HP Touchsmart 600 PC blue screen and video problems

Hi,
Just a quick bit about me before I get started.  I am A+, Network+ and Security+ certified and have been working on computers for years.  But this time I've run into something I haven't been able to diagnose and my friend doesn't want to format and reinstall windows on the machine.  I've been working on a friends computer and its a HP Touchsmart 600 with Win 7 64bit.  The biggest issue he is having is every few days it blue screens.  The latest one was caused by ntoskrnl.exe ( nt+8f1b2 ).  The majority of the blue screens have been ntoskrnl.  I posted all the minidump files over on another forum and it was suggested Norton was causing the problems so I removed it but it hasn't solved the issue.
The other issue he is having is every now and then the screen gets blurry.  He had been resetting the computer to fix this and I assumed it was a hardware problem.  But it happened to me while I was looking at it last week and right after that I got a UAC control box that popped up for a program I had been installing and it was clear and when I clicked allow the entire screen cleared up and was just fine.  I've updated all drivers on the machine and it has all the lastest windows updates.  It doesn't have the latest touch screen software that is out.  I believe it is version 4.0?  He has the 3.0 version and he doesn't use the computer as a touch screen he uses a mouse and keyboard.
Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Dan

Hello Alaric_Eisen:
Shut down your computer. Or just disconnect the power cord. Reconnect power cord if you used that method. Turn on computer and holp down on F-11 key this is your full recovery method. Your computer should start a full recovery to factory settings. If this fails then you know the hard drive is shot or memory chips are damaged. Then take your computer in for repairs. Good Luck I hope the  full recovery does the trick. Oh it will tell you if recovery fails another screen will display with more options just click on dynastic if it is your hard drive massaged will be hard drive not excist. Means hard drive is not being detected. Send computer in for replacement of parts.

  • Blue Screen and Sound Problems, In Desperate Need of Assistance

About a week and a half ago, my computer officially stopped showing anything on the display when I tried to start it up. It had been doing it on and off for a long time, but I would eventually get it to display. Not this time...
My husband and I took our 30" Cinema Display and G5 tower to the iStore. The display was tested, and it worked fine. The associate said the problem was the video card.
After doing much research, I decided upon the flashed GeForce 7800 GS, per the suggestions of japamac on this forum. After I received and installed it, the display worked again and everything seemed great! It came with a CD with a patch on it, saying it was for *10.4.9 or later*, so I installed the patch and ran the permissions command. I had to go on a business trip immediately as the permissions command was running, so I left the computer to do it's thing, knowing it would sleep after a while.
When I got back home from my trip, I eagerly hopped on my computer. I attempted to awake it from sleep, however it froze. I was not able to tell if the permissions command ever finished completely.
I restarted the computer and everything seemed fine. A few hours later, my husband hopped on the computer about to test the new card on a game, but it froze before he could do anything. We restarted the computer, and that's when the blue screen issue started.
I tried resetting the PRAM, starting it up on the install disc (which didn't work), I tried holding down the S key (which also didn't work), and I tried holding down shift for Safe Boot.
The Safe Boot works, in fact I'm on my G5 right now. I did the permissions command again, thinking that it must've not ran all of the way and the permissions were broken. When it finished it gave me a massive list of "permissions differ"s with 10 "Warning: SUID file "____" has been modified and will not be repaired" messages at the end.
I contacted the seller on ebay, who ended up telling me the patch was only for Tiger, despite the file saying "or later". I really thought I messed up the permissions badly from that and tried running the permissions repair, but that did not help.
Thinking I had no other choice, I backed everything up and I reinstalled Leopard (choosing to Archive). After it finished reinstalling, the computer restarted and it booted up normally. I thought my problem was solved! However, once I let it sleep and came back later, it was frozen. I restarted and had the blue screen problem all over again, to my disappointment.
I tried restarting, the PRAM, the permissions (which did not list those SUID warnings anymore)... There was once that I restarted and it gave me the blue screen, I tabbed twice, hit enter, and entered my password though I couldn't see anything. I heard the computer moving like it was logging in. I pushed the power button on my display, and magically the screen displayed my desktop with the "Are you sure you want to put your computer to sleep?" window.
However, this only happened once, and afterward I noticed an issue when I tried to wake the computer from sleep. It would try to wake up, then go back to sleep, try to wake up, go back to sleep... So I contacted the ebay seller again, explaining what had happened and that it made me think it is an issue with the card itself, not permissions. (Fearing that if it is permissions, I would have to reinstall the OS again, but choose to erase the disk this time.) I asked if the seller knew anything about this.
The seller contacted me back saying, "Hello again, yes, wake from sleep is a common issue of many modified cards for Mac , so you better turn it off if you are not use it, its better for both the video card and power supply of your G5,
hope you understand about it , thanks". Well, that really would have been nice to know in advance... but regardless, the more important issue is the blue screen on startup.
On top of all of this, when I tried to watch a video tonight I noticed the sound was not working. I made sure it wasn't muted, I made sure the optical cable was connected, nothing. I restarted, nothing. I did not have any problems whatsoever with the sound before this, and I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the card (I wouldn't think so), or that something needs to be reinstalled since I reinstalled the OS. The System Prefs > Sound, Is not finding any devices.
I've restarted the computer so many times since the initial failing of the video card, I really hope all of the restarting hasn't damaged anything. As old as my Mac is, it's been working perfectly normally until the graphics card went out. After that, it's seemed like everything is falling apart. Thank you for reading my long history of difficulties, and I hope someone (maybe japamac?) can help me!

