HP Solution Center requires flash.ocx

I've installed the software for my C8180 on Windows Vista. This is a clean install. I've deleted any previous install folders and registry entries. I've installed the latest version of flash player, but I still get an error that Solution Center is looking for flash.ocx. When I start Solution Center, nothing happens. If I open the processes tab of Task Manager, it shows the exe is running. If I stop the process, I get the error that it can't find flash.ocx. Is there a way to get Solution Center installed? I've tried both the original cd and the download from HP. I appreciate your help.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Ed57gmc
I would suggest trying the solution from a Microsoft Support Engineer in this thread I have found below, when researching the error you're seeing.
Check out the second post (the Answer), and give it a shot. It resolved the issue before and hopefully it will fix yours too!
Tried to open the HP Solution Center- I get an error message "This program requires flash.ocx, which...

  • Problem Flash Player bei IE 11 mit HP Solution Center+Datei Flash.ocx

    Hallo
    activex.vch
    Flash64_15_0_0_189.ocx
    FlashInstall.log
    FlashUtil64_15_0_0_189_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil64_15_0_0_189_ActiveX.exe
    FlashUtil64_15_0_0_189_Plugin.exe
    NPSWF64_15_0_0_189.dll
    plugin.vch

  • HP Solution Center error "flash9b.ocx failed to register"

I have a similar Flash9b.ocx faied to register problem that I have been trying to solve for several weeks. It started after I upgraded to the latest Flash Player 10.3.183.7 via the official Adobe website. After this upgrade on start up I got the following HP Solution Centre (printer software) error message:
C:\Windows:\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx failed to register. HRESULT-2147220473. Contact your support personnel.
Further investigation confirmed that Flash Player had stopped working and where the image should be there was a blank black box. I tried reinstalling the latest version of Flash Player again but it made no difference. I was prompted to insert the original Solution Centre disk to solve the problem and although I tried this, it had no effect. I uninstalled Solution Centre including manually deleting any HP files that had been left behind and did a complete reinstall of the latest version including relevant patches from the HP website. This appears to have solved the problem as far as the Solution Centre error messages are concerned. However, on further investigation I found the Flash9b.ocx file mentioned above no longer exists but Flash Player still isn’t working.
I am running Vista (32bit) with all the current upgrades and Internet Explorer version 9.0.8112.16421 update version 9.0.2 (KB2559049)
    Thanks for your help

After more than two weeks of trying, I finally found a solution to my HP Solution Centre Flash Player 10 conflict. Below is what worked for me and if you have a similar problem I hope this posting is of some use. uninstall Solution Centre & reinstall the latest version plus all the relevant patches from the HP website. Reset browser settings which in my case was IE 9 (Internet Options, Advanced tab, Reset) followed by a restart. Then uninstall Flash Player (Control Panel, Programs & Features, Uninstall) followed by another restart. Finally go to Adobe website and download the latest version of Flash Player.
    Hope this helps

Your going to need to "scrubber" the software to remove everything. After running the scrubber your going to need
to reinstall the software. Heres the steps to run the scrubber:
Method 1: From Original installation CD:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer
    2. Open My Computer, and then right click on the CD drive and chose open
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools

    10. Run the download to reinstall the printer
Method 2: If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
    1. Type %temp% in the run field
    2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. If you have an HP computer run the L3uninstall.exe. If you have a non-HP computer run the L4uninstall.exe

Ok, I am at my wit's end with this. I installed Yahoo messenger 10 after messenger 9 refused to work for me anymore (even after a fresh installation). But after a clean installation of yahoo messenger 10, i'm constantly getting the compatibility error "This program requires flash.ocx, which is no longer included in this version of windows". The yahoo website keeps coming up with responses such as "reinstall flash".
Due to various other issues with this version of flash player, I nearly have to uninstall (using the adobe uninstaller, mind you) and reinstall flash at least once a month, even if I don't need to upgrade.
I really am lost as to what to do now. I have tried uninstalling Y10 and reinstalling it, but the exact thing happens.
    What am i missing

