this isn't a very helpful answer and really devalues HP support. Can, or will you find out the information?
this is hugely important as we as end users cannot go buy an upgrade like Windows so if HP can't or won't provide timely updates to protect us then that should be clear before we invest in HP solutions.
From my perspective we were looking at buying ~500 units for a project because of the 'terminal' functionality commbined with Android, but we cannot risk investing in a technology that will not get security updates and support don't know.
Please can you find out the informtion?
When will KitKat (4.4.2+) and L be supported?

Hi,
The Eee Slate is really a great item. You can use as Tablet, Notebook or via HDMI as desktop computer with enough power.
Consequently there should be dual boot with Arch :). Most problems of this special device I solved already and if anybody is interested I could make a summary later on:
- Correct corrupt partition table. You won't be able to install any boot loader the way the item arrives.
- Make pen-drive Parted Magic
- Make pen-drive Arch
- Enable wireless on a very basic system (no LAN connector)
- Bluetooth
- Virtual Keyboard
But I have one problem I have no idea how to solve so far and I'm hoping for help from this great community:
When starting the computer I get the Grub menu, just the way it should be. But how to choose any item without always carrying a USB keyboard? The Eee Slate has a Bluetooth keyboard and the touchscreen (pen or finger). Both does not work on this very basic level.

It is getting less bad now:
Grub: The small volume up down knob works as arrow key at bios level. So it is actually possible to choose any GRUB entry, but you won't be able to edit without using an USB keyboard.
2 major obstacles left for using this model successfully with Arch:
1. Microsoft wireless keyboard 6000.
A Bluetooth keyboard which comes together with the Eee Slate. I simply found now way of using it with Arch so far. By doing a Bluetooth scan any other device is visible (mobile phone...) but not this keyboard. Anyway it works under Windows 7 and shows up when scanning.
2. I managed to make KVKBD (virtual keyboard) to start together with KBD. Pride and happiness vanished quickly when I had to find that I can not type username and password with this keyboard anyway. It is like having 2 separate program windows: Once I change to kvkbd the kbd window is inactive. Actually kvkbd should work as a keyboard for kbd.
After login kvkbd works normally and you can use a pen.
Next would be a good manager for Intel graphics similar to the NVIDIA settings manager for managing the HDMI output with a second monitor. Then Wacom gestures for zoom and turn...

Click to open FCE-HD but as opening slate pops up and begins loading it suddenly disappears without loading. Happens whether I click on previous project or the FCE-HD Icon in dock. What's wrong?

I was just resetting the FCE-HD, but didn't finish when it shut down. I tried to reopen several times using Icon in the Dock, but no luck. The Opening Slate came up as though it was loading, but within 5 seconds it shuts down w/out loading. I then chose to try opening a couple of different stored projects, but get the same results. What happened and how can I access Final Cut Express to complete resetting it and begin a new or open an established project?

You can try a re-install.

to completely remove FCE then try the re-install.
You do have the DVD and serial number available for the re-install?
Sometimes a conflicting program or plug-in for FCE can be the cause.
Do you have any non Apple apps or plug-ins on your Mac?

Here at HP we do not have information on third party software or hardware. It would be best for you to simply Google search for an app or adapter that is Android compatibly that will do what you want it to do.

Slate 21 Pro ongoing sleep problems that can't be resolved

I just bought a slate 21 pro after hearing about sleep related issues, but was encouraged by various reports of solutions in the form of a replacement unit with upgraded scalar firmware, not using keyboard/mouse, not connecting an hdmi in device and/or using a bluetooth keyboard.
I'm sad to say that none of those things reliably resolves the problem of the unit going to sleep and requiring a power cord pull to get it back.
My unit was replaced by HP with a scalar 3.7 unit, I've tried it with and without a keyboard, with and without a bluetooth keyboard, with and without an external pc plugged into the hdmi, with and without the 4.3 security update etc. Both the original and the replacement still have sleep issues.
HP stopped responding to my case updates after the original replacement, but they were right on top of me when I was one day late returning the original product...with the hilarious suggestion that they'd charge me nearly $600 if I didn't promptly return it.
I'm going to try calling in when I have a chance tomorrow, hoping to get a real person that might actually look into this. I'm also hoping it doesn't turn into a constant return carousel where they keep sending me the same device with the same defect. I've had this problem on rare occasion with other android devices and it generally gets resolved with a firmware fix.
In the meanwhile, for any other prospective purchasers...you'll either have to leave the unit in 'daydream' mode where its on (and the screen) all the time to the tune of 26 watts and likely shortened screen life. None of the supposed 'fixes' seem to fix it for me. Abandon hope, all ye who enter here.
I'll update if anything gets better. If there are any HP folks who want to chime in here that'd be great. Seems they've stopped responding on the other threads

Why does Firefox no longer work with Slate or AIM?

