HP Tx2000 keyboard + touchpad stopped responding

My keyboard and touchpad stopped working after I got home from work. The keyboard was still working before I turned off for work. I have already tried the "pull out battery" method that I have found on google, but I have no luck.
There's only one method that work for me so far: disabling and then enabling it in the Device Manager every time I restart my computer. My keyboard would work again, however, doing the same thing does not help my touchpad. In fact, each time I put my laptop to sleep, my keyboard would stop functioning again. The device manager only works once, so I would have to restart my computer in order for me to type on the keyboard...
There's a few things that I want to mention:
- I believe that this is not a hardware problem, because I was able to access bios with the keyboard
- The tablet function no longer works. My monitor wasn't functioning few months ago, my friend fixed it and told me that a cable was loose. Since then my touchscreen stopped working and wouldn't go into tablet mode. (I don't really use it this function so that's ok)
I just want to get my keyboard working again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if it's downloaded on your system without corruption I would try running it in Safemode, just tap the "f8" key while booting up.
If you suspect the download had an issue then download it again or download on another system and copy to your using a USB key.
BTW what happened when you tried to run it?

My Macbook built-in keyboard has stopped responding, (even caps lock light does not come on). What can I do as cannot even login to computer?
There has been no spillage and it has not been dropped.

Do you have access to a USB wired Apple (or maybe even a PC) keyboard?
That may be used to help troubleshoot the internal keyboard and on startup
be able to access (or see if you can) the System, and attempt to see about
troubleshooting. See if it will start in SafeBoot, (shift key held down just after
startup tone, if it runs in safeboot, then login to see if you can read system
logs in Console) and another idea may be to attempt to start in Recovery &
then attempt to use OS X Utilities there to see if you can verify and then to
repair the hard disk drive, and do some checks on the hardware.

Was the computer an Apple official refurbished unit bought direct from Apple?
Did you get an extended warranty from Apple - if it were directly bought there?
Usually these are online purchases from Apple Store; other companies offer
repaired or restored used computers and call them 'refurbished' or they may
have bought actual refurbished from Apple stock; these may be resold on ebay
or via amazon, and may or may not have a residual warranty of some kind.
In some cases the keyboard may fail due to some connection on the logic board
not fitting correctly, or some other loose wire; however if the battery may have
swollen, that could contribute to issues with both trackpad and keyboard.
A visit to an authorized Apple service provider is recommended, or contact the
seller you bought yours from to ask if they may offer suggestions or perhaps a
discount on diagnostic + repair if there is no warranty on the product.

  • Keyboard/Trackpad stop responding; OS still functional

    Hi
I recently got a new retina Macbook pro 13" on Tuesday (arrived Thursday). Everything has been functional until late on Friday, where the keyboard and trackpad input stopped responding. The operating system in the background continue to work (I was watching a youtube video at the time which kept playing, and a file I was transferring via SFTP gave a notification when complete). While the system is in this unresponsive input state, plugging a usb mouse/keyboard does not work - they otherwise work fine. To resolve, I had to reboot the laptop through via the power button.
There is no messages in the console that suggests anything obvious in the Console, but maybe i'm just missing something.
    Anyone else experienced this?
    OS X 10.9, late 2013 rMBP 13".

Many people are experiening this problem rght now. It is not due to the new MacBook you bought but rather that the new operating system "Mavericks" has some glitches. They should be fixed soon so be looking for an update. Best of Luck!

I am also using 10.10.1 with macbook air.

  • Mouse buttons and keyboard randomly stop responding on secondary display

    Hey,
I'm facing this weird problem after a recent upgrade to Snow Leopard:
In about half of the cases I'm switching to application windows on a secondary/external display the mouse buttons and Macbook keyboard are unresponsive. I have to keep clicking/pressing for some time or have to switch between applications to get them working, until they'll fail again after some time.
I tested it with two different external displays with VGA and DVI adapter, different screen resolutions, I tested the mouse and mouse software, both keyboard and mouse work fine with the same applications moved to the primary laptop screen, trackpad works fine too.
This occurred after the upgrade to Snow Leopard on a 2008 unibody Macbook. Updates to 10.6.2 didn't solve the problem.
I'd be happy if anyone could help me with this issue.
    Thanks

You do not provide the full model number but if it is an AMD processor you are seeing the start of video issues that plague that series. The freeze is caused by bad video memory which is a part of the video card in turn part of the motherboard. I have been getting a high percentage of people who do not respond back to posts so I am not going to write everything about your issue; it could be a book. I am happy to help further if you have any questions. There are some repair options but at the end of the day, you might want to consider a new laptop.

