Hi.
Today i try to use software in stock "HP ProOne400" and have some truble!
1. Im change the name of user PC (from Administrator => Admin)
2. Rebot PC
2. Run software HP Security client
     -  set password for username "Admin" in tool
     -  the step with secret questions skipped
     - then i insert USB storage to create a secret recovery key for encryption.
3. Then the tool tell me "PC need reboot"
After rebbot i see next situatioon
     -  Bios load
4.  Load HP Drive encription
      Username  "Administrator"
in the center of the screen the message "enter the password"
4.1 I type passwor, push "login button"  -  Error (wrong password)
     All attempts unsuccessfully
5. Then i decide to try Recovery with "DiskDescription security key"
5.1 i choise this metod, the i see on the screen
top - the band with a place for security key file
below, there are two folders.
I inserted into the computer usb storage, which was previously stored key file.
However, the system does not recognize anything, and I can not select anything.
get even with the decryption key, I can not use it.
Tell me what you can do to work correctly?

I checked 'Disable Sleep Mode for increased security' and then it allowed me to deselect my boot drive and is now decrypting... odd... any idea why that would make the difference?

  • Decrypt HP Client Security / HP Drive Encryption - or clone encrypted drive...

Hi, I'm trying to clone my boot drive over to an SSD.  I have a 1tb boot drive and I just purchased a 512mb SSD (MSata Interface in Sata to MSata adapter in bay 2). I get an error in Acronis Clone Disk and I assume it is due to my boot drive and my 3rd drive (a 1tb Hybrid in an Optical to SATA adapter) both being encrypted with HP Client Security, so I tried unchecking the drives in HP Drive Encryption assumign that is the way to decrypt the drive so that I can clone it, resize partition and reencrypt.  If I can skip the decrypt/reencrypt please let me know. Client Security gives me this when I unselect the drives in Drive Encryption:

  • If a drive is encrypted (format level) does this mean any un-securely deleted files remain encrypted?

If a drive is encrypted (at the format level i.e. Journaled Encrypted) does this mean any UN-securely deleted files remain encrypted? Thus empying your trash with secure erase on is redundant?

I would think the files are safe - while the drive is encrypted.
I would think once the drive has been unlocked then apps like data rescue may be able to lift previously deleted files from the drive. Might be worth trying it out.....
I think with an encrypted drive, all bets are off once the key is entered, it would appear as any other drive at that stage.

  • Drive Encryption

    Hello
I like my new Probook 450 G2 and HP Client Security is awesome.
Start using HP Drive Encryption  and I encrypted C partition with OS Windows 8.1 64 - worked fine

HP Drive Encryption trying encrypt G partition but there is no information how many % is done, there is only grey line with information next to it like encrypting in progress. I left laptop on for last 4 days and nothing change.
    Version of software: 8.6.7.27
    Cryptographic Engine: 6.1
    FIPS - Compliant
How can I fix this? I realy want cncrypt my G partition.
    I appreciate your help.

I want to replace my hardrive with a bigger one. I use symantec ghost to create an image of the old one. Put the new drive in my hp. ghost the image to it. When it is done and I try to boot, I get ecCode not found.  I've tried using the swdrecovery etc. no go. What I really really want to do is unencrypt my old drive. This drive encryption is a nightmare and it seems I am stuck with it??? Surely there must be away to get rid of this nuisance? Most likely the encryption doesn't match the drive specs so you would get a error. And what did you use to encypt the drive? And why did you encrypt the drive for? You need to redo the image again from the old drive but with the encryption removed so you can make another ghost image and then restore that image again to see if the problem goes away.

  • HP Drive Encryption Software (Winmagic)

Hi, I'm having a problem with the HP Drive Encryption Software. I had to reinstall my operating system, but I forgot the decrypt my hard drive before the reinstall. My HDD was split into 3 partitions, 1 was for the OS and the other 2 for data storage. Currently, after the reinstall, I can see the one with the OS, as it was formated during the reinstall, but as for the other 2, they are not available. Windows recognized those partitions as not formatted and when I click on them the OS says that before using the partition it needs to be formated. I was hoping that by installing the Drive Encryption Software it will be easy to recover those partitions, but apparently it wasn't. I have my old spare key stored on a external USB device, but when I was trying to recover following the guidelines I found in the Help section of the HP Client Security app (via the login screen after a restart) I run into an error. 0xa1 I believe. Is there any way to recover those partitions? I wouldnt want to format them and loose all my data. Pls advise. Thank you