    Hi-
I understand why you would suspect the latest hardware addition, and the conflicting/misunderstood advice given by the seller isn't helping.
I don't know of any cards that have "known" issues with sleep from the flashed realm.
Of the 10 different makes and models that I use or have used, flashed by myself or others, I have never seen an issue with sleep.
This includes 2 different Geforce 7800 GS cards.
The most common reason for a blue screen at boot is an incompatible Login or Startup item.
These are disabled during a Safe Mode boot.
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/startupitems.html
As for the Geforce 7800 GS, there was a patch for OS 10.4.9 only. This was to allow for the proper reporting and use of the appropriate OpenGL engine.
After 10.4.11, and in Leopard, the OpenGL engine is properly selected for the card.
Since this is simply a reporting issue, and not a performance issue, the patch is not a mandatory thing.
There is an issue with the ROMs used in some Geforce cards that causes a boot delay (a blue screen) for up to 6 minutes.
Most guys don't use those ROMs anymore, but I guess that someone may not have bothered to get the new ROM.
Removing the AppleHWSensor.kext from /System/Library/Extensions will correct this issue.
This, however, is historically a G4 issue only.
There are a couple possible scenarios that I think may apply to you:
1- The card is overheating, thus the occasional success or Safe mode only boots.
Check that the fan is spinning.
2- The auxiliary power is not connected, or has a poor connection.
Sometimes the pins on a Molex adapter (the female side) are so tight that they push out, rather than allowing the male pin in.
Conversely, a stretched out female pin would not properly contact the male pins of the graphics card.
Double check connections at the optical drive and at the graphics card.
While inside, reseat the graphics card.
3- If the card was prepared for use in a G4 by cutting the traces of pins #3 and #11, this can cause problems in the G5.
Most cards work fine, but some Geforce cards complain.
As well, if the pins were taped, the tape should be removed for use in a G5.
    http://themacelite.wikidot.com/pins-3-and-11
If the traces are cut, return the card.
If the pins are taped, remove the tape.

