HP Spectre x360 - ClickPad Scroll Settings Lost Upon Startup in Windows 10

Thanks for the tip!  I don't actually use the TouchPad (I just wanted to get it to remain disabled across sessions), but I'm sure it will be very useful for those who do!

Download version 18 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver and Software.Navigate HP's Software and Driver Downloads site (http://www8.hp.com/us/en/drivers.html) to find the latest approved driver for your model.  Filter by version, selecting Microsoft Windows 8.1 on the dropdown menu.  Look for the download in the "Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices" category.  If a Synaptics driver with a version number starting in 18 is listed, download it.If a Synaptics driver with a version number starting in 18 is NOT listed, download the driver directly from HP (http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68001-68500/sp68198.exe).Download the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package (http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F22D5FDB-59CD-4275-8C95-1BE17BF70B21/wushowhide.diagcab).Change the Windows Update Services setting from Automatic (Delayed Start) to Manual. In the Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and open Services.Scroll down to Windows Update and double-click it to bring up its properties.Click Stop to stop the service from running.Change the Startup Type to Manual and click OK.Uninstall version 19 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver. In the Control Panel, select Device Manager.Click the "+" next to "Mice and Other Pointing Devices" to expand that category.Double-click on the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad to bring up its properties.Navigate to the Driver tab and click Uninstall.Check the box to delete the driver software for this device, then click OK to uninstall.Uninstall version 19 of the Synaptics TouchPad Software (HP Control Zone). In the Control Panel, select Programs and Features.Scroll down to HP Control Zone (published by Synaptics Incorporated) and uninstall it.Restart your computer.Install version 18 of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver and Software.Run the Windows 10 "Show or Hide Updates" Troubleshooter Package and hide updates to the Synaptics TouchPad Driver.  (Doing so will block your system from automatically reinstalling or showing updates for version 19 of the driver.)Change the Windows Update Services setting from Manual back to Automatic (Delayed Start).Restart your computer again.Rejoice!  Your TouchPad settings will finally save across sessions again.   --DanG

The scroll settings are not been saved when rebooting the laptop. Just recently updated from windows 8.1 to windows 10. All was working before the update. The driver version that is 19.0.12.95, driver date 15/07/2015. Also as you can see on the inserted picture that in the test area it is black so no testing can be done.

Hello , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I read your post about the Windows 10 update, and wanted to assist you!
Have you tried installing updated drivers using the HP Support Assistant, or the Windows Update?  Please review the following document, to see if it helps:HP Products - Where Do I Find Windows 10 Drivers and Software for My Model? If you are still having trouble, then I recommend using the Go back to an earlier build option, in your System Settings:
HP Notebook PCs - Upgrading to Windows 10
Once you are back to your original Operating System, check to see if you are experiencing the same issue. If not, then you may consider holding off on the Windows 10 update for a few weeks, until drivers can be updated. Please let me know if this information was helpful by clicking the thumbs up below.

  • Is anyone experiencing Safari lagging upon startup in Windows 7?

I consistantly will have Safari take at least 58 seconds to startup then another 10 to load the first page.  Is this normal?  I'm using Windows 7 and Safari 5.1.7.

I know Safari a little and 5.1 can come to its knees easily and repeatedly.
At first I thought it lasted longer if:
    disble java, plugins, javascript
run only in Private Browsing mode
    disable web cache
I'd like to see it launch with cache disabled and like firefox always start in Private mode.
    Plus site specific preferences
Still accepts ad and tracking cookies - must consider those to be "well you visited the site" so the site can set whatever it wants.
    I'll use Opera 11.50 instead.
I tried Windows "trobleshoot compatibility" it wants to set to run it in XP SP3 mode and at the end "incompatible application".
    Settings applied:
    XP SP2 mode
Disable Aero (iTunes will lose video/movie Window if the desktop is locked for UAC)
I've lost all borders of windows and tabs, freezes or locks up but no sign of  not responding even though I can't do anything - but I could close Windows and tabs from the Task bar.
Total PITA and waste of time as I investigate, remove and check for conflicts with Kaspersky and others.

  • All settings lost after startup

    anyone knows what to do?

I sounds like you may be setting up prefs/settings for one account and logging on another account, but not quite. Any chance you lost, deleted, or misplaced your Home folder?

