  • HP Smart Array Disk Mounting(?) help

I have just installed Solaris 10 (x86) on a HP Proliant DL380 G4, this involved applying the driver updates for the RAID controller to allow the Solaris install to work (there have been lots of posts about the RAID controller driver being required for the install to work)
The machine has two raid controllers the onboard 6i controller and the additional HP 6400 controller we've added to hook up the Smart Array disks
I need to know how to mount or add or configure the disks in the smart array. I think i have the driver installed for the 6400 raid controller but the next step i am not sure of. The BIOS let me configure the discs to be a RAID 5 and I was expecting to see the discs in Solaris.
Is anyone able to offer a suggestion ?
Having a HP server with a Smart Array / Storage Works device should be fairly common but Google hasn't turned up anything useful.
Further information (may or may not be useful).
In the Server BIOS i have the following information for the disk array controller:
    Logical Drive #1 RAID 5 1955.8GB
    Direct Attached Storage
Controller HP Smart Array 6400, Slot 3
The individual disks are (i have 8 in total):
    SCSI Port 1, ID 0
    SCSI Port 1, ID 1
    SCSI Port 1, ID 2
    SCSI Port 1, ID 3
    SCSI Port 1, ID 4
    SCSI Port 1, ID 5
    SCSI Port 1, ID 8
    SCSI Port 2, ID 0
I don't know what happened to SCSI Port 1 ID 6 and 7.
In /dev/dsk/ i have quite a few disks listed but htey don't seem to map onto the 8 disks, or the one disk logical disk i was expecting solaris to see.
I thought my disk would be something like
c1t0d0 - is the disk which Solaris install found (i think)
    c2t0d0 - this is a symbolis link to devices/pci@0,0/pci8086,3599@6/pci8086,329@0/pci1014,la7@2/pciell,409c@4/sd0@0:wd
Is this my second disk ??

  • Solaris 8 install: Compaq Smart Array 431 Controller

How do I get Solaris to recognize the Smart Array 431 controller? It can't find any suitable disks under installation.

I was also wondering why this support was removed since it was in 2.5.1, 2.6, and 2.7? I wish to upgrade my servers to 2.8 however no support for the Array controller. I looked around and Microsoft NT/2000 looks like the only NOS that still contains support for the Compaq Array Smart Controller (EISA). Is it because Microsoft is a Monopoly, or people buy it because they still support legacy hardware/software?

The HP support side shows a Linux certification matrix at: http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/servers/linux/hplinuxcert.html
From there you can also download the necessary drivers and instructions or use HP smartstart CD which prepares the system for the OS you need to install. Oracle Enterprise Linux is binary compatible with RHEL. You will need to click on "Archive" to see support for Enterprise Linux version 4 and older.

  • Smart Array P800 Controller Accelerator issue

    Hello there.
We are running a DL180 G6 with a Smart Array P800 disc controller and 8 harddrives in RAID 5.
When logging into the server using HP System Management Homepage it states that the 'Accelerator' is disabled, and this accelerator have brought us lots of grief.
This particular disc controller are using two batteries to power a disk cache, and initially we interpreted this issue as coming from faulty batteries and replaced the first one, and then both.
This did not address the error message.
As that did not address it we have since then done the following:
    Verified configuration
    Cleared IML
    Upgraded BIOS
    Upgraded iLO
    Upgraded HP server firmware+drivers
    Upgraded centos
Restarting the server and booting to it using ACU:

Driver version in use is 3.6.28-RH3 (cciss, as hpsa is not compatible)
cciss is now part of the main linux kernel and should be upgraded with a yum update
The latest HP Service Pack for Proliant (2014.02.0B) is installed
The latest BIOS is installed (2013.07.01 A)
The iLO software is updated to the latest firmware (4.26)
A yum update have been issued.
Neither of the above have addressed the issue.
The only time this error message is cleared is shortly after a reboot -  but it then re-occurs approx one day later.
Have anyone else experienced this issue or have any information in regards to how to fix it?
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Some basic HP Smart Array questions