  • My number pad on my aluminum keyboard has stopped responding. How can I get the response back?

Once I press a number key on the pad, the rest of the keyboard also fails to respond, especially when I'm in Chrome on the internet. I'm wondering if it has to do with the browser, too, since once I force quit and go to Safari, the cursor works--but not the keypad, unfortunately. Now, even the numbers on the keyboard don't work.  Any help out there?
    Thanks.
    Joanne

Found the answer in Apple Support: the Mouse key was turned on in Universal access. Once I turned it off, I got the use of the keyboard back.
Oops; nope, that didn't work as I expected, either. The keypad works in some spaces but not in all; for example, when I try to enter numbers to change information in my profile, numbers won't type. But they do in other spaces.

  • My Apple Bluetooth keyboard has stopped responding after working fine for 1 month with a Mini.

Both Mini (2.5/4 GB; 10.7.3 with all s/ware up to date) and Apple keyboard were bought new and at the same time (March 2012). Both paired up with no problems and worked together happily until 2 days ago.
Took keyboard to Apple reseller; worked fine with other machines there.
Returned with Mini; Mini and keyboard worked fine there too.
Came home; Mini and keyboard worked fine that afternoon and the following morning. Then they stopped again ...
Battery power=100%. Under Bluetooth prefs, all is well: paired, configured, connected.
    Any ideas for a fix?

I know this is going to sound simplistic, but bear with me.
Have you tried another pair of new batteries?
New like in an unopened package of Duracell batteries?
No commercials, just go as opposite as possible.
    Hope this helps.

  • Portege z30t touchpad stops responding

I have a Toshiba Portege z30t-A running Windows 8.1  The Touchpad will frequently stop working - more specifically it will not move the mouse cursor.  Clicking still works.  Sometimes it stays like this for only 10-20 seconds, sometimes for several minutes or indefinitely. It is not the "Fn-F9" issue.  The "Touchpad Disabled" light never comes on and trying Fn-F9 doesn't solve the problem.  I've deleted drivers, reinstalled them, etc to no avail and have also disabled all of the TouchGuard features, problem still happens. Thoughts on how to fix this? I would just use the AccuPoint instead but in a related problem, when the AccuPoint is enabled, the mouse cursor just moves all over the screen by itself.  Absolutely pitiful, Toshiba.  Of course both of these problems started about a month after the warranty ran out.

    Hello again Khuzaima,
Thank you for the updated information on your issue. As the issue is happening on both your operating systems I suspect it is either a result of the dual boot, or it is a hardware issue.
Now there are BIOS updates available for your computer the last being HP Notebook System BIOS Update (Intel Processors), which you can run to see if it is an issue in the BIOS.
The next step would be to use the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), to back up your personal files and then use the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8), to recover your computer back to factory settings.
***NOTE: This will erase your ENTIRE hard drive so you will loose your Fedora operating system and anything contained within as well. You may want to back it up as well if you have files you are concerned about.
If the factory recovery is done and the issue persists then the issue appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.
If the factory recovery resolves the issue then it is related to your dual boot with Fedora and unfortnately I cannot assist with that. At least at this point you know what is causing it and can look for a solution.
I would like to thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!
Please click the "Thumbs Up" on the bottom right of this post to say thank you if you appreciate the support I provide!

  • My keyboard suddenly stopped responding? I can still click, but I can't scroll or type with any of the keys

Like it says, I was typing my homework and it just stopped working. Everything else is fine. I can still use the trackpad to move the cursor and click, but I can not scroll or zoom in. I'm mainly concerned about my keyboard though, anything I can do?

