HP Stream tablet 8 (windows 8) slow wifi

wifi download speed decreases rapidly with distance from router-more than smart phone and laptop-even though I still get signal. Even worse when bluetooth is used to connect physical keyboard. Is there a fix? Could something else also be draining wifi? I tried a Cisco usb adapter that works well with my desktop, but it didn't help with this device. Any suggestions?

  • Windows 10 fresh installation on the HP Stream tablet

I performed a fresh installation of Windows 10 on my Stream 7 tablet and it worked well. I posted the procedures I used below in case it may be able to help someone. One warning is that you have to first upgrade the original Windows 8.1 with Bing installation in-place letting Windows 10 activate before wiping the disk clean and installing Windows 10 fresh. If you do not do this, Windows 10 will not activate when it is installed fresh. If Windows 10 tells you that you do not have enough room to upgrade, you may have to restore the tablet back to the factory configuration using the recovery media. Other reports indicate you can also complete the upgrade by pointing to an external drive. If you recover, you will not need to apply any Windows 8.1 updates after the recovery, you can update to Windows 10 directly from the USB immediately after the tablet is restored to the factory configuration. First make a recovery USB of your existing Windows 8.1 with Bing installation. Download the Windows 10 32-bit ISO file and burn it to a USB drive. Updating Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on the HP Stream Tablet
    - With Windows 8.1 running, start the setup program from the Windows 10 USB drive.
    - When it prompts "Get Important Updates?" select "Not Right Now".
    - Accept the license agreement
    - When it prompted me to "Change What To Keep" I selected "Nothing".
    - Click the Install button, the upgrade took 30 minutes on my Stream 7.
    - When the upgrade finishes, add a WiFi connection and go to the Start button => System and make sure it says "Windows is Activated". You can stop here if you have enough disk space and do not want to do the fresh install. The 5.2 GB Recovery partition from Windows 8.1 can also be deleted now since Windows 10 creates its own 450 MB recovery partition for WIMBoot. Unfortunately it seems the C: drive cannot be extended to include the 5.2 GB of space so an additional drive letter (such as "D:") will need to be created to utilize it. Deleting the 5.2 GB Windows 8.1 recovery partition (only do this if have upgraded to Windows 10)
    - Attach a OTG adapter, powered USB hub, USB drive containing the 32-bit Windows 10 ISO, mouse and keyboard.
    - Press F9 on the keyboard as the tablet powers up to enter the boot menu.
    - Select the USB drive to boot from.
    - Select "Install Now"
    - Select "skip product key"
    - Accept the license terms
    - Select: "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)"
    - Delete the Drive 0 Partition 5: IMAGES 5.2 GB Recovery partition.
    - Do not delete the Drive 0 Partition 4 450 MB Recovery partition, Windows 10 created this for WIMBoot and it will not boot without it. If you want to do a fresh Windows 10 install, you can also wipe the drive completely clean at this point. This will provide the greatest amount of available disk space for the C: drive (21.1 GB free of 28.5 GB following the fresh install). Fresh installation of Windows 10 on the HP Stream tablet
    - Make sure Windows 10 has already been upgraded from Windows 8.1 and is activated.
    - Attach a OTG adapter, powered USB hub, USB drive containing the 32-bit Windows 10 ISO, mouse and keyboard.
    - Press F9 on the keyboard as the tablet powers up to enter the boot menu.
    - Select the USB drive to boot from.
    - Select "Install Now"
    - Select "skip product key"
    - Accept the license terms
    - Select: "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)"
    - Delete all partitions
    - Click the Next button, the install will take around 30 minutes.
    - When prompted for a product key, select "do this later".
    - Add a WiFi connection.
    - Answer the prompts about sending data to Microsoft, I answered no to all of these.
    - For some unknown reason, I was prompted to repeat the above two or three steps again here.
    - When Windows boots for the first time, right click the Start Button => System and check that it says "Windows is Activated". The RTL8723BS WiFi driver is already installed after a fresh installation but the other five drivers needed for the Stream 7, (Driver Pack, Bluetooth, Realtek audio, Goodix touchscreen and Kionix motion sensor) have to be installed from the Windows 8.1 drivers available from hp.com. The Stream 8 may have additional drivers needed.  The drivers site on hp.com for the Stream tablet has been going up and down periodically since the tablet was introduced so you might want to download the dirvers first and copy them to the Windows 10 USB before attempting the installation.