Hopefully a simple answer to what seems to be a fairly simple question...
If, for example, you have a P800 HP Smart Array with 24 disks and a spare and you want to partition a number of database files across drives to maximise I/O performance (the transaction log file is heavy on writes and the other data and index files are heavy on reads), would it be better to:-
    a) Use the 24/25 disks to create one SAS Array and three logical drives:-
SAS Array A with spare - 3 Logical drives
         Logical Drive 1 (1200 Gb, RAID 1+0)
         Logical Drive 2 (1200 Gb, RAID 1+0)
         Logical Drive 3 (1200 Gb, RAID 1+0)
    b) Use the 24 disks to create three SAS arrays each with one Logical Drive:-
    SAS Array A  & Logical Drive 1  (1200 Gb, RAID 1+0)
    SAS Array B  & Logical Drive 1 (1200 Gb, RAID 1+0)
    SAS Array C  & Logical Drive 1  (1200 Gb, RAID 1+0)
Not sure how the Spare disk fits into Option B?
Anyway, if the objective is to maximize I/O performance, is it Option A or B?
The phrase, 'logical drive'... Does this mean that I/O is partitioned at the logical drive level or does the HP Smart array controller spread the I/O across the SAS Array?  If I look at I/O counters (eg. Perfmon on Windows Server), I can see that Logical drives as in Option A seem to be separated completely as one logical drive could have a disk queue and other logical drives on top of the same SAS array will not have a disk queue.  What are the prose and cons of Option A and B?  Understanding these issues will help me to come up with the right configuration in terms of arrrays and logical drives.
    Thanks in advance,
    Clive

  • [SOLVED] Unable to boot after last upgrade [HP Smart Array]

    Hello guys.
After last upgrade I'm unable to boot. I have fileserver with 2 discs in HP Smart Array RAID 1.
While booting, kernel is unable to find my raid (should be cciss) and therefore lvm2 hook fails to find root partition. While going into recovery, I can chroot without an issue, lsmod shows that cciss driver is properly loaded, disk exits in /dev/cciss/, logical group and volumes are detected properly.
No matter what I do, I just can't get cciss module into kernel. Putting in MODULES in mkinitcpio.conf's MODULES="" didn't help. I'm listing my initramfs images and there is no cciss.ko. I'm also searching for module in my filesystem and can not find it.
    Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you for your quick reply.
DSpider wrote:First of all, have you tried the Fallback entry? Because initramfs-linux-fallback.img is supposed to have a full range of modules.
    Of course, no change.
    DSpider wrote:
Second, after editing /etc/mkinitcpio.conf you need to regenerate your initramfs.
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
But the MODULES section needs to have something in there...
    Here's mine:
    MODULES="pata_amd sata_nv ehci-hcd ohci-hcd ext2 ext3 ext4 vfat snd-hda-intel"
You probably need "mdadm" or "mdadm_udev" in there too, I'm not sure... I don't use RAID, but maybe these will help:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Mk … Using_RAID
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/So … ID_and_LVM
HP Smart Array is hardware RAID, therefore I don't need mdadm. Right module should be cciss, but this is somehow not working. Adding this into MODULES does not add cciss module to image.
When I'm booting from Arch install for recovery and chroot, cciss is loaded and my HP Smart Array disk is visible.

  • Compiling rdesktop with Smart Card support?

    Hello,
I've tried like the dikens to compile "rdesktop" (an open source solution to connect Windoze PCs using Microsoft RDP protocol). I can compile and run the source code, but I find it impossible to compile in smart card support. I've tried everything to get the "pcsc-lite" components to compile in - but I'm too much of a makefile noob I'm afraid.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
In a Remote Desktop scenario, a user is using a remote server for running services, and the smart card is local to the computer that the user is using. In a smart card logon scenario, the smart card service on the remote server redirects to the smart card reader
connected to the local computer where the user is trying to log on. You can refer following article for details.
