically allocating memory to do its work and losing track of it and never returning it to the memory pool.
    Mac OS X kernel generally does not do this. But you are not running Mac OS X kernel, you have made a large number of modifications to it:

    The backtrace points to Disk I/O routines as the place where the problem was detected. I would be very suspicious of your third-party drives that require non-standard drivers. I have external drives, but none requires a Driver, and I certainly do not see your crashes.
    If you want Apple to take your problem seriously, you will need to duplicate the failure with no non-Apple kernel extensions present.

    Dick,
    At the beginning of the crash log, there are several lines where text has become a hyperlink to the Discussions. Did you cause that to happen?
    Do you have any third party Mail enhancement programs installed?
    Create a New User Account on your Mac, and as that New User, launch Mail and set up one account. If an existing POP account, take care to have it leave messages on the server, if it gets as far as downloading. For adding a New User to your Mac, see:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh168.html
    Let us know if Mail can be launched as that New User.

  • Using a different pwercord

    I am missing power cord for my hp 3500c scanner.  It takes a 12v cord.  Can I use a 19v, 3.16a cord instead

    I would not suggest increasing the voltage.http://www.12vadapters.com/adapter/power-supply/12v/scanners/hp_scanjet_3500c.htmlhttp://generalsaving.com/productfile/G_LCD_12V2A_2_5mm/1000/G_LCD_12V2A_2_5mm_z_0140.phphttp://www.amazon.com/T-Power-ScanJet-Scanner-4300CSE-IMPORTANT/dp/B0094AGQUU

  • Slow running MacBook Pro

    I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 2.26 GHz w/4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 running OS 10.6.8. It is the slowest laptop I have ever owned and now takes forever to open simple spreadsheet files, etc... I have pretty much hated this since I purchased it new, but am married [for better or worse] to the Mac platform now. Any remedy/recommendations?
