HP Spectre x360 Battery Life/Screen Rotation/

I bought the HP Spectre x360 (Intel Core i5, 256 GB) and the battery life is just horrible. I use it for about 30 minutes and already 10% is gone. I read reviews on this and saw it would give 12.5 hours. I expected it to be about 9-10 hours but im only getting half of that. Also, after I upgraded to Windows 10, my screeens don't rotate when I'm in tablet mode. Help?

Ahmed and others, without doing too much digging, it appears that screen rotation in Windows 10, by default, can be enabled only in tablet mode. To get to tablet mode, open up the action centre, and the top left icon/button at the bottom of the screen is "Tablet mode". If it is a dark grey, then it is disabled. If you press it, it becomes a lighter grey and is enabled (you will also see a few different features in your taskbar). Once in tablet mode, you should be able to rotate the screen and Windows will correctly rotate the display for you. It does not seem to be as quick as it was in Windows 8.1. If it is not rotating, then try pressing the button labelled "Rotation lock" in the action centre. Hope that helps! On the battery side of things, I am getting decent hours out of my i7 model with the FHD screen. I can spend a day at work (school teacher) and come home with between 40 and 60% available. This would be after a good 5-6 hours of periodic use, sleeping in between, using the HP recommended power settings.

  • New 2011 Pro - poor battery life, screen flickering

Hello!  I recently purchased a new 2011 Macbook Pro 15" (8.2 in system profiler) and I'm having some issues with the graphics switching (I think).
I get an average of 3 hours battery unless both Chrome and Skype are closed (no other applications).
I tried installing gfxCardStatus to see which card was being used (integrated Intel or discrete ATI).  I found that having either of these applications open triggers the switch to discrete graphics and kills my battery.  I can use Safari instead, but I can't imagine that a browser would require the ATI card.  I can also understand Skype needing the ATI card for fullscreen video calling or something, but it runs just fine when I force it to use the Intel card, and it definitely shouldn't trigger the switch when just running in the background or messaging.
Finally, and possibly the most strange of all, I tried running the Mac version of WoW and found it to be incredibly stuttery with constant tearing while using discrete graphics, or while using auto switching, or even without gfxCardStatus and having the system power setting to allow switching unchecked (forcing discrete to be always on).  After a few minutes, I started to see flickering all over the screen (about an inch long, 1 pixel high lines all over the screen, vibrating back and forth).  I removed gfxCardStatus and rebooted and haven't seen the problem since then (only been a day).  But the strange part.. when I forced Intel graphics (no ATI card) WoW ran perfectly smooth, even on moderate/high settings..
I'm baffled.  In the end, this is a work computer that I use for web development, but the specs are definitely enough to play most games anyway.  My main concerns right now though are battery life and the possibility of a faulty card (the flickering).
Thanks in advance for any input!

  • HP Spectre x360 battery stuck at 100%

I just got the HP Spectre x360 from the MS Store (signature edition). In addition to the noisy tapping on the touchpad, here's the problem I noticed right away: The Windows battery indicator is stuck at 100% for about an hour (after disconnecting from AC), and then immediately drops to something like 92%. From then on, the discharge appears to be normal. I tried following the advice here: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Other-Notebook-PC-Questions/Battery-Indicator-shows-100-charged-at-all-times/td-p/1303467 -- did not help. Also, tried calibrating the battery via the diagnostics tool, but it passes the check and the option to calibrate is never offered. If needed, I can attach the battery info displayed after the check. Latest BIOS from HP. Note that this is a 2-day old purchase, which can be returned/exchanged. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Spectre x360 battery charging issues

The exact same thing happened to me. I received a new adapter and power cord from HP, as my Spectre is only 5 weeks old. The new power cord and adapter didn't work and now my laptop won't even turn on. I wish I could help, but I have no idea what to do to fix my own laptop since it won't turn on.

