The Onscreen  Volume display is stuck on my screen and keeps decreasing my volume to zero is there any solution to fix this
all help appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for your answer It did eventually go away.  It comes back from time to time but I chose to use external speakers instead until I can find a solution that wont distroy the product.

Are you by any chance using iTunes 7.0.2 and firmware version 1.2?
If you are then I would surmise that you are the victim of a bug in the firmware (if you look at the forum there are thousands of people with the same issue)
Unfortunately for us users Apple appear to be burying their head in the sand on this one because there has been no official recognition of the problem, meanwhile people are continuing to download the firmware, oblivious to the fact that this will render their precious and much loved iPods completely useless.
This is clearly a completely cynical policy by Apple because they know that publicly admitting the problem would seriously harm their sales in the busy Christmas period.......POOR SHOW APPLE!!! THIS WILL HARM YOU MUCH MORE IN THE LONG TERM.
Fear not though, they will not be able to hide it for long because I know that the BBC are investigating this.

  • Progess meter/volume display gone from "Now playing" screen. (30gb video)

I don't know how I did it, but about a week ago, I must have hit an unfortunate conbination of buttons on my Ipod 30g Video. Now instead of my progess meter/volume display all I see is five little circles in a horizontal line. I can't seem to fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Fancy New Onscreen Volume Display for Openbox, et al

I created a script for handling my volume control which uses the notify-osd package from AUR.  This is the newfangled notifications from Ubuntu.  It's nothing fancy so the notify-osd-bzr package will probably work fine as well.
This is for alsa but with some minor mods it should work with oss.
You can download the script here: http://mozicodo.s3.amazonaws.com/vol.sh
The format for the command is: vol.sh {up|down|mute} [-i increment] [-m mixer]
Increment is either a percent or number just like you would pass to amixer.  Defaults to 5%
Mixer is the name of the control to change.  Defaults to Master
For example to increase the volume of PCM by 10% you would do:
    vol.sh up -i 10% -m PCM
Let me know of any suggestions for improvements.
    Edit: fixed the urls

I have tested the script out, but yet I seem to be having issues with notify-osd displaying the stuff.
    What I get is this:
It seems as if notify-osd isn't drawing anything but the bubble.  Has anyone had this issue with the script?  (Notify-osd works fine for all the other things I use it for, save for the fact that it doesn't seem to show icons for anything but Dropbox...maybe I'm missing the icon package for it?)
Below are the notify-osd related packages I have installed:

  • Can I connect iPad1 to an external monitor (HDTV) to display whatever is on iPad screen on TV?

I want to demo new apps to my bosses in a group rather than one-on-one. I have a cable to connect my iPad to the TV's monitor cable and have checked all the TV inputs but nothing displays on TV. Is there an app that will display whatever is on my iPad screen or is there something in settings I need to change? I tried Projector with no success.

No, not with the original iPad. Only a few selected apps (where this feature was deliberately added) can do this on the iPad1, and no app can display other apps or "whatever is on" the iPad screen.

Yesterday I ran the latest Yosemite update. The MacBook restarted afterwards, but the login screen won't respond to trackpad or keyboard. The MacBook is fully charged, BTW. I've shut down by holding the power key until it powers off, let it rest, and powered up again. I get the chime and the login screen, but I can't select anything either with trackpad or keyboard.

Sorry folks, this is me again.
NEVER MIND. I closed the lid, opened it, and all is well. I don't know what was going on, but it seems to have resolved itself.

  • CS6 Firewire 16:9 preview is letterboxed on widescreen monitor

With CS6, is there a setting to fix the Firewire Preview since the 16:9 video is incorrectly letterboxed on a widescreen video monitor? It is basically letterboxing something that doesn't need to be letterboxed. This is for a 1080 24p AVCHD project with 1080 24p video files.
Adobe Encore & After Effects CS6 properly dsiplay the Firewire Preview on a widescreen monitor.
In Encore, there is acctually a setting in the Preview Menu that lets you change the TV Mode from 16:9 to 4:3 Letterbox. That only affects the preview when choosing to the Preview the DVD. When playing the video from the Timeline or clicking on a DVD Menu that setting doesn't change how the Firewire Preview displays and is always 16:9. Premiere is always 16:9 letterboxed.
Any suggestions on how to get Premiere to display 18:9 using Firewire Preview without letterboxing it?
    Randy