  • Mid 2013 macbook air keyboard/trackpad stop responding

    I have a mid-2013 13" Macbook Air - 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM - 1.7Ghz i7
I spend a good deal of time working at my home, where I have two external monitors (one via USB, one via the thunderbolt port) and a bluetooth wireless mouse and keyboard.  Things are great.
I also go on the road, and when I do, I simply unplug my monitors, close the lid, and go.
Lately, I've had some very odd behavior happen which acts a lot like what is described in the latest 13" Macbook Pro Retina EFI fix:  http://www.macrumors.com/2013/11/07/apple-releases-fix-for-13-inch-retina-macboo k-pro-keyboardtrackpad-issues/
Here's what happens....when I'm traveling and away from my bluetooth keyboard/mouse, I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive.  I can press the power button and get it to turn off...power it back on and am able to use the keyboard to control various boot options (diagnostics, single-user, safe-mode, recovery model, etc).  Booting up full, however, the issue will still exist.  Looking at the console log, when this is happening, there are a ton (about 4000 every minute) of the following :
11/1/13 7:45:26.000 PM kernel[0]: Error: AppleHSSPIController::doSPITransfer CRC from device was invalid
11/1/13 7:45:26.000 PM kernel[0]: Error: AppleHSSPIController::InterruptOccurred Failed to transfer interrupt data with Err (0xe00002eb)
Eventually, something happens and things start to work -- I will generally see the following in the console log when it starts working:
    11/1/13 7:45:27.000 PM kernel[0]: Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad::start Start Succeeded
If I let the machine sit at the unlock screen, eventually a dialog comes up and says "unable to find external bluetooth keyboard/mouse..."  It says it will continue to search and will pair with one eventually....it's the same message I would get from my mac mini if it couldn't find the bluetooth keyboard (and has no internal/hardwired keyboard).
When it is happening, I can use "cmd-r" to boot into recovery mode and recovery mode will complain about not having a mouse/trackpad - yet the keyboard seems to work to control what happens at boot time.
I called Apple and got sent to the apple store with a "it sounds like a faulty logic board or a connection that needs soldering".  The Apple Store "genius" didn't quite think that was the case and has instead suggested I re-install the operating system.  I'm non-plussed by both suggestions. This has happened both before and after Mavericks...
On one of my latest trips, I had a case where I took my laptop out on the plane to try to use it...only to have this issue occur.  I landed, got to the hotel, tried again and everything worked fine.  Went to dinner - leaving my laptop on the desk plugged in - only to come back to have the keyboard unresponsive....  I've now resorted to traveling with my bluetooth keyboard and mouse "just in case".
    Any ideas/thoughts?

I will open up my MBA and the trackpad and internal keyboard are unresponsive.
Do four things to test for fault on this,
    reset SMC ,
    reset NVRAM,
uncheck "put hard disks to sleep"
and UNPAIR both your bluetooth mouse and keyboard from this Mac that you are using with it currently.
yes, the notion that your logic board is at fault is extremely unlikely, additionally (though far more likely) that your Mavericks OS is corrupt.
    RESET SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    RESET NVRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Lastly, go into SYS PREFERENCES > ENERGY > uncheck "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in both tabs.
Let your Mac go into sleep or close the lid for a few mins. and reopen and verify that your trackpad and mouse are fine.  They should be after this,.........
If not contact Apple for full in shop diagnostic, theyll run a hardware test (unlikely causation) and reinstall the OS, then retest and LASTLY replace the logic board (very unlikely).

  • Keyboard (USB) stopped responding ... and then it did. What's it mean?

I had 2 external HDs attached via firewire and USB connections and was copying something from one to the other.  I've done this before with no issues.
When I went to use the keyboard to check the backup (command I - for get info) I got no response from the keyboard.
The backup completed successfully, but no response from the keyboard.  I couldn't type commands, or write anything in a doc or in Google's search field.
I unplugged the 2 HDs.  I unplugged my USB printer.  The only thing I left connected was the keyboard and the USB receiver for the mouse.
    I repaired permissions.
I put new batteries in the mouse (USB Logitech) just in case that was the problem.
    Still no response.
I came to our MBP to type this question and let the iMac sit and think about it. I did nothing else to it while I panicked over here.
Mr H, with the magic touch, went to the iMac - opened a new text edit doc and started typing - no problem, opened Google - typed into search field - no problem.  I couldn't get either of these to do anything.
I was afraid to shut down or restart since I wouldn't be able to log in (though I do have it currently set to login automatically, so I guess I would be logged in and I could shut down or restart)
Any ideas on what this is all about and what/if I need to do anything?
Repair permissions showed a lot of things out of place, but showed it repaired things successfully.  I had recently updated firefox but did a repair after doing the update (manually) and had no problems.
Did my 2 HDs together cause a problem though it's never done so before?