Hve you had any problems with the side swipe gestures to open app switcher and action center after installing the Goodix drivers? After upgrading to Windows 10, everything worked great, but after a system reset, I have not been able to get the side swipe gestures and the start button to work at the same time. After the reset is finnished and before installing any HP drivers, side swipe gestures works without problems, but the start button is disabled. Then I installed all Windows 10 drivers from HP.com, except the Googix-driver. Nothing changes. After I install the goodix driver, the start button is working, but side swipe gestures no loger works.I have tried to reset the device several times, with the same result each time.

  • Slow wifi - windows 7 on imac

    Hi!
Im having slow wifi when I use windows 7 (bootcamp) on my new imac 27 late 2012.
When I use OS X I get 23-24mbits down and 4,9mbit/s up on my 25/5mbis/s connection. When using Windows 7 I get only 2mbit/s down but upload is fine. My macbook pro, stationary pc and all other devices using the same wifi connection is also fine. Wireless signal comes from AirPort Extreme base station (updated software). I noticed the problem when playing games in windows and got lagging both ingame and over mumble voice. Same problem when I connect cable directly from base station to my imac.
I have reinstalled drivers using both broadcom and windows drivers. Tried changing wireless channels on Airport base station, no change. There is no other detectable wireless networks nearby, thinking it could interfer with the signal. And as I said it works fine when I boot into OS X.
    Please help =)

think you will find you will get much much more responses in the bootcamp forum

On my iphone 5 , i m facing slow wifi issue. Ios 6.0.2 didnt resloved it.any one please told me ios 6.1 fixed this issue or not b/c i m right now not in a mood to install the ios 6 .

It seems that people experience slow wifi on iphone with IOS 6 under slightly different circumstances.
Some have slow/choppy video streaming, some have problems with large dropbox files, some with app store and some with podcasts.
    Which is your problem AdeelRasheed?
Me personally, I have download speed when on wifi.
    But only when downloading podcasts...
    Running 6.0.1 or 6.1 on iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
On WIFI I can download a 45 mb app from the appstore in less than a minute. I can stream Youtube and Netflix with no problems. Internet browsing - no problems.
But downloading podcasts with Instacast 3, Downcast or the Apple Podcast app happens at a rate of 20-80 kb/s when on WIFI. As soon as I switch to 3g ( 4g/LTE is not yet available from my local provider) my download speed goes to between 300kb/s and 2 mb/s.
    Anyone else have this problem?

  • Stream 7 and Windows with Bing window sizing on desktop

I really like the HP Stream 7 but the Windows 8.1 with Bing version of windows has a really irritating behavior on the small tablets it won't keep the size and position settings of many applications on the desktop. IE always opens full screen same with Windows Explorer and if you resize or position it the next time you open it it is back to full screen. This is the same behavior on the Streak 7, Toshiba Encore Mini or Encore 2 8 inch, Insignia 8 inch and may be the behavior of all the smaller tablets with Windows with Bing. The Toshiba Encore 2 10 inch behaves normally maintaining the window settings between launches, as did the 8 inch tablets running Windows 8.0 and 8.1 versions prior to Windows with Bing.
Can anyone suggest how to correct this on the small tablets with Windows with Bing

