HP Utility & Scan Software for Mac OS X Yosemite

I just bought a new Mac with Yosemite and cannot find the HP Scan or Utility software on the HP website for anything newer than OS 10.6.  If I try to run the installer for 10.6, I receive an error message that my OS is too new.  I am afraid I won't be able to scan without HP's software.
Any suggestions for my Photosmart c309-g?

Hi,
The HP Scan application is no longer available for your printer for later OS versions such as Yosemite, scanning however is do supported on the OS.
Follow Steps 1 and 2 which are applicable for your printer to install it on Yosemite:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04510394&tmp_task=setupCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...
Finnaly follow these steps to scan using the provided solutions such as Image Capture:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04467713&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=e...

  • Best virus software for mac OS 10.5.8?

What is best software for mac OS

    VIRUSES
No viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions.
It is possible, however, to pass on a Windows virus to another Windows user, for example through an email attachment. To prevent this all you need is the free anti-virus utility ClamXav, which you can download for Tiger and Leopard (check with them about Lion) from:
    http://www.clamxav.com/
The new version for Snow Leopard is available here:
    http://www.clamxav.com/index.php?page=v2beta
Note: ClamAV adds a new user group to your Mac. That makes it a little more difficult to remove than some apps. You’ll find an uninstaller link in ClamXav’s FAQ page online.
If you are already using ClamXav: please ensure that you have installed all recent  Apple Security Updates  and that your version of ClamXav is the latest available.
Do not install Norton Anti-Virus on a Mac as it can seriously damage your operating system. Norton Anti-Virus is not compatible with Apple OS X.
FAKE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE and associated MALWARE
Do not be tricked by 'scareware' that tempts computer users to download fake anti-virus software that may itself be malware.
Fake anti-virus software that infect PCs with malicious code are a growing threat, according to a study by Google. Its analysis of 240m web pages over 13 months showed that fake anti-virus programs accounted for 15% of all malicious software.
Scammers trick people into downloading programs by convincing them that their PC is infected with a virus.
Once installed, the software may steal data or force people to make a payment to register the fake product.
Beware of PDF files from unknown sources. A security firm announced that by its counting, malicious Reader documents made up 80% of all exploits at the end of 2009.:
    http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9157438/in which Rogue_PDFs_account_for_80_of_all_exploits_says_researcher
TROJANS and RE-DIRECTION TO FAKE WEBSITES
The appearance of Trojans and other malware that can possibly infect a Mac seems to be growing, but is a completely different issue to viruses.
If you allow a Trojan to be installed, the user's DNS records can be modified, redirecting incoming internet traffic through the attacker's servers, where it can be hijacked and injected with malicious websites and pornographic advertisements. The trojan also installs a watchdog process that ensures the victim's  (that's you!)  DNS records stay modified on a minute-by-minute basis.
You can read more about how, for example, the OSX/DNSChanger Trojan works (by falsely suggesting extra codecs are required for Quicktime) here:
    http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/trojan_osx_dnschanger.shtml
SecureMac has introduced a free Trojan Detection Tool for Mac OS X.  It's available here:
    http://macscan.securemac.com/
First update the MacScan malware definitions before scanning. You can also contact their support team for any additional support - [email protected] [/b]
The DNSChanger Removal Tool detects and removes spyware targeting Mac OS X and allows users to check to see if the trojan has been installed on their computer; if it has, the software helps to identify and remove the offending file. After a system reboot, the users' DNS records will be repaired.
(Note that a 30 day trial version of MacScan can be downloaded free of charge from:
    http://macscan.securemac.com/buy/
and this can perform a complete scan of your entire hard disk. After 30 days free trial the cost is $29.99. The full version permits you to scan selected files and folders only, as well as the entire hard disk. It will detect (and delete if you ask it to) all 'tracker cookies' that switch you to web sites you did not want to go to.)

  • Is there a Blackberry Desktop Software for MAC OS 10.4.11? Or something equivalent? Help Please!

    Hello All,
Is there a Blackberry Desktop Software for MAC OS 10.4.11?  Or something equivalent?
I recently switched from a palm treo to blackberry but didn't anticipate syncing issues with my mac until now.  The current BB desktop software seems only compatible with MAC OS 10.5, so I'm in a difficult position.
Please any suggestions are deeply welcomed!!

  • What is best antivirus software for Mac Mini? Recently the Trovi virus was on my computer and I want to make sure it is completely gone.

What is the best antivirus software for Mac Mini?  I had thought Mac's were safer from viruses but recently I think the Trovi virus infected my computer, I have taken steps to remove but want to make sure computer is clean.

To learn how to defend yourself from the threat of adware read How to install adware.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up",  "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver movies or other copyrighted content "for free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Virus software for mac

Which is the recommended virus and malware scan software for Macs

This is another many-months-old topic. It's generally not helpful to pull old posts like this out of the archives and reply to them, as you've been doing today. The issue is already settled, one way or another.
As for BitDefender, it hasn't tested very well, and I wouldn't recommend it. See:

  • What happened to scanning software for the HP 3050A?

After scaning succesfully for 2 years from my HP 3050A to my Macbook Pro I got a "Scanning software for this printer is currently unavailable" message on my laptop today when I tryed to scan from my laptop.  And when I press the "Scan" button on the printer it say "Computer not found" (even though it can find my computer quite nicely for print jobs).  What happened?  How can I get my scanning software back?
    This question was solved.

Hi Yakatack and welcome to the HP forums!
I'm sorry to hear about your scanning woes with the Deskjet 3050a but I'd be happy to help once I've gathered a bit more information
    1. Which version of Mac is on your computer?
    1. a) Did you recently upgrade to said operating system?
    2. Is the printer connected via USB or wireless?
    3. Have there been any software changes/updates that you're aware of recently?
    4. Are you able to scan through System Preferences, Image Capture or Preview at all?
If you have not recently upgraded your operating system or changed anything else on the computer, and the printer is wireless to the Mac, please power cycle your network. This entails turning off the printer and the Mac, pull the power cord on the router for 30 seconds and then when it's back up, turn everything else back on and try to scan once it all settles.
Hope to hear back from you soon

  • Using Desktop Software for Mac with an 8703e - Can it be done?

I downloaded the new BB desktop software for Mac but it doesn't seem to work with my 8703e device.  And since I had to erase the PocketMac software to install the new BB software, I now have no way to synch my Mac and BB.  Can anyone shed any light on this?

You might check out the FileBrowser app on iTunes. I haven't used it, but it sounds like what you're after. When you say you can't use the Sierra iG2 with your iPad, I'm assuming you mean you can't plug it into the iPad. If it's plugged into a laptop and offering a WiFi hotspot, the iPad should be good with that. I use the Apple Camera Connection Kit to carry extra movies on an SD card. It uploads only to the Photos app, so no books, etc.

Have you been able to try using a different USB port or to retry connecting after reinserting the BlackBerry battery? If so, try reinstalling the Desktop Software and retrying the connection.

I recently posted a request for some help with Destop software for Macs in regard to trying to sync iCal with the Blackberry calendar on a Blackberry Torch 9800, and realised only after the post had been moved to another forum by the Moderator that I had posted in the wrong forum ie the Torch forum rather than the Desktop software forum.