  • The Green Screen and Video Problems

    Hello,
I've read through the issues and answers on this topic but some of the things are working and some not.  For isntance, I was able to resolve one of my issues with some other fixes I had found through general online forums for the "green" screen which plays with only audio.  It seems to be working for me on you tube but not on Facebook anymore alhtough Facebook videos worked the first time around when I rebooted.
What I did was go into my internet options and under accelerated graphics I ticked use software rendering instead of...
and under the security tab I ticked enable 64 bit processes in enhanced protected...  Should the Enhanced protected mode be enabled as well then?  Should I tick that option.
I also treid to do what the answers recommended...such as right clicking on the video in Facebook when it is playing and while I do get a pop up I get settings options or global settings and adobe flash player info...clicking on settings gives me options but none for the "display", only for my microphone, camera and storage.  If I click on global settings, it takes me to flash player help.  And last option I get my version of Adobe info, which is version 13.00.214.  So no option to untick disable accelerated graphics cause I think I've done this in control panel already.
But now why it is working with youtube and not with Facebook videos  I also tried to play some home videos like wmv files and other video files in my windows media flash player and there I get a black screen but still audio plays.
My computer is an HP Pavillion Notebook PC and it came with Windows 8.1 already installed.  My Graphics Display adapter is an AMD Radeon R5 Graphics Card.
So what the heck do I do now.  Should I install newer Adode Player?  Even when unticking the accelerated graphis option, this is really not a solution to the deeper problem and issue, because then it slows down your graphics?
My computer is not even a week old and I hate having to always download fixes and constant updates and spend hours researching and trying to fix a problem that really should not occur to begin with.  Why are there so many glitches with Windows?  Is this a problem related with windows updates as well.  Active X controls?  Compatibility isuses with 64 bit processes.  Should I use Firefox.  I did that with my old HP which finally kicked the bucket and that is why I had to buy a new one.  I had to replace my battery before even a year and my warranty battery did not last that long either and then the thing finally overheated and died.  But I had lots of similar things happen before with last HP laptop so is it Windows or is it HP or is it browsers, players?
I am sorry if I am unloading on you...I don't mean too but it is just soooo frustrating as a consumer to have to always go through these kinds of things.  I use my laptop for self employment so please help!!!!!
Thanks for letting me vent..  I would appreciate your help, thank you.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I am sorry you have experience any issues.  I have looked into your issue with the Video issues.
    Have you uninstalled Internet Explorer?
    Have you tried Google Chrome?
It already includes Adobe® Flash® Player built-in. Google Chrome will automatically update when new versions of Flash Player are available. Adobe are on version 15. Here is a spot to update. This does have a link to Google Chrome as well.
Here is a link to common Flashplayer issues.
I would try a system restore as this would undo any changes that might have happened with a Microsoft update. Sometimes they have not finished or been installed on the Notebook.
    Hope this helps you.

  • On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?

On startup Mac Pro I get a blue screen and a cursor on the upper left. The mouse cursor shows up independently. Is it likely a video card failure?

I managed to boot the computer and get the desktop to show. I now have a "repaired" computer. There are several problems that have cropped up. One is that I can only start up now in Safe Boot mode. Is there a way to turn it off? Also, I do not have a sound list, so I can't access anything requiring audio. Google Chrome only shows up as a white screen. Pictures that loaded before don't load in browsers, etc. Any suggestions? I figure I should reinstall Mac OS Lion for starts, maybe even do a mirror backup and reformat the drive. I think this drive has turned into scrambled eggs...what a headache!

I recently purchased Norton stuff and loaded it but dont know how to do all that stuff you said to do.
    okay.
was that Norton Internet Security 2006? if so, right-click on the yellow ticky-Norton thing down in your task bar, and select "Norton Protection Center". click the LiveUpdate button. install everything it says is available at LiveUpdate. restart the PC if it asks you to.
open Norton Protection Center again. click on "Norton AntiVirus". click on "Scans". click on "Run full system scan".
once that's finished, and you've dealt to everything that shows up, do a spyware scan. if you don't have an antispyware program, download and install the free trial version of Ewido, and scan your PC with that.
    ewido anti-malware download
once that's finished, and you've dealt to anything that shows up, go to the Symantec website (they make your Norton), and run one of their online virus scans. they take an eternity, so you may want to do that overnight:
    Symantec Security Check
to do a disk cleanup, go "start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup"
to run chkdsk (that's a disk checking/repair utility in Windows), close all active programs, go into My Computer, right-click on your hard drive, select "properties", click on the "tools" tab, and click the "check now" button.
to do a disk defrag, go "start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter"