  • User settings lost on startup

I got a call this morning from a friend saying she started her computer this morning (G5 PPC tower running 10.4.8) and although she was logged in as usual (her user name is correct) all her settings were gone, i.e. mail wanted to be set up, desktop was default image, and program icons were not in dock as left the night before. She did not rename her home folder or change any settings on shutdown.
Cutting to the chase, what can I do to restore her to her old prefs? I had her log out and back in with no change.
    1.33 Ghz Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Nevermind. After another phone call it was revealed that, no, the user folder was not renamed, but it was moved to another folder on the hard drive. Now I just have to get it back in there (which I imagine will require a new admin user account and root privileges) Funny how you have to ask the question just the right way sometimes.

  • "Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working" Error Message Loop upon Startup of WIndows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Ok I have a HP Touchsmart 6000 running Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS.  It is my 74 year old mothers computer and about 3 months ago it started acting up.  First thing that happened was the internal DVD Burner started working intermitently, recognizing
her QuickBooks backup DVD files occasionally.  I got her a new  internal DVD burner and it worked for a while.   during that time on Startup Help and Support would all of a sudden popup right away.    Then recently Adobe Acrobat would
launch a PDF file about Flash and keep opening multiple instances of it.   Now her new DVD doesnt work again and on startup at the windows desktop she gets an error "Windows Explorer has Stopped Working".   No matter what I click the error
keeps looping.  No program has been opened that causes it to crash because the error happens immediately and keeps repeating.   I have tried to boot to Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking and have tried System Restore to no avail.
I have ran Malwarebytes Antivirus, Malwarebytes AntiExploit, AntiRootkit as well as Combofix.   I have run the AntiMalware software from Microsoft and have updated all the drivers for the HP system.   To no succcess.
At one point the system did load and an error came up JAN2OSD failed to start due to missing ACPI or something like that.  For that brief moment Explorer stopped crashing.   When I finished updating  driverss though the error  came back.
Please Help  as she is about to cry and no one wants to make a 74 year old woman cry.:)
    Thanks,
    Jeff

  • Spectre x360 with Windows 10 issues

I just got the Spectre x360 today (8/6/15). It has Windows 10 preinstalled, yet the option to rotate the screen in all of its positions is greyed out - I've seen the post about altering the registry and that kind of works. I have to say I am a bit taken back by how much work I've had to put into configuring this computer! I guess maybe its Windows 10, but I can't even seem to get Windows Live Mail (which I had to install because the new mail program doesn't let you leave copies of messages on the server?) to work. Apparently there is a conflict with Live Mail and the Intel Graphics drivers? All I know is I've spent close to 10 hours trying to get this thing to a point I can hand it to my techno-challenged boss, and from what I can see I have a long way to go... Seriously thinking that for the top dollar we paid for this, it should perform as advertised (rotate screen when closed and be able to use the touch keyboard in tablet mode). Mine sure doesn't. So if anyone has suggestions for the following, I would be very grateful...
Greyed out option for screen rotation and it is in the screen locked position.
Touch keyboard icon in lower right on the taskbar disappears when you enter tablet mode, making it impossible to type in any programs/windows. Even if you have the touch keyboard open and you enter laptop mode, it disappears.
Settings that I have applied revert back to default settings after restart. Example: I have configured my touchpad so that tapping is deactivated, but when my computer restarts, tapping is active.
    I am really frustrated.

  • Spectre x360 (13-4101dx) Synaptics Touchpad Issue

Hello, I just bought a new Spectre x360 (13-4101dx, pre-loaded with Windows 10) and I'm having issues with the Synaptics touchpad. After a Windows update, the driver was updated to version 19.0.12.95.  I have reverse scrolling disabled but for some applications, the two finger scrolling is still reversed. Applications like Google Chrome and Device Manager work fine, the reverse scrolling is disabled. However, for applications like Windows settings, Microsoft Edge, and pretty much everything Windows-related, it seems to be permanently reversed. Also, every time I restart my laptop, all of the settings are reverted back to default. Now, on my HP Envy 15-j000, I have the same driver (19.0.12.95) and I don't face the same issues with reverse scrolling being "permanent" on Windows-related applications. However, the settings do still reset itself after every reboot. How can I fix this? Will Synaptics be releasing a fixed driver for this or am I just missing something? I absolutely hate reverse scrolling and only a small handful of my applications actually run with it disabled...

I have this same issue with my HP OMEN using driver 19.0.12.95, windows update says this is the latest driver. Scrolling remains inverted in some apps/settings.  I fixed this issue by reverting to an older driver (18.1.30.2), scrolling is now uniform. Kinda annoying that I had to fix it this way, but I had to go the HP Omen driver/support page and download the driver for the synaptics touchpad (even though HP's website insists you use Windows update for Windows 10). I then had to install the old driver, go into device manager and roll back the driver to 18.1.30.2 - you have to do this otherwise Win 10 will just use the latest driver. After that you can change the setting in the synaptics clickpad settings and it will be uniform. This was what worked for me.

