HP Support Assistant Tune up and Health Analysis

I am becoming exasperated by regular failures reported during  the monthly HP Support Assistant Tune up or Health Analysis on my HP Pavillion Slimline Desktop.     Usually the display disappears before I can make a screen grab.     However today I managed the following:
So why is the health analysis failing?      I am not sure whether any relevant diagnostic reports are placed on my computer.     If they are produced, then I don't know where to find them.
Or is it that I have a corrupt/out-of-date version of the Support Assistant software?
Or is there some other explanation?
I'd be grateful for any illumination.     Thanks.

Brian, welcome to the forum.
I can't give you any good explanation for the problems that you are experiencing.  It is most likely a glitch in the software.  I have had problems very similar while using Windows Update.  The updates don't install for no apparent reason.
Here is the Official Website for HPSA.  I suggrest downloading and installing the lastest version.  You should uninstall the current version before beginning.  I would appreciate hearing the outcome.

  • HP Support Assistant: Tune Up: endless loop on step 2

In running the second step of Tune Up in HP Support Assistant---Microsoft Disk Defragment---the little circle goes round and round, even after a fully day, and never stops; it seems obviously 'hung up'; any suggestions on how to remedy this?

I have the exact same problem.  I have uninstalled hp support assistant, restarted and tried again but it never goes through the defrag step.  Then the next time I start hp support assistant if I look on the settings the defrag option is no longer even on the menu.  I see your question was asked in December of last year.  Has there been a resolution?  It used to work fine so I don't understand what happened.

  • HP Support Assistant not downloading and installing

Hi, I got a brand new ZBook 15 G2 a few days ago, everything seems to work OK except for the HP software that came with it, which I find both ironic and frustrating. I've tried downloading the updates and installing on two occasions, no luck. Windows Updates work fine, along with my other software's updates, so it's not my connection or internet related. No matter what I do (selecting all, just one, restarting), I keep getting the below even after it seemed to have downloaded the updates:
BTW, I think it is poor design not to show the user how much of the download has been downloaded, a progress bar doesn't cut it, one needs to see a percentage or better yet, something like "25.6 of 157 MB downloaded", preferably with the time elapsed so that you can gauge how long it's going to take. Or just give us the links to the updates so we can download it ourselves.
Is HP Support Assistant required, or can I uninstall it? At this stage it's not serving any purpose other than taking up space on my PC and annoying the hell out of me. I apologise for my negative tone, but I didn't expect to struggle with software coming from a reputable company like HP, especially after paying premium bucks for my ZBook.
    Regards,
    Will

    Hi Will,
You can either uninstall it completely from Control Panel & then reinstall to check if the problem was with the HP support assistant software version installed in your laptop:
    http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=6978815&swItemId=ob_144416_1&swEnvOid=405...
    Else from here:
    http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/pl...
    Or
Completely uninstall it, use your HP support site to get all all the latest versions of drivers & softwares.
    http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=6978815&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4059
As far as I see it, HP support assistant helps me to chat with the Technical support automatically and nothing else. For everything else I use my support page.
If you're not uninstalling it, I suggest you change the settings of it to "Notify" of any update and NOT allow it to install anything automatically.

  • HP Support assistant Tune Up Hangs up

hp pavilion P7-1026b, windows 7, hangs durin defrag, status wheel continues to turn but defrag never completes. I have let it run for over 6 hours, very little activity on the hard drive lite after the firsty 30 minutes, maybe a flash every 1.5 minutes.

    Hi,
    Try the following
First of all, uninstall your current version of HP Support Assistant by opening windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP Support Assistant and select Uninstall.  When this process has completed, restart the PC.
Next download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page.
    http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-support-assistant.html
After the installation, restart the PC again and check if the defrag routine now works correctly.