  • Deskjet 6940 causing a blue screen and rebooting PC on bootup

I have a strange problem with a clients PC.  Whenever it boots up, if the Deskjet 6940 is connected via a usb cable it blue screens and reboots.  The PC was recently updated to Service Pack 3, at first I thought the amount of memory was too low (248 mb, with 8 shared with video).  So I upgraded the memory to 1 Gb but it still happens, if the printer is not plugged in it goes into Windows and works fine.  if I then plug the printer in it reboots immediately.
I've tried different USB sockets, I've tried uninstalling the drivers and all the HP software, rebooting and downloading the latest drivers from HP.  This seemed to cure it for a few hours, but later that same day the client called me again to say it had rebooted again.
I have spoken to HP support in the UK and was told that HP have issues with Service Pack 3 of XP.  I found this hard to believe and also embarrassing - this is a new IT support contract and I recommended that all the PC's were upgraded to SP3.

I would suggest you upgrade teh drivers for your motherboard and also update the BIOS of your motherboard too and see if that resolves the issue.

  • Screen fades to blue screen continually (video attached)

Here is what is going on. On boot the computer would lock up after the spinning gear. Or it seem to. It would get past the apple logo, flash pink for a second and go to a white screen. I could hear the hard drives being accessed but it never seemed to come out of this white screen after waiting 10 or minutes. So I ran the hardware test on this computer. It found no problems, so rebooted and oddly enough I the computer booted fine. However occasionally after being logged in the computer would flash to a blue screen and fade back in. This is the same animation you see when you log into your machine right before you see the desktop. In some cases it will continue over and over (see the youtube link bellow). Even booting off the original restore disc this issue kept continuing. Which leads me to believe its a hardware issue. Ive tried, resting the PRAM, SMC, ran the hardware test a second time, ran a check on the hard drive using disk utility, fixed the permissions, swapped out dvi cables, and changed out the power strip. I am leaning towards it being a video card issue, but i cant be for sure. The problem is intermittent, so its hard to track down. Has anyone seen an issue like this before?????

RAMs and GFX card, but to no good result. I also tried to remove the PCIe-424 card, and found out that this causes to stuck the system in blue screen. I was wondering maybe MOTU has new released driver for OS X 10.6. I only downloaded the latest driver for mac which is for 10.4 and up. But whenever I'm plugging back the PCI card in, the blue screen problem still occurs and cannot continue with the installation procedure anymore.

  • Computer goes blue screen and comes back slow

I have a 27 inch 2010 imac and evertime i log in my screen goes blue and my mouse has a hard time moving.  Then after a will the screen goes blue again and my computer fine.  Then a will after my computer goes blue screen and it slow again.  And it keeps doing this like 10 times then it just stopes.  I have no clue whats wrong with it??

Hello, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free Disk space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab of Activity Monitor, are there a lot of Pageouts?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • IPhone 6 Blue Screen and Static noise?

So basically, here's the gist. I recently (not really recently, around October/November 2014) got an iPhone 6. I had gone straight from the 4 to the 6 so I haven't adjusted to it not being able to fit in my back pocket like my 4 did, resulting in it falling out of my pocket and landing on concrete, cracking a lot of the screen. Now, I'm fine with cracks so long as it only messes with the appearance of my phone. Meaning if it functions normally I see no need in getting it fixed. It functioned perfectly fine the following months until maybe mid-Decemberish where this happened for the first time. I was on Instagram trying to view a video. The "buffering video" symbol disappeared from the upper right hand corner signaling the video had started but I was still staring at the same thumbnail image. Thinking maybe it was a rip off video I decided to try and view another video. The same thing happened. As well as another time with one of my own videos. So this third time it happened the video began to play but then froze, but no pause or stop button appeared as usual. Instead my phone went to a blue screen, and static was heard coming from the speakers very faintly. It then went black and rebooted, taking me to the home screen. I looked into this issue and was told it was probably just a software problem and wouldn't happen again. Since then I have been experiencing bugs such as my screen lagging or simply not responsing to my touch, apps crashing the moment I open them, and my camera acting up, but it never went blue, though Instagram videos still refused to play. Until just now. Once again I was attempting to watch an Instagram videa that started to play but stopped mid-video and the screen went blue again with the same static then back to black and proceeded to reboot. By now I've decided to seek professional help which led me here to this forum. Any help? Thank you.

