HP Utility Application - Edit Scan Tab

Things were always smooth sailing with my HP Photosmart 5520 printer/scanner/copier until of course I needed to update the printer software when I downloaded Mavericks. Anyhoo ---Under the Show Details tab there once were options for potrait or landscape, black & white, grayscale, color, etc. Now all I get when I click the: Show Details tab is to select least or best option for quality so all my scan, which I can do scan in black and white regarless if the original is a document with color. When I've uninstalled the application and restalled the application I can still scan, but again the various option will not return. Has anyone had the same problem with a solution? Thanks.

Hi,
From the Applications folder open the Hewlett-Packard folder nd move the HP Scan application to the trash, then empty the trash.
Install the HP Easy Scan app from the Mac App Store instead, that can be downloaded from the following link:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-easy-scan/id967004861?mt=12
Now try scanning and check for ny difference, it should become color by default.
As well check the options which should becomve available while editing the scan tasks, any options should becomne available.

Is it possible to edit scanned documents that are saved as pdf files? I know the search or find command do not work on scanned documents. Our office is going paperless but there are times that we need to go back to the original document and make changes instead of reproducing the original, making the changes and then creating a new document

you'd need a good OCR (Optical Character Recognition) application to convert the images to text first.
After that, you'd probably want to export the text to something like a Word document for editing.
Most of the time it's easier just to recreate the document.

Opening application from Tracking tab of UWL

I am editing XML to open WDA application from "Tracking" tab of UWL .
But when I click the link of tasks on "Tracking" tab , explanation of the task is displayed by popup .
I want to open WDA application which displayed data gotten from SAP by workitem ID .
On task tab , links of "Task" tab work collectly , display the WDA application and passed workitem ID .
My procedure is described below .
1. I added the entry at SWFVISU to output the WDA application from "Task" tab .
2. I downloaded uwl.webflow.UWLSETXXX.XML file .
3. On the XML file , I copied entries made by the first process , and I modified the source .
I update just name and defaultview .

after: <ItemType name="uwl.task.webflow.WS91000001"
I had seen UWL support Information of "Tracking" tab items .
Item type of "Tracking" tab is like "uwl.task.webflow.WS91000001" . It does not contain system ID ".UWLSETXXX" .
It is difference "Task" tab and "Tracking" tab .

before : defaultView="DefaultView"
after : defaultView="WorkItemRequestsView"
4. I upload the XML file as the new name "uwl.webflow.UWLSETXXX_new" .
5. Clear cashes .
I notified that there is not "Item type configration name" in UWL support information of "Tracking" tab .
But UWL support information of "Task" tab has the data : uwl.webflow.UWLSETXXX_new in "Item type configration name" .
Does it matter ?

how can I edit text tabs in Photoshop like in Illustrator that I can choose to view the tab rulers and edit the alignment on the tabs?
is it possible? otherwise I can't understand why I can use the tabs at all...

No, tab-formatted text is not editable in the manner you desire. As for your question - tab is just a character like any other. You are simply taking a given kind of implementation for granted, nothing more, but that must not necessarily be the case for all programs. An evil programmer just could assign the tab key to forward delete or any other fancy function just as he could make your space key draw funky symbols from a different Unicode range, if you get my meaning... so simply take it the way it is. Under System: out of 2GB - 54.7MB free; 530MB wired; 603MB active; 862MB inactive; 1.95GB used.
Is too much of the system memory tied up? If so, what can I do to free some up?

Disk Utility: Application Fails To Open / Must Force Quit

Hi-
My Disk Utility application opens but hangs on the "Gathering Disk Information" screen and I get the spinning wheel of doom. I let it spin for minutes/hours and it doesn't seem to matter. I have to Force Quit to get out of it.
I searced for a preference file to try trashing it and creating a new one but no luck in my search by name.
Any help would be great. Thanks!

It sounds like it's hanging on the disk check.
Boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
Restore from TM backup
Reinstall Mac OS X
Get help online
Disk Utility
Run Disk Utility > Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed".

How to switch between 2 windows of the same application using Cmd+Tab

Hi,
I am using my mac now since about 10 months. I was used to work with Linux and Windows XP.
Something I am badly missing on mac os x is the possibility to switch between 2 windows of the same application using cmd + tab just like it simply works for Linux and Windows (and maybe many other OS out there!).
Very often I have 2 text files open in 2 editor windows (e.g. TextEdit) and need to copy and paste text from one window to the other. I was used to simply use ALT+TAB. But here I have to get my right hand away from the keyboard and use the mouse to change the focus from one window to the other and then use the mouse again to get the focus back to the previous TextEdit windows.
THIS REALLY *****!!!! It makes me crazy. I cannot believe that such a "modern" OP does not support this action. I must be doing something completely wrong or did not understand the mac correctly. Right?
Does anyone have an idea how I can get mac to do something all other operating systems so easily do?

well what you are saying is obvious to me. This is not the point for me and not what I wanted to know. But I think you answered my question anyway: OS X is unable to switch between windows of the same application as I mentioned in my example.
WHY NOT???
Every other OS is able to differentiate between windows and not just applications.
Another example: The Mail application and an Email editor window. When you are writing an Email and you want to switch to the main window of the Mail application to read something you must again use the mouse!
I mean Apple seems to be "somehow" using FreeBSD in the background and even in FreeBSD's window manager it is possible to switch between windows of the same application.
Well, in the Apple world it is always the pour user who is not intelligent enough to understand Apple's philosophy ;-(
To me this is not modern, it is simply a weakness of the OS.

