HP Stream can't detect home wifi

I got a new HP Stream 7 and it was able to detect and connect to my home wifi network for the first 2 days. However, on the third day, the device was suddenly unable to detect my home wifi network. It can still detect neighbouring wifi network connections and other connections that are distances away. I tried to set up a manual wifi connection, even selecting the option of connecting even if the wifi name doesn't show up. I'm sure the problem doesn't lie with my wifi router as other devices such as my laptop and smartphone can still connect smoothly. I also went about resetting the tablet to factory mode several times but the problem still remains. Can anyone advise on this?

Just had this problem too.
Change you modems wifi channel so that it's on a channel between 1 and 11.  The Stream tablets don't see channels 12 and 13 for some reason.

  • Apple TV 2G can't detect any wifi network. Any solution to this? I would rather not use a cable due the distance to my modem is too far... thanks

My 2G ATv recently can't detect any wifi connection... Tried restoring and updating but no joy... anyone has a solution to this? I would rather not use a cable.

Your AppleTV should not be looking for any wifi, It should be looking for your wifi. What kind of wifi router do you have and how far is it from your AppleTV?

  • Macbook air not detecting home wifi but detecting all other networks in vicinity. Other devices are able to connect to home network.

I have had this problem since yesterday. My macbook air is not detecting the home wifi network it used to be connected to. A manual addition of the network is also not working. I also tried using network utility which gives the details of all networks available and their details, but the home network does not feature there.
However, my iPhone is able to connect to the home wifi without a glitch. I am right now using a mobile data card to access internet, but need to get back to the home network.
I found various users posting the same problem online, but am yet to find a conclusive problem. Here are two threads on apple support which are similar to my case.

    Please help!

It was not working for me either and I spent a day looking at things other people did when they had similar problems. Never could find a conclusive response and what has been suggested here was always almost the only thing mentioned. I wish you luck and hopefully someone can actually point out the one true thing that is doing this!
This is the exact sequence of events: I switched off the main supply to the house when I was going out, and when I came back this problem occurred. I was searching desperately online and just when I had given up, I decided to switch mains off and then back on. It picked up the wifi, and has been working since. This was a shocker and mostly a coincidence. Wont hurt to try.

  • My macbook can't find home wifi

My macbook air can't find the home wifi. It can, however, find the neighbours' wifis. The home wifi is working fine with my other laptop and iphone so the wlan router is working.
I can't add the network by manually entering its name (says "no network found")
This happened suddenly without any changes to my computer or the wifi settings.
My computer is a 1-year old macbook air. I haven't found any threads with a real, working solution for this issue so any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

And unfortunately no, neither option works.
    Thanks
Many people do not power cycle their routers when having wifi issues.
When attempting to get help here or on any forum always include everything you have attempted to solve the issue and never assume anybody knows what you have or haven't done unless it is explicitly stated.
    Next troubleshooting steps:
    - Network Preferences > Advanced
      Delete all preferred networks, restart
    - Change your router's wifi channel to a channel > 5 from the one in current use

  • Can't see home wifi network

Today, I found that I could no longer see or sign on my home wifi network. Just my network; I can see my neighbors' wifi networks just fine (and connect on the unlocked ones).
I tried resetting the router and unplugging/replugging it multiple times, and also setting it up again via a pc. It is a secured network with a WEP password.
Weird thing is, my roommate who has a pc is having no problem seeing and getting on the network.
Did I mess up some network settings on my mac? I just switched to a mac about a year ago, so I'm pretty new at navigating through the settings.

Glad you got it working again, though I don't understand why resetting via the Mac worked when doing it via the PC hadn't. Another thing to add to the long list of things I don't understand I was sitting at my Mac trying to work out a list of debugging steps for you when your post came in, so I am delighted you let us know.

  • MBA no longer detects home wifi

    Hi!
I've had my MBA for a few months and always used it at home with no issue. Recently my housemate forgot to pay our internet bill and our connection was cut. Now my MBA won't pick up my wifi, but my housemates pc can use it. Iv reset the router and updated its firmware etc but still no luck!
I can use wifi in college and also via ethernet, I just can't find my home network!! any suggestions??
    Thanks!!

I am confused. Last night I was able to connect to my network, and three machines on the network, but not out to the internet. Airport would only assign itself an internal IP 169.xxx. I just got home, opened MBA, and today my TCP/IP is configured from the router with an IP of 10.0.11, and back to normal operation. This was the second time that I lost connection to the internet, but not to the network, and all other machines on the network connecting fine.

  • HT204409 My ipad2 can't detect to wifi.

After trying to restore my ipad on itune, it told me to turn off Find My iPad on iCloud but I couldn't turn it on because I can't connect to my Wifi. Do you know how to fix that problems?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netwhttp://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • My ipad 2 can see my home wifi but I can't connect to the internet anymore ???

I can connect my Ipad to the encrypted network at home - but I can't connect to the internet anymore.  In Safari, Itunes, email .... NOTHING ! Help pls.