    jeffmdaemon wrote:
You are not wrong, a simple file explorer test resulted in my desktop remembering the windowed position instantly, while my tablet full screened itself every single time. Windows may tell itself to function a little differently as a tablet, the far majority of people would prefer windows to open maximised on a small tablet screen. In your case, the only reason you want it not to is because you are using a case that is not designed (or badly designed) for the stream 7.
I haven't found any reasonably affordable cases for the Stream 7 that offer full access to the screen there will probably be cases in the future that will.   I also picked up an toshiba encore 2 8 and that has a case that offers a fully exposed screen the Windows with Bing behavior is less of an annoyance but still an issue.   This is not so much an HP, Toshiba or any manufacture issue as a Microsoft error.  8 and 10 inch tablets with Windows 8.0 and 8.1 didn't behave this way.  I would like to find a "switch/setting" to correct this.  I use my Windows tablets more then half the time in desktop mode and it is a pain to have the new version of the OS take a step backward in usability I can't remember the version of Windows that didn't support size/position retention,  Win 3?.
Just checked Amazon and they now have a couple cases that provide full screen access so I ordered one.
But that still leaves me looking for the setting that makes the Windows with Bing tablets behave like the tablets with other versions of Windows 8.1 with respect to retaining window size and aspect

  • Slow wifi speeds ipad 4th generation

I have a MacBook Pro and an iPhone which are getting the best speeds possible for them. My router is a virgin super hub which I know are notoriously pants but I've tweaked all the settings and got it running fine. Ipad download speeds are never better than 16mb/s and I have a 60mb/s download.  Is this a hardware issue or is there something I can do?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Tablets running Windows 8/8.1

    Good Evening ,
Pls let me know if ADE is compatible with tablets running Windows 8/8.1 such as Nokia Lumia 8/8.1 or Toshiba Encore. If not , are there any apps to read e-books , e-pub or pdf books with these devices ??
    Thank you .

    Note: Cross-posting this from http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfeplat/archive/2014/07/28/how-to-use-the-same-external-ethernet-adapter-for-multiple-sccm-osd.aspx
I've tried re-creating the 'Apply Wireless Profile' step and adding it to the Task Sequence with no success. After the step has finished I would think the 'Setup Windows and Configuration Manager' step would be able to run as if it were connected to wifi
with access to the DC/SCCM servers. However, in our enviroment at least the computer must first be domain joined, so that would mean it would need to connect to wifi prior to the step 'Apply Network Settings.'
Much like the original poster, I would like to eliminate the necessity of USB adapters/dongles/etc and treat the wireless as a working network medium. In the PE environment the step 'Apply Wireless Profile' does not appear to make the device running connect
to Wifi so it would seem like it would be necessary to add an additional step to connect to the wireless network. per Microsoft netsh wlan connect is it
necessary to connect to the wifi in the PE environment or should it connect automatically?

  • IPad Air slow WiFi connection

I'm having WiFi connection speed problem with new iPad Air and Airport-extreme 802.11ac.
I can get over 30Mbps download speed with old iPad2 but with new iPad Air, I get only 7 or 8Mbps.
I saw https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5516013 (Slow WiFi on the new iPad Air). He solve the problem by changing the Channel Bandwidth settings on the router but not such setting on airport-extreme 802.11ac.

I have had the same issue but it has not been fixed by renaming the 5Ghz network. We have two iPad Air connected to HH5.  I have manged to reproduce the issue described where wifi crashes if streaming and downloading. I can also reproduce on both iPads. Other devices including an iPad2 work fine.
I have even turned off the 2.4GHz and was able to reproduce the issue.
It would be good if others could also repeat the following test.
    1. Connect Ipad Air to 5GHz wifi band
    2. Stream from bbc iplayer - live channel
    3. Download a large app such as Pages / Numbers / Garageband.
Pretty much everytime the wifi crashes. Without downloading apps I can stream without error. Also no issue seen on the 2.4Ghz band.
Apple have asked me to visit Apple store to try and reproduce on their network so hopefully this will prove if it is the iPad or HH5 at fault.

