HP Split x2 hybrid drive change AHCI to ATA

I have an HP Split x2 hybrid drive tablet/notebook.  I am trying to change the SATA mode from AHCI to ATA temporarily.  I am trying to hack a notebook hard drive from my grandson's old HP notebook so he can use it in his XBox 360 slim.  I have done the thumb drive portion, but now I have to change the AHCI to ATA.  I found the controllers, but there is no way to change the settings.  Please help!!

Most likely your system is hardware locked and you will not be able to mess with those UEFI/Bios options and again we aren't here to help someone Hack HP or any other systems hardware BIOS. This is a DIY project you will attempt yourself.

  • IdeaPad Y570 - hybrid drive dual-boot ? ( Win 7 + Debian )

Hello, I've tried to find specific information but none was found so I've made this topic.
    My question is.
Is it possible to dualboot on Y570 with hybrid drive (SSD 32GB + 750GB HDD)?
I've have my Windows 7 already installed and used. I have 2 partitions - C (the biggest 690GB - Win installed + data) and D (from lenovo - drivers, utilities...)
I haven't change any setting with partitions.
I would love to split the biggest drive C into 2 smallers - one with Win 7 another with Debian installed.
I prefer NOT to install Win 7 again. I just want to create new partition, install Debian on it and have dual-boot system. I don't need One Key recovery system.
Another question is, how will the SSD work with Debian? If not, I can live through that, but I would prefer if it works at least for Win 7, just like now.
I've read that Optimus is not working under Linux. Okay, no problem, but can the external graphic card be disabled at least in Linux?
To sum up, my goal is to have Linux without formating drive / without reinstalling Win 7. Is it even possible?
It's pretty complex question and thanks for anserws.

ratchet wrote:II am able to install and run arch by installing grub to the mbr. when I do this, though, I cannot boot windows. (the windows section of grub menu.lst is uncommented and points toward hda0,0. I have tried hda 0,1 as well).
Is this a typo in your post or how it was in menu.lst? Surely it should be hd0,0 and not hda0,0? The entry I have in my menu.lst is as follows:
    # (2) Windows
    title Windows
    rootnoverify (hd0,0)
    makeactive
    chainloader +1
    What was yours?

  • MSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache vs hybrid drive

I'm thinking of buying an ENVY laptop and noticed there are 2 separate options for SSD.  One is an hybrid hard drive and the other is mSSD Hard Drive Acceleration Cache.  What is the difference and what are the benefits of each.  Also...
    thanks

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (pn) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.
Please see Wikipedia - Hybrid drive for information on both hybrid / caching styles. The mSSD / HDD style is typically based on two seperate drives and Intel Smart Response Technology (which is implemented through a combination of certain Intel chipsets and Intel storage drivers). The hybrid HDD style is typically based a traditional hard drive and NAND flash memory on one chassis and is fully impemented on the drive.

  • Envy 4-1130US access Intel RAID Manager and reinstall back into hybrid Drive.

So I was trying to dual boot Linux and windows 7 on my HP ENVY 4. I foud the only way was to remove the raid so that there was two seperate hard drives apperently. before I did this I made the recovery disks to be able to set it back to normal once I was done my linux work.
Once I tried to recover my computer the disks say that: "this software cannot be used to recover the systems" or somthing like that. I dont know why they dont work though as I had to use 5 disks to burn them.
I want to reinstall the raid and notice you said you cant access this. So how do I go about making it back into a hybrid drive. This seems increadibly poor design that it wont let people fully use the hardware that they purchased. I have installed windows 8 myself but there is now just two different drives.
So please tell me how to fix this problem.

Ok, I just now review your PC details. your PC has a 32GB mSATA driver and another one is 500GB(as standard shipping).
raid is created for the HDD and mSATA drive to work together and give you max performance. this is customized by HP using internal utility(at the time of recovery also) and there is no option for users to configure/change RAID settinigs. no access for consumers to change RAID as playing with it may cause PC/OS issues.
i am afraid, expert users may not be able to cinfigure much on it due to no options at BIOS level to configure RAID.

  • I want to install hybrid drive in Macbook pro. I bought my Mac book with lion and am now running mountain lion. I was told I needed install disk to set up new drive before restoring from my time capsule. Is this correct and if so how do I get disk osx10?

