HP Storageworks P4500 G2

I need help installing Windows 2008 r2 on my P4500 G2, I also have no clue how to get into the units BIOS.
How do I boot from a DVD to install Windows Server?
How do you configure the RAID containers?
Thanks a ton, Lions240

Even if you had the receipt you couldn't get your money back at this point. A point of clarification: when you say you stopped and restarted ipodservice.exe, Did you use the Start button or the Restart Service button?
You may need to remove iTunes, Quicktime, and all instances of ipodservice.exe and do a reinstall. When you do make sure you do not have any antivirus or antispyware running at the time as it can interfere with loading ipodservice.exe.
Finally, you may just have a hardware failure. If you do, exchange it here:

  • Xserve and HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1840 SCSI

    Hi everyone,
I'm planning on buying a new Xserve (and an Xserve RAID) and using the relatively new HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1840 SCSI (external tape drive) to do backups. The specs are over here:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=120&prodSeriesId=3454484&prodTypeId=12169&objectID=c01121300
I just called EMC Insignia (was Dantz) and they say it's compatible with Retrospect for Macintosh Workgroup Edition. Now I'm a little confused at which Xserve BTO options to choose.
Is it correct that I will need to select these options?
    Slot 1: Dual-Channel U320 SCSI-Card with PCI-X-Riser
    Slot 2: Dual-Channel 4 GBit Fibre Channel-PCI-Express-Card
If I understand correctly I need the U320 card to connect the Ultrium and the Dual Fibre Channel to connect ONE Xserve RAID, am I correct?
    Thanks a lot!
    Björn

Yes, you have the right combination of cards there.
However, please rethink your choice of software.
There are numerous horror stories on these boards and others related to Retrospect in a Server environment. For some reason it just does not work, causing instability, hangs, poor performance and system crashes.
There are better alternatives including NetVault, BRU and Time Navigator, amongst others.

  • HOW TO INSTALL A HP STORAGEWORKS 1/8 G2 TAPE AUTOLOADER ULTRIUM 920.

I HAVE A SUN FIRE V250 MACHINE WITH SOLARIS 8 AND I JUST BOUGHT A HP STORAGEWORKS 1/8 TAPE AUTOLOADER ULTRIUM 920 DEVICE (SCSI). THE SUN FIRE V250 HAS A QLOGIC: QLQ10162, I INSTALLED THE CARD DRIVER AND THE OPERATING SYSTEM CAN SEE THE TAPE DEVICE CONNECTED, BUT WHEN I EXECUTE THE COMMAND:
    # mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status
    THIS MESSAGE IS SHOWED:
/dev/rmt/0: no tape loaded or drive offline
    I EXECUTED
    OK> probe-scsi-all

unit 1 Removable Medium chager HP ....
ANY IDEA TO INSTALL THIS KIND OF DEVICE IN A SPARC SOLARIS 8 MACHINE???
I WILL APRECIATE YOUR IMPORTANT HELP........

Try loading a tape into the drive manually and then run mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status Every tape drive/autoloader (STK, HP, Exabyte, ATL) I have ever used on any unix system produced the results you are seeing until a tape is manually loaded into the drive so that mt has something to act upon when
mt -f /dev/rmt/0 status command is executed.

  • HP EVA storageworks M5314

Hello people, this is my first post and I am not very good with storage arrays or SAN. I recently purchased an HP storageworks storage array, part # 344819-b21. It is a 14 bay storage enclosure, i have populated 8 fibre channel 146gb hard drives. Rest of the bays are empty. It is a preowned unit so the only other thing i got is a 2 prong cable. I have connected that cable from EVA to my rack server's fibre channel card. The setup does not seem to work. I dont have HP EVA command view 4 and the it looks like version 4 is not available. I tried version 4.1 but the setup asked for EVA command view 4. Where can i get version 4. Second question, will my setup work? Do i need any other kind of cable? I have fibre channel card in EVA and in server. How can i see the drives inmy server OS? I am running server 2008 R2.

Then the server cannot find the tape drive. Has it ever worked? Does
the BIOS detect the drive when you boot the server?

  • OSB with HP StorageWorks SDLT 320

    Hi;
I'm trying to do a tape backup using OSB to HP storageworks SDLT 320 tape Drive.
I can configure the tape, and OSB can ping it successfully.
But, when i start the backup, OSB indicates that it is waiting for the tape (Pendding hardware ...).
I think that i must mount the tape before doing backup.
If it's the case, i need a script/tool to autoload the tape drive.
    Any idea?
    Thnx

    Hi folks;
    I've resolved the problem.
I must disable the tape drive currently used by HP storageworks and let OSB install its own drive.

  • Controlling an HP MSA30 StorageWorks Array with OS X Server... Anyone?

