HP Server Drive Keeps Failing

To be fair, I hadn't heard of them until today but if you are a Mitro user then you need to be aware that they are shutting down in six weeks.

  • Why do new hard drives keep failing in Mac Mini OSX Server?

Why new new hard drives keep failing in Mac Mini OSX server?

If it only failed in 8 days.. I just return the drives back to newegg and get a different brand like western digital. NewEgg has a 30 day return policy.
If you deal with any hard drive manufacturer now, they will give you a refurbished item and not a new item that you are entitled.
    As for testing  hardware....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
even if it still passed Apple tests.. it does not mean logicboard is fine..... it just means it passes the tests.
At this point, If i were you, I would just go back to NewEgg and send back the Seagates letting know they are bad and prefer a different brand such as Western Digital.
Install the Western Digitals and see how long they last. If they fail again in a a short amoung of time, it's the logicboard then.
This is based on experience in dealing with repairs with Macs, PCs, and other various kinds of Servers and computers over the last 10+ years.
In fact, One of my clients who has a Dual 4-core Intel Xeon Server with a Supermicro logicboard, one of their SATA drive ports are bad. Every 4 months like clock work the Mirror RAID Drive would degrade on that port. Then after figuring out that the drives are not necessary bad, I swapped to using another spare  SATA port and since then no problems.

  • I have a Nvidia Galaxy GT 610. The driver keeps failing, what can I do about this?

I have an Nvidia Galaxy GT 610, and the driver keep's failing on me. What can I do about this, I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled the driver, and I keep getting the same thing. I am at the point where I am going to buy an other card. So if any one can help, that would be great.   Peter.

Hey ,The best thing to do would be to take it in to you nearest Best Buy and have the Geek Squad take a look at it. Obviously getting yours to work the way it is supposed to is the best option but if they can't, at least you can get or order a replacement easily.  There wouldn't be any charge just to have them look at it and if there was work that they could do to get it going they could tell you what it would run you before doing anything.

  • Main System Drives keep failing in PPC G5 2.5 after installing backup drive

    Hello,
Two system drives have failed in my PPC G5 2.5 in the past eight months. One was a Seagate (original drive) and I can't remember the brand of the other one. At least the AHT says that they failed. Each time, this happened a month or so after I installed a backup drive in the remaining drive bay.
I'm wondering if the is just a coincidence or if maybe it's related to a power supply issue (or something else). Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Also to note is that the serial number on my G5 doesn't fall within the range of those covered by the extended repair program for bad power supplies.
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi Dennis,
When you formatted did you Zero the Partition?
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the Erase tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion hopefully you'll be able to install.
after highlighting the drive, click on the Partition tab, Options button will be down below...
Boot off your Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.

  • New hard drives keep failing?

    Hi guys,
A few months ago I decided to upgrade my Mac with a couple of new hard drives. I replaced the optical bay with a data doubler and placed a 1TB Toshiba HDD in it. In the primary bay I put in a 250GB Samsung 840 SSD. It seemed to work really well at first, I had all my media on the HDD and my apps on the SSD. But soon I noticed that when listening to music it would skip like a scratched CD at random points, if I went back to that point it wouldn't skip at the same place, completely random. Same thing with video, but the visuals would pause and lag when the audio skipped. Also, sometimes it would freeze with apps like word processing and iphoto, showing the spinning wheel. Eventually, after reformating both drives, updating the SSD firmware, doubling the RAM and trying countless other tweaks like not turning the hard drives off when not needed, all to no avail, I ran S.M.A.R.T utility and found that the HDD had 56 reallocated bad sectors. I took the HDD back and got a replacement. Ran the utility again and had no bad sectors. But soon the issue with media came back and has been getting worse and worse. Ran the utility again and the new HDD now has 831 bad sectors. I've sent it off for another replacement, but I am worried that the same problem will keep reoccuring. The utility says that there is absolutely nothing wrong the SSD. I am wondering what you guys think is causing this? and if I should replace the SSD in case it is faulty (despite the utility saying otherwise) and its causing the HDD to develop the bad sectors and fail? Hopefully someone out there can help me with this as I am at my wits end. I have an MBP7 mid 2010 13 inch running Mavericks. 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. 4GB RAM (I doubled it to 8GB, but returned the new RAM after noticing no change.)
    Many thanks in advance,
    Jasper.

I replaced the optical bay with a data doubler and placed a 1TB Toshiba HDD in it. In the primary bay I put in a 250GB Samsung 840 SSD
Simplify things,  stick the SSD in the "front seat"
stick the slow HD in the optibay.
    JasperThaddeus
then does it make any sense for the HDD to be developing bad sectors so rapidly?
Yes, its technically called "infant HD mortality", .....or as the pros call it "a DUD".

