HP t5740e Installing XP instead of W7 embedded

Hi to all,
I was wondering if it is possible to install Windows XP instead of W7 on my HP t5740e?
I realise that it doesn't have a CD rom, but I know how to install XP via USB, so that's not a problem. The only problem could be the lack of drivers since I don't have any at my possesion? Will the drivers for W7 also work for XP?
This question was solved.

  • Wiped hard drive and tried to reinstall Mountain Lion but it installed Lion instead.

Everything was fine except that it was going slow from 2 years worth of clutter. I wiped the hard drive and continued on with the installation instructions without noticing until now that it installed Lion instead of Mountain Lion. What do I do? If I have to reinstall, I'd rather not have to download it again. I have it on my external hard drive but it won't show up since I did all this.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You used Internet Recovery to reinstall Mac OS X, so Lion was installed instead of OS X Mountain Lion. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
To install OS X Mountain Lion, open the Mac App Store, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download OS X Mountain Lion. If you have a USB drive with Mountain Lion, you can use it to upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion

  • SQL Server 2012 Express Install on Windows 7 SP1 Embedded not using virtual account?

    Hi there,
I did a default installation of SQL Server 2012 Express on Windows 7 embedded Standard SP1.
When I look at the SQLSERVER service credential it is configured to run under "NETWORK SERVICE" instead of the virtual account "NT SERVICE\MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS".
This is different from SQL 2012 Express installation on a non-embedded Windows 7.
    Why is this difference?
Secondly, because of this, I am unable to take a backup of databases to any folder other than the default SQL folder.

    Hi Chandrasekaran,
As Local Service account, the Network Service account and high privileged Local System account could be used by many services.
It becomes harder to track which service is actually accessing resources and performing actions, because all the services are using the one Network Service account or other account.
In Windows7 and Windows Server 2008R2, it introduces a new type of account called a virtual account, which emulates creating many unique instances of the Network Service account, so each service runs with its own instance of the Network Service account.
For example, when you install SQL 2012 on Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 and later you’ll see the services run with virtual service accounts named like:
    in the format NT SERVICE\<SERVICENAME>.
According to your description, when the SQLSERVER service was run under “NETWORK SERVICE”, you only back up database to the default SQL folder. It may be caused by the NETWORK SERVICE account has limited local privileges, just accesses network
resource with the computer credential. I recommend you change the account to Local System account, by default, which has full permissions on your computer.
For more information about SQL Server service account and virtual account, you can review the following articles.

  • Installing 8.1 Drivers in Embedded 8 Standard for latest Atom chipsets

We have been successfully using Windows Embedded 7 and then 8 successfully on various Dell, ASUS and MSI hardware platforms for the last several years. However, with the latest round of Tablets that have come out since Windows 8.1 was released, we can no
longer get Windows Embedded 8 Standard to install with all drivers working.
With both the Dell Venue 11 Pro and the Asus T100TA (both are based on the Intel Atom Z3770 processor and corresponding chipset) the vendors only supply Windows 8.1 drivers and we can only find reference to Windows 8.1 on Intel's site for that chipset
(which was released at the same time as Windows 8.1).
We can get all of the drivers to display as installed in the Device Manager, but when we do so, the system will no longer shut down. It will go through the normal shutdown process, but after the screen shuts off the device is still powered on (we can tell
the "home" button is still powered and if you have USB accessories attached with power LEDs, they are still getting power). Pressing the power button will not turn the system on. If you wait long enough, the system will restart on its own. If you
are impatient and want to turn the system on, you have to press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown. Then you wait a few seconds and THEN you can power the system back on.
I can say that if I do not install the Intel Atom Processor I2C Controller driver for SPB framework (which is the driver used by 7 devices), the system will successfully power off. However, then the touch screen stops working and who knows what else. The
only issue reported in Device Manager is that the "Intel Atom Processor UART Controller" is installed but has a device status of "The driver for this device might be corrupted, or your system may be running low on memory or other resources.
    (Code 3)."
My question is, given that Microsoft changed the driver model between Windows 8 and 8.1 but are NOT releasing a Windows 8.1 Embedded Standard, and vendors (supposedly at Microsoft's request (as per vendor comments)) and not providing Windows 8.0 drivers,
how are we supposed to use Windows 8 Embedded Standard on the most recent hardware platforms? Is there any way to add updates to 8.0 Embedded to support 8.1 drivers? Is there somewhere that might have 8.0 drivers that I have not thought of to look?

