HP Smart Web Printing / IE8 / Windows Vista: Cannot get icon to appear!

I've installed HP Smart Web Printing 4.5.1 in IE8 running under Vista SP2.  I cannot get the icon to appear.  Under Tools/Manage Add-ons, "Show or Hide HP Smart Web Printing" is reported as "enabled".  When I select "Show or hide HP Smart Web Printing" under the double arrows at the far right of the tool bar, nothing happens.  I see others have had some success at getting through this, but nothing seems to be working for me.  I've tried removing and re-installing the utility to no avail.  What do I have to do?

Hey HP ...  Does anyone from HP monitor these posts and provide answers, as one might expect?  Is anyone listening?  Is anyone there?  Does anyone CARE?

  • Upgrade to Smart Web Printing 4.6 crashed IE8 x86

Win 7 Home Premium x64 computer paired with an HP Officejet Pro 8000. Initial install of printer required I uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 4 and reinstall after the printer was installed to resolve Windows error messages. Win 7 is a clean install from Win Vista.
Smart Web Printing 4.5.1 (from the HP CD) works well, albeit a bit slow.  The upgrade to 4.6 was unsucessful and crashed the IE8 x86 window.  I uninstalled it and retured to version 4.5.1 and it again works well.  Smart Web Printing apparently is not intended for use with the IE8 x64bit version and I have never seen it in the toolbar as an option.

I guess I posted too soon. I went to go to the control panel and a window popped up that needed attention. I guess the install of SWP was not finished and after clicking to continue and rebooting (again) SWP looks like it is working again.

I have installed Windows Vista 64-bit on a new computer (HP of course) and want to be able to use HP's "Smart Web Printing" software.  I have used it quite a bit on a Windows XP machine and love it.  Looking at the download page, it appears that the Smart Web Printing software is not compatible with Vista 64-bit.  Is this correct?  Will a new version be coming out that will be compatible?
Have you tried installing it anyways and see what happens?

  • HP Smart Web Printing Window is Empty

I just installed Version 4.6 under IE8 (under Windows 7 64-bit).  When I show the HP Smart Web Printing Window, it is empty with a white background (i.e. there is no selection tool).  I checked IE's add-ons and everything you would expect to be enabled is enabled:

Per HP Support's recommendation, I unistalled and re-installed Smart Web printing and that resolved the problem.

  • HP Smart Web Printing and IE8

Hi, I am trying to help some friends who have recently bought a new HP desktop and HP printer.
We have set up both and can print from programs installed, thats no problem. When we try to print a page from IE8 nothing at all happens. We have the HP Smart Web Printing software installed, but there is no icon on the tool bar, and it does not seem to be off the side of the screen. We have tried downloading and installing the Smart Web printing software again, but still it fails to work.
We have been on the internet looking for solutions including making sure that the box it ticked in IE8 which allows 3rd part add ons. And also looked in add on manager, but the Smart web add on does not appear on the list. In fact there are no add ons appearing?
I would be very grateful for any assistance.
    Cheers

In IE8 on the lowest toolbar, to the right hand side is a "tools" pull down. Click on it, then select "Explorer Bars", you should see one called "HP Smart Web Printing". If you do and it does not have a check by it, simply click on that option. An SWP toolbar should appear. If you do not have thswp line I would suspect an installation problem.

  • Is HP Smart Web Printing compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and Internet Explorer 8 and 9?

Is HP Smart Web Printing compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit and Internet Explorer 8 and 9?

HP Smart Web Printing has been replaced with HP Smart Printing.  It does support Windows 7 and IE 6 to IE9.  See this page for information.

    Hi,
Finally I've figured out a way to solve this. I typed msconfig in "run", and unchecked all the HP, Smartweb printing and windows installer items in the services and startup tabs. I don't have the problem anymore.
But thank you very much for your help!

  • Smart Web Printing & blank print preview window but prints anyway

I can successfully print using Smart Web Printing on my W7 laptop.  My Deskjet F380 is set up to always display a print preview before printing but when I use Smart Web Printing the print preview is always blank but it still prints correctly.  I have no problems with the print preview from IE8.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?

  • HP Smart Web Printing installed but no symbol in browser

I just downloaded HP Smart Web Printing and it apparently installed itself (if I try installing it again I am told that it is already installed). When I try to use it I cannot find any appropriate symbol anywhere on the browser.

OK, I found out where the mysterious icon is hidden, thanks to a response given to Bonnie on January 19th 2010.
In my case (IE8 German), I found that it is necessary to click the >> button at the end of the tool bar and that reveals additional icons, one of which is labeled "HP Smart Web Printing":

  • " HP Smart Web Printing" not working

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit , IE8, Photosmart C4500 all in one driver software 12.0, Solution Center 13.0, and Smart Web Printing 4.60. I was able to bring up the HPSWP window, but couldn't select the " Select". I finally found this to work.
    Open" IE"
    Click on "Tools"
    Click on" Manage Add-ons"
Make sure "Show or hide HPSWP" is enabled &" HPSWP" is enabled
    Close "Manage Add-ons"
    If HPSWP icon doesn't show
    Click on "Tools"
    Click on "Explorer Bars"
    Click on HPSWP
    Your now in business

hpswp is enabled in addons, everything is right, i click on tools and I can click show or hide hpswp, immediately  IE 8 gives a message that " a problem caused the program to stop working correctly".
When is was using hpswp with vista I had similiar problems also. I am now using Windows 7 with IE8.
Would anyone have been expericing the same problem?? Has anyone got a solution???