  • Can Spectre X360 trackpad be turned off?

I am buying the HP Spectre x360 and need to know if its trackpad can be turned off, such as with an F (function) key press.   Using the unit in laptop mode with a mouse, I will not want to use the trackpad and my hands will otherwise touch the touchpad and move the cursor all over the place as I type.  My current laptop has an option F4 key to disable the 'internal pointing device' (the trackpad) but I want to know if the Spectre x360 has such an option.  I will be getting my machine with WIN 10 pre-installed.  Thanks.

Perhaps it is a different driver version then. I have version 19.0.12.95 on my system, seen below:  Clicking on "ClickPad Settings" gives me this window: And the gears next to "Tapping" are where I can find those settings. This version of the driver was installed automatically for me, and since upgrading to Windows 10, I have the problem that a few others are mentioning, regarding settings not being saved. I think that this driver worked fine under Windows 8.1 though.

  • A few questions before buying a spectre x360

Hi I'm considering buying a 13" Spextre x360 once Win10 arrives in final version -  but have a few questions before going ahead. Mostly looking into the 4041no (i'm from Denmark) - or similar configuration. I need a configuration with at least 500 GB of hard drive and 8 GBs of RAM.  1. Will the spectre support all the new windows 10 touchpad gestures (similar to OS X/Mac gestures)? I have read something about the touch pad on the not being a "precision touchpad" but instead being run by synoptic drivers or something. Don't know exactly what it means. I come from a Mocbook Pro - and these gestures are so good.  2. One of the things some talk about in reviews is heat - that the x360 gets very hot to hold. Even just browsing the web. And also fan noise being loud. Any experience here - is it just a few unfortunate buyers, or are any of these issues generic. 3. Browsing the web there are so many different model numbers, that i can't keep up - and some of them seem to be identical configurations. Is there any overview of what is what. For instance 4041no and 4040no seem identical - but there is a difference in price, at the stores i have seen online. Similarly there is a 4030no and a 4032no. What are all these models. different numbers for every store/country/????. Any help here.. 4. The 4041no model i'm looking into has this QHD screen. Very high resolution. How is that in everyday life for surfing the web (mostly Chrome), Photoshop, watching movies local/streaming and more. It seems that everything will be very small, or is there scaling options or other stuff that makes this high resolution usable in real life. Or maybe lower the resoltion in settings. Any experience? I will soon try to find one in a real store to try out if possible. Think i'll start with those questions :-) And maybe also some generel feedback on the spectre x360. Thanks /Jonas

    Hi Jonas,
I have the 4014 model (core i7, 256gb ssd, 8gb ram and FHD screen) so I can answer some but not all of your questions.
    1. Touchpad is responsive and easy to use for me. Just upgraded to windows 10 and multi touch gestures are working fine. Three finger tap to open search, four finger tap to open the quick settings panel. Three finger flicks do app switching and minimising. The pad is controlled by the synaptic driver, but it has quite a few options and seems to work well for me.
    2. Heat is not an issue for me. Sure, it gets warm when running intensive tasks, but as long as you are not pushing the cpu for long periods of time, it will be fine on your lap. Browsing the web, the fan will come on briefly when I load 10 or more tabs at a time, otherwise the fan will remain off.
Being an aluminium chassis, it has the ability to transfer heat out of the shell more easily than a plastic laptop, so you might notice it getting warm quicker, but it also cools down fast.
The fan is no louder than any other laptop I have used.
    3. Can't help you with model numbers, sorry.
    4. I'm finding that a lot of applications do not scale correctly on my FHD screen, so I can imagine that the QHD would be the same or worse. Most of the time, you can get the applications to look better by turning off display scaling in the compatibility settings. Sometimes this means that the application then looks smaller on screen, though text, images and icons are sharp, they are harder to read. The QHD would make these apps even smaller. I do not think QHD is worth it on a small screen for this reason.
In general the laptop works well. I use it in my job as a teacher, and being able to convert from laptop to tablet is a huge benefit. It is super fast to start up and easily gets me through a school day (quite often getting home with more than half a charge). I will just close the lid between uses and it sleeps, drawing very little power. It is capable of running Photoshop and office apps, while browsing the web and doing some light duty CAD modeling on the side.
One small issue that I and a few others have had is a crackling, buzzing noise due to the processor power regulation. Only audible in really quiet rooms or when putting an ear close to the device, when the computer is idling. Not an issue for everyday use, but something to be aware of if you have sensitive hearing or are annoyed by slight imperfections.
Hope that answers a few of your questions.