I have Vista64 and had a similar problem when using the student version  of Pro Engineer.  I've made all the effort I'm going to put into the problem and from now  on will just put up with the error messages since I'm getting basic functionality.    An option I might persue someday is to find out whether Pro Eng uses  the 32 bit or 64 bit IExplor software and if I can choose which.  Another thing I might do is to run older operating systems inside of emulators (Virtual Box works really well).   I am  also wondering if Adobe is still interested in developing a 64 bit  version of its players and whether that could solve the problem  eventually?  Of course its not fair for them to have to develop two versions but it would be nice. For me, the solution can wait.  Hope this info is useful  to somebody, and thanks for this forum!
The Pro Engineer seems to run just fine, and I think the error only occurs because Pro Engineer runs an Internet Explorer window under a tab sometimes.  Pro Engineer comes in 32-bit or 64-bit and I have the 64 bit.  I already had Flash 10 installed in IE and that worked fine outside of the program, however there is no flash support for the 64-bit version of IE.  That is probably why windows Vista says I need flash.ocx ; and that is a guess.
A blind guess I made attempting to fix the problem:
First, I have not tried registering shortcuts or renamed ocx files, because I  don't want to cause a problem with my (already working) flash players in  my mozilla and IE 32.  The whole system of Active X controls is too big  and mysterious for me to deal with, and I can wait for the  compatibility problems to just go away.  Hopefully we all can.  As  someone who has a 64bit laptop, I hope all of the 32bit 64bit windows  issues get settled soon.  For the most part they have already been  addressed.
After the error occurred I looked up info about flash.ocx including this forum (which I appreciate!)  I then closed the Pro Engineer program and went to c:\Windows\SysWoW64\Macromed\Flash and found a file called "Flash10h.ocx"    I created a shortcut to this file on the desktop, renamed it to 'flash.ocx' and copied the shortcut directly into the SysWow64 folder and also into the executables folder for proengineer.  When I ran Pro Engineer again and opened the browser I still got the same error messages, so nobody do that as its not just a matter of a missing file.  Its a missing Active X  component problem, which is a bit more complicated.

  • Another "Flash.ocx missing" VISTA 64-Bit syswow64

The exact error message is: This program requires flash.ocx, which is no longer included in this version of windows.
I know this has been answered numerous times, but, and I stress, BUT, not for users running 64 Bit.  The copy, paste and rename to flash.ocx does not work the same as 32 Bit, for reasons I and apparently know one else can gather.  I have paged over page of Google with excitement from 32 Bit users that were able to copy, paste, rename flash, and they were good to go. Yet everything I read about 64 Bit, either goes unanswered, or just when I think were getting somewhere the post abruptly ends.
I only have one program that reports this message, and it is only when I close out of it, that it then reports it.  Thankfully, I still seem to have 100% functionality from the app, but that still is not good enough for me, since I like to fix things!
The app is MetaBrowser Beta 09.02.09, the free version that they offer no more support for, which hence is why Flash has not been updated, and will not be updated to look for new Flash names (Ex: Flash10m.ocx). I use this app almost daily, and this error did not reveal itself until I updated to the latest version of Flash a few days ago.  I should also note I have been updating Flash regularly as I do all my apps that ask.  So this wasn't like I updated Flash from version 5, 6, 7 or even 8, 9.
Should I be able to just copy, rename my current Flash10m.ocx to flash.ocx in my syswow64\Macromed\Flash folder and it work like all the 32 bit users claim it does?  Should note also, I tried registering flash.ocx (regsvr32 flash.ocx) after the rename, and that did not help.
I have uninstalled using the Adobe uninstall flash player, cleaned registry, rebooted, and reinstalled.
Flash Player reports I'm running the latest version, and Flash Player works great.
I know my version of MetaBrowser is at fault here, but with no more support, what can I do to make it or help it find the flash.ocx that it is looking for?
I thought of using an older version, but from Adobes archives, its says the earlier versions are meant for developers only, I assume that’s why the file sizes are on the larger size, plus the issue of security vulnerabilities using out-dated versions concerns me.
    Thanks
    Mike

Hi, As you say this Flash.ocx is for an older version of Flash Player. Many changes have been made since then. I know of no way to copy & paste anything into the Flash files. The Windows Registry is involved in Uninstalling and Installing any Version of Flash Player.
I think your choice is to either Uninstall your current FP and Install the older version needed for this application/program if that is required to use it.
Keep in mind that if you do that, you not only lose all Security features that you've noted, but other websites may not work either. Most all websites update each time Flash Player is updated.
Someone else may have more info to add to this, but that's all I know about your situation.
Other than that, I'd look for another application/program that you can use that would accomplish what Metabrowser does.

So you are invoking Flash Player in your own apps - where did you find the instructions how to do so?  You are obviously not using the correct instructions, as your apps are looking for an old version of Flash Player (Flash.ocx).

  • Adobe Flash Player / HP Solution Center Problems!

    Hello
Last night everything was working fine. Until I installed the latest Flash Player 10.1.53.64 RC7. Upon reboot my HP Solution Center was corrupted triggered a pop up error and tried to get me to reinstall it. I did a restore back to earlier in the day and proved it was Adobe Flash Player. My HP Solution Center then worked great. Tried installing the latest Adobe Flash Player again and same problem. So I did another restore and everything is working great still. What conflict or what could be causing this bug in Adobe Flash Player 10.1.53.64 RC7 and HP Solution Center? Are you working on this and will there be a patch soon? Are you aware of this conflict?

