HP SimpleSave freezes explorer

I have an HP SimpleSave drive (md1500h) that freezes Windows explorer anytime it is plugged in. It worked fine for a few days and I transferred all my files to it, but now I can't get them back. The drive emits a steady clicking sound while the light flashes (not sure if it always did) and my laptop does read it but I can't open the subfolders before explorer freezes and has to be restarted. It never fully recovers unless I unplug the drive. I've tried it on two different computers (plugged in before AND after startup) with the same result. I just reset my laptop to factory and everything I had is on this drive
Is there anyway I can recover some of it?

Guys I had the same problem on my SimpleSave and traced the issue to swapping it to three computers--a PC Laptop running XP, my laptop running Windows 7 and a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard OS. The problem is the data is available only on the Mac but not on the Windows--but still it cannot download to the hard drive. I called the Philippine HP guys and they told me to reformat the hard disk. I told them "are you crazy? They have no other solution for me. It seems that the length of time on this thread, even HP has no solution. By the way in the Philippine PC Online Forum a lot of HP SimpleSave users have had the same problem. Could it be a product defect?

Quicktime freezes explorer

Every time I open a directory in explorer with quicktime movies in it (Windows XP) explorer freezes. In task mgr Quicktime is taking 50% of rescources, but can't complete whatever the operatyion is, showing thumbs or whatever...it's only when in thumbnail mode I'm pretty sure.

Select User Library/Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist and com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Explorer stalls when trying to save while disconnected from VPN

I use a VPN to access work files at home with a mapped network drive. Because it limits bandwidth, I keep it disconnected most of the time. However,
anytime the VPN is disconnected and I try to save a file in Office, or attach a file on Windows Mail, it freezes explorer until I reconnect the VPN even if the last save spot wasn't on the mapped network drive. For whatever reason, since it is a recent save
location, Windows can't function properly until I'm reconnected to the drive even if I don't intend to save to it. Is there a way to disable windows mail and word from trying to find the disconnected mapped drive and freezing up until I reconnect? It is extremely
inconvenient to have to reconnect to the VPN anytime I need to use Word or attach a file to an email.

First, I have tested following things.
Use process monitor to check the process when saving word file. Noticed that when open the browser explorer, my mapped the drive was explored.
Considering that this issue can be caused if the explorer.exe hang on browsing the mapped network drive.
Please Download the process monitor to capture the system events during repro this issue, filter out the winword.exe and navigate the Network Activity, and see if there is any failure.

Also, check the event log and post back the explorer.exe hang event.

Windows freezes when I connect my iPod

I just got an iPod Nano. It works perfectly on my girlfriend's computer but has serious problems on mine. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 8600 (noteboook), she has an HP notebook. Problems:
- Explorer becomes really sluggish (but for some reason firefox works fine)
- It never stops saying "do not disconnect" even after I left it connected all night
- If I restart my computer with it connected the BIOS will not finish its POST
- It only sometimes shows up in iTunes / My computer, but it causes my computer to run so slowly I can't do anything with it anyway
Basically, it freezes explorer and iTunes so bad that I can'at do anything with it. Please Help! Thanks.

Oh, this is embarrassing. I fixed it. The problem was that I had shut off something important in startup :S

Classic 80gb locked, tried formatting now access denied

I'm not that knowledgeable about ipods but ill start with im running win7 pro and itunes 9.0.3. Got a new pc and whenever I would plug in it would freeze itunes so close that and go to my computer and would freeze explorer if I tried to open it. With that I came to the conclusion there's something corrupt and the plan was to format, and restore with apple software. Half way through format it quit working and that's were I'm at now. In properties it shows 0 bytes across the board. When I try to format again I get a message "you do not have sufficient rights to perform this operation." and when I get into the pods security tab I get "you do not have permission to view this objects security properties. To view its security properties you can try taking ownership of the object... and so on" I tried that and I get "Access is Denied. "
So by trying to fix my problem I think i've made it a lot worse. Help please!

I don't think this will work for everyone but it did for me. Tried doing quick format instead of a full format and it worked, itunes recognized it and restored it no problem and it's working again

Zen nano plus 1GB not fully connec

Just tried to connect a new Zen Nano plus gb to my XP machine. 
I can see it in Device Manager (both disk dri'ves and USB) and it says its working properly

But, it takes about 5 min to appear on Explore and then it freezes Explore and cant be read.

I have installed the Creative Mass storage drivers.

