HP Touchsmart IQ510 For Playing Games?

Hi my Fiancee brought one of these yesterday from comet and its brilliant, i just have a few questions.
I tryed to install The Elder Scrolls Oblivion and after it does the install and i press "play" it comes up with a error message saying...
"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"
I tryed updating the graphics card drivers and the game itself but no luck i was just wondering if there might be some simple solution i am missing because i know i could try more drastic options but too be honest i don't wanna play about too much with her brand new computer and if it does'nt work i ain't too bothered.
Also do you rekon some other games i might have more luck with or should i just forget about gaming on this computer even if the spec is good enough for most of the games i wanna play.
Kind Regards
Steven.

Try shutting off the Touchsmart software prior to playing a game:
To completely close the TouchSmart software tap Personalize , TouchSmart Settings , deselect Quick Launch , tap OK , and then Close .

The CPU and GPU generate a lot of heat when you are playing graphic intensive games.

  • MACBOOK 1.8 Mhz: Too limited for playing games in Windows?

I’m having a terrible time trying to play games in mi MacBook 1.8 MHz, in Windows, using the last version of bootcamp and 1GB of RAM. Some games don’t start; others crash during the execution, and with others, the whole windows crashes and got restarted.
I've reviewed many posts sent to the BootCamp forum, looking for a solution, but it seems those problems don't affect to the Macbook PRO users.
It seems that our Video Card (the MacBook Card) it's too limited, compared with the PRO video cards (a video memory problem or something related).
Has anyone had similar problems? Have you found any solution?
    Thanks.
    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

the MacBook is hampered by a low-end graphics solution that relies on shared RAM instead of its own VRAM (although it has 64MB VRAM). About the only improvement you can make is to max-out your RAM to 2GB. Even then, you may not be very pleased, and many games may not work at all. Check the specs on the games to see how they handle the Intel GMA 950. Upgrading to 2GB is not cheap and (IMHO) not worth the $ just to get better gaming performance. The MacBook will never be adequate for that purpose.
    Good luck!

  • Using VMWare Fusion for playing games

Hi all and I hope you can help.
I have a recent 17" MBP with 2GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo and I am trying to get some decent game software running on it. To do this I have installed VMWare Fusion, XP Pro and Crysis.
My problem is, I can get the game to run but it is VERY choppy and unplayable.
I have tried various virtual settings, including using 1 and 2 processors, 512mb to 1.5gb RAM but never getting it to run properly.
I am not trying to run it full screen or anywhere near high settings and have allowed the game to scan the hardware to find it's optimal settings and still no luck.
I know Crysis is quite a heavy load but with the hardware in an MBP it should be able to run it without many problems.
Am I being too optimistic trying to run Crysis or are there a set of parameters that are optimised for doing this?

VMWare will also allow you to virtualize a boot camp partition.
The problem with virtualization and gaming is that, while you get direct CPU access and protected memory access, you do not get video access - so there is absolutely no video acceleration, it's all emulated or translated by the virtualizer.
You'll see a very minor CPU hit on anything that just using processor power or takes a lot of data (so long as you have enough physical RAM, and have enough RAM allocated to the virtual machine, to prevent disk swapping), but anything that needs video acceleration will suffer tremendously if it's virtualized.
In general, anything more than Solitare or Minesweeper, and you will want to use Bootcamp if there is no Mac OS X native version of the game (hooray for Blizzard, and all you other mac-native developers). I know the latest versions of VMWare and Parrallels all say they have new DirectX support, and Crossover has a version out just for gaming, but you'll disappoint yourself if you think these will do much more than just show the splash screen and a slide show for most games.
The good news is more game companies are starting to take Mac OS X seriously, and technologies such as Cider are helping developers port their code easier. But it's a long road, and the Macintosh has notoriously been spotty for gaming.

  • I was wondering if the entry level 21" imac would be ok for playing games like the total war series on a medium setting, or am i better off spending an extra £250 for the next 'level' of imac? Thanks

I am not worried about playing on ultra or high or anything, I am happy with medium settings.
    Thanks for your time.