You may not really be connected to your WiFi network.
Your router may not have given your iPad a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPad (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • Can't connect Home Wifi

I am unable to connect my new iPod Touch 2nd Gen to my home network. It connects fine on other networks but not mine. My router is a Linksys WRT54GS version 6. When searching for my network, it appears and I enter the key. It takes about 10 minutes for it to get the IP Address and Subnet mask but it never gets further. The network is protected with WPA Personal TKIP if that is any help. Is there anything wrong with my network? Any tips would be great!
    Thanks

    Hi Guys,
    Really hoping you can help.
I spent a lot of time trying to connect my son's new Touch (2nd Gen 16g) to our home wireless network, but having a few problems.
I'm using a dlink DAP-1150 access point. Currently has Toshiba laptop with vista connected using WPA Personal security.
On iPod I can see secured network Ok. After a few attempts at entering the really long passphrase (both in lower & uppercase), I took security off the DAP1150, & it now worked.
Prob is I don't want to leave that way. So I tried again with WPA changing passphrase to something easier...stll no luck.
Tried other types WPA 2 & enterprise - always getting message that password is wrong.
Finally tried WEP & it worked...GREAT (I thought)
Now Laptop can't be connected using this.
So now I have problem, reverted back to WPA security & laptop is Ok.
But still can;t get Touch to connect.
I thought of getting another access point, one on WPA & one WEP but seems extreme.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

  • IMac (on Ethernet) Can No Longer Stream to Airport Express (on WiFi)

After years of reliable service, all of a sudden I cannot stream music from iTunes on my iMac, via my Airport Express, to my stereo system.
First, a bit about my configuration:
       * iMac connected via Ethernet to a wireless router (D-Link DIR-655).
       * iMac Airport (WiFi) is turned off.
       * D-Link sets up a wireless network, and Airport Express joins the network.
       * Airport Express does not set up its own network, it's simply a client of the existing D-Link wireless network.
       * iTunes "sees" the Airport Express, and can stream audio via AirPlay.
       * iPad also joins the wireless network, and also can stream to the Airport Express via AirPlay.
       * iMac running 10.6.8, with all software updates applied.
       * Airport Express running latest firmware (7.6.1).
Well, that was a few days ago, when "it just worked". But for some unknown reason iTunes could no longer "see" the Airport Express.
So I took my Airport Express to the Apple Store and they did a Factory Reset, but it did not solve the problem. I figured my rather old Airport Express was failing, so today I bought a new one. The symptoms have changed a bit, but even after spending an hour on the phone with AppleCare, it doesn't work properly.
Now, the only way the iMac can stream to the Airport Express is if the iMac also joins the wireless network. In fact, now with Airport turned OFF on the iMac, the Airport Utility cannot see the Airport Express. But here's another weird thing: when I use the IP address of the Airport Express, the Airport Utility CAN connect with and manage the Airport Express, even with Airport turned OFF on the iMac!
I should also mention, the iPad has no issues whatsoever connecting to the D-Link's wireless network and streaming music to the Airport Express.
This all seems like something might have changed on the D-Link wireless router. But for the life of me, I cannot figure out what setting(s) on the router might allow the iMac - over Ethernet - to stream audio to the Airport Express.
Another thing. When I have Airport turned on on the iMac, it can "see" and stream to the Airport Express, but the music has very frequent drop-outs. Could this be related to the fact that the iMac has two IP addresses (one on Ethernet, one on WiFi)?
My goal is to get things "back to normal", where I can turn off Airport on the iMac, and all LAN and WAN traffic from the iMac goes over Ethernet. I have a few questions (for now :-)
       * Since my iMac has two connections to my LAN using two IP addresses (Ethernet & WiFi), is that likely to cause any issues?
       * When two computers join the same wireless LAN, can they effectively talk directly to one another, or does the wireless router need to be involved every time one computer sends a TCP or UDP packet to the other?
       * Do routers (or the DIR-655 in particular) tend to have any firewalls or policies that control connections on the LAN between Ethernet and WiFi clients?
       * Since AirPlay uses TCP port 3689 and UDP port 5353, would the DIR-655 need any special configuration to "open these ports" so an Ethernet client can connect with a WiFi client?
So, any help would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Jim

I am having a very similar issue.  I use my Airport Express (AX) to stream music from the computers on my network to my stereo via Airplay.  I have AX set up to wirelessly join my existing wireless network, which uses a D-Link DIR-655 router hooked to a Time Warner cable modem.  I can succesfully connect all of my wireless devices via Airplay, through iTunes to my AX, including two laptops and an iPhone.  However, my primary desktop PC, which does not have a wireless card is linked directly via ethernet cable to my D-Link router, and it is not able to see my AX.  Similar to your case, I can see the Airport Express from my PC through my Airport Utility by directly typing in the IP address.  Note that the  AX set-up option to allow Ethernet clients is checked.  I also noticed that my laptops will stop detecting AX if I directly connect them to my D-Link router via Ethernet and turn off their wireless cards.  They will resume detecting AX when I turn their wireless connections back on.  I have tried every conceivable setting of my D-Link router to no avail.