I am sure that is not a surprising answer, have you thought about Bitlocker http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/bitlocker
    - you need Win 7 Ultimate or Enterprise
    - works great with TPM (without TPM look in Win 8)
    - manage it with in AD (with an Enterprise Agreement you can do MBAM)
    - add some scripts (WMI) for reporting
    - configure GPOs so that all recovery keys are stored centrally and make seperate backups of all recovery info in AD just in case the machine account gets deleted and recreated and you need after 2years the recovery key
My experience with 3rd parties are not good either, regardless who it was.
    Hope that helps,
    Lutz

  • HP Drive Encryption Error: Unable to unlock media.

Hi I looked around to see if anyone else is stuck with the same issue I am in but I haven't been so lucky. I was finally able to login into my HP Client Security since awhile and while looking around I clicked to have my hard drive encrypted not putting a lot of thought into it. My laptop rebooted due to Norton while I was at work. When I came back and tried to login via the HP Drive Encryption like I would usually do it would not let me instead a message appeared that it was "unable to unlock media. To try again when it would re-start" I thought okay I would try again. However no matter how many times I try to login the same message would come out. I really don't know what to do and I am afraid I will have to do an HP recovery if I don't find a solution.

Bumping this post.  I have the same exact problem.  I checked box to encrypt hard drive.  Now upon booting back up, I get that I am "unable to access media".  I can't use my established password and my 3 question sparekey doesn't work either.  I really don't want to start from scratch again for something that wasn't my fault.  Don't put the software on if it isn't going to work properly.

  • Cannot decrypt HP Drive Encryption

Greetings, I own the computer detailed above, and it's protected by (my own finger's) fingerprint protection, courtesy of HP Client Security. The PC has run into a couple of problems (corruped fan, BSoD's etc), so I contacted HP in my local area for support. Their tech and I ran into a funny problem; he cannot access the system, the BIOS, or anything without my fingerprint. So now, I'm trying to disable HP Drive Encryption - but I can't.When I enter HP Client Security Manager, and go to HP Drive Encryption section, my C (and only) drive is ticked and says "Encrypted". The type of encryption appears to be "Software". When I untick it, nothing happens, and a "Next" button WILL NOT appear. Then, when I tick it again, a "Next" button will appear, even though the drive is already encrypted. Pressing "Next" in that situation basically prompts me to back up that secure emergency key file and encrypt my already encrypted drive all over again. It won't let me decrypt. I cannot even Refresh (reinstall Windows 8.1 while keeping personal files intact) or factory reset from the startup settings while Drive Encryption is on. My computer is running HP Client Security Manager 8.2.0.1663. I thought the problem might be that the version is outdated. So I opened HP Support Assistant and searched for updates. It claimed there aren't any. Just in case, HP Client Security claims that version of HP Drive Encryption is powered by Winmagic. But it's not something I've deliberately installed, it says "HP" all over the place. Please help me before I finally throw this useless brick out the window. Regards,

Same problem. Still no answer.  Unticking the decrypted drive but then no way to save that change or apply that change or go to next steps. Can only exit that page saying that it won't save the changes.  So no way to decrypt drive to install Windows 10 and uninstall this horrible HP Client security nonsense program.  Hey HP. Post an answer here. how hard would that be?  Or do you really think it is more efficient for us to call your stupid support line and take the time (one by one for each of us) to talk to a support rep?  I think the easiest solution is to just buy a Lenovo and junk this nonsense HP client security. Lenovo had so much better hardware management that I never needed support --- ever. It just worked.  If HP doesn't post a response. I'll never buy an HP again.

  • Hard Drive Encryption Issue

This is in regard to hard drive encryption issues in my USB Hard drive. I have Windows 7. I was encrypting my USB hard drive and
was able to enter a password. However, I did not receive any prompt to save the Bitlocker recovery key.  During encryption process, I received an error. The encryption process was unsuccessful. However, now when I plug-in the hard drive, I receive the
following message on the status bar:
Application and Device Control rule Block writing to removable media. Unencrypted drive found (No_Encrypted_Found) has blocked edpa.exe trying to access Volume
    {e3901a75-f1ff-11e1-817c-806e6f6e6963 alpha-numeric number appearing here}
When I try to open the drive, it asks for a password. When I enter the password, I am receiving the following error message:
Bitlocker Drive Encryption failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion. This could be due to either all conversion logs being corrupted or the media
    being write-protected.
I have read that Bitlocker repair tool can help resolve this issue.
However, I just have the password that I had set to encrypt the drive and Bitlocker recovery key identification. Can this help to get access to my hard drive data  using the Bitlocker tool.