  • EDIT button doesn't work in smart web printing.

My edit button doesn't work at all in smart web printing.  I can clip & print okay but I can't edit my clips at all.  I have vista & ie8.  When I click edit, everything grays out in the smart web window & ie8 stops working. I have to recover my tabs but smart web is still grayed out. I have updated to the newest smart web numerous times but keep having the same problem, Please help!!!!

Reinstalling iPhoto would be the way to go. Hit F4 on the keyboard, hold your mouse on the iPhoto icon until it starts jiggling, then click the black cross that appears in the top right of it. Then, head to the Mac App Store (click the Apple in the very top left, it's the 4th one down) and then reinstall iPhoto. Deleting the iPhoto app shouldn't delete your iPhoto Library, but if you're worried, you can always make a backup... Time Machine will do it, otherwise - manual!
Go to Finder. Then in the menu bar along the top, click Go, then Home, then Pictures. In the pictures folder, you'll find the photo library file. Copy it to your desktop or an external disk.
    Hope this helps

hi there,my hp deskjet d1660 works ok,but i have a problem.when i find a particular paragraph on a web page i click on select,Then drag the mouse to the picture,or paragraph. Then click clip,or print. The print box comes up,and i click print. The printer just puts out a blank paper. It worked fine the first 3,or4 times then every time i try to print a paragraph by going through the proper steps as obove the same result. The printer does not copy what i am trying to print. So I have to keep printing out the full amount of pages to print what i want.THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE INK IS VERY EXSPENSIVE!!!!  Why does my printer work the old way,but KEEPS GIVING ME A BLANK PAPER WHEN I USE THE "HP SMART WEB PRINTING??"Like I said my printer does work properly, but it won,t print when I click select, and drag my mouse then click "clip",and hit print. It just spits me out a blank paper. What can i do to fix this???Sincerely,Weatherwizard

When you say the screen always appears, are you wanting the HP Smart Print to minimize so that you can't see it, do you want it only to appear on one tab and not all of them, or are you wanting to get rid of HP Smart Print all together?
I'll do my best to help you but I do not have Internet Explorer 8.  Also, what kind of computer are you using (ex. Windows 7, Windows XP, etc)? I hope I can help but I can not install IE8 right now since I am working with Smart Print and how it does not work at all on IE10.  I'm more than happy to help if I can.
Don't forgot to say thanks by giving "Kudos" if I helped solve your problem.

  • HP Smart Web Printing 4.6 Error Message

I am running Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, and IE9.  I have downloaded and installed HP Smart Web Printing, Version 4.6, but it will not work.  The popup error message I get reads: "HP Smart Web Printing must be updated to run on this browser.  Would you like to check http://www.hp.com/go/swp/4_6_0_0/IE9/eng for a newer version?  When I click on Yes, the webpage displays a message that the webpage cannot be found: "Sorry, we can't find that page."
Anybody know how to fix whatever is causing V4.6 not to run?

  • HP Smart Web Printing Breaks Firefox

HP Smart Web Printing Breaks Firefox Navigation bar.
    OS: Windows 7
    Browser: FireFox 3.5.6
Application: HP Smart Web Print Version 4.6
After installing it basically broke the Firefox browser bar.
    Here is the FriendFeed Conversation

As far as I’m concerned this is by far the most intrusive and inconsiderate update HP has every released. Be where – if I had to guess I would say that HP is using EDS to do it’s update/releases. I only say this because as someone who worked for EDS for 14 years, I can tell you they are used to telling their end user what they must have how they are going to get it instead of the other way around. This is one of the main reasons I left EDS in 1999. So do not trust HP anymore. Always make a restore point before you apply any updates and only apply update when they apply to you and the way you use your computer. I for one am going to turn off HP update notices because I don't even want to know about an update unless I have some problem I need to solve.
    System Info:
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32 bit (all current updates applied as of 01/15/2009).
    Browser: Firefox 3.5.7
    Problem Area: Firefox Add-ons
    Problem and Solution:
Hp Update notified me an update for HP Smart Web Printing to version 4.60 is available. Because I like to keep my computer software up to date I clicked install, what a mistake. The first thing I noticed is that the Norton Toolbar 4.0 was missing in Firefox 3.5.7. Turned out it was BROKE and/or disables although Firefox showed it as being present and enabled it was not, along with other Add-ons for Firefox.
    Things I tried:
    1)      Exit and restarted FF (no effect)
    2)      Disable HP Smart Web Printing and Restarted Firefox (Norton Toolbar reappeared but still was not working along with other Add-ons.
    Final Solution:
    1)      Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing (I check delete/no to save anything)
    2)      Ran System Restore and restored to the latest System Check Point which was before the 4.60 update was applied because Windows was prevented from or just didn't create an automatic restore point in order to undo the update.
    3)      Uninstall HP Smart Web Printing again and again I didn't save anything (Why? I have no idea but it appeared that even though the previous version of HP Smart Web Printing should be installed it seems that the 4.60 updates are applied to it so it’s the only way I could get Firefox and the other Add-ons working right) Norton Safe Web still doesn't work right and is a 100% dysfunctional.
    NOTE:
All Firefox Add-ons seems to be working except Norton Safe Web function. The green tick mark no longer show up so you have no way of know if the site is Safe or not until you click on a link in Google search so Safe Web will check it which as far as I'm concerned diminishes the protection/function 100%. The only solution may be to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it, which at this time I've not done because I am still trying to find a way around it.