1. On Slate.com I allow all scripts to run; however, even though most links on the pages work, I can no longer view comments in articles -- the function to open the comments simply does not work.
2. When I load the standalone desktop AIM program, until Firefox 37 I was able to click the mail icon and go directly to my AOL mail; this no longer works, but instead logs me out of AOL and I have to log in again.
I don't know if these are related, but both appeared when I allowed an upgrade to version 37.

Slate 500 Broken glass

Hi, I have a HP Slate 500, this fall and broken the screen, not the LCD, just the glass, now the touch don't work anymore and had glass is broken at middle of screen.
I need to replace this part, but HP don't give me support.
Where I can buy this part? Can HP give me this part number, may be I can have some success with this.
I live in Brazil, here HP don't give me support for this hardware. Every time than I try support, you say me to call U.S. support.
Can you please tell me how to solve? I have a friend than live in U.S. if I buy the part, I can send to U.S. address, so, he can send me.

HP Slate 5000 and SP1

Could not load SP1 on my HP Slate 500 with Windows 8. I talked to support and they recommended a manual load instead of using Windows Update on the Microsoft site. The manual load worked. Reference support case[Personal Information Removed]?

I've taken the TP-Link device out of the loop now, and connected directly via USB. I'm still experiencing the same issue - can scan from within the software, but the buttons don't do anything.
It seems to be something to do with the 'HP Scan Dispatch 3' that in the registry is set to use:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Hewlett-Packard\Scanjet\5000 (L2715A)\hpScanDispatch3.exe Scan# /StiDevice:%1 /StiEvent:%2;
I don't know what the parameters are supposed to be, but this program simply isn't launching. The other option available under 'Events' from 'Devices & Printers', does start the Scan Utility program, but this isn't the behaviour I'm after - it should perform the scan and save the pdf in the destination without any user intervention.
Any help gratefully received, hopefully whilst I still have some hair left...

Slate 500 Windows install problem

I format my HP Slate 500 64 GB SSD. Now i select Disk 0 Partition 2 ( 59.2 GB free space. Primary) but is not start and this message in the screen " setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information" How can i install windows 7 on my slate 500 tablet ? Please help me.

Did you ever find an answer to your issue? I ordered an HP slate 500 dirt cheap, and will be playing around with this device if you still need help, but unsure if I will run into this problem. I will be attemtping to install Windows 7 Enterprise and Ulitmate editions to the tablet to see if they will work with HP drivers. Basicly want more security, and test manageability from Server 2008.
My guess is that you need to do a clean, custom install of Windows 7. This will require deleting and formatting the HD for all Partitions and installing the HD driver. Have you already created other partitions because I find it odd that your using Partition 2 default, unless your dual booting the device. Especially after formatting the HD, it should really have no information, and I advice against Dual booting with a 64GB HD. Windows 7 really needs 40GB alone for the OS. I suggest Ubuntu loaded from USB to wipe the HD and then W7 USB boot to format and install OS.
I also heard that HP added some type of password feature on the HD so installing a new HD is more of a hassle, and could be related to this, but I know nothing on this yet, but what I read. Still reading up on the Slate, but when I get it in my hands next week I can actually work directly with you on the issue. Also if it works like I want I can create you a VDI to load on a USB which will install my custom setting W7OS.