I've tried to update the firmware to .3.03 (from .2.03) but no go. It recognized it in recovery mode and sets a driver but the .3.03 install program takes it out of recovery with no changes to the firmware (it keeps searching for a compatible device with no luck)

I have also tried different USB ports, checking the power lever (which is OK) and assigning a device letter but Disk Management wont see it until after 5 min and then the device is not available

Very Quirky - any suggestion?

I'm about to send it back (very disappointed with Creative Support as I own Jukebox III and just lost my MuVo.

I tired that and so many more things (restarting, deleting driver and re-installing, deleting media program, different USB ports, checking power allocations for ports, different cables etc.)
I'm a smart guy (BSEE) and spent about 5 hours trying to get this thing to work and no go - still quirky so I just dropped it off at the Post Office to return to Amazon.
Honestly, it not worth my time to spend 5 hours trying to get it to work after paying good money for it. Poor QC testing, poor firmware, and poor support.
What I don?t understand is why Creative doesn?t admit that these devices have a problem and either recall them or fix them. Look at the number of hits the "Zen Nano Plus Connection Problems " thread has! Over 200 hits.
This is obviously a problem and they have their head in the sand. And it irks me when companies do this; release a product that is faulty and let their customers sort it out.
I suggest a thread that logs the problems with respect to each device.
Example:
Thread: Zen Nano Plus Problems:
) connection problems: 493
2) Automatically powering off problems: 327
3) Etc
Each person could add their one occurrence to the running total and someone could sort through and actually find the number of occurrences a problem happens. This can get a company to own up to larger design and QC issues which they shove out the door to boost the bottom line.
But what do I know, I just stumbled upon this site googling ?Zen Nano Plus Connection Problems?
I'm moving on now and thank everyone for their help.

Hyper V CSV not working on 1 server

hello
we are running a 3 server hyperv setup with windows server 2008 r2 datacenter.
we are using cluster shared volumes for these 3 servers.
the servers are connected to the storage via 2 methods... isci and a sas cable.
we created 4 cluster disks and this setup worked for about a year. all three servers see the csv... live migrates work.. among the three servers and its all good.
about three weeks ago.. 1 server just stopped seeing the csv drives/folder.
when u click on the csv folder in the local drive it freezes explorer... even though on that bad server all the validations check out.. no errors just a few warnings..
in the event viewer for the storage we see timeout to the cluster and then bad network path errors...
but network wise everything pings out and has no issues..
after multiple restarts and updating drivers and storage management stuff... it still 2 that works and this last one doesnt see it for no good reason..
can anyone help?

FireFox upgraded automatically today and since then I can't launche it...it freezes up and I have to shut it off at the computer...I can access Internet Explorer

FireFox automatically upgraded today. When I try to launche it, it only loads about half the page. (I use Google as my home page) It just gets stuck there. I try to close out the page and I get "this program is not responding". I can launche Internet Explorer with no problem, (I much prefer using FF, but if I can't get into it...) so it has to be something with FireFox. FF freezes, so I end up having to shut of my computer AT the computer, because it won't shut off at the desktop monitor. Windows asks me to send a report and I have. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but my Norton antivirus prevented a plugin from happening...I don't really understand it all...