Ditto Ditto I would be the third in this thread with exactly the same symptoms but no-one seems to have a response. Here's confirmation of what happened: 4 Apr 2015 Purchase 360 from HP in the UK - worked fabulously 30 Jul 2015 Upgraded to Windows 10 8 Aug 2015 Since upgrade, very light occassional use, maybe not even powered in as on holiday in Greece since the 1st Aug however I needed to sat down to do some work and laptop just switched off after a few hours of continuous use even though it was plugged in.  No low battery warning or anything.   After that would not switch on but I did some diagnosing focussed around the charger itself and listening to the charger brick, it made an unusual fast ticking sound - rather than the usual sort of hum you get from a transformer, perhas a relay gone mad so I assumed that the charger had failed.  I called HP support from Greece and they agreed with my assessment and quickly dispatched a replacement charger to my home.  The laptop could not be used any further till I got home. 16-Aug-2015 Got home and found the replacement charger waiting for me (well done HP for delivering so quickly) and I plugged it in and lo and behold, the laptop started working again so I immediately assumed that my diagnosis was correct and the charger was at fault BUT i did not notice if the power light came on on the side nor did I check the power settings or icons - I simply got on with some urgent work.   After about an hours use, the laptop suddenly stopped again.  No warning, just gone dead and would not turn on again.  I thought, not a second faulty charger so I listened to the brick and this time, it hummed as normal - not a ticking sound.   Also the level of hum stepped up when plugged into the laptop compared and hum down when you unplug the charger from the laptop.  No indication of a loose connection with the laptop but the little white power light refuses to come on.   But if the hum is changing, when plugged in, surely the laptop is still drawing power in its dead state causing the hum note to change (as you would expect).   But still it refuses to come back to life, even leaving it for a while.  I then had a thought and pulled out the old laptop charger and plugged it in - the laptop response remained the same - it would not turn on plus no white light.  I then listened to the brick - it hummed now as normal and comparably to the new charger - the ticking sound had gone. This leads me to conclude that perhaps there was nothing wrong with the charger originally - the ticking noise could be a red herring to do with the rather dubious Greek island electrics and wavering levels of AC current.  So maybe the problem is with the laptop itself and more interestingly with Windows 10 - the problems do start after its install as observed by the first poster above.   Did the Windows 10 upgrade do something to break the device drivers controlling the power so now the laptop does not know where it is.  Hence no warnings about power loss etc.?  Since I do not recall seeing anything in the systray about power ( I wish I checked and paid attention before beginning work), perhaps there is no power management but still the laptop is able to draw power to charge but does not know it has power to turn on?   Why did it turn on for an hour earlier today - it cant be a case of turning a device low on power on and off again as it would not last an hour or so?   Anyone got any other ideas?    I really need my laptop back as return to work tomorrow.

  • Screen Rotation not working

I have upgraded my laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  Since upgrading the Screen rotation function is no longer available or working.    When checking in the property  part the following message is displayed. no Pen or touch input available for this display?

    Hi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion x360 Notebook and Screen Rotation not working after an update to Windows 10. Here is a link to configure the touch display to identify your screen as a touch screen. The document is for Windows 8 but the procedure is the exact same troubleshooting.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system at the time of purchase or that need updating. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. Here is a document that shows how to update drivers that are not working correctly with Windows 10.I hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Spectre X360 Screen rotation

Hi, I recently bought spectre X360 with windows 10, but the screen rotation is not working in tent and tablet mode.I have been trying to get a solution for this in display settings but Lock rotation of this display is ON and disabled. Therefore I cant even change it. Please let me know how to enable screen rotation.

I bought this laptop about 3 weeks ago. When running windows 8.1 the screen did rotate into portrait mode when turned, but only when the laptop was in the tablet formfactor. As long as the keyboard was still on, it would only flip 180 and not got into portrait mode.  Now that i am on win 10 i have the same issue as the OP. I applied the registry setting and the screen does rotate, but it does it in laptop and tablet mode (i am speaking of the physical mode, not the win 10 tablet mode). I dont like that it does it in laptop mode, but its better than nothing. I would like to see an official fix that also ungreyed the option as well.

  • Spectre X360 i7 500gb poor battery life and noisy (?) constantly on fan

My brand new (out of the box this friday evening - now monday ) X360 Spectre seems to have a problem. I am not sure what to expect however within 10 minutes of turning it on the fan goes on and it doesn't go off again. I am just surfing within 10'feet of my N router and not streaming video or downloading big files. Two hours of this and the fan is still going like the clappers and the battery which was completely full now says 65pct...implying approx 6 hours of total life on very light useage. The fan also seems noisy to me and is annoying to the point of being a dealbreaker. The laptop is in normal mode using standard HP recommended power settings and has had no additional programmes loaded, and is sat on a wooden dining table.
Is this normal??? It seems extremely disappointing when HP's own website says up to 12.5 hours battery life - would this be when in airplane mode and not typing anything?
I would add that I am pretty gutted as apart from this the X360 is such a nice thing and great spec for the price, but if it cannot be solved its going back as it will drive me nuts.

    Yes I have.
Just web browsing and basically doing nothing I'm hear a lot of aduible fans, I'm getting 85C+ on GPU diode, 65+ on cpu heatsink.  I since installed anohter program that shows me not just the CPU heatsink but the cores and the cores are at 90C+.
Seems like a lot of heat for doing nothing.  Not only that but I have these problems with no external monitor while on battery power too.
I don't know what to do.  They already replaced the logic board.  Others seem to get advertised battery life out of Apple products and not have products that get **** near hot enough to burn you while just web browsing or watching a movie let alone advertised tasks like Photoshop and Final Cut Pro.

