HP service guard and RAC or dataguard

HP service guard must use with RAC on HP unix server?
In dataguard how can we use the hp service guard?
will you pls. clarify.

HP Service guard is a clustering or High availability solution that protects you against hardware failure. Oracle Parallel server, the precursor to RAC, when implemented on HPUX platform required HP Service guard. With RAC, oracle bundles in its own clusterware and service guard is no longer a mandatory prerequisite. If Service Guard is installed oracle clusterware will delegate some of the cluster responsibilities to service guard.
Dataguard on the other hand is a Disaster recovery solution that protects you against site disaster or whole data center outage. With that said it is not uncommon to see dataguard being setup between two servers within same datacenter to protect against hardware failure or for reporting purposes.
How would you use dataguard with service guard? On the production site, you can use service guard for fail over the database between two nodes in case there is a hard ware failure. You can do the same for the DR site also.

  • MC Service Guard + Data Guard + Data Broker?

    Hi guys,
A clustered 2 nodes on HP-UX with MC service guard (active/standby), have a running oracle 10g db in one of the nodes. I am planning to implement data guard on the 2 node. But MC service guard is responsible for failover of the nodes, which I think is the same role of data broker. Would this cause a conflict between the MC service guard and data broker failover role? Should I not implement data broker? Could anyone give me some ideas? Thanks in advance.

YES!! you can install 10g grid control under HP MC/Service guard. I have done it with some undocumented tweaking. As this is an undocumented feature, use it at your own risk.
    Problem :
Installer picks up the hostname and the Management service is installed on the host instead of the package. When the package flips over to the other host the management service breaks.
    Solution :
Copy the CD/DVD to the host or better still download the media from edelivery.oracle.com to your host. (I personally do not mount CD/DVD on HP servers because of the crazy pfs mounting. It tends to hang the server if you don’t do it right). You will have to install from the copied media since you will be modifying one of the supplied ini files.
Edit oraparam.ini under Disk1/install in the copied installation media. Change SHOW_HOSTNAME=NEVER_SHOW to SHOW_HOSTNAME=ALWAYS_SHOW and save the file
Start the installer. During the installation there will be a screen to enter the hostname. Change the hostname to the package name. (The labels in the hostname screen did not display properly. I use Exceed. If you see a screen with your hostname in a text box, just change it to the package name and continue).
Towards the end of the installation, opmn configuration will fail. When it does open $ORACLE_HOME/webcache/webcache.xml and find the line “HOSTNAME=package_name” and change it to “HOSTNAME=hostname”. Retry the configuration step after making the change and your install should proceed and complete successfully.
Web cache does not like packages. You should have multiple copies of webcache.xml – one for each host in the package (webcache.host.xml) – with the corresponding hostname in each file. As part of the package startup webcache.host.xml should be copied as webcache.xml before "opmnctl startall".
Given Oracle’s direction and attitude, these solutions will be short lived. They want you to use RAC and Application Server HA instead of Service Guard.

  • What is the use of Service guard

    Hi
What is the of service guard, Is this for clustering purpose in O/S level

Service guard is a product implementing a so-called Shared Nothing Cluster.
This means one server is production, and the other server is completely dormant and takes over as soon as the first server crashes and doesn't come back.
This is also called an active/passive cluster.
Oracle has (on 9i) RAC (active-active cluster) and RAC Clusterguard (active-passive). This is the Oracle equivalent of Service Guard.

