None that I know of...the boot sequence needs to load everything necessary.

    Hi ..
Not enough free storage space can slow your Mac down.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage. Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk
OS X Tips Where did my Disk Space go?
Check to see if the startup disk needs repairing.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery.
Anti virus software, as well as third party Mac cleaning utilities such as MacKeeper  and CleanMyMac can also slow your Mac down.
    For Safari.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari to test. if that doesn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • How do you speed up video clips for Imovie 8?

How do you speed up video clips for Imovie 8?

Do you mean get 55 minutes of real time footage to show in only 55 seconds?
One way that might work but it will take a fair bit of work in multiple repeated steps.
Select all the footage on the timeline and then use the Turtle/Rabbit slider to speed it all up to the maximum speed allowed. This of course won't be any where close to 55 seconds.
BUT... export your movie back out to video tape or to a full quality DV format quicktime file. This speeded up version becomes "normal" time. Now reimport to iMovies. Since this is now normal speed as far as iMovie is concerned, you can again use the slider to speed the whole thing up to the max.
Now just repeat as often as needed to get it as fast as you want. Export back out, reimport, adjust speed, export, import, adjust, etc.

  • How do you add things to the cloud ?

How do you add things to the cloud on an iPhone 4

There are two ways to store things in iCloud - iCloud Drive and iCloud Photo Library (Beta).
You can store all kinds of documents on iCloud Drive by dragging the documents to the iCloud Drive icon in the Finder sidebar on your Mac, see:  iCloud Drive FAQ
iCloud Drive will update the documents across all your devices, but i will keep shadow copies on the devices. You will not free space by moving documents to iCloud Drive.
iCloud Photo Library (Beta). lets you store your photos in iCloud and keep only optimised, smaller versions on the devices, but it is only available on your iPad, iPhone. For the Mac it is only as Beta version available, see:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview

  • HT201272 downloading a movie to IPad taking 24hrs how can you speed it up?

Downloading a movie purchase from ITunes store to Ipad3 is taking 24 hours. How can you speed it up?

First, try resetting your device. Press and hold both the home button and the sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds, until the screen turns off. Ignore the slider that will appear. Release the buttons, then press and hold the sleep/wake button until the Apple logo appears. This is the equivalent of a reboot, and should not affect your data or apps.
If that doesn't help, try restoring your device from backups, and if that doesn't help, restore it to factory settings (ie, do not restore a backup). See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If none of that helps, the issue is caused by some kind of hardware problem, and the device will need to be repaired or (more likely) replaced.

  • Leopard install says it will take 24+ hours... how can I speed things up?

I encountered some issues with my previous installation of Leopard, so I decided to format, and re-install it.
I start the installation using "Erase and Install" and after the disk verifies, I start the installation. Only problem is, the installation's giving me an estimated time remaining of 26 hours.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
That first estimate can be very erroneous. It should quickly settle down to a more reasonable number.

  • How do you move things?

I'm brand new to DW8. I took an online course from a
technical college and I've gone through all of the tutorials. I'm
from a 14 year graphic design background (Photoshop and Quark) so I
kind of expected DW to be a little more intuitive.
So the question is... Is there a way to move text and images
where you want them? From my background with PS and Quark you just
move them. If I want text over (or on top of) an image, I just move
it there. For the most part I can move it a little. I can align it,
lol. Can you move images around? On top of each other?
So, am I missing something? I would assume that this is
everyone's first problem... unless they grew up on MSWord and don't
    expect to really do much.
I kept waiting to cover this in the tutorial or the class. I
went about a dozen pages deep on this forum and didn't really find
anything. I see the very thing I'm talking about on most web sites.
How do they do it? How do they put text in a button and that text
is not a graphic? How do they put images or anything on top of
another image. For example, how do you insert a background image
and then put anything on top of it? All I can do is put images or
text NEXT TO other images and text. In fact, that seems to be the
    only option.
Sorry, I know my own ignorance is the problem, but its so
    frustrating.
    Thank you,
    Tom

  • How do you delete things...

i just got a nano and i was wondering if youo are over your limit for video do you just download something else and it edges something out or do you have to delete other vids from your ipod and how do you do that? thanks!

How you delete content from your iPod depends how you have it set to update:
If you are updating automatically (syncing) then delete the files from the iTunes library and next time you connect they will deleted automatically from your iPod. In the iTunes Library highlight the file and press the delete key on your keyboard.
If you are updating manually, connect your iPod and when it shows in the iTunes 7 source list click on the chevron (the little triangle) to the left of the iPod icon This will display the various icons for the iPod itself, Music, Movies, TV Shows and Playlists. Click on Music and you'll see the usual song list. Find the files on your iPod that you want to remove, highlight them and delete directly as above by pressing the delete key on your keyboard.
To select multiple items such as all the songs in an album, click on the first track in the list hold down the shift key and click on the last track to highlight the selection. Then press the delete key.
To summarise, you start by highlighting the song/video/selection in either the iTunes library or on the iPod song list as displayed in iTunes then press the delete key on your keyboard: Deleting songs or playlists from your iPod

  • Captivate 4 is now working very slowly - how can I speed things up?

