Hi My computer is trying to download an update and repeatedly fails. No problem with windows or microsoft updates which load as they should do.The HP Update fails every time. The following error message is generated: Hewlett-Packard  - Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware - Null Print - HP ENVY 4500 series Installation date: ‎11/‎04/‎2014 06:35 Installation status: Failed Error details: Code 80070490 Update type: Recommended Hewlett-Packard  Enterprise WSD Multi-Function Printer, Other hardware software update released in December, 2012 More information:http://sysdev.microsoft.com/support/default.aspx Help and Support:http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=hub Any words of wisdom appreciatted even how to cancel the update. Many thanks GKH

Through some searching I was able to find a solution to this  I found it here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/error-0x8024200b-when-windows-update-runs-after/83b18118-ac33-4970-bc58-2cc8c5d87296?auth=1&rtAction=1439265391782with JamieXS comment.Quote: "Here what I did. From Settings, search for "Device Manager".  Under Printers I had 2 "Unidentified Printers".  I Right Clicked & uninstalled both. Run Windows Update again & failed update had gone, however I was unable to print anymore. Back to Settings Initial Window & select Devices, then Printers & Scanners.  I removed all entries for HP Printers, Fax etc. I then selected "Add a printer or scanner" from the top of the Printers & Scanners Menu.  It searched & found My Officejet Pro 6830. I then double clicked the HP Officejet Pro 6830 Icon on My Desktop & it installed the Printer again. All now working & no more failed Windows Updates :-) " For myself I found I had 2 Networked printers ( 1 under fax and 1 printer) and another printer (all 5740) I deleted the 2 network and kept the regular one. Re-ran the update and no more errors! checked and my printer works fine both on my desktop here and on my networked laptop, so I did not have to reinstall anything. I hope that this helps anyone else out there that is getting the same errors.

  • Software Update fails repeatedly, loses PPPoE

MacBook Pro, 10.6.8, AirPort Extreme router, AT&T DSL.
Trying to update software in last two days has failed within seconds every time I click "install [x] item[s]".  Other internet access is fine, and I've made no changes to my router, modem, or DSL service -- all of which have been in place for many months. Downloading songs from iTunes and PDFs from websites works. My iPod Touch seems fine.
Shortly after I start a download from Software Update, progress on the current file stops, my AirPort "time connected" monitor freezes then disappears, and eventually Software Update says it couldn't complete the download.  The AirPort icon shows "Looking for PPPoE host" then "Connected via PPPoE" and the time monitor reappears and starts counting again.  However, when I restart the download in Software Update, the same thing happens again.
Using advice on apparently related topics, I tried adding OpenDNS servers in my Network config, but it made no visible difference.
(Note: I also lose the PPPoE connection when waking up the laptop, but that's intermittent and I can recover manually if necessary.  This Software Update failure is consistent, completely repeatable, and an apparent dead end.)

Downloaded and applied the firmware patch directly - on the second attempt it did actually succeeded.
Not sure why this has been such an issue as all other software applies without issue. Any way if you have this issue search the support site for the firmware download and apply yourself.

  • IOS 7.3 update fails repeatedly?

I know I'm a bit late to installing this.... But I've tried a few times now, and the download repeatedly fails half way through.
I've read that you can download via iTunes to resolve this problem, but for some reason my PC is now failing to recognise my iPhone when plugged in (even though it beeps / charges).
I've gone through all of Apple's support page about the connectivity issue and have reached a blank.
I don't know whether this is an error with my phone itself, or if it's just unstable because I've not been able to do the iOS update?
Either way, I'm out of warranty, so Apple *helpfully* won't give me any advice without a £25 charge.
    Please help!

I've gone through all of Apple's support page about the connectivity issue and have reached a blank.
Without being specific about what you tried, there's no way for anyone here to know exactly what you read or tried. Be sure to do everything in this support article, including Apple Mobile Device Support, Service, and USB driver sections

FYI, there is no iOS 7.3.  You want iOS 7.0.3, right?

  • Creative cloud photoshop update fails repeatedly.

I just installed Photoshop CC after purchasing CC for Photographers. After installing, the desktop app indicated an update for photoshop. Update and Retry failed. Message reads Retry or contact customer support (49). Can't launch application. Please help.