  • Load balancing in Tuxedo 9.1 and RAC

    Hello to all,
I have some doubts on the way of balancing load in tuxedo 9.1 and RAC (Oracle 10gR2).
Before, without RAC our configuration was the following one:
    GRP_A: service A001, service A002
    GRP_B: service B001, service B002
Both groups were attacking the same BBDD, Now with the configuration in RAC we have the following thing:
We have two intances RAC: ORARAC1 and ORARAC2
    TUXRACGROUPS=GRP_A1, GRP_B1; GRP_A2, GRP_B2
The groups GRP_A1 = GRP_A2 and GRP_B1 = GRP_B2, but the groups GRP_A1 and GRP_B1 use the instance ORARAC1 and GRP_A2 and GRP_B2 use the instance ORARAC. Summarizing:
    GRP_A1: service A001, service A002 (ORARAC1)
    GRP_B1: service B001, service B002 (ORARAC1)
    GRP_A2: service A001, service A002 (ORARAC2)
    GRP_B2: service B001, service B002 (ORARAC2)
    Have formed the variable TUXRACGROUPS=GRP_A1, GRP_B1; GRP_A2, GRP_B2
How is Tuxedo balancing the traffic?
    1) Does not balance load between RACGROUPS?
    2) Does it use RAC.. as favourite?
    3) Does the RACGROUPS balance when it's overlaeded or always?
    3) Does the same algorithm uses that LDBAL?, if this is affirmative, is it necessary to have formed in the ubb LDABL=Y?
    4) Tuxedo uses an algorithm of round-robin?
    5) others
I have looked for information but I have not found any information that could help to understanding it.
    Thanks in advance
    P.D.: Excuse my english :(

There is Oracle RAC routing information available at
    http://e-docs.bea.com/tuxedo/tux91/ads/adorac.htm#248431
If you are not running in a transaction, then the TUXRACGROUPS environment
variable will not be relevant and routing will be handled as it would be if
this environment variable were not set.
Assuming that GRP_A1 and GRP_A2 are the only groups that offer services A001
and A002 and GRP_B1 and GRP_B2 are the only groups that offer services B001
and B002, routing of service requests made within a transaction will be
    handled as follows:
    - Any call to A001 or A002 made within a transaction with an even GTRID
counter value will be handled by GRP_A1. (The GTRID counter value is the
last of the 3 hexadecimal numbers printed in the ULOG for messages printed
    within that transaction.)
    - Any call to A001 or A002 made within a transaction with an odd GTRID
counter value will be handled by GRP_A2.
    - Any call to B001 or B002 made within a transaction with an even GTRID
counter value will be handled by GRP_B1.
-Any call to B001 or B002 made within a transaction with an odd GTRID
counter value will be handled by GRP_B2.

  • Listener configuration with service guard

    Hello
We plan to work here with HP service guard on a cluster (oracle version 7.3 and hp UX 11). We want to distribute databases accross the nodes of the cluster and let them protected by service guard.
    Here's my main question.
I have a cluster with two nodes (A and B) and service guard but without OPS. Instance InstA is running on A protected by service guard. Instance InstB is running on B protected by service guard. I I use TNSNAMES.ora with the adresses of the packages guarding my instances.
If, after a problem, service guard switches for example instA from A to B, what will happen with the listener ?
Will we have now two listeners running on node B ?
    Or
will we have just one listener ?
In this later case, the listener running on B should be ready to accept connexions to instB but also to instA when instA is moved to B.
    Any hint is welcome.

If anyone else comes across this problem and they are trying to get SSL connections to the oracle database working but it is failing with ‘cannot hand off connection’, then in my experience the problem is most likely to be because of a firewall configuration.
It turns out that in a non-SSL environment, Oracle can seamlessly hand off the connection to another port without dropping the connection on it’s own side, and therefore the ports open on the the firewall can remain constrained to the initial connection port (usually 1521). However, in an SSL environment Oracle needs to hand off the connection to a different port number, and because of the SSL handshake required, that port not only needs to be open on the firewall, Oracle needs to be told to use that port number explicitly which is done using the DISPATCHERS setting.
For example, for one dispatcher, that could be run on 24841 while the listener is run on 2484. In this case, set up the firewall with ports 2484 and 24841 open. Set up the listener for TCPS on port 2484. Then to set up the dispatcher, connect as sys (sysdba) to oracle and run
    alter system set dispatchers=‘(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCPS)(HOST=myhost.domain.tld)(PORT=24841))(INDEX=1)’ scope=both;
The index=1 makes sure that you add this dispatcher in a new slot without clobbering your existing TCP listener (which will be in index=0). You will obviously
Good luck. TCPS is a pain in the posterior to get working.