  • HP Support Assistant (Win 7 x64): Error 1316 on update/install

HP Support Assistant was running and downloaded an update for itself, which doesn't install properly. I am left with shortcuts that no longer work - HSPA.exe is missing.
I went direct to HP site, downloaded HSPA latest version, and tried to install.
I get toward the end of the instal...
    Then get this error:
    Then HSPA unintalls itself...
Then I get a final Windows error:
I have tried a System Restore, but it doesn't work (no restore point early enough).
Can you help me fix this problem?
(Unlike some other posts, I really LIKE HSPA and want to keep using it.)
I am using Win 7 Ultimate x64 on an Envy 1104-tx.
    Please help!!

Unfortunately, it doesn't fix the problem because now it won't install via Control Panel:
I select the HPSA and ask to uninstall:
I get the message that it's preparing to remove...
Then it "crashes" with the same error as before:
Now what should I do? I would really like to get HPSA working again.

  • BIOS Update failing to install via HP Support Assistant.

I have tried four times to install a BIOS update (Rom Family SSID 2AF7; Version 80.20Ap1) provided within the Support Assistant, on each occation the update fails to install. I get no error messages. The computer restarts, but the previous BIOS version (AMI 80.19 (2014-07-18)) remains installed.
I have tried stopping my antivirus program, but this didn't help. I have noticed that the command screen hangs with a flashing cursor, but no instructions are visible and then my computer restarts.
Is it possible that the update is corrupt? Any advice on how I should proceed would be welcome.

  • HP Support Assistant - Uninstalled and Reinstalled - Now it won't Work at all!

My HP Support Assistant was sticking on Creating Restore Point.   Well, I followed your instructions for this that was posted in numerous other threads and uninstalled HP Support Assistant and re-installed it, and now it won't do anything.  It opens up and the NEXT button is not highlighted so if I click on it nothing happens...it's totally worthless now.  What can I do to make it work again???  HELP!! (see image below - all I can do is minimize, enlarge or close that screen.  NEXT button does nothing!)
My computer is only 1 year old and I run Windows 8 - 64 bit.  Never had a problem with it before, but tried the Tune up and it was stuck on the restore point, so I followed your instructions, re-booted after un-installing and uninstalling, now it won't do anything.   I also tried restoring HP Support Assistant from the Recovery Manager and it's still doing the same thing - nothing.  How am I supposed to get my updates now???
    I have an HP Pavilion p6 2310.  I haven't installed Windows 8.1, it's just Windows 8.  Thank you.

  • Health analysis Locks up and doesn't complete

I was given an HP desktop, nonworking, to do with as I pleased.  Purchasing the factory disks, it appears to function normally, although I do know there are numerous bad sectors on the hard drive.  Most of these sectors are in the factory image area.
Following the posting suggestions at the top of this window:
    Model - AY018AA-ABA    P63110F
Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
    No error messages
Created a new partition from the C:\ drive, but changed nothing regarding the Image Recovery partition
When the health analysis program runs either automatically or manually, it simply hangs on step 2, Downloading updates.
There is no hard drive activity light indicating anything is being downloaded and saved to the hard drive.  Internet connection is good (I'm typing this on a different computer) as I periodically check for and install all the Windows updates.
Thinking it might be the antivirus software, Avast Free Home edition, I've turned off almost all the systems there.  No apparent change as of yet.
In the lower right corner of the Health Analysis window, there appears to be a progress bar in the lower right corner.  If that's what that field is, there is no progress showing regarding downloading any updates.  Mistakenly thinking Help and Support would answer that question, typing in "health analysis" into the search field yielded no suggestions regarding the health analysis system at all.    And there's no Help button on the analysis screen either.
Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Feel free to ask for more info.

I understand that sound has quit working after support assistant ran a few updates.
Press Windows Key + X and select device manager.  The sound card should be listed in the sound section.  What status is displayed for the sound card?
What is the status of the mute key on the notebook?  Does it have an amber light?

The sound on my dm4-2070us Pavilion notebook has stopped funcitoning after this evening's BIOS and HP Support Assistant updates.  I am running Windows 7, 64-bit.  After the update, a driver update was installed for the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.  The update installed fine and is enabled, however, I hear nothing when testing sounds on through my laptop speakers.  Any advice?  I tried rolling back the driver, but that did resolve the issue.
