HP Stream 7 with Windows 8.1 - something jams wifi

Ok, I saw the other post about sleep mode and Windows 8.1 knocking all devices offline, and I'm having similar problem, but not sure it's related to sleep mode.
I had setup my Stream 7, and hadn't updated the BIOS, so I got it working, playing with it a day or so, then updated the BIOS to F.0C(?)  (for whatever reason, I can't now get back to the list of drivers, etc. on HP's page.  Loads and gives me a blank page - what's up with that?).
Anyway, IMMEDIATELY after the BIOS update and a reboot - would NOT connect to wifi.  Rebooted a couple more times, and then found that other devices - including wired devices - could no longer connect to the internet.  Power on reset of the router fixed the problem.   I have an ASUS RT-N66U with Merlin's firmware (straight copy of source from ASUS, and he adds other Linux features like making the router a VPN endpoint, etc.)  Fairly late version too (about 3 weeks old).  Very similar to DD-WRT.
After a router reboot, the Stream 7 could connect, as well as other devices, have not had an issue since.
It's all well and good to say that it shouldn't happen to the router - and I agree - but to have a device do this is tantamount to sin.  What happens if I go to a friend's house, or a business and jam up their router?  This needs to be dealt with and fixed.  Not sure it's a Windows problem - probably much more a driver problem.

Oh - might add, I'm taking it down to 802.11 b/g, instead of b/g/n, based on the other post.
I'm going to say there's something wrong with the "n" side, especially since it seems (after some reading), that it's really only "n" on the 2.4Ghz side.  Most devices these days are "expected" to be on the 5Ghz to support the faster speeds.  So I'm going to say that I suspect there's something at odds there in that type of config attempting to use "n" with this device.

  • HP Stream 7 with Windows 8.1 - "Start Menu (Metro)" mode - closing apps problems

Ok, this is probably more of a Windows 8.1 issue, but I've noticed two things about closing apps (swipe down from top of screen):
    1.  If the app is "wider" than the display, and you scroll to the right, you CANNOT close the app unless you scroll all the way back left.
    2.  Any app that has any controls anywhere near any area of the top of the screen is extremely difficult to get it to start closing.  I have tried as many as 10-15 times for some apps to close them.  And anytime you get near those "controls" at the top - you can see you are affecting them as you slide your finger down - NOT the app.
    3.  When I have a BT mouse connected, I've noticed that putting the mouse towards the top of the screen will "pop" up something akin to the old Windows title bar, with a close button in the upper right (and a brief menu in the upper left).  This works great - but doesn't seem to work with a finger or stylus - only the mouse.  Is there a setting to change that to make it easier to close apps?
    Suggestions?

  • Slip streaming SP2 with Windows XP on a mac

All the slip streaming helps avail I've found are doing it using Windows. Can anyone help?

  • Streaming music with Windows 7

I have windows 7 and I have just received an airport express for Christmas.  All I want to do with it is stream music from my computer to my stereo.  How do I do this?  The instructions provided with the unit were inadequate.

Streaming using AirPlay requires, as a minimum, the following three things:
An iTunes server. This typically is the iTunes application. There are versions of iTunes for Windows-based PCs.
An AirPlay "speaker." This could be an AirPort Express, Apple TV, or an AirPlay-ready device.
    A wired or wireless network.
In your case you would need to install iTunes on your PC, if you don't already have it. You would also need to use the appropriate audio cable between the audio port on the Express and your stereo.

    Hi,
I'm on a simple LAN composed by cisco 3560G and 3750G switches. On one of my switches, i've connected a windows media server that stream tv in unicast and multicast mode.
When i run the http://myserver/mystream.nsc generated by the server on the current server, it's working, i can see my stream. The problem is in the stations, i'm unable to see it.
I've activated IGMP Snooping on each switchs.

As WMP is not a DVD player, my suggestion would be to tell your clients to never use WMP.All our DVD discs go out with a warning not to allow WMP to be used.
In most computer setups, WMP does not play back video correctly as it does not have an MPEG codec installed, or has navigational problems.
All computers that have a DVD drive fitted, will have a dedicated DVD software player installed, such as Win DVD or Power DVD, so why not use that?

  • Fireworks CS4 doesn't install with Windows 7 RTM

I have installed Adobe Master Suite into Windows 7 RTM without any problems.. but I have attempted many times to install Fireworks CS4 but it stalls while doing the initial system check at 90% done. I have set the 'setup' file to Vista compatibility with administrative mode... still stalls... Does anyone know if it's something with a real incompatiblity with Window 7 or something that I'm not doing (or missing)...
Any help would sure be appreciated.  (the client is getting pretty cranky now.... )

You say "Someone got it to install: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/451119?tstart=90 ".. I mentioned that the problem is with CS4  not with CS3... also the operatiing system stated here is the RTM ("Release To Market") and not the Beta..
I have downloaded all of the trial applications from Adobe and all installed perfectly with the exception of Firefox. This leads me to the assumption that the problem is with the application and not the operating system.
Back to the original post... has anyone managed to install Firefox CS4 using Windows 7 RTM or later ???
    Thanks for reading this post...

I have a PC with Windows Vista but I cannot find my photo stream anywhere. I followed the directions on the FAQ but it led me nowhere. What do I do?

Well I linked to an article produced and hosted by Apple so I suppose if they have an issue with it the would have to spank themselves
In addition the US Supreme Court has ruled that making a copy of a DVD for personal use or as a backup is perfectly legal, we've been doing that with CDs for as long as it has been possible, same for video tapes.
What is illegal is breaking any DRM protection on the media (this holds true for all media not just DVDs) and actually even this is a bit murky. What is definitely illegal is to sell software to break DRM.  However if you write your own DRM breaking software and use it to make personal copies or backups the law gets real gray.
So again as long as there is no DRM involved its OK, with DRM you're best to leave it alone.
    regards

  • HP Wireless Audio streamer with Windows 8.1 (64 bit) on pc

I am running windows 8.1 (64 bit) on my laptop and recently purchased the HP Wireless Audio streamer. I was unable to install the software off the disc  as it is not compatible with Windows 8.1.  Any solutions? Please keep it simple as I am a rather lowtech person. Thanks.