I checked it using various Firewire devices but they all act the same in this situation. Pioneer DVD recorder, Sony DV camcorders.
The unique thing with Premiere CS6 compared to CS5.5 or earlier versions is that it allows Firewire previews with the Mercury GPU on, it doesn't force you to turn that feature off and use the Mercury Software setting instead which is lower performance if you have the proper video card.
I just checked it using Premiere CS5.5 and it does the same thing. In 1080 HD Sequences, Firewire out has the 16:9 incorrectly letterboxed, or what I call "double" letterboxed.
With both CS5.5 and CS6, the Firewire preview is correctly displayed in a DV 480i 16:9 Widescreen Sequence.
A little annoying but this is where an old Sony PVM 4:3 broacast video monitor works well in combination with a widescree 16:9 video monitor still. Simply turn off the 16:9 mode and it will dsiplay it correctly when editing an HD Sequence. When using a DV widescreen Sequence you would then click on the Sony PVM's 16:9 mode so it would letterbox correctly.
Surprised Adobe didn't fix this in Premiere CS6

  • Widescreen monitor benefits???

I currently have a 2-3 year old flat panel LCD 17" monitor but with price drops was thinking of going with a widescreen monitor, are there benefits, or will my Windows XP and internet look funny on the widescreen since I have an older computer?  I heard the internet is still in "full-frame" mode, is this true, would I just do better keeping my 17" regular size?
    THANKS!
    Solved!

Widescreen monitors offer several advantages for those who use their computers as entertainment machines. For those who want a truer picture of the way a movie was intended to be displayed, without the minimizing and annoying letterboxes, a widescreen monitor is essential. Further, many computer games are also shot in a widescreen format. While it may be possible to play these games on a monitor with a more traditional ratio, it is not the intention of the producer.

  • Gateway 24" HD LCD Widescreen Monitor

    Hello,
Can I plug a Gateway 24" HD LCD Widescreen Monitor into my iMac G5 with iSight and get maximum benefit from the resolution of 1920*1200 ?
    Thanks,
    John.

You should also be aware that the display will be a mirror of internal display and will not provide any additional space.
Apple has disabled dual-displays and only the hack can open that up.

  • Resolution for Widescreen Monitor question

We have a project that requires a flash presentation that
will run on a widescreen monitor (1366 x 768) at a tradeshow booth.
Any advice on what resolution to use for our images? We had
thought 150dpi would give us smooth color gradations. True?
If we use that, should we made our document size larger or
scale down the graphics when importing them to the stage?
    Any help/advice is appreciated.
    -K

First of all, dpi is meaningless for screen graphics (ie, the
web). What you are really looking at is pixels, so pixel dimensions
    is all that really matters.
In the end, if the the monitor is 1366x768 then your best bet
is to just make the Flash that size. Flash can run slowly when
played at larger resolutions, regardless of whether the original
size was large or the movie is being scaled up. If you can, get the
latest Flash Player 9 update beta from labs.adobe.com, it is
significantly better in performance, especially at large scale
    sizes.
I've made a number of Flash demos to be played on monitors at
tradeshows and such, and I would suggest your best bet would be to
make yout images the actual size they will be displayed, and scale
as little as possible in Flash (excusing any scaling animation, of
course). The way I do this is make mockups of all my main keyframe
sequences in Photoshop (or Fireworks, which is what I use, which
has frames and pages so motion storyboards are actually really easy
to do, but you could also just make a sequence of PSDs) at the
final size, 1366x768, and then when you are ready export you know
the images are the size they should be.
One last thing to mention, if you intend to animate your
images in Flash in any way, make sure you set their properties in
the Libray so that "allow smoothing" is on -- it will make the
    animations of bitmaps much smoother.

  • New LG204TW 20" widescreen monitor shows black lines ??

Yesterday I picked up the new LG L204TW widescreen monitor for my Intel Mac Mini.
The display is detected by OSX and I can run the native resolution of 1680x1050 @ 60Hz. via DVI.
But there is a sort of flickering of the screen. Actually there are black horizontal lines showing up. This happens mostly when browsing.
When I open for example a Quitime window and move the window of the playing video over the black lines, the lines are gone. So I think it is not the display itself.
Changing the resolution does not help. Any idea how this can be solved?

Hook up another monitor that you have and see if it is your mac, if it isn't your mac then take the LG screen back to the shop, ask for full refund and consider another monitor.

I have purchsed a L197 widescreen monitor which has a 16:10 aspect ration and Im running it at its optimal resolution of 1440x900 but Im getting think black lines on the sides like it is running at 4:3.

Anyone got any ideas why this may be?

Bring up the on-screen display and you should find a menu option to preserve (or not) the aspect ratio of the incoming signal.
Not sure if this may help but give it a try.