Click wheel ipod freezes up windows explorer/delayed write error

Sorry for the length of this, but I have been dealing with this for a while.
I have two 5G 20GB iPod's that I can't sync to either of my computers.
I usually sync it on my desktop, which is a P4 2.4Ghz, 512MB, XP PRO, MoBo is Asus P4C800, I would connect them with the firewire connection directly from the back of the motherboard.
My iPod's Hard Drive failed. So I replaced it with another Toshiba Drive (MKGAL2006). It didn't have the apple logo on it, but I read that it really didn't matter. When I plugged it in, it immediately detected at first, but when it was auto-updating music, it would get to about 2/3rds of my music library (13 G's) and then I would get an unknown error -124 from iTunes. I would then eject the ipod from itunes, and eject it from the windows menu. When I would check to see what music made it onto my ipod, none would be listed. When I reconnected it, it showed in itunes that I had 9 Gigs of "Other" data on it, but none of it was music. I would then set the ipod to manual update. This locked up the computer, and wouldn't unlock until I unplugged the ipod from the firewire cable. The ipod would then lock up the computer the second I plugged it in, so I put it in disk mode. I would then need to restore my ipod when I plugged it back in. I was then able to upload music to it, however, I couldn't transfer more than 25 songs at a time without getting a "Unknown error -124" from itunes or "Delayed write failure" from windows. I was getting pretty far along with this system, until I finally got a BSOD, with a memory failure error, and memory dump. But there was no program specified. Now, when I plug it in, it shows as removable drive (E:), autoplay will run for 10 minutes, and itunes becomes unresponsive, as will my computer. When I right click on the ipod in my computer, it says the drive cannot be accessed or is unresponsive.
I tried my girlfriends ipod after this on her profile in windows. It followed the same process, during auto sync it would get to a 2 GB's of data, and then get error -124 in itunes. It was showing up as the name of her ipod, however in my computer. When I ejected, switched to manual, then reconnected, it now shows as removable disk in My computer.
I then tried it on my TOSHIBA laptop (1.5 Ghz Celeron, xp home, 504 MB memory,) through the USB cable and fresh install of itunes (7.41).
Mine made a connection, I had to restore it, and it began to sync up music, it got to 2.5 Gigs, and then I got a windows explorer message saying there is no disc in the drive, please insert one. I was able to eject the IPOD (as it was listed in itunes, but I named it something else when I restored it)from itunes, but ejecting it from windows froze up the system tray, and after waiting 15 minutes, I eventually just unplugged it.
I tried my girlfriends ipod, and it was able to install in windows, but won't get listed in itunes, but itunes is responsive.
I am very frustrated with this. Please let me know if there is any vital information with this that I am missing

So I tried sticking my girlfriends ipod back into the laptop through USB for a couple hours. iTunes locked up, and the iPod got hot. So I disconnected it manually, and I got a unhappy face, that wouldn't reset no matter what. In frustration, I just left everything alone for a couple days.
I found out online that people were having success with these unhappy ipod faces by slapping the back of the case after they hard reset the ipod (press menu and select). So I did just that. And it worked. The ipod was back up and running. I plugged it into the laptop, and it updated itself. iTunes warned me that it was preselected for another library, so to add any music, it would go into another playlist as a secondary library. However, it only added music that wasn't on there before. So Boom, I got one iPod working.
The one I had, whose HDD I replaced, wasn't so lucky. I was still getting stuck restoring it, then hooking it up, and it updated several gigs of music (very slowly) and then would freeze up itunes, and I would have to disconnect. After having read on some forums (I highly recommend you read http://www.notpopular.com/blogs/josh/2005/12/24/replacing-the-hardrive-of-an-ipo d, the comments taught me a lot) that reconnecting the IDE cable on their hard drives got rid of the unhappy faces and folder icons. So I cracked open my ipod, and replaced the replacement hard drive with the original one from apple. SOB actually worked. I put the ipod back together, and hooked it into the USB. It updated about 3000 songs, and showed that sync was complete. I unhooked it, but found there was no music listed under songs. Weird. So I set it into disk mode (reset with menu and select, and at the apple logo hold play and select) and plugged back in, I ejected after 30 or so songs, and found that those 30 songs were listed. I know that disk mode works. So I hook it back in, and I am happy to say that my ipod is working with the original hard drive. I didn't even have to pay the $54 bucks it cost for another drive. I also learned about diagnostic mode ,that isn't written about in the official boards (http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml)
I can check my hard drive, and memory, all sort of groovy tests on there.
And at this point, I am checking out my 3rd generation ipod that I long ago gave up as a hard drive problem. I reseated the hard drive connection and put it into diagnostic mode, which verified my hard drive was fine. So we'll see how that goes.

Internet Explorer freezes when accessing sites using Flash

I am using Windows 7 64-bit, Internet Explorer 8 32-bit and Flash Player 10.1.r102.64. Also Norton Internet Security 2010.
I am having multiple problems that seem to have arisen more or less simultaneously, I don't know if they're connected or even if I've caused some while trying to fix others.
My difficulty with Flash Player is that Internet Explorer seems to freeze whenever attempting to open a web page that uses Flash, I then get the error message "Adobe Flash Player Installer/Uninstaller 10.1 r102 has stopped working."
Additionally, I find I am unable to install some Software, specifically Chrome, Firefox and CCleaner - the installer seems to run, but then nothing happens. Also my attempts at using System Restore have either failed or made matters worse. Most recently when I open Internet Explorer I get the error message "ButtonMonitor has stopped working."
I would be most grateful for any insight into how to fix my Flash-related problem, or into the possible relation my difficulties may have to one another.