I purchased a Mac book Pro in Aug 2012 with lion and have upgraded to mountain lion. I currently am looking to install the segate 750 gig hybrid drive. I watching video I shows me needing a OSX 10 disk to boot off of when the new disk is in and the use time capsule to restore system from back up drive to new hybrid. Hope I got this correct so far. that being said my Mac Book did not come with a disk therefore is one available, when I get to point of restoring from back up with it be the same mountain lion system I had. Sorr if this sounds redudant.. Thank you in advance

Connect the new hybrid drive to your MBP.  Start up your MBP holding the OPTION key, the two HDD icons will appear.  Select the 'restore' icon on the right.  When you get to the menu where you have 4 options, select Disk Utility.  Format the drive and then you can use the option of restoring it from Time Machine.
    Ciao.

  • Random restarts after hard drive change!!

Hi guys, I have a Late 2009 15" MacBook Pro (Unibody) A1286 that recently had a hard drive change due to the stock one coming close to failure. After a couple hours of usage, It suddenly freezes (and if i'm playing audio, it sounds like a broken record for a second) and restarts and gets the "Your computer restarted because of a problem" message. When the desktop loads, It requests to send a report to apple and provides this message:

  • Ssd cache and hybrid drive

I am looking to order the HP 17t-j000 with 8GB of memory.  It offers both SSD cache and a Hybrid drive as options, and you can choose both.    Does it make sense to get both, or is this just redundant?   I

No the SSD cache drive with hybrid drive will outperform just the hybrid drive by quite a bit. You will get boot time performance close to a main SSD drive, but a main SSD drive would be even faster, particularly on data transfer.

  • External Hard Drives Changing Permissions to Read Only

Three of my USB external hard drives have suddenly changed to read only. One of the times I was trying to transfer/back-up the files from one drive that had changed to read only to another external. Suddenly the second drive changed permissions. Then after plugging a third external, that drive changed permissions. They all were working perfectly fine with my computer and I have only been using them on MACS. Any explanations? Could there be something wrong with my USB ports? Is it possible to have a virus of some sort?
    Thank you!

In disk utility I had a look. I cannot verify or set permission (greyed out). The data coming back from info. How can I change this??

  • 9i jdbc driver change causes problems

    Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone had any problems with jdbc when migrating to oracle 9i. We are using timestamps from java which were mapped to dates. In oracle there is a function which takes a date. Now this won't work anymore as the mapping changed. Question is, did anyone use the V8Compatibility flag before? I tried it and it doesn't seem to work. When looking at the jdbc implementation it seems to me that something is not implemented yet.
    Any feedback?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rein

  • Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive SATA 6Gbps 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch ST1000LM014

Hello again, is the Macbook Pro 13-inch early 2011 compatiable with the Seagate 1TB Solid State Hybrid Drive SATA 6Gbps 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch ST1000LM014 and if so, how much faster would it be than a regular HDD?

If it's no higher than 12.5 mm, then it should work (and fit) in your model.
It will work fine where the optical drive is should you decide to replace the HDD with an SSD and put the hybrid in the space occupied by the optical drive. The optical drive provides 6.0 Gb/s support.

  • I am looking to add a hybrid drive or SSD drive to my Imac 27" 2010. What can you recommend?

I have a 2.8 Ghz i5 with 8 GB Ram and 1 TB HDD and was a bit disappointed about the speed. My 2007 24" 2.8 c2d iMac starts up faster than this new used 2010 i5. In order to make start up time faster and also start apps faster I thought of adding a hybrid drive. The Apple shop in town can install it for me, but I would need to know what would be a good option.
    Any advice is appreciated.

Some option here, adding an SSD should make it a Hybrid drive in 10.8.2...

  • Splitting Mirrored Raid Drives

    Hello,
I have two external drives that are striped with one mirroring the other. I want to split or separate them without losing data. Can I just continue using the primary drive that comes up on the desktop (without plugging in the mirrored drive) without any problem? If I separate the mirrored drive, I presume I will need to erase it, and will not be able to access the media on it, correct? Is there any way to access the media on it and use it without erasing media?
I tried to access just the mirrored drive to see if it showed up in Disk Utility, which it did not. Then, after plugging in both drives, Disk Utility is now repairing raid slices...for another 8 hours. Did I damage my media?
If one can never access the data on a mirrored drive, then what is the benefit of it being a "backup"??
    Thank you in advance,
    Video Editor

Is the RAID striped or mirrored. You said they were "striped" with one "mirroring" the other, but this is incorrect terminology. Either the RAID is striped or mirrored. You can create a mirrored RAID from two identical striped RAIDs, but an individual array is either striped or mirrored.
If you truly had a mirrored RAID, then separating the drives would not affect the data as each drive simply has a copy of the other. However, if you truly had a striped array that you separated, then your data may be lost completely because each drive actually has one half of the data and the other drive has the other half. Each file is literally split between each drive. Lose a drive and you lose the data.

the name and the root of the hard drive change, how can i reset it?