  • Logging in to my Leopard Server network keeps failing

This keeps happening - it's almost as if the OD or AFP services are dying after a while (although they seem still to be running). What happens is that suddenly a client on the network cannot connect to a sharepoint as a registered user (guests seem OK). Any valid login just gets rejected. If I reboot the server then the client can login again. I haven't had time to investigate whether restarting the services resolves the problem, but whether it does or not there seems to be a problem on the server.
Can anyone throw light on what may be causing the login capability to keep dying?
This is really annoying, because I have been using Tiger Server happily for 3 years and fell for the marketing to upgrade to Leopard Server (which feels more and more to me like a beta release).
    Thanks,
    Ian.
    --

@Strontium, not sure what the basis for your opinion is, the server login processes *is* a client of  OpenDirectory and Kerberos and subject to the same PAM authorization process and thus the creation of a Kerberos ticket.
After nearly two days of digging, I found the issue was caused by the existance of user records for some of my network users in the /Local/Default directory on the server which had  an AuthenticationAuthority value pointing to an old, no longer used, Kerberos domain.  As these were OpenLDAP users, I hadn't even thought of examing the local directory until I noticed that the expected Kerberos ticket behavior was working properly for one of my accounts which was not a 'mobile' account.  I then realized only my 'mobile' accounts (which were nearly all of them) were the only accounts showing this problem.
I believe what happened is when I changed server's kerberos name at some point in the past (by backing up the OpenLDAP records, demoting the master, re-creating the master with the new Kerberos name, importing the records, and resetting passwords); I never thought to clean up any locally cached user records for my 'mobile' users.
To fix: I used the Directory Utility to delete the users from the local cache.  On next login by a mobile user, a correct local user record was created reflecting the proper Kerberos authority and now I'm getting Kerberos tickets on login again.

  • Drive keeps failing during burning.

ok, i just got a bunch of stuff off of iTunes for christmas and i was burning them to discs. now every time i try to burn a disc it gets about four or five songs in and the drive starts making a lot of noise and vibration. the disc pops out and an error message pops up saying something about a medium burn failure.
it was working fine just a little while ago and it still plays cds i've just burned. and its not like the burner isn't working at all considering it gets a few songs into the cd before it craps out. i tried it on multiple album/playlists. not sure what the deal is or how to fix it. any ideas, suggestions, answers, or insults are very welcome.

It does sound like the drive could be starting to fail. But before we assume the worst try to burn a CD with a different brand of CDs. It could be that you have a batch of bad media.

  • PC Synch and Windows Media player keep failing

    Hi,
The WMP/PC Synch driver keeps failing, I have to keep de-installing in Device Manager/Portable devices/Nokia 5310 Express Music (says ""the device is not working properly") and then reboot, even then it only works about 1 in 6 times and even when it does finally work it falls over normally during music upload (fails on USB and failing on Blue tooth).
I swapped the phone (courtesy of T-Mobile) but the 2nd one still fails, I tested on my Vista Notebook (still fails)
I have spent hours looking for a fix for this on line(but no joy).
I have WMP 11 and Windows Vista, I have a 5310, sync works fine (lie a dream) in Outlook, file transfer, and messages etc, but in Windows Media player it's a nightmare, I have reinstalled the driver 5 or 6 times (latest version from the Nokia web site) the PC is pretty new and clean, I have a creative MP3 player which work fine.
I get some very strange old 16bit Nokia error messages when it does fail (Vista jumps into compatibility mode)
I've come to the conclusion that this can only be caused by Nokia's PC Synch software, VERY FRUSTRATING ! Even though I love the phone,
    Happy to supply screens/messages etc
    Any help, pleaseeeee !

Here is one of the error messages (when it fails)
"Windows Driver Foundation: User Mode Driver Framework Host process stopped working and was closed"

I have a small issue with my SCCM server. The C drive keeps getting full in the sccm server I kept increasing and it just keeps getting maxed out. I have checked all the files and cannot seem to
find what the problem is. I have looked up in the web and everyone seems to have the same issue with their sccm servers as well do
you know any information on this or how to clean up the C drive? The Partition which holds the images and the distribution point is all good its just the C
drive which gets filled up. <o:p></o:p>

    I found the following:
All things you have in the console with content (Applications, packages/programs, SUM deployment packages, OS Images, etc.) will make a copy of the source in the Content Library.
The Content Library is cleaned up as these items are removed from ConfigMgr.
Your options are to either delete unneeded objects from ConfigMgr with the console (which will remove their content from the Content Library), or to
move the Content Library to another drive with ContentLibraryTransfer.exe from the
    Configuration Manager Toolkit.
Try this link which is discussing about your scenario.

    Help,
setup a new sql server 2012 on a windows 2012r2 server to replace old sql server 2005 on an old windows server 2003 machine.  When i test the ODBC connection locally on the server it works fine, however when i try to connect via windows 7 client machine

I think it must be a permissions thing, I've turned off the firewall for now and still no difference, 've also made sure remote connection is enabled.  I can connect to the other sql server in studio manager on the new machine however, i can't go do
the same in the old server, says:

the instance is def correct, as that is what i use to connect locally on the new machine and what it comes up on the studio manager on the new machine.  STarting to pull my hair out somewhat, i'm sure it's something really simple!

    Hello,
You are trying to connect to a named instance. Make sure the SQL Server Browser service is started on the SQL Server computer.
    Make sure TCP/IP is enabled.
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191294(v=sql.110).aspx
Try to disable Windows Firewall or security software on both, SQL Server instance and client computer.
Test basic connectivity too. Try to ping from the client computer to the SQL Server computer.
    Hope this helps.

How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing. I went through the process of clicking through the how to's and the troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that I need to install the adobe drive 5 but I can not complete the installation. I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

  • URLConnection POST to external server requiring keep-alive fails because request is HTTP/1.0

I have a class that when run as a "main" transmits a HTTP/1.1 post successfully

However when instantiated inside a weblogic servlet container, the post fails

Great. I have a question to BEA folks, if they ever read this newsgroup:
what is the reason for installing WLS protocol handlers, and, if there is
one, why the implementation is still buggy? I saw many, many instances when
code making outgoing connections failed to work in WLS, and the solution is
always the same - use handler which comes with the JVM.