  • Spectre x360 screen doesn't rotate

Screen doesn't rotate when help in portrait or when put into tablet mode

    Hello,
HP Support seems not to car about its custommers, so i found a soltuion by myself,
the real settings of screen rotation are on the control panel, please try to find them there, there a box to check/tick, it says "rotate screen automatically" or something like this, once done, the button on the actions center will be able to click on, if you still didn't find it, let me know so I can give you direct location. i'm not on my spectre now.

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • Why "Home & Lock Screen" consume more than 20% battery life in iOS 8.3?

Hi, I also got the battery issue after upgrading to the iOS 8.3.
My battery will drop from 100% to 30% within 4 hour battery usage (you can find this is the data in the Settings->General->Battery Usage->Usage)
When I go to check the battery usage of each app, I see "Home & Lock Screen" use 23% battery within 24 hours.
I just dont understand what does "Home & Lock Screen" do basically, and why it consumed so much battery usage?
Anyone has idea or the similar situation?
    I'm using iPhone 5s

Hey guys, I believe it can let you extends your battery life significantly by doing the following.
(I did an experiment by myself in these days)
    1. Turn off the hands off
    2. Turn off the non-necessary background app refresh
    3. Turn off the Suggested Apps, both My Apps and App Store
    4. Set the location service for every app into "While Using" if you are able to
By doing the settings above, I can extends my battery life 15% and more.
    I am using iPhone5s and iOS8.3

  • A small symbol has come up on my i phone 4 left hand side of the battery. looks like a small padlock with an arrow going round it. i cannot seem to get rid of it? it was not there originally. i understand its the lock that stops the screen rotating.

A small symbol has come up to the left of the battery symbol. i have found out that this is the screen rotation lock. not sure hoe this has been turned on and i cant seem to turn it off. I read that there is a button above the volume control on the i pad which turns it off, but this does not work on the i phone4?

    Try this:
-double click the Home button: this will make the System Tray appear at the bottom of the screen.
-if you do not see the screen orientation lock button then flick to the right: once you see the screen orientation lock button, just tap it. That will change it back.
    I hope this helps!

  • Bug report: Calendar on iOS 5 Notification screen consumes constant CPU and decreases battery life

After upgrading an iPod Touch 3 and 4 to iOS 5 and customizing the notification screen to include the Calendar (synced to an Exchange account), the battery life of both devices seems significantly worse. Removing Calendar from Notifications returns things to normal. I suspect a CPU issue because of the following observed behavior: when the Notification screen is visible, the calendar items are observed to be re-ordering themselves near-constantly (the first item keeps getting added and removed indefinitely) and the smooth scrolling of the stocks notification at the top of the screen is extremely slow and stuttery. Removing Calendar restores the scrolling to normal; adding it back leads to the slow/stutter behavior.
I don't know if this is contributing to the overall battery problems with the iPhone 4S, but it definitely seems to be an issue for upgraded iPod Touches.
    I hope this is helpful.

Similar issue on a 3GS with iOS5. I found that this issue was related to an Exchange event that had been cancelled.  Removing the event stabilized the notifications screen.  Waiting to see if it improves the abominable battery life - I am recharging twice a day.

  • MX screen vs. battery life

I recently upgraded from an 8gb Microphoto to the 6gb MX. I like it a lot, but had always been used to the Microphoto's screen going dark - now I've got backlighting all the time. I've taken the brightness down to 20% and the backlight time to 0 sec. to conserve battery life but am surprised there's no option to let it go dark. Has anyone had any experience with the MX to know whether the constantly-on screen impacts the alleged 30 hours of music play?

Leaving the display acti've will most definitely have a negati've impact on the play time. You have to lock the player to allow the screen to shut off entirely.

  • Advice how to increase Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook battery life.

I will receive my Spectre XT Touchsmart Ultrabook back from the repair center tomorrow.Hopefully the issues that it had were resolved so I'm looking forward to enjoying using it again. However, one of the biggest issue that I had with that laptop was it's short battery life. Surfing the web and perhaps doing some light Photoshop work at a cafe makes it last AT MOST 2 and a half hours. Does anyone have advice as to how to make it last at least 3 hours or more? - Does HP CoolSense burn battery life?- I will most likely turn off the backlit keyboard and lower the display brightness to about 40%- Do Dropbox and Box Sync consume a lot of battery?- What are the best Power Options settings to squeeze more battery life? Thanks in advance for any replies.
