HP W2371d and Nvidia GForce 8500 GT not filling screen

Nvidia GForce 8500 GT came with my circa 2005 desktop. My original monitor finally died and I just bought an HP W2371d. I don't know if the issue is with the video card and/or the monitor itself so I'm posting both places. I've checked for newest drivers for both. They see each other and the monitor is automatically selecting the native resolution which is 1920x1080. I'm running Windows 7.
My issue is that I cannot get the image to fill the monitor screen completely. AND it cuts off the right edge slightly. So where Windows 7 offers a space that when clicked takes you to the desktop, I can't see that and I lose the last part of the time and year too.
When I go to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/ it says my screen resolution is 1536 X 864 which is weird. That's not what Nvidia says. It says 1920x1080 is selected.
I've tried using both the Nvidia settings and the monitor hardware settings to no avail. When I got to IMage Control the Custom Scaling is grayed out so all I can do is nudge the entire image to fill the blank black space on the right. But it doesn't make the image fit within. I've tried many of the other resolutions and they all distort and do not fix the issue.
Where is there a disconnect? Oh....I'm using a VGA cable with a DVI adapter on it as it's all I had. Will buying a DVI cable fix this? Or do I need a different video card (would rather not go that route if possible). What am I missing here?
Thanks.

Just want to report back...I went digging and uncovered a DVI cable in my drawer of cables. That fixed the problem. YEAH! Although it's odd to me that when I go to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/ it STILL says my screen resolution is 1536 X 864.

  • UIWebView Content not filling screen in landscape

    Hello everybody.
I'm working on a simple iPhone app that will host a specific web page in a UIWebView. I found that once I open the app, zoom out (to get the bouncy effect that puts the content back to fill the screen), and then rotate the phone my UIWebView's content doesn't fill the screen. I have tried to scroll and noticed that the UIWebView does fill the screen, but the webpage is only taking up part of the UIWebView. The webpage is a smaller version and positioned to the upper left hand corner of the screen. If I double click to zoom, the web page then fills the screen as expected
    Here's a screenshot of what I'm seeing
    http://img25.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20110216at321.png/
I have scalePagesToFit set and I have tried using javascript to zoom (which only zooms the text, not the actual content element in the UIWebView). I have been searching for days and finding nothing that will fix this issue. Can anybody here help me out in some way?
    Thanks for reading!

And therein lies the rub. I remember those controls. But they don't appear in my 3.1 update. I can see my choice of screen mode being reset by a software update, but I can't put it back like I had it.
I'll try resetting and see if it brings the screen zoom control back.
Thanks anyway for at least confirming they should still be there.

  • 16:9 Not filling screen

Without thinking I switched my camera over from HD to SD but left it set on 16:9. Now I am editing footage that does not fill the screen. It appears as a letter box in the middle of the screen with huge swaths of black all around. Is there anyway I can at least get the image to fill the screen horizontally?

My guess is that you shot the footage 16:9 Anamorphic SD but edited in 4:3 SD, which meant you unwittingly created a 4:3 edit with black letterbox bars added at top and bottom. The pillarboxing of that footage that you're also seeing when viewing your DVD version may simply be due to playback settings on the DVD player or display setting on your TV. (Is it a widescreen TV?) Alternatively you may have actually recorded the footage in camera as letterboxed 16:9, then edited that in an 16:9 Anamorphic timeline ... result would be the same ie a postage stamp surrounded by black. The point being you need to provide more accurate details before any of us (including yourself) are going to know what you did and how you might fix it.
Do you still have the footage and project on your Mac? If so, then load one of the source clips into the Viewer window ... Does it have black letterbox bars at top and bottom? Is it full frame 4:3 but everything seems tall and thin? With the clip in the Viewer and with the Viewer window active, press cmd-9 (item properties) and list for us what format details are displayed for this clip. Now what about the edit? With sequence in the timeline and the timeline window active, press Cmd 0 (sequence settings) and list for us all the settings details for the sequence. With the Canvas window active, press Shift Z (fit to window) and tell us whether the display shows black letterbox bars, black pillarbox bars, neither or both.

