HP SIMPLE PASS ERROR

hello, I have a problem with my fingerprint reader (Simplepass). It doesn't work since yesterday and I can't even log in with another option because it crashes everytime I try to choose another option and says that I need to scan my finger again. what should I do to fix it?

Hi @jeanetoctaviani ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY 15 Notebook and issues with Simplepass crashing. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook.
When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues.
What browser are you using? Have you tried a different browser?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

  • How can I completely uninstall Simple Pass Data file? where is data file kept?

Computer came with Simple Pass finger print reader.  Won't let me program Windows log on unless I enter Windows log on password.  I DO but it says "incorrect from what was originally password."
I don't know what that would be, (tried all old passwords)  so I want to ERASE ALL RETAINED DATA and reinstall.
ADD/REMOVE program removes program but data retained.  Then deleted Validity Sensor under Biometric devices so all data should be gone but upon reinstall it still says i have wrong password!
Where else is this data kept on computer and how can i remove so I can fix program?
Anyone familiar with Simplepass or recommend another fingerprint program that would work with HP Envy?
    Thanks in advance.

    Frank,
Updating the OS to Windows 8.1 does destroy the Recovery Manager -- side "benefit" that seems to go unmentioned by some of the enthusiasts of Upgrades.  On the other hand, unless the system comes with 8.1 there is little you can do -- Windows 8 is rather sad.    You have the choice of a weird hybrid "almost" Windows 8.1 or running Windows 8.  Eeeew.  I chose the upgrade on the one Windows 8 system I have -- same level of frustration but at least the problems are different than running sad Windows 8.  Smiling.
Because you know your system runs Windows 8.1 -- and there are apparently the Drivers at your system's HP Support pages for Windows 8.1 (very important), you might consider purchasing Windows 8.1 Pro and being done with the hybrid upgrade OS.  You still lose the Recovery Manager, of course, purchased 8.1 does not provide the HP Recovery Manager -- but at least the OS is stable.   You still install the HP drivers from the computer's Support site, of course.  I actually purchased 8.1 for my upgrade system and have only been too lazy to install it.  Sigh.
You can use third party Image software to back up the system.  Certainly not the only one, and maybe not even the best according to whom you ask -- one such tool:
Redo software is free and is NOT Windows dependent.
The software can be used with Both Windows and Linux Operating Systems.

  • Checking the update of HP Simple Pass is no longer working.

    Hi,
This is the version of my HP simple pass
However, whenever I check for a new  update  of it, I faced this error.
Also, when trying to visit Authon Teck Store, I found 'This page can’t be displayed'
NOTE: I have a broadband internet with a speed of 512Kbps.

    Cooperator,
I realize you are not using the latest version in the version 6 series.
    From the guide:
    sp63224 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.276 Win7-8
You should install V6.0.100.276 over the top of version 6.0.100.272.
Someone on the Forum has reported that the VERY latest Chrome may not be working with HP SimplePass V6.0.100.276.  The 276 version did work with Chrome as of a few weeks ago.  If the LATEST version of CHROME does.not work, consider downgrading Chrome - or changing browsers - or waiting for a fix - or checking online for a fix.
Print all Webcards does not appear to work.  This has been the case for a while.   You will need to find a workaround.  I created a .jpg Snip of the web face in SimplePass, edited it Paint with text and hints I desired, and then saved it in an appropriate offline location.  You may select a different method that appeals to you.
There is no way to output the .tsd (or .opi) file into a readable format -- it would defeat the purpose of the file being encrypted.  As with any file, the encryption can be easily broken with the right tools; keep the file stored in a safe location.
You are correct; as stated in the guide:  The AuthenTec 6.x series of the HP SimplePass program and the Softex 8.x series of the HP SimplePass program are not compatible.  The programs are written by different code writers; the encrypted webcard export files are in different formats.   To some extent the decision to run one version or the other is a matter of choice.  For some systems, the type of hardware dictates the decision and the older or the newer version (8 series) is the best or only option.

It is a nice way to say “Thank You" for the help.
Although I strive to reflect HP's best practices, I do not work for HP.

  • Pavilion dv8t 1200 - simple pass/digital persona software won't install

    Howdy,
Windows 7 Home Premimum 64 bit
    Intel Core i7 Q720 @1.60GHz
    Pavilion dv8t - 1200 Notebook PC
The reader worked fine for the first few months/year, however it then only started working for signing in & occasionaly for sites & gTalk. I was cool with that...annoyed, but cool. Oh, it also didn't work to sign in if I had to sign in again after the screen saver came up or if the machine went into hybernate.
Today I decided to see if there was an update or if I could get it working for something other than signing in. After installing what was most likely the wrong package, I uninstalled it through the Program  Manager.
I then shut down the machine, ran CCleaner (there were digital persona errors removed...about 8) & went to install sp50048 which I believe is the correct one for my machine.
During the install it tells me the folder/files already exist, (even though I uninstalled it) & ithey do, then at the instal phase "Registering Modules" I receive the following error:
    Error 1722
    InstallDPPassFilter_x64.4D0EAAF1_2D33_4FFF_AA08_6...
And then in rolls it back.
I turned off the biometric devices in the control panel, ran CCleaner again, shut the machine down completely, tried installing again & had the same issue.
I turned the biometrics on in the control panel & recieve this message:
"Biometric devices are turned on, however I'm told “Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers.”
I have tried a few methods from 'solved' under both simple pass & digital persona
Thank you all for reading & attempting to help.