2011 MacBook Pro, 64 bit i7 quad core, upgraded to Lion OSx, Bootcamp installed with Windows 7, wanting to install Windows 8 (don't ask), tried downloading/installing bootcamp 5.0.5033 (both on the mac/windows partitions (actually using a parallel to run Windows)), error message something similar to bootcamp doesn't support this Windows
So the question is am I doing something wrong? Should I just try and install windows 8 through my windows 7 partition and see if I can use the bootcamp 5.05033. Or do I solely have to use the bootcamp to install Windows 8? I'm not too familiar with bootcamp and how it runs.

if you're using parallels and full bootcamp then you're making it 100% more troublesome for youself then it needs to be
bootcamp is running windows directly on the hardware this give full memory and cpu and 3d video game power
running windows in parallels is running a virtual machine where one can't run powerful games and the like but one can have it in a window and change fast between osx and windows
parallels as the only virutal machine (as far as I know) support not have the operating system as a file on the osx harddisk but can access a bootcamp parition as virtual machine but without the benefits bootcamps provides
it's a service parallels provide for those who want both to play games in normal bootcamp and sometimes use windows in a virutal machine
just install it like a normal virtual machine and you need not worry about bootcamp drivers and the likes
plus it would mean that the windows part would be a part of the timemachine bacup of osx
which it is not when it's in bootcamp

I have photoshop CS 4 extended.  Just recently I purchased a Canon 70D as well as a Dell 17 Inspiron with windows 7.  When I download my pictures from my camera to the computer, they will not open up in raw, only jpeg.  I contacted Canon, and they told my to try something but it did not work.  How do I get my raw pictures to open up in CS 4 on my new computer from my new Canon 70D?

You will never be able to open your raw files from your new camera in CS4.
You need version 8.7.1 of the Camera Raw plug-in (ACR), which only runs in CS6 and higher.
You need to locate, download, install and run the free, stand-alone application Adobe DNG Converter on each batch of raw files from that camera, in order to convert them to raw DNG files that can be subsequently opened by ACR in CS4.
Remember you need to launch and run the DNG Converter on each folder (not files) containing your Canon raw files.  THe DNG Converter doesn't do it magically for you just sitting on your HD.
    Or you can upgrade.

  • Premiere Elements cause problems with Windows Media Center while streaming to TV.

I was having the following problem:
The audio from the streaming process of a recorded TV show on my HP computer to the remote receivers, a Sony Blu-ray player and/or a Sony Streaming Player, results in the loss of audio signal at exactly 30 seconds from the beginning on either devices. The video continues on as normal.
A user on the Windows 7 forum had the following possible cause and solution.  His response was as follows:
I "solved" my issue, at least partially. Turns out for me a codec installed by Adobe Premiere Elements for audio (Main Concept) was causing mfpmp.exe to fail (you should see it getting an appcrash in the event log two or three times as soon as you start playing the media remotely.) This program is used by microsoft for DRM. I went through and one by one remained the various attached (non-microsoft) modules until i found the one that caused the appcrash. I haven't fully figured out if Elements is now negatively effected, but that's for a different forum.
I tried the quick fix by un-installing Adobe Premiere Elements.  The uninstall solved my problem with Windows Media Center, but I want to re-install the software but I do not want to recreate the problem with Windows Media Center.
Is there another solution for this problem?

I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and the above mention problem reoccured.  With a little detective work I was able to determine that the file causing my problem was "mc_dec_dd_ds.ax".  I am not sure what this does to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 since I removed (renamed) the offending file.  A strange side affect, renaming the file did cause an increase volume. Strange.

  • Photo Stream not syncing with Windows 7

Photo stream seems to be having trouble syncing with certain Windows machines. Mine is having the same problem. I was having trouble getting photos from the stream to my Windows 7 machine so I tried to uninstall and reinstall the iCloud control panel 2.0. Seemed to fix the problem until next reboot then it stopped syncing again.
Have seen numerous posts about this but no fix or attention. Since Apple support is pretty much non-existant with this topic, figured I would add another post about the problem in hopes someone at Apple would see this and look into it.

First make sure iCloud and Photo Stream are installed on your PC. Connect the iPad (or iPhone) to your PC with the USB cable and start iTunes on your PC. Once your iPad/iPhone shows up under "Devices" in the sidebar (which you may have to enable), click it. Then click "Photos" at the top of the iTunes screen on your PC. Check the "Sync Photos from" box, and then under that, click "Selected folders." (Ignore the pulldown menu to the right of "Sync Photos from" -- the important thing is to tick "Selected folders.")  A pane should open up below that with a list of folders including "Photo Stream." Choose that and then at the bottom of the screen click Sync. This worked for my Windows 7 box.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Found a fix for "Photo Stream NOT synchronizing with Windows"

After doing so much research, and fiddling around with everything. To those people that are having issues with synchronizing Photo Stream with Windows. After downloading the iCloud, install the program, and open iCloud Control Panel. Once you open up and enable Photo Stream, this is the solution. TAKE A PICTURE OF ANYTHING. Once you do that open up the folder, and you'll notice that the pictures are starting to appear.

First make sure iCloud and Photo Stream are installed on your PC. Connect the iPad (or iPhone) to your PC with the USB cable and start iTunes on your PC.