    Checked this ?

    Ted,
When I connect to the Derby database in Eclipse using the embedded driver, I can successfully drag and drop tables to create a report. This driver uses the derby.jar file and has no package sealing violations popping up.
    <br/>
    <br/>
When specifying a driver for a new derby database in Eclipse, the default Derby client driver expects to use the derbyclient.jar driver file. If I only specify this as the driver file this is the error I get:

The error I initially posted resulted after I added the derby.jar as a driver file in addition to the derbyclient.jar, which I don't think is supposed to be done now that I am thinking about it, but I did it because of the class not found exception above. Is this perhaps simply a bug that it is trying to utilize the derby.jar embedded driver when the client driver should be used instead? Or am I doing something wrong myself?

  • Diffuser missing from BitLocker Drive Encryption

I couldn't help but notice on my Windows Server 2012 Essentials installation that the Diffuser options are gone from BitLocker Drive Encryption. This was a shocker. Since Windows Vista/Server 2008, the following four options have always been available:
    AES 256-bit with Diffuser
    AES 128-bit with Diffuser
    AES 256-bit
    AES 128-bit
The default was AES 128-bit with Diffuser, but I always opted for the strongest, and changed it to AES 256-bit with Diffuser. I made this change after probing around Google and Bing to see if BitLocker with Diffuser provided stronger encryption than BitLocker
sans Diffuser.  What I found supported the use of Diffuser as being the strongest, thereby making AES 256-bit with Diffuser the strongest encryption of the four settings.
So to find Diffuser culled from BitLocker was a shocker, and made me lose a bit of respect for the technology. Why would you WEAKEN the product (BitLocker) by removing the stronger versions of the encryption?  This TechNet article is quite disappointing: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831713.aspx
The article simply says, "The Diffuser option is no longer available to be added to the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption algorithm" under the heading "Removed
or deprecated functionality." There is ZERO explanation.
I'm hoping someone can answer this, please. WHY would you take out the stronger versions of encryption in favor of leaving the weaker ones? Wouldn't it be more appropriate
to deprecate the non-Diffuser variants and require the use of Diffuser?
BitLocker was, and still is, a great technology, but it was just made quite a bit weaker with the release of Windows 8 and Server 2012.

    Hi Manoj,
If I understand your answer, are you saying that the BitLocker options with Diffuser are actually WEAKER than those without it?
It's always been my impression that FIPS aims for the highest possible security standards.  If FIPS-only environments allow BitLocker without Diffuser but disallow BitLocker when Diffuser is used, that would lead me to believe Diffuser actually weakens
    BitLocker.  Is this correct?
I guess that as long as BitLocker with AES 256-bit encryption makes the FIPS federal government folks happy, then it's good enough encryption for me!
Also, you mention crypto-acceleration hardware.  Where would I find this?  I'm guessing this is something found in newer servers, laptops and desktops?  Or maybe even tablets?  Would the new Microsoft Surface come with such capabilities?
    Matt

  • SecuRed Hard Disk Drive

    Hi
    SecuRed Hard Disk Drive:
Does anyone know how I can get this device back to the factory settings as someone has created a vault container and I would like the entire hardisk to be encrypted? I have all the relevant passwords etc for the encryption. Operating system is XP SP3.
    Thanks in Advance
    CJV

    Hi mate,
I had the same problem and after raising a request @ the toshiba hotline, I get the information to send the HDD to an service partner because they can set it back to factory defaults.
After sending it to the ASP here in croatia, I received my HDD with factory settings again.
    Hope that helps.

  • Drive encrypted but on network. Need to worry?