We are using Contribute CS4 for editing spry tabs content, But after study I have figured that we can't edit
sprytabs using Contribue CS4

Editing scanned pics

Sometimes I cannot edit scanned pix in Photo Gallery - even some I've already edited before. At other times there's no problem. There must be something I'm missing -- suggestions welcome!

It's up to your images editor software. Probably all of them can only edit image file formats such as TIFF, JPG ... Please make sure you ONLY scan images as jpg or jpeg files, not pdf files or even TIFF files.

This application "HP Scan" cannot be opened

I just updated to Yosemite on my MAC. Since then, I haven't been able to use my printer. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall it. Now when I click on it, I get the message, "this application "HP Scan" cannot be opened". So I've tried to click on "uninstall" from the applications menu, I get the same message. I've tried to scan directly from the printer, it won't allow me to, says I need to do it from my computer. I have a HP Photosmart D110A, used it without problems prior to updating to Yosemite. I've also tried unplugging and plugging in the cord from the printer to the computer, as it can be wireless. Doesn't make a difference. What can I do to resolve this?

Hi Kelly,
The HP Scan application is not avaialble for your printer for Yosemite and not intended for the operating system.
First open the Applications folder and then the Hewlett-Packard folder, select Uninstall and completely remove the HP software.
Additionally, manually remove any reminder of the incompatible software, so that will not prevent getting the correct software:
From the computer desktop, double-click the Macintosh HD icon.
Double-click the Library folder.
Double-click the Printers folder.
Right-click the HP folder, and then select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
Double-click the PPDs folder.
Double-click the Contents folder.
Double-click the Resources folder.
Locate your printer in the printer list by searching for D110, and then right-click on your printer and select Move to Trash.
When prompted, type the Administrator name and Password for the computer, and then click OK. Wait for authentication to complete.
Click the Trash icon on the taskbar, click the Empty button, and then click OK to empty the trash.
On the upper-left corner of the computer desktop, click the Apple menu icon (), and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
Double-click Printers & Scanners.
In the Printers list, click your HP printer, and then click the Minus button () to delete it.
Note: a such may no longer be listed. simply skip this step if the printer was already removed.
Next, follow these steps to install the printer on Yosemite, the drivers are availble via Apple Software Update:

Can I use the Disk Utility Application to backup Bootcamp that has Windows 7 on it? If I install a new blank drive, I would like to know that using Time Machine I can get the MAC OS back and using the Disk Image Utility I can restore Bootcamp with Windows 7.

NO.
You have to use Windows or a Windows utility.
There are programs that will clone an entire drive (sector) as well.
DU does not though. Paragon does support Boot Camp.

Iphoto crashes when editing scans

Hi,
I have scanned some old family photos and I am now trying to edit them (they are jpeg files). I've read many of the posts here and have followed every advice (newest iphoto version, rebuilt library, etc.....) Then I built the new library with a few of the scans imported and a few "regular" photos. Iphoto still crashes when trying to edit scans, but seems to be doing ok when editing the "regular" photos. Any advice?

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos or each, both the b/w and color scans and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it? It you don't crash when editing in the test library then your current library is damaged.
If that's the case apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.

Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Why does my Adobe Color Printer Utility application only allow me to print on A4?

I am finding the printer utility application for printing colour targets only allows me to print on A4. if i change the paper size to a custome size it reverts back to A4 when i Go to print. Is this just the way it works ?
If i want to send raw data files to the printer that are larger then A4 how can i do this .

What printer do you have, make & model?
Have you updated the driver, from the mfgr's. Web site?

Disk Utility missing the Erase tab

Tonight, I was attempting to reformat my Mac Mini FileVault encrypted hard drive. I have Mountain Lion 10.8 installed on it, and I have a bootable Mountain Lion USB stick.
I booted from the USB device, and first tried to format. Everything was greyed out. I had to "Unlock" the encrypted drive and then it was available.
I then tried to do an Erase, and it failed with an error I didn't catch, and then only "Macintosh HD" shows up (no volume below it in Disk Utility) and the Erase tab is unavailable. The Partition tab is also locked and nothing can be chosen.
I can Verify and Repair with no problems, but I am unable to repartition or erase the drive.
Any thoughts?

I ran in to this issue once again, when trying to clean install Mountain Lion on my MacBook. I rebooted to the Recovery partition, and tried to format/erase using Disk Utility and that failed and left the system where only the drive (Macintosh HD) would show up, and Erase was greyed out. I was unable to format using the command line due to seeing the message:
"The disk is in use by Core Storage as a Physical Volume"
I found a solution here:

See the post by Anderson, where he shows how to clobber this Core Storage volume:
Basically, you need to run diskutil CoreStorage list from Terminal. Identify the logical CoreStorage volume from that list and note the UUID string.
Then type diskutil CoreStorage delete UUID where UUID is the string you identified.
You can then partition with Disk Utility and run a Mountain Lion install.
This did the trick for me, and I was then able to 0-byte format the drive and do a clean install over the internet.