Thanks for responding. I'm really getting the impression I'll be better off without Norton. My virus and firewall protection consist of the Norton and whatever is intrinsic to Windows 7. I'm afraid I didn't recognize all the sets of initials you used, so we'll see how I did.

I don't know what an NPSWF file is, but I didn't see anything I recognized as one. The only file that seems to have version information is FlashUtil10l_ActiveX which is 10.1.102.64
In Internet Explorer I found ShockwaveFlashObject version 10.1.102.64 listed as "enabled" under both "All add-ons" and "Run without permission"

Firefox freezes when opening a window with PDF files, etc., yet it works perfectly when using explorer as browser.

I think Firefox mozilla is having issues with Adobe reader. It frequently crashes. I think this may be why my computer freezes when pulling up a PDF file or other text windows, yet, everything works perfect when using Explorer as my browser. It is so frustrating using Mozilla because it gets stuck when opening windows which require pulling up certain types of texts or applications, then I have to wait forever, or, reboot, and once in a while it gets so stuck that I have to take out battery and remove all power sources then start from scratch, and set my computer back to all settings previous to failure. Like I said, this only happens with Mozilla, all other browsers work perfectly well, but I love my Mozilla and it is my preferred browser. Please help. Thanks so much,

Hi Susan,
The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").

Youtube freezes or hangs firefox but works great in Internet Explorer

Every time pull up youtube in Firefox it immediately freezes or hangs the entire browser. the only thing I can do is close down Firefox via the task manager. This happens every single time. It used to work fine. I've even disable accelerate video. Nothing seems to work. The only time it kind of works is when I uninstall and reinstall firefox and/or flash player. Then the very first time I pull up youtube it will work great but when I close down the browser then reopen it and go to youtube, I have the same exact problem as before.
Firefox will pull up youtube with no problem when I uninstall the flashplayer (of course can't see videos then) but once it's installed youtube freezes.
Also Internet Explorer pulls up youtube videos great, just like Firefox used to do. Don't know what's wrong or what's happened but youtube immediately freezes or hangs Firefox when flashplayer is installed in firefox

Hey guys I think we've got a fix for this one. As most often the case the glitch is not with FF but with some plugin or incompatible piece of SW.
Troubleshoot: Uninstall FF, uninstall flashplayer, uninstall all brower toolbars add ons etc. (use Adobe Flash uninstaller if necessary (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html#main_Download_the_Adobe_Flash_Player_uninstaller)
Then reinstall most recent version of FF and then most recent of Flashplayer.
DO NOT add, enable, attach anything else at all. Just Bare FF and Only most recent flash player.
If you had Zone Alarm toolbar add on earlier and have uninstalled and not reinstalled it, FF is likely to pullup youtube videos with no problem.
Zone Alarm toolbar is incompatible with FF when flashplayer installed and pulling up a youtube page.
It's likely other toolbars may also be incompatible so just install the naked browser and then the Flashplayer. If it works you can begin reinstalling addons etc one by one.

Internet explorer freezes computers

I have 8 iMacs that are freezing when Internet Explorer is started. All are running 9.2.2. and All started this problem arund the same time. The computers are in a school and are in different rooms. 3 are eMacs. All have differing ammounts of Ram built in but until a couple of weeks ago were running just fine. Came back from Christmas Break and @*@!!
I have rebuilt the desktop, reset the PRAM, and changed the application memory. Some times I get an error type 1 , sometimes an error type 2 , sometimes it just quits. sometimes they freeze.
HELP , I have teachers who need these computers for their students.

Type 1 Errors are bus errors which are most often software bugs in the application that returns the error, insufficient memory assigned to an application, or an extension conflict.
Type 1, 2, and 3 errors are Mac OS memory-addressing errors.
Since it happens in an Application my guess is insufficient Memory, which might include lack of HD space for VM.

when i run an applet for more than one time, opening and closing, after a few times, my internet explorer freezes. What can be wrong? I do that because I recompile an applet.

ITunes Freezing Both Windows Explorer and Itself!

I understand that this has been happening a lot lately due to the new iTunes version (or rather, the newest version of Quicktime?). I'm a little afraid to reinstall iTunes now because as of recently, it's been freezing up my Windows Explorer and genuinely messing up my entire PC. I've had to do a factory reset to it twice in order for me to actually use my computer again...
So, I was wondering if there was actually a fix for this now. And if there isn't, are there any ways to avoid having my PC rendered useless?