Attempting to build an OS X Served RAID 5 storage solution with repurposed Hewlett-Packard MSA30 StorageWorks Arrays that I inherited for the job.
Does anyone have any experience driving these with an OS X Server?
The arrays have Dual U320 SCSI cards that I can access with U320 Host adapters on the OS X side, but I'm not finding any OS X-driven U320 Hardware RAID cards that might configure/control the drive arrays through the U320 channels.
Lotsa SATA RAID 5 solutions out there, but not sure how I'd get that to communicate through the U320 SCSI on the array.
    Any insight appreciated,
    dano

    Greg,
Thanks for your response. It turns out that my original fears were unfounded.
Installing the print server was very straight foward and after getting it working on one of my XP boxes I was able to install it on my MacBook using *Print & Fax* ---> *IP Printer* ---> Protocol ---> _Line Printer Daemon - LPD_ ---> Address ---> _Belkin Print Server IP Address_.
I checked to see if OS X provided a driver for my all-in-one printer (HP PSC 2175) and the following page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303057 said there was one but it wasn't available in my printer pull down list. Further research through HP revealed that other drivers could be used and fortunately there were Gimp-Print 5.0.0 beta 2's available so I used the HP 500C driver.
I also had to reserve the IP address of the print server on my wireless (Netgear) router but I left DHCP on for the rest of my devices.
The end result is that the Belkin Print Server now works across my mixed Mac and PC network. Unfortunately I'm not able to use the scanner through my Macs but this isn't an issue as my priority was to share printing. I should also mention that the Belkin manual also includes instructions for Unix/Linux and OS X, although this is not stated on the box.

  • HP StorageWorks MSA 30 And Apple MB099G/A

In my search for a low cost fast RAID set, I have come across the HP StorageWorks MSA 30, which can be had full of 15k drives for $500. I also want this RAID set to be in an Apple environment. So, I was thinking, that I could purchase one of these RAID enclosures, and connect it to an Apple MB099G/A Dual Channel Utra320 PCI-X SCSI RAID Card. Would I be able to do this? Also, the Apple SCSI card is dual channel, so it supports up to 30 drives. The MSA 30 has 14 drives, so you would think that you could connect two per card. However, The MSA has two controller cards with one output each. Could both of these outputs be daisy-chained and routed to one channel on the Apple card, so that two arrays could be connected? Thank you very much!
    -Ryan

Some of the MSA-class shelves are available for fairly low prices with a full complement of disks, if you're willing to go for disks that are somewhere between tiny and small.
The places that use these widgets are quite familiar, and have rows of full-height 19" racks, full of disks. And gonzo-scale external RAID storage controllers, using iSCSI or SCSI or FC SAN. Compared with the storage capacity of some of these behemoths, a fully-populated Xserve RAID looks kind of like a floppy disk.
This particular shelf is still around in the HP product line AFAIK, but it's very much an older piece of gear. There are much newer shelves available, and these older shelves are hitting the used-equipment market. The newer gear in the MSA series (MSA50, MSA60, MSA70) that's replacing these MSA30 widgets is typically SAS and SATA, and generally uses 2.5" disks.
All of these MSA widgets are JBOD shelves, and the expectation here involves an upstream host controller or an outboard JBOD or RAID controller. Most of these are very fast disks (15K RPM is not unusual), and the folks using these have traditionally used smaller-capacity disks and rather more of them, as the I/O speed tends to be important to these applications.
There are MSA widgets that are NOT JBOD shelves; there are controllers with the MSA nomenclature as well.
MSA30 and similar shelves can be fairly loud; they blow a whole lot of air through the shelf. These widgets are intended for installation into dedicated server rooms.
And whether these work with an Xserve with the Apple Ultra320 SCSI controller is something you'll have to try.

  • HP StorageWorks 2312sa supported with OEL or not

If anyone could help with the following it would be great!
We are implementing a new system, where we have two database servers these are HP Proliant DL360 servers, our client’s application utilises an Oracle database engine and they are requesting that we install Oracle Enterprise Linux. We have confirmed the servers are support by Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) but we have been unsuccessful confirming whether HP StorageWorks 2312sa or 2312i storage solution is supported by OEL, has anyone utilised these storage solution within a clustered OEL database environment?
I checked the validated configuration and both storage solutions are not listed!!!
But I have read some documentation which indicates that if the Storage solutions is supported by Red Hat Enterprise Linux it will work with OEL!!!
Doe's anyone have any information or put me in the right direction to confirm this?
    Thanks
    Deniz

Just curious as to whether there is any movement on this. We two are about to purchase a system that uses DL380 G6 servers and a StorageWorks 2312sa. Our client is asking that we install OEL and I'd like to know if the certification is forthcoming?