  • Slow WiFi transmission and low signal power (Airport Extreme extended by Airport Express)

I am experiencing slow wifi transmission between my notebooks and my base stations and I am hoping someone can help me fix it.
My wifi configuration is the following:
1 Airport Extreme base station (acting as router, wifi "creator" and DHCP server)
1 Airport Express base station (connected to Airport Extreme with a LAN cable, set up to extend wireless network)
1 Lenovo T410 notebook with Intel Centrino Ultimate N-6300 AGN WiFi antenna (I will call this one "Lenovo"), connected to wireless network, running Windows 7
1 MacBook Pro purchased in 2009 (I will call this one "Mac"), connected to wireless network, running Mac OS X Lion
1 QNAP T209-II NAS, connected to Airport Extreme via UTP cable
Airport Extreme (AXTRM) is creating a 802.11n wireless network with WPA2+PSK security with MAC address filtering. The other base station, Airport Express (AXPRS) is connected to AXTRM via a UTP cable. AXPRS is set to extend my wireless network.
My first problem is low signal power. My appartment is 90m2 in size and is in one floor. It is a new flat with high ceiling and modern layout, meaning little walls, big rooms and wide corridors. Still my notebooks, iPhones and iPad can barely reach AXTRM when I am on the other side of the flat. This was the reason why I purchased AXPRS and placed it in the middle of the appartment. My notebooks are placed just on the other side of the AXPRS's wall (less than 1 meter of distance and a simple 10cm brick wall in between), yet signal strength is only at about 80% (measured on my Lenovo using Lenovo Access Connections tool).
My first question is: Is it normal that in a 90m2 flat with not unusual obstacles, I need 2 base stations and even then have a rather poor reception?
My second problem is even more disturbing. I think I have catastrophic transfer speeds via wLAN. It takes over 1 hour to transfer cca. 1GB of files (average size 8MB) from my Lenovo or Mac to my QNAP. My Lenovo is showing about 250kb/s transfer rate when copying files. At the same time, Windows 7 show connection speed 144Mbps. This mean about 18MB/s. I know these numbers are theoretical and that actual transfer speeds are lower. But hey, 72 times lower? Furthermore, if I copy files from my Mac and my Lenovo at the same time, transfer speed is slightly lower. On the other hand, if I connect my notebooks to AXTRM via LAN cable and copy files to QNAP, transfer speeds are a few megabytes per second.
To make things even more confusing for me: if I transfer files from the internet, I get download speed at about 700kb/s, which is quite in line with my internet download speed. I don't understand why transfer speeds within my local network are so much lower.
Therefore, my second question is: How to set up my base stations and my routers to get a decent wifi connection?
I hope someone could help me. If you need any more information, just ask. Thanks!

From my experience of setting up the Airport WiFi for family members and friends, I have learnt the following :-
    1. Airport Express is not as good as Airport Extreme, for being as extender, the difference can be quite a lot.
    2. There is always a dead cornor (bad reception) in a house
    3. Even moving the Airport Extreme / AE a few inches, the performance can be improved quite significant
    4. If possible, always choose 5G 802.11n than 2.4G, unless there are many thick walls.
My suggestion will be as follows :
    1. Moving out the AEBS out of a closet, is a good idea
    2. Always try to locate the AEBS in the centre of a area, instead of the two sides
    3. Try to test the AEBS without an extender, and find the best location area (don't place on the floor, neither above 6 feet height)
    4. After finding a best location, set the extender closer to the AEBS, and then moving apart from it (check the performance after every move), it is better that both devices can face each other.
    5. I can't tell you the reason, and some people may not agree with me, the new 2013 Airport Exteme performance is better and may be is a good idea to replace your Airport Express, and use it to connect with your router, and old AEBS as an extender
    6. Some Powerlinks (in case you can't use a wired ethernet connection between the two devices) work and some don't work with Apple Airport products, therefore, if possible, have an option to return them to the shop if they do not match
    Good luck

  • Time capsule painfully slow wifi

New time capsule , painfully slow wifi , cisco works lightning fast so the issue is with the TC. Looked at forums and I see it's a common isssue. Any ideas that actually work?

Download the free  iStumbler  app to examine the strength of your connection.
If it's not good, look for interference with another wireless device, cordless phone, microwave oven, etc.  Turn them off temporarily;  if you find an offender, move it farther away.  See  AirPort and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference  for more.
    Try different WIFI channels.

