HP TrueVision HD webcam not detected on my Pavilion DV7

Okay, When I got this thing a year and a half ago, the webcam wouldn't work turns out that I had to send it in to get fixed. not a problem it was still under warranty. took 2 days it came back every thing was fine. now I don't use it often, so I didn't notice that it had quit working until about 2 weeks ago. now it's not in warranty. every thing seems to be fine, I uninstalled the software and reinstalled it( youcam 3.0) as per hp instructions. The software appears to be in proper order , but the cam still don't work . I also found out that scaner on my HP all - in - one don't work either. any ideas as to why this is , or how to fix it. and also are these two linked in some way??

Hi,
Please use this to fix:

  • Webcam Not Detected [HP TrueVision HD]

I have the HP Pavilion dv7-6b57nr Entertainment Notebook PC. Currently running Windows 7.  When I open the program provided for the webcam (YouCam) it says webcam not detected.  I have reinstalled this program a few times to attempt to install the driver for the webcam but the issue persists with an error saying "No Webcam Detected" or whatever it is.  I have been to the device manager and the webcam is not listed there (which I know would be Imaging Devices or something like that).  I have heard that many others with dv7's have been having issues with the webcam as well. I have not had my laptop for very long. Some of the solutions I've heard that work are smacking it which I've tried but doesn't work. I've read up that this issue is merely an issue in workmanship and is problem with wiring. I would like to know how to get this fixed please. I would like to get this fixed as soon as possible

  • HP Envy dv4 Windows 8- HP TrueVision HD Webcam not working or showing up in device manager

The subject is fairly self explanatory, I am using a HP Envy dv4 on Windows 8 and trying to use the 'HP TrueVision HD ' Webcam which is not working. When I went to find it in the device manager it was not present. I have restarted my computer already.
    Thanks

    Hey @kleinhansjy ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the webcam in your ENVY dv4 notebook is not working.
Can you tell me if the webcam worked previously, has never worked, or stopped working after updating to Windows 8 (if the notebook did not come with Windows 8 pre-installed).
It would also help to know which exact notebook model you have. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Some of the steps may not apply if the webcam is not detected in Device Manager. You may need to show the hidden devices by clicking View > Show hidden devices. You might find the webcam is listed as an Unknown device in the Other devices category.

  • Dv7t Quad - Windows 7 64bit - Internal HP Webcam not detected by Device Manager

New system - one re-install of Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.  All else is running as expected.   (SimplePass is even cooperating.)  Webcam is missing from the Device Manager.
I believe the onboard (internal) HP TrueVision HD Webcam worked originally (after purchase).  I reinstalled the OS (fighting with SimplePass - story not worth telling).  Never checked the webcam.  Weeks later...  The webcam is not detected and is not listed in the Device Manager.  Speccy64 (freeware used to detect and monitor all sorts of system specs) does not see the webcam.  Skype does not see the webcam.  YouCam software does not detect the webcam.  Nada, zip, zero: No webcam.
I've already "chatted" with HP, requested, and reinstalled the webcam driver.  No luck, there.
BIOS is up to date (F1.A 7/20/2011).  (Everything is up to date - the laptop is new and is constantly updated.)
I'm open to the obvious, that of returning to "factory rebuild", but it's a headache to avoid so soon after just getting this beast where I want it.  I do have a recovery disk and assuming it has anything more than just more drivers on it, it may be useful if I could figure out how to use it.
    Ideas?
    Thanks in Advance!
    Kind Regards,

There is no harm in recovering your Notebook to factory state but I highly doubt that would fix your issue.
It could be a faulty webcam module which is not been recognized. I suspect you might have to send the Notebook in for a warranty repair to get it fixed .

  • Webcam not detected Envy 14

I got the Envy 14 late January and I've loved it thus far. However, I went to use Skype a few days ago, and my webcam would not work. Instead, the HP MediaSmart software popped up, and even when I closed that Skype wouldn't work. Opening up just MediaSmart Webcam gives me the error message, "No webcam detected. Try plugging in a webcam into your computer now. If you are using and integrated webcam, try turning it on." My webcam is integrated, and I have the sneaking suspicion that it got uninstalled somehow. Now the red light wont even come on no matter how hard I try.I uninstalled and reinstalled Skype,I have searched the net for it's software, but have had no luck. I reinstalled the MediaSmart Webcam software off of both Recovery and the HP website,I also found my laptop and looked at all of the drivers but could not find one listed for my webcam.I went to Device Manager, (there is no Imaging Devices section), looked under the Sound, Video, Game controllers and found Webcam Splitter (with a speaker icon next to it though), updated those driversI clicked Detect Hardware Changes everywhere in Device Manager... And still no luck. I really don't want to do a system restore because I'm not sure what I would lose, or if it would even work. And please no factory restore!!! From prior knowledge I think I have the HP TrueVision HD Webcam. Thank you in advance.