    Rudegar wrote:...
held down the button on the back the on/off button and closed and started it again and all was well again
    try it
    Thanks, Rudegar, for the suggestion.
But as I said above, "Mr H, with the magic touch, went to the iMac - opened a new text edit doc and started typing - no problem, opened Google - typed into search field - no problem..." which is to say the problem has solved itself by just regrouping itself after all peripherals were detatched and HDs no longer involved?  We'll see if it reproduces itself next time I do this HD-HD copy.
I don't know why it's fixed, but since all is well, the permissions are repaired, and I've put it to sleep and awakened it, and it's still running fine (indeed I'm typing on the iMac now), I am loathe to do anything to solve a problem that seems to no longer exist.
If things go awry I will first try a restart or perhaps just shut down from the Apple menu.  As I said I was worried about doing this fearing I'd have to log in and not be able to do it - but the auto login setting works to my advantage here.
Anyone else have any ideas on what went wrong???
    Thanks again,

  • Keyboard and touchpad stop working

    Hi everyone.
I've used my HP Mini 2140 Notebook PC for about two months. Two days ago, while I was working, the keyboard and touchpad stopped responding so I couldn't do anything. The computer kept "working" though. The computer won't go into sleep-mode when I try that; it just fades out the screen and hangs. Since then, this has started happening at total random.
I've tried this across two installations of Vista Home, and have uninstalled/reinstalled device drivers. I noticed that whenever this happens, the laptop's fan accellerates to what seems like full blast, and keeps going like that until I force the power off.
I've tried unplugging the AC adapter and battery, holding the power switch to drain power from circuits and booting up again, both with AC only and battery only. Neither of these things helped.
Wondering if anyone has seen or heard of a similar problem? Very frustrating.

Have EXACT same problem! Only my keyboard and touch pad freeze up after I have let computer run without touching it for several minutes!
Have no problem if I continually use keys or touch pad!
Have extended power saver times to over 5 hours with no help!

  • Keyboard stops responding only with InDesign CS5.5

Hi there. I have a problem with the keyboard - only when using InDesign CS5.5. Periodically (several times an hour) my keyboard will stop responding, that is to say that no shortcuts work at all, until I select Save (which I can't even do with Ctr+S). Ok it only takes a moment to save, but any idea why this could happen? The keyboard is a reputable brand and installed correctly, and all other applications work fine.

Under Windows the keyboard can seem to go dead if you have an alternate input method installed and you hit the keyboard combination that triggers it (note that each applications retains the input method settings you assigned it).  After years of working with East Asian input systems it can still take me a while to figure this out: I type an e-mail in English, but when I return to ID the keystrokes disappear into the Chinese input system I'd forgotten I was using.
Or perhaps your keyboard shortcuts got scrambled.  Does resetting preferences re-set these as well?
    Good luck,
    David

  • Satellite P840 Win8 - touchpad intermittently stop responding

Hi, I've had my new laptop for 24 hours, and I've experienced twice a situation whereby the touchpad stops responding permanently, requiring the machine to be reboot (which "resolves" the problem). In addition to that, I've been experiencing intermittent freezes in response for about 3-4 seconds, then it starts responding again.
It's brand spanking new, so this is pretty disappointing. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, is there a fix that doesn't involve returning the unit?
    Cheers,
    Pete

    Hi
Did you notice the same using a connected USB mouse?
Im asking this because from my point of view the touchpad or the system could freezes for some seconds because of stressed CPU.
In many cases the system doesnt response because some processes running in the background stresses the CPU and this leads to such system freezing.
I would not be worry about that check if the system is up to date and if all updates are installed.
In case this issue would not be related to the mentioned background process, try to update the touchpad driver.
Check the Toshiba EU driver page in order to get the latest touchpad driver or visit the Synaptics driver page in order to get the driver directly from touchpad manufacturer page.