I originally was directed to Adobe support and signed into and was waiting for chat. There was a message and a link directing me specifically here by Adobe support to seek answers while I waited for them. I wouldn't even have know to come here if not directed by their link. I won't do that in the future. Adobe support leaves a lot to be desired as they posted a notice that phone lines were not working properly and the chat was never answered.

  • HP Envy 4500 scanner is busy

Suddenly, it is no longer possible to make a scan (or copy) on my HP Envy 4500 All-in-one.
A Windows 7 desktop, Windows 8 notebook and Android 4.4 all report errors, originating from the respective HP software/app. In addition, Windows 7 itself reports an error as well. All messages refer to the scanner being "busy" or mention another scan operation being in progress. However, no scan is taking place from any device. Initiating a scan or copy from the device itself doesn't work either.
The errors persists on both USB and Wifi connections. Printing works just fine.
I tried updating the firmware, but the updater cannot proceed because there is a "problem" with the device. HP Print and Scan Doctor fails at the second step ("Controle stuurprogramma", meaning "driver check"). Reboot does not help. Restoring factory defaults from the device's screen does not help. Resetting the device by pulling the plug while the device is powered on does not help. Reïnstalling the full driver does not help. Removing and re-adding the device to windows doesn't either.
I tried all steps on the HP support page [1,2] that Print and Scan Doctor directed me to. Did not work.
This is a refurbished Envy 4500 I got from HP because my original device was DOA (dead on arrival). I'm getting the impression the refurbished device was faulty and is faulty still.
Kindly request HP support staff to provide me with a solution.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @dpx ,
I read your post about how you cannot make scans or even copies. First of all, thank you for your detailed post, the information really helps. Unfortunately, it sounds to be a scanner failure, as you cannot copy or scan. I have a guide that I would like to recommend for your troubleshooting and I hope it helps!

If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions: click here.

  • HP ENVY 4500: Wirelesss Setup Will Not Recognize Correct Password!

I recently attempted to establish a wireless connection for a HP ENVY 4500 and I could not get the printer to accept the CORRECT wireless network password.  This is the second such printer like this that I have set up and I have one
    additional one to go.
Going through the onscreen wireless setup provesss, I found the network (SSID) name okay.  Repeated attempts of entering the correct password failed with error messages indicating the password was not recognized.  The password has upper case/cap letters, lower case letters, numbers and common keyboard characters all of which were found on the printer's password input panels.  I even tried the modem/router's original default password and it did not work.
The only difference between my last printer set up and this one is a different type of internet service (formerly cable, later DSL, and the modem/router control panels look differently).  On the current DSL modem/router, I am using the default security settings.
I know most readers of this posting will think I must not be entering the password correctly but I am.  I have paid attention to every proper character of the password especially caps.  I was able to connect other devices to the wireless network with no problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions for trouble-shooting?  Thanks and I look forward to your responses.

I share your concern about WPS as it is easy to crack and doesn't take long to retrieve the network key.  Making matters worse, even turning it off on some routers doesn't disable the vulnerability.  That is the case with every Linksys router I've checked.  But you can connect by WPS and then turn it off.  If it is not a Linksys router you will probably be ok and even if it is a Linksys router you are no worse off than you were before.  The WPS attack is a brute force attack and takes some time (in the hours category which is relatively quick for a brute force attack) so leaving WPS on for a few minutes is pretty safe.  Another thing came to mind after reading your post, are you sure you have the right SSID?  If there are many people nearby and you used a common or default SSID name like "Linksys", then the printer may not be connected to the network you think it is.  The other thing I would recommend is changing the wireless channel used by the router but to do that you would need access to the router's EWS which it sounds like you do not have.  You might want to ask Century Link about how to access it.  I can't image not being able to access the router on my home network.  You might want to ask them for options.  Router's are cheap.  I would buy my own if the ISP wouldn't give me access to the one they provide.  Let me know how it goes.

  • Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 update failed to install

Received an automatic update. When I clicked to install, the update returned this message:
    Installation Incomplete
Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.2 update failed to install
The update cannot be applied to the product.
    Say what?
I'm at Illustrator CS3 13.0.1. First time an CS3 update dug in its heels and sneered back at me.
Anybody got a clue about this? Bad update?