With all the changes at Microsoft, they have been silent on future market direction. WEPOS/POSReady 2009 and POSReady 7 were limited to point of sale systems so that WES can be used in the general embedded systems. When Microsoft started promoting Windows
Embedded Industry to the boarder market segments rather than limit it for Point of Sale/Service market and Windows 8.1 was only released for embedded under Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry, it appears the componentized version, WES, will not be carried forward.
Windows Embedded Industry more aligns with the Windows desktop group, and the same Windows desktop tools like SIM can be used to create custom installers. With storage costs going down, MS appears to be thinking that a componentized version is not worth
    the cost benefit.
The advantage of WEI is that a missing device driver or OS features will not be a problem. Any unwanted services like IIS can be disabled. The build process with SIM is similar (not exact) to WES7 so it is not difficult to take some work done in WES7
and bring it over to SIM.
Also, you can see from the Windows embedded team site that they are pushing Intelligent Systems or Cloud Computing. How this fits with managing and developing embedded operating systems is a puzzle since there is already another group that promotes
    Windows Azure.
Finally, ask the Windows CE (Windows Embedded Compact) developers what they think of the progress of WEC. You might get some interesting answers.
Again, these are just my observations so take it for what it is worth. Microsoft can change direction tomorrow as they re-organize and wait for a new CEO.

  • Help installing Java on Windows XP Embedded (XPe)

I'm trying to deploy an embedded system running Windows XP Embedded. The application we need to run on it is written in Java and i'm having a heck of a time getting Java to work on XPe.
Basically i'm building my OS image and then copying my Java Runtime directory over (which works fine on XP based machines) but when I launch the app it just hangs and nothing happens. I also attempted running the install file to do a fresh JRE install but the install shield closes down for no reason shortly after launching it.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get this to work and what steps I have to take? It seems like i'm not including something in my image i'm building that Java is looking for.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

    Dead easy.
    Install Javaruntime on your PC.
This should give you all the files you need in the following dir.
    C:\Program Files\JavaSoft\JRE
this link has the registry entries you need.
    http://lopica.sourceforge.net/gotwebstart.html#registry-runtime
I had to add the bin and classic or client directorys to the path.
    build a component.
    add it in.
    worked for me.

  • How to install Java instead than Jinitiator

    Hi everybody
I'm facing a problem in my current Operating System Windows 7 that I installed Oracle DB and Developer suite Ver "10.1.2.0.2" and I tried to install Jinitiator latest one that version jinit13130 and with no success to be installed even I copied the jvm.dll from latest Java to initiator directory and still didn't work. I even tried to disable Add-ons and still didn't work.
I heard that I have to use Java instead than Jinitiator I did as is mentioned in this page
http://fdegrelle.over-blog.com/article-4135746-6.html and also in this documentation pdf but still with no avail. In the website is mentioned that I have to put in the forms formsweb.cfg to add these thing
"instead of the archive_jini tag, use the archive tag
    archive=frmall.jar,...,my_jar.jar"
I found that my_jar.jar is not in any folder so I escaped this file from the line and only mentioned frmall.jar. and I did the rest but still didn't work, by the way I received this message when I run a form "FRM-10142: the http listener is not running on Candy-PC at port 8890. please start the listener or check your runtime preferences".
reference that I also checked is this page
    http://www.orafaq.com/forum/index.php/m/442273/0/
could anyone help me please to overcome this problem.
This is my formsweb.cfg I uploaded in rapidshare so you can see what I did.

Thanks a lot dears BaiG, QGIRCO, Francois for your help.
Alright, I did changed the syntax that is in the runtime Application Server to this "http://Canady-PC:8889/forms/frmservlet?config=jreconfig" and now the message disappeared and when I run the forms it shows to that want to download this file jinstall-1_4-windows-i586.cab and when I said install it gave me a message that
You are running the following platform: Windows 7 Ultimate. This Java platform works best on the following platforms:
Windows NT, 2000, 98, ME, XP
and I stopped the installation until I inform you and take your consultant about what should I do here.
By the way, I took off these line from formsweb.cfg as you can see it in my first post that I uploaded in rapidshare

  • Safari (Mac OS) wants me to install Flash instead of using HTML5

    Hi,
I re-installed Mac OS from scratch. No Flash player is installed yet, and when I open one of my Captivate files (published as Flash & HTML5) in Safari, I'm redirected to a Flash player download site.
    So,
    - when opening index.html (HTML5 version), everything works fine.
    - when opening project_name.htm (Flash version) I'm redirected to get.adobe.com, which is fine.
    - when opening multiscreen.html, I'm redirected to get.adobe.com as well. That's not finde, I'd like to play the HTML5 content instead.
Is there anything I can do about this?
    Thanks
    Pidd

  • Safe to remove Windows 7 and install XP instead?