Slate 500

My hp slate 500 tablet turns off if it is remove from it's docking station. This occurred only after I reinstalled the windows 7 operating system and drivers from the recovery disks that came with the unit when I purchased it. I had previously installed the windows 8 preview on the system but I did not like the performance so I loaded the recovery disks. When it was running windows 8, I could remove the slate from the docking stationing and it stayed on with no problem so I do not believe that it is a battery problem. It is only after I switched it back to windows 7 using the supplied recovery disks. The slate works fine as long as it is docked but turns off immediately when it is picked up from the docking station. Am i missing a driver? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

When I was experminenting with this, I had some success by installing the Slate 500 drivers from HP.com.
To get your multi-touch gestures working, you'll need the touchscreen driver which can be found at the above link. Keep in mind that it is a Preview edition of Windows, so many things will not work as well as they do in Windows 7.

HP slate 21 - no SkyGo in full screen after 4.4.2 update

Hi there,
I updated my HP slate 21 (non pro) to Android 4.4.2 this morning but it has unfortunately resulted in SkyGo not displaying correctly - only the centre 3rd of the screen is displayed (the rest being 'chopped off'). I've tried disabling the new HP split screen app, but this doesn't make any difference. Anybody else having similar problems? Is this one for Sky or HP to take a look at?

Hi there, definately a Sky problem, spent an hour on phone to HP today with exactly the same problem, however, when i told them that the Dual view doesn't seem to be an app as it seems to be embedded and a beta, they are not aware of this being released and will be getting back to me. In regards to Sky go, send them an email explaining the situation (address at the bottom of the Sky Go app page on google play then copy and paste into your email provider), the more that send the quicker it will be acted upon. Hope this helps.

HP Slate 21 Pro Kitkat 4.4.2 update issues

Nice they've finally updated us to Kitkat now everyone else is being updated to Lollipop.
Bugs now introduced with KK
1. Physical keyboard numlock. In JB it remembered I always had it on. Now it always boots up off. Change it to remember or give a settings option to start it 'on'
2. Location - I switch it off, some app/system app keeps switching it on. Never did this under JB. Fix it
3. Removing apps via 'system/app' - once the toast appears saying it's uninstalled an app, the app stays in the list and the list doesn't respond to clicks. You have to click on 'system/users' for example and then back into 'system/app' to remove the next app. Please fix this glaring BUG.

HP Slate 7 Voice Tab overheat after kitkat update

Hi,
I was using my Slate 7 voide tab for last around 8 months without any major issue. Minor issues like touch becomes very sluggish after switching on 3G was normal.
Yesterday kitkat update got installed on my tab and than nightmare starts. First "clean master" app is showing alert periodically that CPU is overheating (80 degree celsius). Today tab got hanged while some important call was coming. I was able to see people calling but touch was not responding. Tried to hard boot, but again some process error came on screen and whole tab was in hanged state for an hour. I can only see people calling and calling.
When battery got drained, I restarted it but CPU temperature is always above 80 degree celsius and I believe its obviously much above normal. I never got these problems with Jelly Beans.
Its really very frustrating to know why HP released an update which is full of bugs!!!

I understand you're experiencing issues with heat after updating to KitKat on your Slate 7 VoiceTab.
Before troubleshooting any heat issue, remove the tablet from the case if you are using one. Test the tablet without the case and see if the issue persists.
You can also try apps like Android Task Manager that will sweep running processes and boost memory to reduce load on your tablet.
Regarding the touchscreen:
Clear all cache on the tablet: Settings > Storage > Cached Data. You should have the option to erase all the cached data here.
Hard reset: While the tablet is on, press and hold the power button for 8+ seconds to force shut down. Turn the tablet back on and see if that helps.
Factory reset: Make sure you backup any important files or information first. Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset.

Hp slate 7 voice tab android version update

I just want to know if i update my tab's android version from jelly bean to kitkat then it will safe.<br>I mean can i update my tab to kitkat without any problem.<br>

I did it yesterday, and my Slate 7 VoiceTab is absolutely unstable. 2 days ago the device was fully functional and now it's a piece of garbage. The system is unstable, resets itself, the connection via SIM is fading away, a lot of ASSERTs messages pop up, services randomly stop.
And the worst thing is that after the update I can't revert KitKat back to JellyBean because of differences in boot loader.
So, tommorow I'm going to call local HP office trying to replace this otherwise favourite device with another one.

This fix will resolve audio issues of a software nature resulting in the KitKat update. If your issue persists after applying the specific update mentioned in this thread and have done a factory reset, the issue is likely hardware related and not the result of the KitKat update.