  • Distributed Transaction Processing Services in Oracle RAC 11.2

    Hi,
Do we have to set the DTP parameter to TRUE for workload services that are going to be used for distributed transaction processing?
    Something like this ...
    srvctl modify service -d crm -s xa_01.service.us.oracle.com -x TRUE
Oracle 11.2 document is not very clear on this requirement. At one stage it says...
"Tightly coupled XA transactions no longer require the special type of singleton services (that is, Oracle Distributed Transaction Processing (DTP) services) to be deployed on Oracle RAC database. XA transactions are transparently supported on Oracle RAC databases with any type of services configuration."
But at the end of the same section...
"An external transaction manager, such as OraMTS, coordinates DTP/XA transactions. However, an internal Oracle transaction manager coordinates distributed SQL transactions. Both DTP/XA and distributed SQL transactions must use the DTP service in Oracle RAC."
So do we have to use DTP services with RAC or not?
    Thanks,

    Hi Sanjeev,
I have some critical applications using Tuxedo on 10gR1/R2 RAC databases and there is no doubt to have with this versions.
Starting with 11gR1 it seems the main limitation is over...but there are still limitations ! To be honest I will keep the DTP parameter to true after the migration in 11.2 to avoid any problem. It is still recommended even if not mandatory :
To provide improved application performance with distributed transaction processing in Oracle RAC, you may want to take advantage of DTP services. Using DTP services, you can direct all branches of a distributed transaction to a single instance in the cluster. To load balance across the cluster, it is better to have several groups of smaller application servers with each group directing its transactions to a single service, or set of services, than to have one or two larger application servers.

  • Database upgrade in hp service guard package

    Hi,
I am going to upgrade 8.1.7.3(five node os cluster using HP service Guard package) database to 10.2.0.4 in which 8.1.7.4 patchset is to be appllied as we can not upgrade directly.
ORACLE_HOME has been shared with four node and oracle client has been installed indivisually on each node.
Now I have to upgrade database to 10.2.0.4 and also I have to install Grid control agent on each server and oracle client is to be upgraded as well.
According to me steps to be followed as below:
    (1) upgrade 8.1.7.3 to 8.1.7.4 and upgrade to 10g on active node.
(2)Upgrade client to 10g on each node.
(3)install grid control agent on each node.
Now I would like to know How paasive node will work in this scenario and what needs to be done for this imlementation?
Also please let me know how I can identify whether existing software binaries is 64 bit or 32 bit?
If any issue you guys have faced during upgrade of this version then please share with me.
How grid control will be installed and configured?
Currently RMAN has not been configured and this will be configured during upgrade,Please let me know any suitable method and precausion.
Thanks in advance for your help and knowledge share!

  • ASM - Service Guard/SGeRAC - Disk Groups - Sizing

    Hai.
I'm new to ASM. We want to use ASM with HP-UX11.23 and MC Service Guard/SGeRAC A11.1.17. We decided to start with initial DB sizing of 25GB, I mean the Disk Group ( hence, Volume Group) size. So, I would like to know recomended no: of Disks in this Disk Group and Disks sizing? We want to go with only one Disk Group. Also, I have few questions:
    1) Do we need to have separate Disk Groups for ArchiveLogs & Database Files?
    2) Can we use ASM Disk Groups for Archive Logs or is a regular File System recomended or can we have both?
    regards,
    Dileep Tallam.

Looking at the scalability and Data Growth data rate in you Org.., say in next 2 to 5 years ..... Estimate the size of Disk Group.
Single Disk Group is a good idea, as multiple disk groups gives no performance agains.
If planning for Flash too , Then give a separate Disk Group to Flash.
    Comming to
    1) Do we need to have separate Disk Groups for ArchiveLogs & Database Files?
No need for a separate Disk group for Arch/, Ctrl, Data, Redo. You can put all in one Disk Group.
    2) Can we use ASM Disk Groups for Archive Logs or is a regular File System recomended or can we have both?
Archive Logs are supported on ASM. Depending upon your Backup Stragey.
    If RMAN - ASM
    else
    file system.