  • Interoperability issues between Nexus 5k and HP storageworks (8/20q)

    Hello community,
I am trying to get a VM host and a windows server to connect to their storage across a nexus and HP (Qlogic) fabric switch. This is currently having issues with the VM host unable to see the datastores, possibly due to interoperability between Cisco and HP (Qlogic)
I have configured and tested the connectivity using only the cisco nexus and this worked, I then tested it using only the HP fabric switch (HP 8/20q) and this also worked.
However, when using the HP and Cisco Nexus as shown in the attached diagram, things stop working.
The connection is using Native Fibre channel, On the Cisco side I performed the following steps
Configured the Nexus with Domain ID 10 and the HP with Domain ID 20.
Connected the 2 fabric switches on fc1/48 (Cisco) and port 0 (HP) and confirmed that the ISL came up (E_port 8G), I confirmed connectivity using fcping both ways.
I connected the SAN to the Nexus and the servers to the HP
    Configured VSAN 10
Added interfaces fc1/41 to 48 in VSAN 10
Created 2 zones ( ESXI and Windows)
Added the PWWN for the ESXI server and the MSA2040 to the ESXI zone
Added the PWWN for the Windows 2k8 server and MS2040 to the Windows zones
Created zoneset (Fabric-A) and added both the above zones in it
    Activated the FABRIC-A zoneset
The result is that the zones and zoneset are synchronised to the HP switch .I confirmed that I was able to see the servers and SAN WWN in the correct zones on the HP.
From the 8/20q switch I am able to fcping the SAN, Nexus and servers, however the Nexus is only able to fcping the SAN and the HP, it returns a “no response from destination”  when pinging the servers.
I have added the FCID for all the units in the same zones to see if it makes any difference to no avail the result seem to be the same. I have gone through various Nexus/MDS/HP/Qlogic user guides and forums; unfortunately I have not come across any that shows this specific topology.
source for HP user guide is here: http://h20565.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c02256394
I’m attaching the nexus config and partial view of the “show interface brief” showing the fibre channel port status
Interface  Vsan   Admin  Admin   Status          SFP    Oper  Oper   Port
                      Mode   Trunk                          Mode  Speed  Channel
                             Mode                                 (Gbps)
    fc1/47     10     auto   on      up               swl    F       8    --
    fc1/48     10     auto   on      up               swl    E       8    --
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance

Hi all, after much reading, Walter Dey provided the hint to put me on the right track.
By default the Nexus 5k is in interop mode 1. However, one of the requirement for this to be "interoperable" with other vendor the FCDomain ID in the entire fabric needs to be between 97 and 127 as stated in the Cisco website.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/storage/san_switches/mds9000/interoperability/guide/ICG_test.html
Another issue that had me and my colleague scratching our heads, was that we were seeing high level of CRC errors on the ISL interfaces. This was caused by ARBFF settings mismatch between the Nexus and the HP. This was resolved by ensuring that the ARBFF setting on the HP was set to false and the command "switchport fill-pattern ARBFF speed 8000" is configured on the ISL interface linking the 2 switches. (note that Cisco's default setting for the ports is IDLE, until this is changed the link will not stabilise)
Thanks for all your help guys.

I dont understand what the heck the "axis is out of alignment or something like that..all i replaced was the drive and i could pull up the drive info from the front lcd display like the fw ver and ser no. so i know the drive installation was a success..but now those errors ( mainly the a1-60 i cant figure out anything to do with that 1..any help or do i just need to trash it......i replaced a drive in a dell powervault 122t that looks almost identical to the hp inside and out and the dell works fine....

  • Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini?

    Hey guys and girls...
Can I install windows home server 2011 on a mac mini? If so how?

WHS is 64-bit. Genius are really not versed in Boot Camp or Windows, let alone anything not on the "approved" list of Windows versions.
Most of the problems are with burning ISO, or the SuperDrive. It should have seen the NTFS partition. Disk Utility is known to be trouble, burning it on your Mac Mine but iwth Windows 7....?
Seeing you have Windows 7, format the partition to NTFS 160GB you want and then exit and boot WHS installer.
Or run the install from Windows 7.
In past, WHS supported TimeMachine, streaming video, supported iTunes (that was broken/disabled it seems by Apple with 10.0), as well as even SuperDuper backups.
Main idea is to have some network attached drives.
    Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra2 Review
Newegg - HP StorageWorks X310 Windows Home Server
I have both a ISO and Burned it to a dvd useing windows 7 built in ISO burning software, Its a 64 bit copy (got from microsoft download website from my dads microsoft account).
It is enouth for the OS but it runs slowish on the mac mini (latest core 2 duo 2.4ghz model) The Idea was to have it backup my pc and laptop to a usb drive and act as a media centre pc (connected to av receaver and tv and on a gigabit network with a 2TB nas)
Since it looks like this may not work, whats the best way to make it into a media centure? mac osx? windows 7? plex? whats best and good?
I'd avoid USB like the plague. Why not use your PC instead? If I was going to use a Mini for WHS, I'd just use the Mini solely for Windows and not have OS X (you can boot OS X off an external drive anyway).