Hi. I have a time machine drive encrypted with a really good password. I use that drive to backup my computer. Recently I have attached this drive to another Mac which hosts my website and acts as a server for music as well. I like it like this because I can just connect to my network and backup my computer without having to actually attach my Time Machine disk to my main computer. My server Mac is also accessible over the Internet through Apple remote desktop, or VNC.
It just recently occurred to me that if I can see my server  desktop from anywhere in the world I also see my time machine backup drive mounted on its desktop and I can freely access all content of that drive from anywhere in the world. It seems to me that this would compromise security and that the encryption of my time machine drive does not matter at all because it is mounted on my server desktop.
Can anyone suggest if there is a way for me to have that drive mounted on my server desktop, have the server be reachable through filesharing and Apple remote desktop over the Internet and yet have the contents of my time machine drive be as secure as if a burglar steals my encrypted drive?
thank you very much for your suggestions

The normally way for a local time machine backup drive to be used and encrypted is for the entire backup drive to by encrypted. The normal way for a Mac server to provide Time Machine backup access to other Macs is that the other Macs create a disk image on the Time Machine drive being shared by the server. These disk images can be and normally are encrypted.
This second approach means that as far as the server is concerned it only sees the disk image files and not the contents inside them. There is no need for the server to know or store the password to access such encrypted disk images files. Therefore with this approach the contents would be secure even if someone gained remote access to the server.
It sounds like you are using a disk originally setup for local access and at best are mounting it on the server by entering the full disk encryption password. This means that it is completely unprotected while it is mounted on the server.
You should consider wiping the drive and setting up proper network backups which will then create disk images and let you set encryption for the disk images.
PS. You might want to disable VNC access over the Internet and only make this possible via a VPN connection. You could use the VPN server function in the same server software. It is generally best practice to only make available via the Internet those protocols absolutely needed, e.g. Web for web serving, and email for a mail server. Everything else e.g. file sharing, VNC, etc. should be limited to being only accessible via a VPN connection.

  • Bit locker drive encryption failed due to power failer and hard disk corrupted

I ran Bitlocker drive ecryption drive D. My pc is windows 7 ultimate, while it was in progress of 1% due to power failer the encryption failed, when power resume the drive didn't showed the file format nor the size but it shows the size in disk management.
It showed like this in My computer
I do Have the recovery code password and back of recovery password so I ran the "manage-bde-_unlock D:-rp[my code ]
and my pc got hang  no other option rather than to press the restart button.
then I used commang "repair-bde -force D:I:-rp[my rp] and following info showed but it stucked in 1% about 8 hours, and there was no increase in the pecentage
I also connected the hardisk to mac but all othe partation showed but didn't showed the encrypted one.
I had lots of memorable picture and other backups so any one kindly help me to get out of this problem. Thanks for help

    Hi,
The BitLocker encryption and decryption processes can be interrupted by turning the computer off, and it will resume where it left off the next time Windows starts. This is true even if the power is suddenly unavailable.
    Bitlocker-repair (repair-bde)  tool
can't repair a drive that failed during the encryption or decryption process.
In addition, could you please explain a bit for what drive you are trying to deal with? external one?
When you first restart your PC, have you seen any signs that indicate that the encryption is in process?
Regarding your scenario, please take a look to see if the following articles could help here:
Scenario 11: Recovering Data Protected by BitLocker Drive Encryption (Windows 7)
Besides, when running manage-bde command, did we followed the steps mentioned in the below article?
Scenario 14: Using a Data Recovery Agent to Recover BitLocker-Protected Drives (Windows 7)

  • TrueCrypt 6.2 system drive encryption hangs system sometimes a day

    Hi,
I use truecrypt for years with xp and vista - last with Vista and T500, a few weeks ago I installed windows 7 x64 rtm. Every thing works fine and so I checked step by step my usual installed apps and tools.
I see win7 is not supported by truecrypt but seems to work fine. But sometimes (one or two a hour) my system hangs for about 10 to 40 seconds. So I decided to go step by step backwards and removed installed tools.
Removing TC solved my problem. Has anybody seen the same (TC6.2 on Win7 ult. x64 using Lenovo T500 with Intel SSD)?
    best regards
      Ronny

I have exactly the same problem, but with a HP Elitebook 2530p
    TrueCrypt 7.0a
    Windows 7 x64
SSD drive, but had the same problem on my traditional HDD.
The interval is somewhat longer for me, maybe a few times a day.
And, just as you discovered, removing truecrypt system encryption resolves the issue. Wonder if it's an issue with just the system drive encryption thingy, or it affects all systems having encrypted volumes opened?