  • IPod Touch 4g can't detect or connect to wifi

I just got a brand new iPod touch 4g for Christmas and have used it without incident until today. I have connected to several wifi networks, including my secured network at home and open networks at my university and elsewhere. However, as of this morning, it no longer even detects networks, it simply seems to indicate that there are no networks nearby. I tried this morning at school, even tried to type in the network's name but it didn't work. Then I tried at the Amtrak station and it didn't work. Now, I'm at home and I KNOW my wifi is working, since the computer I am typing this message with is connected. But my iPod still won't detect any wifi or connect when I type in the network name. How do I fix it?

I have this same problem. I thought it was the digitizer. New one was put on at a repair shop and still nothing. They said no sign of water damage or dust. Their diagnosis was that it probably is the motherboard is bad. I hate it... I can't back up my music that is on there.
    Very sad.

  • My macbook air will not detect my home wifi anymore!

    In Summary:
Macbook air used to work perfectly on home wifi
Wifi dropped one day and all devises lost connection but when the wifi was fixed the MBA wouldn't detect it anymore even though all other devises did
MBA still works on all other wifi networks
How can I get my MBA to detect the home wifi again / why won't they link anymore?
My home wifi (Sky is the provider) dropped one day because the lines went down but after it was fixed the macbook air (2012) stopped detecting it..
The macbook will detect any other wifi network (office, public, friends houses etc) and works perfectly but will not even pick up the home wifi.
This is particularly confusing because all other devises including iphones, laptops, tablets etc will detect my home wifi without a problem.
The only time it has connected to the home wifi since dropping is when my laptop picked up my neighbour's wifi (which is rare where i live as houses are far apart) and then my home wifi showed up and worked perfectly until i closed the MBA and it wouldnt pick it up again
I have been without internet in my house for c. 6 weeks now even though the laptop appears to work ok on other networks and the home wifi works perfectly with other devices
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Go to System Preferences > Network. Select Wi-Fi or AirPort from the left column. Click the Advanced... button.
Under the Preferred Networks list, select every Wi-Fi network that appears, including the one(s) you want to use, and delete every one using the "–" (minus) button. Select the box "Remember networks this computer has joined" if it is not already selected.
    OK then Apply.
Select your wireless network in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu and provide your wireless network password. Be sure the network you select is yours and not someone else's.

  • IMac is not detecting my home wifi

    Hello everyone,
My home wifi have been working great for many many yrs. I have 3 iPads, 2 MBP, 1 iMac and 2 iPhones in this home and all are connected to my wifi with absolutely no problem.
Today I restarted my iMac and suddenly my iMac can no longer detect my wifi. When everything else at home is able with no problems. I have restarted the iMac a few times. Any ideas?
    Joanne

So this is what is happening to my iphone.
Before iCloud, it has always been just mobileme or my iMac synching my contacts and I never had problems with it.
The iCloud came and we all have to agree its handy to have. But I noticed that everytime when I add a new contact to my iphone, iCloud gets the new contact but when I sync with my iMac, my iMac (Address Book) doesnt get that copy. I didn't know about this at all.
I usually do spring cleaning of my contact every few months and it is a lot easier to do on my desktop than on my iphone. So while I was going through my contacts on my desktop, I noticed some numbers were wrongly placed like, it is under "work" instead of "mobile" so I will get that corrected and also delete some contacts I no longer need. While doing this, I notice that some new numbers I added on my iphone wasnt on my address book in my desktop. Then I tried synching and noticed that whatever correction I did on my desktop wasn't going into my iphone as well. Thats when I realized that my iMac and my iphone's address book is no longer talking to each other. And when I look at my address book on my iphone properly, I am seeing that "unified contacts" and its combining all numbers and contacts. So under a friend's name, I would have 2 mobile numbers and 2 home numbers which are exactly the same respectively.
    Hope that made sense.
I just want all these 3 locations, when I add or edit a contact, to be the same. Can this be done and if not, why the **** not? Why would they want to make them all different? Isn't Apple a lot better than this. This is the first time I see the eco system so badly turned out.
PS: should I have put all these in the other thread?
    Joanne

  • MacBook can't detect WiFi

    Dear forum members,
I know that this problem is discussed in several other threads and also on other fora. However, the WiFi-problems vary in such a way that I cannot completely relate to them.
    The problem:
My macbook cannot detect our own WiFi network. It can detect other WiFi networks.
The strange thing is: we have one Windows laptop, 2 Iphones and 1 Ipad which all 'see' and connect to our WiFi network.
    Some specifications:
    - In a desperate attempt to fix the problem I have erased the HD and did a fresh installation of Lion OS. The same problems still occurs. (please no discussion on whether a fresh install is necessary on Mac's)
    - The laptop has been connecting to the same WiFi for almost a year without any problems.
    - Nothing apparent has happened in our home network that I can think of.
    - It concerns a macbook from 2008 with a fresh Lion OS installed on it.
    - The WiFi network is WPA2 protected.
    - The laptop is able to connect to our router by using a normal cable.
I am Dutch, so my apologies in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes.
Edit: sometimes the WiFi is visible but when I try to connect, a time out error occurs.
    Michel

I don't have any solution but you may get a better response on the wireless community.