    Howdy,
Thank you for your advice, however it did not work out.
    Addressing each point in succession:
I can not get Digital Persona to install, therefore I can not interact with it hence none of the steps in the Setup and Use HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader were available to moi.
Troubleshoot a Fingerprint Reader did not solve the issue, however I did go through the steps there so I shall describe my results in an effort to see if it helps home in on the problem.
All files used to update were pulled from the hp.com site using my Product Number.
Update the BIOS - BIOS was up to date
Enable Biometric Support (in BIOS) - Following the instructions it appears mine is always in the state: Enable
Check for Windows Support - Validity Sensor appears under Biometric Devices in the Device Manager
Update the Device Driver - (Had deleted the driver previously, so installed & updated) - Updated/Installed
Update the Access Manager - Attempted to install Digital Persona 5.1.0.175 A, but again during the install it gave me the same error (as my original post describes) & did not install.
As a final note, Windows does not see the reader in the Control Panel (large icons) Biometric devices even though it is turned on.
The reader worked fine before I tried to update it to a newer version & I still believe I installed an incorrect version of the Simple Pass software.

How can one do the following in terms of state machine :

One way is to convert those 1-N cases to another state machine and reuse it under the main state machine (for example the one I showed).

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a terrific place to find answers.
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I see that your Simplepass was working until this morning when  it was not.  You have uninstalled and reinstalled software and updated the drivers but no change.
    Was there any updates installed?
Have you tried dong a restore back to when it was all working?  HP PCs - Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8)
Next I would do a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
If the issue still remains I suggest you do a recovery back to factory.  HP PCs - Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) .  During the recovery process you will notice an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.  If you have not recently done one I suggest you do one now.

    Hi,
I have a DV6-6136NR with hp simple pass 2011 I am using firefox 8.0 with windows 7 x64 bit. I am able to use the simple pass on the firefox browser & successfully sign in on other websites including bank sites, however when I attempt to use it for www.fidelity.com, 401k.fidelity.com it gives an error. I can login manually and I have triple checked the correct user name and password are entered in simple pass but after swiping my finger it then says on the websites Error: The username or password you entered is not correct. Please try again. The fidelity site was a preset website in the simple pass I have even deleted and put in the different websites to get my information and manually I am successful upon signing in. I only get the error when using simple pass. Any suggestions on how to get the simple pass to work on the fidelity site so I can access it through fingerprint reader?

  • Editing web addresses in Simple Pass

For some reason, Simple Pass has incorrectly stored one of my web addresses in its database. I can see that the web address that it displays when I want to access that site (via Simple Pass) has too many "w"s following the http login protocol. If I manually type in the correct address and browse to the site, I cannot bring up Simple Pass because it has already stored that site, albeit incorrectly. How can I edit the address that it has incorrectly stored? Also, the splash screen for Simple Pass has a tendency to hang up if I try to open Simple Pass by itself. (I have already performed a BIOS upgrade on this system through the HP Assistant right after I purchased it so I don't think that's the problem).

    Hi Blu,
    What OS?
    OK,  Windows 8?
    =====================================================================================
It is possible that Splash is responding to something other than an internal corruption.
    Continuing with the "easy" fixes:
    Reset your notebook:
Notebooks- Forced Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues- Sealed Non-Removable Battery
Notebooks - Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues - Removable Battery
Boot up the system and check -- can you run Splash?
    =========================================
This is a little far-fetched, but still within the realm of possible issues because Splash does require the input of your fingerprint to validate the database access as soon as the program starts:
Try reinstalling your current Validity Sensor Driver:
Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager > Biometric Devices > Validity Sensor >>
Right-Click on the Validity Sensor driver and "Uninstall" (do NOT delete it)
Restart / Reboot the computer and log in
The driver will resinstall itself as you log in
    ======================================================================================
The next bits you can do now, or, if needed, you can do later; it is up to you.  The point here is that there may be something that is interfering with the Splash program.  The key is "may be".  Yours is an unusual problem, so there is no guarantee that there is any use in poking around at the rest of what the system is doing -- it may be a dead end.
    Rogue Programs and Program Hogs:
You can run the Resource Monitor - and leave it running when you bring up the Splash program.  See if you notice anything unusual.  How will you tell?  Not sure, but the Splash may "spike" or hang, or grab 100% of the CPU resource and not really die after the screen disappears... or another program may be running at 100% of CPU and not let the Splash program get enough resource to start properly.  Understanding the Resource Monitor is as much art as it is science; it is facinating to those of us who breathe this stuff and it is a convoluted, dismayingly complicated mess to a lot of other people.
    Errors and Trouble Spots:
If you think the Resource Monitor is bad, wait until you see the Event Viewer.  Hint:  If you do not find Splash, then iou might be best served by using the Event "find" tool to search for "simplepass".
    Troublesome Companions:
In Windows 8, the Startup programs - that is, those programs that start when the systems boots are easiy accessed from the Task Manager.  This is one of the nicer features of Windows 8, in my opinion, and it centralizes much of what the computer is doing, or will do, at a given time.  You can restrict the programs that start when the system boots in an attempt to find out if "something" is getting in the way of SimplePass Splash.