  • Color Calibrator can't work properly due to display not filling screen.

I have a Thinkpad W520 with the HD 1920x1080 display and the color sensor. I tried to run the Color Calibrator application but it always runs to completion but cannot process the measurements. So I opened the lid in the middle of a calibration and discovered that the color screen that is supposed to be viewed by the sensor is not full screen, thereby preventing the sensor from measuring the color. How can I set the graphics so that this app will display full screen when it runs? Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes I am. But I just solved the problem. I had adjusted my display to show text, icons, etc at 150% of normal resolution. Somehow it was causing the application to display only a partial screen. I set the magnification to 125% and now the color calibrator works fine.

  • Why are 16x9 photos from PSE8 not filling screen when exported to PRE8?

I batch cropped a bunch of photos to (JPEG) 16x9 and created a slideshow in PSE8 (about 100 slides, 3.2 sec duration, random pan/zoom, random 1 sec transition). I had to click on each photo "properties" and choose "fit on slide" since it was defaulting to "crop to fit" (which was further cropping my 16x9 photos down to something not desirable).
When I "Output to PSE8" it shows up in the sceneline as not filling the entire space. If I click on this slide show in PRE8 and use the "properties" then "motion" and increase the size of the pictures, they come out blurry. However, if I insert one of the 16x9 photos directly into PRE8, it fills the entire screen and is perfect focused.
PLEASE tell me there is an easier solution than having to create the entire slideshow in PRE8. I really like the random transitions, easy batch duration pan/zoom, control.

Thanks for such a quick response Steve. I will attempt to add more information to help clarify your addtional quesitons
The pan and zoom I am using is the default (very minor- just enough to give the perception of movement).
If I import directly into PRE8 the picture(s) look perfect. It just seems to occur after I port to PRE8
I am not sure what workflow I am following but will be a bit more specific as to the steps I have been taking:
    1. I open the PSE8 workspace and choose "organize" (not edit)
    2. I click on "create" then click on "slideshow"
    3. Next I set my specific defaults (for this project) 3.2 sec interval, 1 second Random transitions, apply pan and zoom to all slides and leave the "crop to fit slide-landscape" checked ( thanks for the tip to uncheck this next time, so I dont have to do it to every slide!!)
    4. I then import my media from "add media" "photos and videos from folders" place the photos in the order i am looking for then save the project.
5.I next click "output" and "edit with Premiere Elements" - which open PRE8
    6. in PRE8 setup I choose the "HDV 1080i 30" configuration.
The slideshow has now ported over to PRE8. The slideshow bundle does not utilize all of the space in the sceneline, hence my problem (black bars top and bottom of screen). Ironically, when I import via get media (directly from PRE8) the same pictures from my computer file (not in the organizer), they fill the entire space in the sceneline (no black bars on top or bottom).  I have this problem regardless of whether or not I am using the pan/zoom or the unchecking of crop to fit slide landscape in PSE8.
I can send a screen print if you think that might help??
I sure hope this helps, all the other video items that are not related to this slideshow are perfect and this is killing me!!
    Thanks, again, Mike

..after about 20 min of this frustrating crap it starts to happen less and less..please help!

Didn't see they where timestamps . Yes it seems that glx is one cause of the delay. I've tried some different xorg.conf, and it's always ligglx.so or  NV-GLX that slows it down. Any suggestions on how I can speed this up?
ps. The computer is ok. Although the garddrive is a SATA 3.0Gb/s, 5400 RPM.  But I don't think this is the problem?

  • Powerpoint to Keynote - presentation not filling screen

    Hey folks,
i have just moved over to iWork and I am copying across some of my powerpoints. While opening them is not problem, I can't get them to fit the screen. They just fill up a small section in the middle. does any one have any ideas how I can make them full screen?

  • 1920x1080 TV as monitor not filling screen/black padding.

