HP Suspects water damage and doesn't give warranty
Hello all, I am the owner of a HP Elitebook 8570w Workstation. I was working on my laptop, closed it that night and woke up the next morning, trying to use my computer. I turned it on, and after 4 seconds it shut down. After that, the laptop never showed any signs of life. I am very upset about this, since I always treat my laptop very carefully and I would never drop it or spill a drink over it. I think it's even more noteworthy since HP is advertising this laptop that it has a spill resistant keyboard. In other words, if there ever would be water in it, it shouldn't shut down like that immediately. I am very disappointed by the approach HP took by not repairing my laptop. It's a 2200 euros workmachine beast, and they are asking 1100 euros to repair it! I hope something could be done about this, since I am a student and I can't afford to spend 1100 euro on my only workmachine that I need for my study...
Do they still have it or did they send it back to you? They will send you pictures of the suspected water damage I believe.

Do you have a backup of your contents? When the iPhone showed the screen with the USB cable and said to connect to iTunes, it had already entered the recovery mode which means all content had been erased. So you need a backup from before the water damage and problems started to get your contents back.

Hi, i recently lost my ipod nano 5th generation but i found it. It received water damage and dents on the back of it, it still works but won't hold a charge, and then there are lines on the screen, not cracks, but lines in the lcd. So i'm guessing that i need a new battery and lcd. How much would it cost for apple to repair my ipod?
No idea, but my most excellent guess would be that it would cost considerably more than it would cost you to purchase a refurbed one from the Store, around $130 the last time I looked.
You might take on the battery replacement yourself, if you'd care to. IFixIt and other sites have the gouge on how to approach that job. Don't know about the screen, though; that's something that would give me pause. -

I would be concerned too if my iPhone was not powering on. I found an article with steps you can take when you encounter an issue like this. I recommend following the steps below:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

I am looking at a MacBook pro 17 early 2011 with water damage that doesn't turn on. Now t would have a voided warranty wondered if anyone knew how much apple would charge to fix. If its worth fixing?
It mostly depends on the damage that was done (the LCD, keyboard, etc) but yours does not turn on so I am assuming it was fully submerged and completely damaged. Therefore, I would think your warranty is most definitely void.
When did this happen? How bad was it? Have you taken any measures to get it to dry? You can go online and you can find tips on how to dry it at least a bit so that it is not as bad, it might not get it to work, but it can help you prevent rusting, which would cause further damage thus reducing the probability of getting repaired/replaced. Also, do not try to turn it on unless you have tried to dry it as it will damage it even more (electricity + water = destruction). I would suggest giving this a try, and if it is still not working then it is probably worth a try with Apple, just go in for a consultation in terms of pricing. If they seem too high and/or the warranty is void, then you can opt for after-market products which significantly reduce the repair costs... as you would have nothing to lose anyway in terms of warranty.
It's $3,000, that pays my rent. Even investing $1,000 would be better than just not giving it a try at all lol. -
can i use some other company's locked iphone? or can i get official unlock from apple? cause i had iphone but it got water damage and don't want to pay crazy amount of money to get brand new...

A replacement iPhone is usually a refurbished iPhone that has received new battery and case and repair of anything that may have been faulty. The refurbished iPhone is indistinguishable from a new iPhone. A number of the regulars on here prefer the refurbished Aplle products because they have been so thoroughly tested.
A replacement iPhone is identical to the original, same color, capacity, and so on. -

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures for my Mail are not showing up. I have the signatures inthe preference panes and selected for the email address, but when I make a new message, the signature shows as none and doesn't give me a choice. Yesterday, the signatures were stacking instead of switching to the one I wanted to choose.
I had this and fixed it.
I had upgraded to Mountain Lion and my signatures in Mail were fine. But then about a week later, I got a new computer and used Migration Assistant to copy my stuff to the new machine. Upon opening Mail, I had all the correct Signature information in the Preferences>Signatures window, but nothing worked.
After lots of hunting, I found the Signature Folder. It's in:
Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
Looking at my previous setup (which works) I saw in that folder two types of files: .webarchive and .siganture
Looking in my new machine's Signature folder, I saw only the .webarchive folders, not the .signature folders
Since this was literally a clone of my previous setup to a new machine, here's what I did:
1. Quit Mail
2. In Problem machine, go to
Yourusername>Library>Mail>V2>MailData>Signatures
3. Move the Signatures folder someplace safe, but out of the MailData folder
4. Get the Signatures Folder from the working install (like a backup) and copy it to the MailData folder on the problematic machine
5. Start Mail on the problem machine
This worked for me. I don't know why Migration Assistant didn't copy the full signature folder, but this fixed it. It worked perfectly partly because I had just backed up with Carbon Copy Cloner and the very next day set up the new machine. I don't know where Lion or earlier versions of mail stored signatures, but the absence of the .signature filetype seems to be the problem.

Bout a iPhone 4S 2 days haven't been near water took a video and realised yesterday that their was no sound. Took it on they came up with it was my fault the water had water damage and corrosion. I'm devastated that I've paid 250 for a phone that's not working properly what do I do too fix this
I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

I'm trying to record only part of my screen using my Quicktime 10.0, but once I press record in the "Screen recording" feature it automatically starts recording and doesn't give me the option to choose what part of the screen to capture. What gives?
QuickTime version 10 can only record the entire screen.