  • AirPort Time Capsule (firmware v7.7.3) has slow wifi connection to new Surface Pro 3

I got a new Surface Pro 3 i7. I have all the updates for it. I ran into a problem that many others also ran into which was very slow WiFi performance. I utilized many troubleshooting methods and sources and I am currently inclined to believe this... the new Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller drivers are not compatible with my Airport Time Capsule firmware version 7.7.3.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
Is there another firmware version that works (older or newer)?
    Details:
I tried all kinds of things, like changing the network drivers on the SP3 to many different versions. Many of the help forums recommended using the drivers dated 4/24/2014. This did seem to help, but not reliably. What I discovered is... if I connect using the SP3 WiFi to my network extension Airport Express on version 7.6.4, I reliably get 20-22 mbps (which is the best I can expect from my network and works great for my needs). But, when I connect to my primary network Airport Time Capsule, the best I can get is 1.5 mbps, but usually between .15 and .9 mbps. It's completely unusable in today's internet environment. At the same time, I used my iPhone and the Airport Utility to verify the connections.  I used SpeedTest.net on my MacBook, iPad, iPhone and Win8.1 HP laptop to verify that every other device was getting the 20+mbps. And they did.  Only the Surface Pro 3 couldn't perform when using WiFi through the Airport Time Capsule. The SP3 does achieve 20+ mbps like all my other devices, but only when connected to the Airport Express.
The articles I read said that the network drivers on the SP3 seem to require the routers to be updated to the latest versions. Both the Airport Time Capsule and the Airport Express seem to be updated. When I go into their settings using the Airport Utility, there are no updates available.
Of course this problem isn't replicated at the Microsoft store since they don't have apple routers.  So, their response is to upgrade the routers.  Extremely unhelpful when the Apple software is saying it is upgraded already. I can't believe this new Airport Time Capsule has to be retired because it isn't playing well with others, and I love the automatic backup it is providing for my MacBook. So, somehow, I need the Airport Time Capsule to work with the new WiFi card & drivers on my SP3, just like the SP3 is working properly with the Airport Express.

    Thanks for your input!
    1. No downgrade. Bummer, but understandable.
    2. Completely agree!!! I did too and then I had to redo it because I couldn't install a driver. I had to start all over and reinstall Win 8 then Win 8.1 over it. It was a colossal waste of time and endless frustration. If I can just get it modestly working, I'll take it. It doesn't have to be perfect right now.
    3.  Great suggestion! And the Microsoft forums are also a buzz. One suggestion I tried (and it seems to be working) is to set a separate wireless network name for the 5ghz band. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but I'm hopeful.  I t seems to have worked for some, but not others. The next thing I'll try is fixing the channel, but strangely, I didn't see that option in the AirPort Utility app on my iPhone. Is it only available through Mac/PC laptop/desktop software?
    4. Yup. Sigh. I actually have an old linksys. I retired it when I went 100% apple. I was hoping that things would work smoother. And they did! Until this SP3 came into my life. Arg.
And and a few more details...
the AirPort Time Capsule is 802.11ac
the AirPort Express is 802.11n (2nd gen)
I'm wondering if it is the AC connection that is the issue. Maybe since the Express always connects with n, it is OK....
Nope. Just tested the SP3 again and it is maintaining it's connection to the AirPort Time Capsule utiling the 802.11a/n/ac mode and connecting to the 5Ghz special network name. So far so good... Fingers crossed...

I have a windows 7 computer and I built a windows server using windows server 2012. I am using it mainly to store and stream movies. I have the media pack installed that would allow me to stream but when I try to steam it from the server to my laptop it
does not stream it just wants to download it. I am clicking on the file under media, and it pops up with a new window like it is about to play with the play in the middle of the screen then goes away and asks if I want to download it. I cant find an answer
out and was wondering if anyone knew what was going on. I also have a windows 8 laptop and it will stream to that just fine so I know I have the streaming set up but just dont know why it wont stream to my windows 7 computer. Any ideas?

    This one might help.