Today was second time I got my phone back without Apple Premium Service Provider found anything wrong. I get "blue screen of death" all the time. I have even tried to create a new Apple id but I got the "blue screen of death" directly when i tried to install any apps.
I now have an expensive worthless iPhone 6 that I can't use and Apple says it's nothing wrong with that. I'm going to throw this piece of **** in the garbage and buy a Samsung instead because I need a phone that works and that I can rely on.
    Thanks for nothing,

  • My iPhone would just randomly give me a blue screen and then restart--did that a bunch of times between Tuesday and last night. As of last night, it WILL NOT come back on. iTunes says it's in recovery mode....what does all of this mean???

Tuesday night I was texting a friend and when I went to open her message, my screen went blue and restarted. I just wrote it off as weird and went on about my business. Later that night, I tried to turn on my phone and it would not turn on. I plugged it up, held down the power button, and pressed the home button all numerous times. I looked online and it said to do a "hard reset" by holding down the power and home button at the same time--my phone then came on. Throughout Wednesday, it would give me a blue screen and restart--nothing major just really annoying. I took it to the local Verizon store where I bought the phone from and he said that it was some type of hardware defect and I was still under my year warranty so I could get a new one for free--the free phone won't be here until tomorrow, Saturday. I took it home and it didn't give me any trouble for a couple of hours. The next day it was cooperating and then I left town for a little while and it acted up (blue screen and then restarting) a few times. When I got home, it acted up again and so I restarted the phone and it was working fine. A few minutes later, I tried to check my messages and the phone was off again. No matter what I do, my phone will not come back to life. It had at least 45% battery last time I looked at it. I decided to plug the phone up to my computer and see what it did--my computer recognizes that there is a phone hooked to it and it says that it's in "recovery mode". It also said that if I'm having issues with my phone, that I need to reset the phone via iTunes. I guess the questions that arise are
    1. Why is my phone doing this?
    2. If I reset my phone, will it go back to working again? I ask that because I don't want Verizon to charge me $300 when they send me the replacement phone and I won't need it (assuming that the phone decides to work once it's been reset).
    3. What type of hardware defect is this that is causing this issue, not only with my iPhone 5S but others as well?
    4. Shouldn't people be notifying Apple and letting them know that they need to fix this issue?
    5. Should I report this issue to Apple even though I didn't buy the phone directly from them, but through Verizon?
Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! This whole situation has me stressed out and seriously confused.

    Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen.  I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening.  However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue.  This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.

  • Mid 2010 MacBook Pro: Will randomly blue-screen and Safari repeatedly crashes.

I bought my MacBook Pro in June/July of last year, and it has worked perfectly fine up to this point. However, for the past 2 months or so, my computer will randomly go to a blue screen and log me out. Also, Safari will crash several times (it had never crashed on me until the blue-screen problem started. Both of these issues surfaced at the same time). For the most part, the blue-screening problem only happens when I'm using the internet, but sometimes it will happen when I am offline as well. This is an infrequent/inconsistent problem, though. It will blue-screen and Safari will crash one week, but then it will be perfectly fine for the next three or four weeks. What's wrong/how do I fix it?

    Hi JRC8.8,
It sounds like you have been on the right track in trying to troubleshoot this issue. You may want to see if your MacBook Pro will boot directly to the Apple Hardware Test, as outlined in the following article:

  • My MacBook Pro is now asking for a login. When I enter my passcode, it goes to a blue screen and back to the login screen. I saw several older posts, but nothing recently. I am running Snow Leopard.