    Hi,
I've been thinking about something recently; I probably won't do this until a while, but for now, it's just an idea.  I'm using Linux Ubuntu on my Lenovo Thinkpad E420, and it really work like a dream.  I use Windows 7 way less, and I only keep it for a few reasons.
I find it too bad that Windows 7 use so much disk space, however!  20GB for the system alone, in fact (For Ubuntu, it's 4.5GB, with all the softwares).  I'm sure Windows XP will do the same job that Windows 7, even running a specific game that wouldn't work under Seven.
I know you're all wondering why would I use Windows XP when his support is ending in 2 years?  Well, instead of using 20GB, the system will use only 1.5GB.  That's 18.5 GB of Extra for Ubuntu.  It also demand way less ressources than Windows 7.  I do not plan on browsing on Windows XP, I'll do this in Ubuntu.  Simply put, the only stuff I'm going to do on XP are:
    - Playing a few games (The most recent game being 2007);
    - Using Adobe Creative Suite CS5 (Along with Adobe Premiere and AfterEffect CS4, maybe);
    - Maybe using Microsoft Office 2007 or 2010 (Run well in Ubuntu using Wine);
I know a lot of people still using Adobe Creative Suite CS3 while CS6 is out, so I don't see the problem of still using CS5 even when CS8 will be released.  And CS6 is supported for XP as well (Except for Premiere and AfterEffect).
The only disadvantage I could think of is that Windows XP x64 would manage only 2 of my 4 CPUs..  Will this be noticeable on performances?
So I was wondering about this, will it be safe to remove Windows 7 and install XP x64 instead?  Did the 1GB "System_DRV" partition still be necessary?
I am also aware that installing XP will erase GRUB bootloader for Linux, but I know the way to restore it.  I also burned my recovery DVDs from Windows 7.
    Thanks for your advice!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I've been doing some ressearch, and I found out that as much odd as it seems, Windows Server 2003 would be a better choice.  Because the 32-Bit version would be able to manage my 8GB of RAM and my 4 CPUs without problem, unlike XP.  I also thought that Server 2003 would use less battery than XP.
So I created another NTFS partition to install Server 2003, check if this work before removing Windows 7 !
To make the setup boot proprely, I had to set the hard-disk to "Compatibility Mode" in the BIOS, otherwise I would get a BSOD (Same for XP).
The first part of the setup was successful, the files were correctly copied to the Windows 2003 partition I chose.  Then my laptop rebooted, and Server 2003 got.. confused.  Server 2003 would have proceeded to the second part of the installation, but booted from the first partition used by Windows 7.
As I was expecting, Windows Server 2003 deleted Windows 7 bootloader as well as GRUB for Linux.
I succesfully restored Windows 7 bootloader, and I am able to boot to Linux using my CD of GRUB.  I'm now going to restore GRUB, but something unexpected happened.
For some reason, GParted - the partition editor for Linux - wouldn't see anymore partition.  I'll have to check how to fix this on the Ubuntu Forums.  The partitions are still there, just no more visible by GParted - There are visible by Windows 7 and my GRUB CD, however.
There's something else I would like to understand as well; Windows Server 2003 randomly messed up something else: The files got copied in the right partition, but why did it randomly deleted my Lenovo_Recovery partition (Which was the last on the disk)?  Is there a reason for that?
So here's the main question of my post: is there a way to recover this partition?  It's not visible by Windows 7, not by GRUB as well.  Why was this partition used for, exactly?
I should mention that I still have my recovery DVDs I burned from Windows 7.  Was this partition still required?
    Thanks for the reply.
I think I'll have to stick with Windows 7, then. XD  In fact, I'm "lucky" Server 2003 haven't deleted anything else (I do have a full image of Linux).

  • Re installed leopard instead of snow leopard!

Help! I needed to change my mac book password and re-installed the OLD OSX dvd instead of snow leopard what can i do as I have no view of all my files etc...!!

    Ally4749,
when you’d reïnstalled Leopard rather than changing your password, did you wipe clean your internal disk in that process? Try opening a Terminal window, then run the following command there:
    ls -l /Users
Please include in your reply the full output from that command.

  • Installed FF 33.0, & now embedded images and videos on websites are blank. How fix? How roll-back to 32.0.3?

I installed FF 33.0, and "OpenH264 Video Codec by Cisco Systems, Inc. 1.1" plug-in installed itself automatically. Did that cause this problem? I set it to "Never Activate," which seems to have disabled it, but the problem persists. Do I need H264 for any reason? If not, can I uninstall it, and if so, how? Also, how do I revert FF to a previous verson? V. 33.0 seems to have caused this problem, whether it's due to H264 codec or something else in this version. There seems to be some incompatiblity somehow that wasn't there before -- what can I do to fix this?

Are they blank or black? If they are black I would recommend disabling hardware acceleration. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
This does not cause an issue, it adds to the variety of codec types Firefox can render.

Then your only option is to have the original OS X and iLife install discs. If you don't have them you might be able to order them from Apple for a small fee.
If your Mac originally came with OS X Snow Leopard or a previous version of OS X YOU NEED those original system discs.