Yes, it should be adequate for your needs.

  • Touch not sensitive enough for playing games

I have had two brand new Sony Xperia Z3 phones and just about to hand the second one back to the shop as it will only respond on games by either pressing firmly or by swiping. The menu on games is also affected. Both worked fine for four days before this problem so maybe an update is to blame???  Games like Monkey Flight and Bike Mayhem are infuriating as they rely on a light touch response. Other games like Bejeweled Blitz work fine as they rely on a swiping movement mostly.
As i said the phones were both only four days old before this bug came along.
Can anyone shed any light on it before i go back to Apple?
    Thanks Peeps.

Did you tested the apps, keep in mind that you have another Android phone, let say an Xperia Z2 or Z1 or even a Nexus phone and the game might work on those phones but have bugs on the Z3, again, what you described does point out to be a game issue, not a phone issue. You can also uninstall and re-install the games but again, test the digitizer/touchscreen with those apps.

  • Hello.I have installed windows 7 home premium on my macbook pro mostly for playing  games. But there is a problem.Whenever I launch a game, the screen just zooms in one part and I cannot see the whole screen. Therefore,I cannot play.Help please !

I tried to re-install games as well, restart my macbook but it did not work.I want to add that even before using bootcamp, the same thing happened to the screen. So, I do not think that there is a problem with windows 7.

  • WIndows XP Mode Virtual PC Graphics Card For Video Games

    Hi All,
I have a GeForce GT525M  Graphics Card installed on my laptop. I am using Windows XP Virtual PC to let me play Spore as Windows XP is supported by Spore whereas Windows 7 is not. After an hour of searching for what my problem was, I found out that my
XP virtual machine was using a virtual graphics card instead of my physical graphics card which supports what I need to play Spore.  I know
that Virtual PC is not built for playing games but I really want to figure how to use my physical graphics card Instead of a virtual one for my benefit and for others benefit.
Any help as to how to use my physical graphics card would be greatly appreciated.

You can't.  Virtual PC only presents the virtual video adapter to the
virtual machine and there's not way to change that.
VMWare and VirtualBox both support some enhanced video, but I don't know
if they will do what you need, but I can bet the performance would not be
very good, even if it worked.  virtualization just doesn't work well for
    any real-time activity, especially games.

  • Best setting for playing ga

Sorry not sure what forum to post this in but anyways what settings do you use for playing games with 5. speakers? like do you have CMSS on or off, EQ on ect ect ect ect.........

I would have CMSS ON to have the full surround sound (as some games may not support the card or somthing). I would turn EQ off, because this may make sounds more tinny or distorted(let the game play its own sounds ;P).
Also another thing is the THX console. Make sure you have put the rear speakers behind you and open up the thx console. Then do some accurate measurements and put these measurements into the correct boxes. This should make the sound better.
Doing all of that should make sure?you get the best out of the game.
    Hope this helped,

  • Using my G4 for a gamer?

I have a Dual-450Mhz CPU, 1.31GB RAM, 16MB VRAM, OS X 10.3.9, 120GB HDD, G4. I was wondering if I could maybe purchase a better video card and use this machine for playing games, such as Halo. Any information on this would be great, maybe which video cards I can purchase or some recommendations. Thanks.

    Hi-
Minimum system requirements for Halo are 800mhz processor, 256mb RAM, and 32mb Graphics card.
Recommended system is 1ghz processor, 512mb RAM, and 64mb Graphics card.
Your G4 Dual 450 would be about equivalent to a 733mhz single processor G4 QuickSilver. With the 1.31 gb of RAM that you have and a 128 mb ATI 9800 Graphics card, the game MAY be reasonably playable, but no guarantees.
For any gaming, the only card of choice for the G4 is the ATI Radeon 9800.
For any serious gaming, and considering most games require 800mhz or better, a dual processor 1.2ghz, or better, or a 1.6mhz or better, single processor upgrade would be necessary to see any real performance in the games.