You may or may not have the Latest SimplePass.  It is possible the version has upgraded since your machine was manufactured and shipped to you.

The Latest (at this writing) -- this matches what is in your computer's website:
    sp59664 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.257 Win7-8
You do need to run the Validity Sensor Driver for your system:
Software & Driver Downloads - HP Pavilion m6-1035dx Entertainment Notebook PC
    Select your OS
Drop to Driver - Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices
Select the Validity Sensor Driver - if it is newer than the one you have in your Device Manager > Biometric Devices, download and install it.
    =====================================
Be Aware:  If you get to this point, you are looking at losing your webcard passwords...
    Rules for Success:
Driver ALWAYS installs First, then a reboot
Software installs Second, set up the basics (enroll fingers - at least three), and another reboot
    Back up the webcard database
Remove the existing SimplePass softwre with the following:
Fixit -- Fix problems with programs that can't be installed or uninstalled
Download the latest SimplePass installation package to your notebook; pay attention to where it lands.
    Reinstall the Driver
Reboot the computer and log in
Install the Software, set up the basic enrollment, Reboot
Make a backup of your webcards
    Export the Webcard Database:
When you have working SimplePass software, Export your Webcards.  In the event that you must remove the SimplePass software, your webcard backup can be used (imported) to restore your website login information.
Start SimplePass > Settings > Export     NOTE:  File will be named *.tsd
    =================================================================================
If this doesn't fix it, then you may have some file system corruption going on...
Using System File Checker (SFC) to Restore System Files
And that, is about it for now.

  • Simple Pass not working with Windows 7 Premium

    I have a Pavillion Notebook, model dv6-6b51sa running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit O/S
For some time now my Simple Pass has not worked. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the programme but to no avail. I have read several posts to the community here and have tried just about all recommendations including; hard reset, system restore (in case it had anything to do with Windows updates) a BIOS update and shutting down and rebooting after each process.
Now, having reinstalled Simple Pass (from the HP Support website) , biometric devices do not even feature in Device Manager!
Can anyone kindly offer me assistance?

    Hi @tagl
Welcome to HP Forums! I will be happy to help with the SimplePass problem you are experiencing. The fact you are missing a biometric device in your Device Manager would be a problem because for it to work you need the software and the accompanying biometric device. Here is the Validity Fingerprint Sensor Driver, install that and then see if you are able to use your fingerprint reader.

  • The same problem again with HP Simple Pass fingerprint reader after upfrading from Firefox 4 to Firefox 5. I have already installed HPSimPlePass 7.0.74.0 to fix the problem after upgrading to Firefox 4.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 with a fingerprint reader. I had the same problem as many other people when upgrading to Firefox 4, : I couldn't use the HP Simple Pass to enter a website needing a username and password by just swiping my fingerprint. I fixed the problem by downloading the new HPSimPlePass 7.0.74.0. This fixed the problem and I was very happy. Since upgrading to Firefox 5 I have the same problem again, but I already have the new version of HP Simple Pass. How can this be fixed so that I can use this fingerprint scan feature again, or where can I download Firefox 4 again?

    Hello,
we have a custom login module to authenticate user in ldap and to grant application roles stored in db.
Is it possible to pass error catched in login module to the user (display the error message on login screen)? We think it is helpful to see correct reason why the user couln't be logged in.
    Notes:
Jdev version is 10.1.3.1. Custom login module was written using Frank Nimphius guidelines and examples.
    Rado

    Hi,
if you followed this example then it is configured for container managed authentication, in which case the error message cannot be propagated to the view.
There was a similar discussion on the J2EE forum and the answer was that the OC4J team will put this on a list of enahncements they track. The technical reason appears to be that the J2EE spec does not foresee to tell users about the "why" authentication fails - which clearly is a limitation of the Spec.