I have an LE40C535 Samsung HDTV. I'm connected to it via VGA cable. When I choose 1920x1080 @ 60 hertz, the screen is compressed from the left and right with 2 black vertical rectangles.
Setting to lower resolutions fills the screen but it looks poorer than my 1400x900 LCD on the MacBook Pro powering my experience.
Additionally, all resolutions seem to make text blurry. I've tried this:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2
but it did not seem to help.
Anyone know what I can do?

black screen, can see nothing , but f8 and f2 when turning on comp. Once it gets past HP logo, it goes balck with white words saying not supported. Not sure what he changed.

  • HP 23xi Monitor: Windows not filling screen at 1920x1080

Just bought a HP 23xi for my Acer M1610 Win 7 pc connected by vga port. At the 'HD' resultion of 1920x1080 as is 'recommended' when altering the screen resolution, the screen contents are ofset to the right by about 3 inches. I can adjust the horizontal position but not far enough, and the vertical distance is still too great for the screen.
At a reduced resolution of 1280x720 the windows fill the screen perfectly - but I have obviously lost the benefit of the 'HD' resolution.
My graphics card is an SiS Mirage 3
Any help please to get full resolution, with full screen ?
Thought it may be due to scaling??

  • Display Not Filling Screen After Windows 10 Upgrade

After performing Windows 10 upgrade the display on the monitor has a one inch vacant area around the entire display. The resolution is set correctly to 1920 x 1080. There is no way of extending it through the display settings in the PC. The upgrade was made from Windows 7. I have checked via HP and there is no Windows 10 driver available for this monitor even though Microsoft qualified all software and hardware compatible for the upgrade. The adapter is version 8.970.100.9001, dated 1/13/15. I don't know if the graphics card, ATI Radeon HD 4350 connected via HDMI, has any affect on this problem. I would appreciate any help.

I have the same problem with this monitor on using my HP Pavilion dv6 with an ATI Mobility 4200 series chip. The problem is caused by the driver inserting overscan into the picture. I can't find a way to tell Windows 10 to remove the overscan, and the Catalyst Control Center is not compatible with Win10 either. I wonder if this monitor is reporting itself as a "TV" and that's the issue: if so, a driver update could fix it.

I am using an HDMI connection. i feel like it might be a driver problem or something but I've tried everything I can think of with no luck...... any help you could give me would be great, thanks.

...then go into the AMD Vision Engine Control Centre along the left hand side, look for "My Digital Flat-Panels" click this and in the new options find "Scaling Options (Digital Flat-Panel)", move the slider right till it says 0% and this should fix the issue. Good luck!

  • Project Not Filling Screen?

When burned to disc, my 720 X 480 DV project fails to fill the screen. This happens whether I burn directly from FCPX, or export as a full quality .mov and import into iMovie HD (widescreen) and then share with iDVD. (I have FCPX to set project properties based on first clip, and always start with a 16:9 shot from my Canon GL2). Any hints much appreciated.

Maybe I should add - I also have wider shots from my iPhone 5 in the project - but that shouldn't matter if I am set to have project properties determined based on first clip right?

  • IOS 7 Picture not filling screen in Camera Roll

I recently updated to the iOS 7 on my iPhone 5. I went to check out the camera roll to view my photos, and I noticed when I have a photo up, there's two black horizontal bars, one at the top and one at the bottom of my photo. Previously on iOS6, the picture would fill up the whole screen instead of having this small picture like I do now.
Anyone know the best way to go about fixing this?

I'd like to know this too.
"Select All" and "Select Multiple" were invented in the 1980s.
It's hard to believe that, in the 21st century, we're tapping individual items one at a time, or connecting to additional devices in order to delete multiple items.
    It's a massive usability kludge.

  • HiDef Movies Not Filling Screen

I am watching a 1998 movie in a widescreen format on my 1080 HDTV. This particular movie,  showing on Showtime HD. (**bleep**,  it just started showing correctly 35 minutes into the film.) Until this sudden change,  proportions were correct but I was seeing a black margin on all 4 sides.
Any thoughts on what's going on. Some other premium channels were fine but Showtime channels presented this issue.

My guess is that you shot the footage 16:9 Anamorphic SD but edited in 4:3 SD, which meant you unwittingly created a 4:3 edit with black letterbox bars added at top and bottom.