My MacBook is now asking for a password. When I login, it loops to a blue screen, and back to the login. Incorrect logins create a shaking of the login screen. I tried restarting with the shift key depressed, with no luck.

I performed a hard shutdown, and upon start I could access my system without logging on. I'm not sure what caused the issue, but I have not booted up in almost a week.

  • G4 has blue screen and I still can't get it to login...HELP!

I went to the store and when I returned I had a blue screen with my mouse pointer that could move. I read tons of post on here and tried everything such as resetting PRAM, bought a new battery because like threads said, I too would push the power button and it would flicker and not turn on. I would have to unplug the power cord just to be able to get another try. If I didn't, nothing happened. So then I borrowed my Aunt's Leopard CD she had from her iMac and tried booting off it (holding down the C button) and nothing. I get a message stating that I can't boot off of that disc? After letting it sit for a few hours I was finally able to get past the blue screen and access Disk Utility. I tried repairing the disc (i have 3 plus the backup drive) and I get past that. I then select Verify Disk Permissions and get a "FIRST AID FAILED" Message saying Disk Utility stopped repairing permissions on "HD" because the following error was encountered. The underlying task reported failure on exit. So then I run across a thread saying that it could possibly be a admin user or password problem. I remember just before the blue screen that I was indeed researching on how to lock a folder on my desktop as well as my back up drive. So I followed the instructions and powered it on while holding the apple key + S key and typed in mount -uw /
    rm /car/db/.AppleSetupDone
    shutdown -h now
Now when I turn it on it starts up just like its brand new. However, I can't get past the part where it ask if I want to transfer information from another computer or Hard Drive or do it later with Migration Assistant. I have tried starting it and holding down the C key and nothing happens - I get the gray Apple screen frozen. I have held down the Option Key and restarted and selected both the HD and Start Up Disk which both have a little blue X in the corner if that helps and same results. Before trying to start up using the disc i forgot to mention I tried restarting it pulling each of the RAM drives out and putting them in different locations and that did nothing. And FINALLY! The last restart prior to posting this I have a bunch of lines across the Purple Galaxy Screen that says:
System Failure: cup=0; code=00000001 (Corrupt Stack).
Latest crash info for cpu 0:
    Exception state (sv0x29d85280)
Backtrace terminated - frame not mapped or invalid:
    Any ideas from here?

Whoah boy, lots of things here and I have to make supper...
I'll choose a few at a time. "RAM drives"
RAM drives? Do you mean hard drives? Do you mean RAM chips?
If hard drives, did you put them back in the same order? Multiple hard drives in one machine often need to be jumpered correctly when you move them about.
If chips... It's too difficult at this stage to tell if it is hardware or software. If hardware it could be chips, and that error at the end had a vague chip ring to it. One way to test for chips if you have extra chips is to pull all but the minimum required to boot and see if it boots.
You mention a backup drive. This wouldn't happen to have a clone of the operating system on it would it?
    4 drives... All internal?
From all you've said it could be hardware or software. Blue screen could be software but failing hardware can corrupt a drive, messing up the software.
Boot discs. It sounds like you have no boot discs (CD. DVD) for this computer, right?
What computer are you using right now?

  • Hi, my iphone its in recovery mode and when i restore my iphone 5s loading show the blue screen and show note on itunes (unknown error 14) please i need your help please . thanks

Hi, my iphone its in recovery mode and when i restore my iphone 5s loading show the blue screen and show note on itunes (unknown error 14) please i need your help please . thanks

In the article Resolve iOS update and restore errors this is what it says about error 14:
    Check your USB connections
    Related errors: 13, 14, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1611, 1643-1650, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, 4005, 4013, 4014, or “invalid response."
If the USB connection between your device and computer is interrupted, you may be unable to update or restore.
To narrow down the issue, you can also change up your hardware:
Use the USB cable that came with your device, or a different Apple USB cable.
Plug your cable into a different USB port directly on your computer. Don't plug it into your keyboard.
    Try a different computer.
If necessary, resolve any further issues with the USB connection, then with your security software.
If you're still seeing the error message, check for hardware issues by following the next section.