    Hi,
My elearning course is now 13,641 KB and is starting to work very slowly. I have deleted all unused items from the library. Is there anything else I can do to speed things up? I don't want to split the project up at this stage.
    Thanks.

Did the slowness begin when you moved your Captivate project files onto another drive?
You need to be aware that you should always ONLY work on Captivate project files that are sitting on your own local hard drives, never those stored on a LAN or other drive.  Too many issues arise from working on non-local project files.

  • CHD Command is SLOW...How can I speed up processing

I have the following loop in a Diadem Script...Any thoughts on how to make it run FASTER...A channel with "only" 13792 elements is taking over 20 seconds to process...and I have to repeat this three times..
For Counter = 1 to ArrayLength
       if CHD(Counter, "/EP_HP") > BlowerLow then
          CHD(Counter, "/EP_HP (Low)") = BlowerOff
       else
          CHD(Counter, "/EP_HP (Low)") = CHD(Counter, "/EP_HP")
       end if
    Next
    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Hello Jeff!
The approach with a loop is obvious but slow. You can speed it up with the faster CHDX command and disolve the channel names to channel numbers with CNO in front of the loop.
The realy fast solution is done with the FormulaCalc command. Please set the DIAdem Variable R1 to the BlowerLow value and R2 to the BlowerOff value and than run this line:
    Call FormulaCalc("Ch('EP_HP (Low)') := (Ch('EP_HP') > R1) * Ch('EP_HP') + (Ch('EP_HP') <= R1) * R2")
The clue is that a true condition is evaluated to 1 a false to 0. With the multiplication and the to opposit conditions you get the two different values. DIAdem process this verry fast!

  • How do you  speed up a clip in imovie?

I have been learning how to use imovie but I cant seem to find how to speed up a clip... I think I have the newest version. Does someone know how?

Give the more powerful iMovie 06 a try, you'll find these features and others built in.

  • How do you Speed Jdev ?? Tell us you're tips !

Hello ! im using Jdev 11.1.1.3.0 and this how i speed up my Jdev :)
1.- Uncheck unused extensions. If you're working on a BC driven architecture ( No Desktop and EJB ) and also no UML diagram you can uncheck all this extensions:
    Go to Menu -> Tools - > Preferences -> Extensions ->
    - Uncheck ADF Swing
    - Uncheck EJB Modeler Extension
    - Uncheck all UML , be careful when doing this.
2.- Change the compiler JDK Version
Go to Menu -> Application - > Project Properties -> Compiler
JDK Version Compatibility -> Source Files : 1.6
If you have more .. please let us know :)

Ensure all virus scanners are off, in particular McAfee that maliciously scans all Jars.
Don't keep your source across the network, keep it local.
For speed within the IDE you can turn a number of the IDE enhancements off through the preferences menu.
Don't open JSF pages in "Design" mode by default, instead open them in "Source" code mode.
For startup of your integrated WLS, ensure to remove unused applications and connections as this slows the startup process.

  • How do you have things organized in iPhoto?

I'm in the process of organizing everything on my PowerBook. Currently I only use iPhoto for pictures that I want sync'd to my iPod. I really don't want to put all my photos in iPhoto, but I'm not sure.
I'd like to hear how you guys use iPhoto. Do you have all your pictures in it? Only the good ones from different events? What else?
I'm so used to the way I've been organizing photos in the past 6 years I've had a digital camera, it's hard to chance.

    John
I have all my 16k pics in iPhoto. iPhoto is accessed by various family members from 10+ and has demonstrated itself to be robust and capable.
For my money (and your mileage may vary, of course) I keep things simple. By that I means I have one way to do a job and stick to it. So, rather than having some photos in iPhoto and some in my own system - with the risk of getting confused between the two and losing stuff because I'm not sure what's where - I work on the KISS principle. It's stood me in good stead.
The other comment I would make is that - and I'll make a wild guess here - organising your files in folders based on date is so limited. I suggest that it's like rooting through an old showbox of pics by looking at the back of the prints rather than the actual photographs. After all, what's important about the pic? The date it was taken? Or the fact that it's your favourite pic of your dog and cat ever?
iPhoto is a database, and it has unlimited ways to organise your pics. Personally, I keyword extensively: Who, What, Where (the When is in the Exif), I rate the pics. I cna create Smart Albums of all my favourites, all my favourites without my dog shots, all my dog favourites only, all the pics I really should trash but haven't got around to...
It's safe, fast, powerful and easy. For me it's a no brainer.
    Regards
    TD

  • My mac is slowing down.  How can I speed it up?

My computer just started running VERY slowly today.  What could be causing this and how can I clean it up to increase the speed?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are several lines of text in monospaced type, which are UNIX shell commands. They’re harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of running these commands, search this site for other discussions in which they’ve been used without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search. A text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/ {print $6 $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple/ {print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple/ {print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get the name of every login item'
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
    You can then quit Terminal.