  • Can I add a 3rd party SSD to a dv7 that has the 750GB Hybrid drive?

I have been given contradictory answers from 2 different HP sales reps.
I am looking to purchase a dv7 with a single storage drive, and will at some later time like to add a second storage drive to the empty bay. One rep told me that both the dv6 and dv7 have 2 empty bays, and I am nearly certain this is incorrect as I've read that people were removing the optical drives of their dv6 in order to add a second disk storage drive. I was also told that if I purchase the laptop with the hybrid drive, I would NOT be able to add a SSD later on down the road because of incompatibility. Another rep told me that if I started with the hybrid drive, I COULD add a second storage drive, in the form of either a SSD or HDD.
I realize that when trying to customize the laptop, it won't allow me to choose both the 750GB hybrid AND the 32GB SSD together, as it forces me to choose either the hybrid alone, or the regular HDD and the 32GB SSD...so perhaps there is some truth to a hybrid and SSD not being able to function together properly???
So my question remains, if I customize a dv7 with only the 750GB Hybrid drive, could I later add a 3rd party SSD without issues?

The hybrid drive is physically just a 2.5 inch laptop hard drive and will leave a bay open. The 32 gig ssd is an mSATA module and is located far away from the hard drives so even if one is present it should not block use of a second hard drive. Here is the most recent dv7 manual. Look at pages 47 and 70.
    Manual
I believe as long as you have only one 2.5 inch standard SATA drive the second hard drive bay is available for an additional drive. You may need a caddy and cable, however.
What exact model of the dv7 are you looking to purchase? This would help answer more definitely I think. The dv6 definitely does not have 2 hard drive bays, just the dv7.

  • Mavericks freezes frequently on MBP3,1/4 Gb/500 Gb hybrid drive

    Hi all,
I recently upgraded my mid 2007 Macbook Pro (MBP3,1 w/4Gb RAM and 500GB Seagate Momentus XT 2.5" SATA 7200RPM-SSD Hybrid Drive) from Mountain Lion, which ran fine, to Mavericks. I am now encountering frequent system freezes. This typically means that everything stops working and the screen is stuck at whatever I tried doing last. No spinning pizza, no error messages. Time to freeze varies between minutes and hours after hard reset. Disk utility does not report any abnormalities (ran it in regular and recovery mode), permissions have been fixed. I would like to know whether I should downgrade and give up on Mavericks or whether there may be an issue with the hybrid HDD/SSD disk I installed a while ago.
I'd appreciate if someone could tell me how to investigate the system log files for clues as to what causes these freezes.
To provide some perspective, here is what I went through so far:
    - my first attempt at installing after a sluggish download failed with an error message - sth to do with the hard drive (unfortunately, no record of this)
    - second attempt worked fine, but
         system sluggish
external monitor (23" Apple Cinema Display) had some issues that looked like glitches/tearing
issues with Jave (Crashplan, Adobe, Matlab)
frequent freezes, freeze could frequently be triggered by opening Disk Utility, then moving cursor over dock; dock would magnify, computer freeze
    - ran DiskUtility to repair permissions (lots)
    - took it in to the Apple Store, talked to a friendly genius, who ran some test and told me he couldn't do much b/c of 'legacy system"; recommended full wipe and clean install from recovery drive; ran DU from recovery drive to repair hdd (DU found and fixed a few minor things)
    - did as the man said, wiped, clean install
    - time machine backup no longer recognized (ouch)
    - system isn't exactly super responsive, but manageable
    - luckily, crashplan still works; however, with frequent crashes, I have not yet been able to download my files
    Thanks,
    DJ

I have also been considering upgrading my MBP (early 2008 model, I think) that has the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB drive.
Do you know what firmware your Momentus XT has?
When I upgraded OSX in the pst, I found a lot of postings that suggested upgrading the firmware before upgrading. I have firmware SD28 in my Momentus XT, which I think is the latest firmware from Seagate for this drive.
I'd love to know if it your problems exist with SD28 before I go ahead with my own upgrade!