  • Solution center suddenly ask for enabling Adobe Flash player for internet explorer for scanning

Solution center suddenly ask for enabling Adobe Flash player for internet explorer for scanning. However, flash player is installed and enabled, but HP Solution center keeps asking for enabling and doesn't let me scan.
    Any suggestion?

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @yuvalyanai
I read about the issue you are having with scanning, as you are seeing a message to enable Adobe Flash player.
To begin, I would like to know some more information:
Which operating system you are running and which printer you are working with?
How Do I Find My Model Number?
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
    Can you make copies successfully?
Can you print from your computer?
Have you tried updated Adobe Flash player?
Can you scan successfully from Microsoft Paint?
How is your printer connected to your PC, wireless, ethernet or USB?
In the meantime, try resetting the printer:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
I hope to hear from you, have a wonderful weekend

  • Adobe Flash security exposure in HP Solution Center Digital Imaging code

I have an HP Officejet 4500 with the HP Solution Center installed.
    Windows XP.
My security software identifies "Adobe Flash Player Multiple Vulnerabilities" embedded in the HP Digital Imaging product.
    The versions and locations are:
    Adobe Flash 10.0 r2
    C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\{7E0E61CC-1C99-429D-BEA7-C4DD5B898D2A}\setup\hwsetupwizard\setup_guide.exe
    Adobe Flash 9.0 r115
    C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Help\player\FlashPla.exe
Apparently the Digital Imaging products uses these for help and setup functions. They were likely installed initially but I can't find any way to update them. I have tried all update functions available for the Solution Center.

How do I get these Flash product versions updated? I am assuming if I delete the files the help and setup functions won't work.
    Thanks

Alright, well.Ltaff, first of all, to let you know Solution Center does not need a different version of Adobe Flash Player. AFP is merely a conduit that puts together the coding for Solution Center so that it can function, and if AFP is not up to date then it can cause problems.
If you have the most recent version, then those security issues have already been resolved through subsequent releases. Now, what it sounds like is that your security software is falsely detecting issues in the program or AFP was not correctly configured.
As a starting step, why don't we uninstall both the printer and Flash Player and reinstall them.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it. Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.
Then follow this link to download the full feature software and drivers for the printer. You will need to search for the correct model number of the 4500 you have (either G510a/g/n or G509a/g/n):
    www.hp.com/go/support
Then uninstall AFP from Programs and Features and install it from the download :
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/?fpchrome
Install that and let me know the result!
    Have a great day!

  • HP Solution Center conflict with Adobe Flash Player

I have an HP Deskjet F2210 Printer and when I installed the most recent upgrade of Adobe Flashplayer the hp solution center would not open. I uninstalled the flash player and hp solution center. I then reinstalled the solution center and it runs fine. I installed the flash player again with same results. Is there a fix for this conflict?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

As the Flash Player has been installed or upgraded later then the HP Solution Center, it may ause this conflicting.
    Please try the following Steps:
    1. Insert your printer installation disk and cancel any installation if it will automaticaly begin.
    2. Enter My Computer, right-click your CD Driver and then click browse.
    3. Enter the Setup folder.
    4. Enter the SolutionCenter folder underneath and locate the SolutionCenter.msi file (will have different icon then any other on that folder).
    5. Right click the file, then click Repair.
Accept any alert during that installation and reboot your PC when done.
Now check if the Solution Center may be launched again.
If you have installed it from the web, run the downloaded installation package to extract its content, then close any opened window.
click Start > Run, type %temp% and accept.
locate a the latest folder starting with 7Z (you may have several, simply locate the latest one by checking the Change date)... it will contain the HP installation folder.
    Then continue from step3 above.

  • Adobe Flash Player w/HP Solutions Center

Used HP Solutions Center yesterday for scanning & worked fine.  This morning it says I don't have the correct version.  Verified it is Enabled and ActiveX is disabled.  Tried installing update and said I have current version.  What's next?  Need my scanner!!

Have you checked HP for updates?
Usually this occurs because the software is looking for a single digit Flash Player version, and it misreads anything higher than 9 as a "1". An update of the HP Soultion Center should resolve it.

  • Firefox freezes when going to a site or page that requires Flash Player, such as YouTube. I have the most updated version of Flash. Is there a solution to this problem?

I'm having trouble visiting sites or pages that require Flash Player, Firefox will just freeze when they're partially loaded and it will stay frozen until I close Firefox. This will happen with any page that uses flash player. I can disable it, but then I can't access the content which requires Flash Player, have to use a different browser and I'd rather just use Firefox.

    Hello,
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.''
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.