Ok, guys. This is going to be a bit loose, but may help. It is how I got a failed CS3 update to install. I think but am not sure that the install initially failed due to inadequate free space on one of the relevant partitions. I then believe but am not sure that the retract procedure, which is pretty good in general, messed up the registry 'slightly'.
    - first, the 'this installation failed' was driving me insane, of course. So finally I tracked down that there are logs, and where they are. Translating from a German XP, you will find those logs in: C:\Documents and Settings\YourLoginName\Applications Data\Adobe\PatcherLogs. There's one for each of your CS3 applications, and they are in text, so open the one matching your trouble.
    - these logs get huge, if you've made multiple tries, as they contain every detail. Search for the word ERROR and you will probably find the point of trouble. Time and date stamps may help to locate an episode. There is also a phrase "Patching fails, Rolling back the changes done by the patcher..." which you can look for, which shows just after the original ERROR. There's another message (improperly?) marked ERROR just after, which comments 'Set status to rollback'.
    - Ok, now you can see Adobe's idea why the patcher failed. In my case, it said: "Access denied to the registry key: DeviceCentral.advs\shell\Open\command".
    - Well, in Microspeak that is probably pretty clear, to someone. I went looking for that key using Regedit search, helped by the cue a few lines above in the log saying "Regsirty Hive: HKCR". Presumably they meant 'Registry'.
    - Obligatory message right now. If you have a log like this, and don't grok the Registry well, and know what you want to do about backups, etc., you should stop before even opening Regedit. Get someone who is very dependable and knowledgeable to do a fix for you. Have complete full reinstall backups. Etc.. Better safe than having to reinstall windows from a wiped disk, all your applications, recover all your precious data from right now where you crashed it, etc.. That valuable client project...
    - Anyway, you would know what to do about the one or two key permissions if you are qualified, so would do that. In my case it was two keys which had had their owner (me) permissions completely removed.
    - I mention and explain this detail so Adobe can explain it to their likely installer-builders, who seem somehow very likely to be outsourced and offshore. I have directed such groups, and don't envy the process. But something about the unwind procedure I think broke those permissions. And something about the patch procedure didn't preflight to assure there was enough disk space before getting in deep, which is the preventative side of the problem, or so I think. But I think both sides of the problem need to get fixed, unless the unwind failure might have been in an inability to write the registry.
    - I will refrain from comments I made at the time which show my length of service ;)
    - with all this buried under the layers of 'Automatic updater' activity which really hid any clues, I have to wonder why Adobe doesn't have some method for extracting the failure at least from logs, so this could be given to the support techs.
    - I am also wondering just when and if I will truncate that log. After 5 or so tries getting to the root of issue, I now have just one of the logs at the 33MB point...
    - all this was about something I will probably not use, or much besides prototyping something for a product design, Device Central. But it is very annoying, not to say concerning about futures of a big expensive and very useful package, CS3, to have repeated big failures in the update mechanism. Good to have run it to ground. And I don't do tech stuff for a long time, which shows the level of concern this caused.
    - So, Adobe, please make a better situation for your many and varied 'users'. Thank you.
A nice holiday season to all, long may it last you (into Asian new year).

  • HP Envy 4500 - no black print

I bought an HP Envy 4500 and during setup found no black color in Alignment page, Test page and Quality Report printouts.
I returned to the shop and after heated discussion they refused to do a straight swap but I was able to return the printer in exchange for a credit voucher.
I then bought another HP Envy 4500 from the same store using the credit voucher .
During setup of the second printer I found the same problem - no black prinout - only color and gray.
I have tried reseating the black cartridge and running Clean printhead - but no improvement.
I am reluctant to spend more money on a fresh black cartridge just to see if that solves the problem because new cartridges cost half as much as the printer!
Back to the store for another argument?
Not a good signfor HP quality.

    Update.
I took the second faulty printer to another branch of the store - this one has a "workshop" - and they investigated. They found that replacing the black ink cartridge solved the problem; so this suggests that a faulty batch of black ink cartridges has been used.
When I went back to collect my printer (remember this is the 2nd one) they found it was missing - another customer had also left one to be fixed and when shewent in to collect hers they mistakelnly gave her mine.
So the store gave me a new one as replacement, plus a spare black ink cartridge just in case.
So now I have the third printer. On setting up it seemed to work a bit better than the previous 2, but pretty soon the black ink failed and almost stopped completely. Swapping to the new black cartridge they had given me solved the problem and now the printer seems fine.
So 3 instances of the printer, even from different stores, have had faulty black ink cartridges. I noticed the ones included with the printer are labelled "Made in China" whilst the extra one I was given is "Made in Ireland".