  • Do not buy the HP Spectre X360

The Spectre X360 was a laptop I wish I had not purchased. The most expensive buy I’ve made, and my first HP laptop, and it has been disastrous. It does not seem to be just me with these issues. The wifi and internet – the main reason I use the laptop – has been poor ever since I got it. It only connects if I'm next to my router, and if I leave the room it disconnects. This has not been a problem on my iPhone, my Sky+ box, other laptops. I’ve spent hundreds of pounds and hundreds of hours trying to change my network in my house to make the situation better. From wireless adapters to new routers to powerlink adapters. I’ve downloaded driver after driver from HP and Intel, tweaked the settings. Every update brings a glimmer of hope before having the same issues. Updating to Windows 10 is the final straw, having made it worse. I’m not alone. I search Twitter, the HP forums, Reddit, and everyone is saying the same. They’d wished they’d not made the purchase. HP’s advice was to get them to replace the card. But what’s the point? I lose the laptop I rely on for work for two weeks, when it is clear from the forums this action is of no use. The card simply doesn't work with the laptop. How can six months after release this still be an issue? Had I not spent £1000 this would have probably gone out of the window with the anger. To make matters worse four months later the keys have started to wear off and it no longer looks like the beautiful model I once bought. They are marked, and the paint has come off. How is that even possible so soon? It no longer looks or feels like a premium purchase. If I’d reacted sooner I would have got my money back and gone for an Apple Macbook or a Microsoft Surface. I fear this will fall on deaf ears as per the forum topics, tweets, and contact with support. I do not want a replacement card, it makes no difference. I would rather have a refund.

    Bill,
It looks like you may have to settle for a slower flash drive at this price point for the foreseeable future: Every single one of the USB 3.0 flash drives at this capacity point that delivers at least the same level of read performance as the original PNY Turbo costs much more money than the PNY. ($150-ish for a SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB USB 3.0 flash drive, anyone?)
With that said, the PNY Turbo 3.0 is only intended to compete with the slower USB 3.0 flash drives such as the SanDisk Ultra USB 3.0 drive (whose maximum read speed is only 100 MB/sec even in its largest-capacity 128GB version).

  • Spectre X360 Screen rotation

Hi, I recently bought spectre X360 with windows 10, but the screen rotation is not working in tent and tablet mode.I have been trying to get a solution for this in display settings but Lock rotation of this display is ON and disabled. Therefore I cant even change it. Please let me know how to enable screen rotation.

I bought this laptop about 3 weeks ago. When running windows 8.1 the screen did rotate into portrait mode when turned, but only when the laptop was in the tablet formfactor. As long as the keyboard was still on, it would only flip 180 and not got into portrait mode.  Now that i am on win 10 i have the same issue as the OP. I applied the registry setting and the screen does rotate, but it does it in laptop and tablet mode (i am speaking of the physical mode, not the win 10 tablet mode). I dont like that it does it in laptop mode, but its better than nothing. I would like to see an official fix that also ungreyed the option as well.

  • Hp Active Pen Spectre x360

I just purchase a HP Spectre x360 and the HP Active pen from Best Buy.  Great laptop but I have noticed that I need to press VERY hard before the pen responds. If I don't press hard, then pen strokes appear very light.   When I cross H's or T's the cross doesn't register.   If i put the laptop in Tablet mode, then I can get the letters to appear as expected.  But when Writing on the screen in regular "laptop" mode or "Tent mode", the letters appear as "chicken" scratch I didn't find any settings for adjusting the Pen's Sensitivity in windows or one note. I would prefer that the pen behave more like a finger.  Just more precise.

I'm positive the x360 supports HP Active Pen.  I am using the HP Active pen on my Spectre x360 right now.The problem is that it's not as sensitive as I want it to be.I was hoping for an experience similar to the Surface Pro, however I am noticing that I have to press hard to see all of the pen strokes. "hard" in this case means the point right before the Spectre Screen begins to flex.  If I apply any more pressure to the Pen, I can see the screen flexing.  I know the screen is durable, but I don't like pressing that hard on my monitor. HP Sepctre x360 has a Synaptics Active Digitzer, which means Surface Pro Pen will not work on it.  The only other synaptics pen on the market is the Dell Active Stylus. Does HP really want me to go to the competitor for a solution on their flagship product?