  • Using WebLogic in HPUX-Cluster with MC Service Guard

    Hi
    I have the following problem:
Bea WLS is installed on a shared device with MC Service Guard
Integration. This Package has a distinct IP Address to which the License
    File is pointing.
This IP Address belongs also to the maschine the shared device is
    attached to.
When I start WebLogic it always uses the IP-Address belonging to the
maschine the shared device is mounted on rather than the one the package
has. This behavior leads to a license exception.
Is there a solution for using MC ServiceGuard IPs or do I have to
    convert my license ?

We're running BEA Weblogic in a HP-UX cluster over here, and it works without any
    problems.

  • RAC and RAC One Node on the same server?

    Hello all,
Anyone know if having RAC and RAC One Node on the same server is possible, supported, and recommended? Our architecture group is moving towards this configuration as a standard, and I need solid direction about feasability.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Jack Silvey| CVS Caremark | Executive Advisor, IT Systems | CVS Caremark

Yes you can have the RAC and RAC one on the same cluster. For support and recommendations raise a service request with oracle support

  • I cannot receive email properly now. When I open mail, it says that is downloading about 1,700 emails. At the very end, it gives me my newest ones. But this takes a long time. I've contacted the Internet service provider and verified all the right setting

I cannot receive email properly on either my IPad or my IPhone. I have had them for over a year and they have always worked fine. Until three days ago, when they both started acting up. On the IPad, when I open mail, it says it is downloading about 1,700 emails. At the very end, which takes quite a while to get to, I finally get the most recent ones. The IPad is sending emails just fine.
On my IPhone, when I open mail, it says it is downloading 100 emails, but it doesn't do that. And it gives me no new emails at all. The IPhone is sending email just fine.
I have already deleted the email accounts on both devices and reinstalled them. I've contacted the Internet service provider and verified all the right settings. The Outlook email on my desktop is working perfectly.

WMV is a heavily-compressed format/CODEC, and the processing time will depend on several factors:
Your CPU, which is not that powerful in your case
Your I/O sub-system, which is likely a single HDD on your laptop
The source footage. What is your source footage?
Any Effects added to that footage. Do you have any Effects?
Each of those will have an impact on the time required.
The trial has only one main limitation - the watermark. Now, there are some components, that have to be activated, but are not with the trial, but they would be evident with Import of your source footage, if it's an issue.
    Good luck,

  • Entering values in Web Services ID and Description, for External Catalog

    Hi,
I am trying to connect to an external Vendor Catalog from ERP. Pl note that we just have ERP ECC 6.0 and no SRM. I went to SPRO and followed menu path 'Materials Management >> Purchasing >> Web Services: ID and Description'. I am not sure what to enter in 1) Seq. Number  2) Name of Parameter for Web Service and 3) Call Structure COLUMNS.
I have URL from Vendor, User Name and Password. I need to know what values are mandatory here so I can successfully connect to external Catalog. If someone can give me sample values, I can try.
    Any help is appreciated,
    Niranjan

    Update on 08/23/2011.
We are able to connect to Vendor Catalog, select items in Cart. When I press 'Place Order' button, I see all items populated in SAP PO ME21N screen. We can then add other information and create PO. This is working great. We have another question. Heard that with ERP ECC 6.0, we can only connect 1 vendor catalog. But with SRM, we can connect more than  1 vendor catalog. Is there a BAPI or change SAP code to connect more than 1 vendor catalog from ECC 6.0 ?

  • How to synchronize PI service registry and IBM WSRR

    Hello All,
In our current project we have developed one web service which resides in SAP CE and is registered in SAP PI Service Registry.
But our client has IBM websphere that acts as a middleware for all ther services (interfaces/web services)
Now, I need to understand how to synchronize SAP PI Service Registry with IBM WSRR (Websphere Services Registry and Repository)
What are the steps/configurations need to be performed at PI end and IBM WSRR end?
