HP Wireless Elite Keyboard FQ480AA

I have an HP Wireless Elite Keyboard that was working fine on  my old Dell system that crashed.
I have tried to hook it up to my new Dell Windows 7 64 bit system and can't get it to fire up. The batt looks OK and the software disc appears to be loaded OK.
Does anyone have a suggestions on what could be wrong?
Thanks bear

Hello barrybear, You might try going to the Control Panel, Devices and Printers, and in the upper menu bar, select add device.
Then see if the device can be found. If so, Windows 7 may install the drivers for it.
Even though the keyboard worked on an earlier system, it may not be compatible with the newer Dell system.
Bluetooth specifications have changed over the years.

  • HP Wireless Elite keyboards (2) not communicating at all.

My HP wireless elite keyboard (no mouse) worked with my old laptop and another computer, plug and play, even if I didn't install any software.   However, it won't connect with my new ones.    Both the laptop and the other desktop it worked on have since crashed.  Today I tried 2 HP Wireless Elite keyboards on a different laptop and 2 new desktop computers with no success.
Plugging in the USB hub, the computer says it loads the driver fine, but no output from the keyboards at all. I've tried:
Pressing and holding the connect button on the keyboards multiple times.
I loaded the software and the icon sees that the batteries are full.
I changed the batteries, anyway, to no avail.
Checked the control panel. The keyboard is shown in devices and printers and the status shows it's working fine.
I tried to the update the driver through Device Properties but it says the latest one is already installed.
I went to the HP site and downloaded new software, anyway, but no luck.
I've tried the above on 3 different computers. Two have Windows 7 64 bit and one has Windows XP 64 bit.  Same results.  I also have another HP Wireless Elite keyboard bought a few years ago but never opened until today.   It’s showing the exact same symptoms.
I notice that the blue light on the USB hub only stays on for a few seconds when plugged in (both of them). It doesn't turn on when the connect button is pressed nor when any key is pressed.    I thought this light used to flash all the time, or at least when I was typing, though it was plugged into the back of the computer so I could be wrong about exactly when it came on.  I just remember the blinking used to be distracting at night.
I hate to have to buy new keyboards when I have two of my favorites right here. They weren’t cheap, either.
    This question was solved.

I was finally able to get the keyboards to work.  Turns out it was the TYPE of battery used.  Duracell copper top, brand new Energizer Ultimate Lithium ($$), and Energizer Industrial did NOT work.  I used the batteries that came with the new keyboard and it works.  They just say Energizer on them, no special titles or adjectives afterward.
    That is incredibly picky.

  • Question re HP Wireless Elite Keyboard Features

I don't see any "Back" key as found on most keyboards. Why?
What does the "half-moon" marked key on the upper left side of the keyboard do?
    Thanks anyone.

  • Can a link 5 usb key paired with hp's wireless elite keyboard?

Hi, I have a link 5 wireless mouse and a old hp's wireless elite keyboard.  I don't know if they both use bluetooth or one is bluetootha and the other 2.4GHz or not.  But can a link 5 usb key paired with a hp's version 1 wireless keyboard?  If not, how can I get a wireless usb key for my hp wireless eilte keyboard?

    Hello,
A Link 5 USB mouse can be used with some devices and HP has listed them at the following link:

There are no drivers orsoftware to install. Users simply press the ”Connect” button on aLink-5 device to pair it with their PC. The wireless receiver then“remembers” all paired devices, making Link-5 accessories ideal forthose using a PC in multiple settings such as the home, office orother mobile locations.

It is only mention v2 not v1, so not sure if it will work. You should not be able to buy a key, because each device is sold with their specific usb receiver, so the answer is, you cannot get one, except if you buy  a new part.

  • Where can I find a HP Wireless Elite keyboard V2 manual?

Where can I find a manual for my HP Wireless Elite V2 Keyboard? I have acidentally thrown it away with the box. And I regret that. I looked on the product page to look for it and it said that I had to download Adobe Reader. So I did and it still said that?! I just need the manual, I don't want to buy another one just to get the manual.

  • Link-5 wireless elite v2 keyboard with really bad reception

Hi. I bought a Wireless Elite v2 keyboard a week ago, and it has really bad reception. It should have a maximum range of about 10mts, but I can't use it more than 10cm away from the link-5 dongle.
I have tried everything listed on this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00006821&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...
But nothing works. New batteries, no wireless devices near, no things between the receptor and the keyboard, I even tried using it on different houses just to be sure there wasn't anything making interference at home.
    Is the keyboard defective?
I bought it at Boston, but now I'm on Argentina, I can't just go and get/try a new one...

    Hello,
Well, sorry to hear that all the tests failed to show any improvement on the situation.
I would suggest that you try to call HP and to explain the situation, see if they can try to help you to check the issue and maybe exchange the keyboard.

  • HP Link-5 not pairing a Wireless Elite V2 keyboard and a Wireless 3-button Optical Mouse

I recently purchased a Wireless Classic Desktop Keyboard and Mouse.  However, I didn't like the keyboard and then purchased a Wireless Elite v2 keyboard which is much better.  However, when I plugged in the HP Link-5 receiver, the keyboard worked fine but the mouse isn't getting paired up.  I followed the instructions about placing the mouse near the receiver and pressing the Connect button but still the mouse doesn't respond.  I need to plug in the receiver that came with the original keyboard and mouse  in order for the mouse to work.  However, this uses up another USB port and defeats the purpose of the HP Link-5.  Any suggestions?