    Hi,
A couple of questions, first what is the model number of the PC?  You can find the specific product name / Model number either by starting HP Support Assistant, or finding the label on the back of the notebook or inside the battery compartment.  It will be something like "HP Envy 14-1000xx Notebook PC".
Did the Webcam ever work?  If it worked at one time, try using Microsoft System Restore to restore the PC back to a date when the Webcam was working.  This is not the same thing as a factory restore, but it does require that a restore point exists from a time when the webcam was working.  The link below goes to a document that details how to use Microsoft System Restore:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00807369
You might also try a Hard Reset using the following steps to see if you can get the Webcam detected in the Device Manager again:
    Perform a hard reset:
Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.
Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds.
Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not connect the battery), Press the Power button to start the PC.
After booting back up into windows, check the device manager again and see if the webcam is listed.  If it is still missing then you may need to contact customer service for assistance.  If it now appears go ahead and test it in the Mediasmart software to see if it is working.
    Good Luck,

  • Presario CQ 71 - Built in Webcam not detected under Windows 7 Professional - No HP-101 device

I have a Compaq Presario CQ 71 EB400. On this notebook I run both Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits and  Windows  7 Professional 64-bits to compare behaviour of apps and windows features in both  environments.
Windows 7 Home on  my  HD C partition
Windows 7 Professional  on my HD F partition.
The CQ 71 has a built in Webcam, that shows up under Windows 7 Home premium Device Manager - Imaging Devices  (Cameras and Scanners)  as HP-101, linked to the required drivers.
    Under Windows 7 Home premium:
    - The built-in CQ 71 Webcam is detected and operational - the HP-101 entry is present in Device Manager.
    - Applications using a Webcam like Skype, Mycam, Manycom etc connect with the Webcam
    - When I  plug in an external Webcam,  thet webcam is detected as well, drivers loaded etc.
    Under Windows 7 Professional:
    - The built in Webcam is not detected, in the Device Manager -Imaging Devices, the HP-101 Webcam entry is absent
    - Skype, Mycam, Manycam cannot find a  Webcam (also not when an external USB Webcam is plugged in)
    - A plugged in external Web cam is not detected as an imaging device.
I use a Brother printer/scanner/fax machine,  the Brother scanner device is visible as Imaging device in Device manager in both Windows 7 Home premium and Windows 7 Professional.
Other USB devices, portable disks, card readers etc seem to work OK in both Windows 7 environments.
The HP support pages provide information what to do when a internal Webcam is not detected; The recommended actions make no difference.  Going back to a  previous W7 Prof restore point is no option,  as on the CQ 71 notebook the built-in Webcam  never functioned under W7 Professional.
The major difference is that all Windows 7 Home Premium relatede system software resides on the C partition, all Windows 7 Professional system software on the F partition.
I'm looking for a way to kickstart the built in CQ 71 Webcam under Windows 7 Professional installed  on a non-standard partition.
Your suggestions will be very welcome.
    Jan Dijckmeester.

    Hi again jdij,
It is good to hear back from you!
To enable your system to detect the Webcam in Windows 7, I recommend re-installing the original drivers and software that first came with your computer. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7). To update the newly installed software, please follow this resource on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7).
If the webcam is still not detected, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

  • Webcam not detected in Compact Presario C769CA Notebook - Windows Vista 32-bit

The webcam is not detected in my notebook, it is  NOT  shown in the Device Manager or in the Imaging devices:  I have done a scan for driver updates and the result said that all drivers are up to date, but the webcam is still not detected.

  • Webcam not detected in Mavericks Operating System

    Hi Team,
I upgraded my Macboox OS to Mavericks and since than the webcam is not detected in facetime skype or my other office application like Cisco Jabber.
I know "sudo killall VDCAssistant" works, But it works for some days and again webcam stops working.
We have huge engineer base in office who uses Macbook and if the colloboration through video is not working, it may affect the further purchases.
Is Apple willing to provide some permanent solution to this problem.

You mention earlier that you have an iMac that works with the apps that give trouble on your rMBP.
If your rMBP originally came with Mavericks installed, the only workaround I can suggest is that you use your iMac to maintain your non-Apple relationships until the problem is resolved.
If your rMBP originally came with Mountain-Lion or earlier installed, and if you need to use your rMBP with the problem software apps, consider retreating to Mountain Lion until the problem is resolved in Mavericks.

  • Dv5 / dv6 / dv7 webcam not detected - one (possible) solution

There are SO many posts on webcams - here is something for those of you who no longer have warranties and need help.
    Background:
I just purchased a new dv7 - no webcam detected!  I tried everything I could think of and ended up sending the system in for service last week.  Tech hinted that the connection may be loose (not the end at the mother board, the other end, next to the camera).  Sad, that.  I am still pawing through the posts looking to see if I'd missed anything that I could have tried.
Found this post all the way back from February 2011 from NotBuggy - Read on: this solution might work for you:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Windows-7-64-bit-Webcam-Drivers-for-dv5t-1000/td-p/46...
NotBuggy's first post descibes the initial issue.  At the bottom of that post is the "Solution" link.  For those interested, there may be helpful hints from other members in the answers NotBuggy received.
As NotBuggy says, this is not for the "faint of heart" - you will need to take apart your system and risk damage.  Proceed only if other avenues are closed.
    Good Luck!

Sounds your webcam has failed and you need to replace it. Did you uninstall and reboot and reinstall the driver/software again and the same problem was there? If so then you need a replacement webcam.

  • Integrated Webcam Not Detected

For about 5-6 months, my webcam hasn't been detected on my Pavilion dv4 4141us notebook. It wasn't that big of an issue, as I didn't use it much, but I thought I better get it fixed at some point. This error occured when I still had Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit), and I'm currently on Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit). If I go into computer management, the only device listed in imaging devices, is my HP Envy printer, and not my webcam. Operating system: Windows 8.1 Pro (64 bit)Model: HP Pavilion dv4 4141usProduct number: QE010UA#ABA

Both my integrated and my logitech webcam don't work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both drivers and they both show up in the device manager all while "working properly". the microphones function, but not the cameras.
Any suggestions that don't involve a clean installation of windows 7?