I have asked a number of times for information on these devices, but HP has not answered me.  Can be very frustrating and I hope if enough people pressure them they will at least answer.  We can decide if the answer is any good or not then.  There is absolutely no documentation that I can find, especially with the Link-5 Bluetooth technology.  For instance, the mouse has specific specs about how fast the resonse is to certain movments.  I have asked but nobody seems to know, find out or care.  Which it is, I wonder.
If they are NOT Link-5 compatable (whatever that means exactly) it apparently won't sync.  It would be nice if they would tell us....  This also may help in the next decision to purchase HP equipment, if this is the kind of simple support they refuse or simply won't give out.

  • Missing USB driver / dongle for HP Wireless Elite Desktop v2

    Hello there,
I recently lost my usb driver / dongle for my keyboard and mouse (HP Wireless Elite Desktop V2). I am unable to use both keyboard and mouse.
What is the solution for this problem. Can you send me a replacement usb dongle / driver. I sincerely appreciate your help.
    Thanks and regards,
    Samy Pal

    Samy,
The Elite Desktop v2 uses Link 5 technology but my understanding is there is no individual Dongles available.
You would have to buy a whole new Mouse, etc, etc. to get a new Dongle.
You can always contact HP Support directly for your area/country and ask them yourself.

  • Apple wireless BT keyboard with TEXT MESSAGING?

I know that I can sync the Apple wireless bluetooth keyboard with the my iPhone 4, but I just want to verify that it will work with text messaging, in addition to the usual email, etc. apps. Frankly, that's the main reason I need it. I messed up my elbow from texting so much. I don't want to, but I MUST text a lot, so I figured I'd get the keyboard to save elbow injuries. Sounds silly -- lugging around a wireless keyboard in order to text... but it actually wouldn't be so bad. I do a lot of texting from my house, anyway.
One more thing -- The wireless keyboard can only be paired with one device at a time, right?

The Bluetooth keyboard will work with the messaging application.
I know I always turn the Bluetooth off on the iPhone so when I pull out my keyboard it is a bit of a pain in the ***. Granted I only use it with long emails on the road that would take an hour to write with the keyboard on the iPhone, so it's not too bad. The iPad dock keyboard will also work with the iPhone and iOS4.x so if you need a keyboard and don't want to deal with the Bluetooth than that is an option too, just a thought.
As far as the Bluetooth keyboard goes it can only be paired with one device at a time.

  • Wireless mouse/keyboard intermittent dis-connects

In the last three days, I have looked at over 20 different posts regarding wireless mouse/keyboard disconnect problems. Thew fixes ranged all over the board and NONE fixed it. And, none of these problems matched mine exactly, except for one other. I too, have two iMacs and this problem has over the last few days gotten increasingly worse and irritating. Regardless of what you're doing, whether it is actual productive work, or playing a stupid game on your computer, when your mouse quits responding, and the graphic flashed on the screen "MOUSE DISCONNECTED", it irritates.
I think a senior apple tech finally pin-pointed the problem, at least for my two systems. It has nothing at all to do with Bluetooth or Wireless networking. I tried ALL of those fixes including resetting the SMC. None fixed it.
Here is what the tech had me do. Under System Preferences > Users & Groups > My Login, I then clicked on "Login items. I was astounded to see a list that exceeded the size of the window of "startup" programs that have been installed from iTunes Helper, to Dropbox to blah, blah, blah. You name it. He had me remove ALL of them except iTunes Helper. one item "Connect service (all users) could not be removed. However, as we later discussed, the specific item the I believe to be the culprit was "Bittorrent". I've forgotten what I downloaded that used that as the download agent, but in the future, I shall NEVER AGAIN use it for ANY reason. I also removed from the applications area, some non-used programs (that probably weren't the problem, but...), emptied the trash, re-booted and have not had the problem since. I want to stress here, that if your problem is actually Bluetooth or Wireless network related, this will not fix it. However, my mouse had gotten really molassesy in that when I would try to quickly move from one spot to another on the screen, it took some time to catch up, as if something else had control. That's what I think Bittorrent or someone trying to share one of my files was causing. I don't share my files. Period. I didn't realize that it could be subverted to that use of I wouldn't have ever used it in the first place.
Anyway, neither one of my iMacs has exhibited ANY of the former symptoms since clearing that list on each system. Turns out, my second iMac also had Bittorrent in the list. That's about the only thing the two have in common besides Yosemite 10.10.3. Maybe this will help, maybe it won't. I sure hope it does. Forums like this one are extremely helpful to me.

I had the same problem... didn't find anything useful in the forums.  Just on a whim, I went to the
Control Panel | Device Manager | Universal Serial Bus Controllers
For each "Hub", right click and select "properties"
On each properties page, select "Power Management" tab
On each power management tab "uncheck" the "Allow the computer to turn off..."
I did this for the Generic USB Hubs, the USB Root Hubs, and the Reneasas...Hub.   After that was completed, all USB ports started working immediately.  So far, they are staying working but it has only been an hour or so.   Will report back if this doesn't stick.    Also, there may be a more elegant solution... but this works for now.
