HP Z545 no sound on optical output. Win XP MCE.

Hi.
I have HP Z545 with Windows XP Media Center Edition with all latest updates including HP drivers.
I'm trying to use optical output as a default sound output, but for some reason it's greyed out in mixer (see screenshot http://img849.imageshack.us/i/img0192g.jpg/).
At the same time the realtek sound panel shows "Output digital only" (see screenshot http://img857.imageshack.us/i/img0191v.jpg/), but for some reason it doesn't work
Any ideas how to make this thing work as I want it to?
Best regards,
Val

Matt,
The Digital out from the soundcard is of electrical type and not optical type so you can't use optical cable with the Digital output jack directly. If your HT system support digital coaxial input, you can get a 3.5mm to coaxial cable for the connection instead.

  • No sound from optical output when using hdmi/dvi cable

I am trying to connect my apple tv2 to my B&O Beovision 7. I have used an HDMI to DVI cable which is working fine for the picture; but obviously DVI does not carry sound. I have therefore connected an optical cable to the digital optical output on the apple TV and put this through a converter to digital coax, which then goes in to the TV. I know the optical cable / converter set up works fine as I have tested it on my sky box and it works fine. But I get no sound from the apple TV - any ideas?

I hav exactly the same problem... Did you resolve this??

  • TS4107 I have to use the optical output to my receiver for my surround sound ( it does not decode HDMI). After updating the software on my Apple TV the optical no longer works. The HDMI to my TV works and provides sound to the measly TV speakers. WHY?

I updated my software as "recommended" and my optical output is not working anymore to my receiver and thus no surround sound. My HDMI to the TV still provides the picture and sound to the TV. My receiver only uses optical and was fine BEFORE the software was updated. How can I go back to the prior software or fix this? My Apple TV is the earlier 720P version. I have tried restarting on the Apple TV and then unplugging and reinserting all plugs to no avail. It provides no optical sound on Netflix, Youtube and other selections but does via HDMI only to the tinny TV speakers. ANY IDEAS?

GO to your Dolby Digital settings, and toggle the options.. Auto, On, Off. That worked for me, and a few other people.

  • ATV3: no hdmi output but sound from optical is working

    Hello,
I've ATV3 and connected to HD ready Samsung LCD. I'm getting 720p video since the LCD is HD ready and have no issue. Plus my ATV3 is connected to optical home theater DVD system.
I started getting a frequent issue with HDMI signal where there is no output but sound is still working from the optical output. The issue happens even on the main ATV3 menu not only when I play video!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Check that the HDMI cable is correctly seated at both ends.
Try disconnecting the cable and connecting it again.
    Try another HDMI cable.
Try the Apple TV with another TV

  • My MacBook Pro has no audio.  Sounds preferences showing output is Optical digital-out port.  How do I change this to built-in speakers?

My MacBook Pro has no audio.  Sounds preferences showing output is Optical digital-out port.  How do I change this to built-in speakers?

I experienced this same problem yesterday on my MacBook Pro,  still searching for a solution, several other posts here indicate people have been experiencing this since at lease 2007.  I have  yet to find a clear solution.
It appears that occasionally inserting headphone causes this, it turns on the Optical digital-out port feature (red light glows inside the headphone port) and takes away the internal speakers option.   Restarting did not restore it, but for some reason after sitting asleep overnight the sound started working again and the internal speaker option return in the Sound - Output Window, and the Optical Digital-out option went away.
Here is another post with some ideas on this

  • Mac mini and optical output problems

I have just purchased a new Apple Mac Mini connected it to my Tv via HDMI and now am having problems getting the sound working.
I have connected via optical output and the cable itself works and I can see red lights at either end.
When plugged into the Mac the 'optical output' is greyed out(it does change when plugged in)
When the volume control comes up it has a circle with a cross through it.I have tried what i consider most 'normal' things to try. Currently doing a update of the Mac software. Please Help, PLEASE!

So you have connected via a Mini-Jack -> Toslink cable from the Mac Mini to your receiver? You haven't specified what cables you are trying to use. My guess from the red circle with a X through your digital output is it may not like the cable you are trying to use.
I have the above described setup but I am able to select Digital Output in Sound Preferences. The volume control is greyed out for some reason but does not have a circle with the cross through it so I just control the volume via the receiver itself. iTunes still allows me control of volume, as do other video/audio controls in the web browser etc, it's just the main OS X volume control that is inaccessible.
    Strange, but liveable.

  • No optical output apple tv (2)

My Apple TV (2) --OS 5.0.2-- does not have sound output vía optical Toslink connection... I´ve tried all options in audio/video menu...
Of course HDMI works fine in image and sound, but I need optical output to connect to DAC in a just music system..
What is the problem with this hardware?

Same problem here. I have unpluged and restarted, but no sound from optical.

  • Multichannel optical output unavailable (gray)

    Multichannel optical output unavailable (gray)
    Hello
I can not have an output multichannel audio in 5.1 (or 7.1) for the parameter digital output built-in "configure speakers" I stay in stereo.
    Multichannel is gray
I am using the Apple DVD player DTS and DD 5.1 but
Why with the numérique optical output is not able to access the settings multichannel sound 2.0 digital audio output domme the parmetres Apple's program "audio midi"
    xavier

It appears that my underlying question is whether Apple will either add digital pass through to Quicktime or to the system. My main need for 5.1 surround with Quicktime is for Divx files. Once you install the Divx software, Quicktime can play Divx files (such as rips of my DVDs), which can be recorded with 5.1 surround using AC-3.
On a related note, I see that this free AC-3 codec for Quicktime was just released. <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27300> Both this and the Divx codec are now available as Universal Binaries.
Am I right in thinking that I could use the AC-3 codec to play 5.1 surround if I used external firewire hardware, but I can't do it with the built-in S/PDIF port? If so, that seems like something Apple needs to fix.

  • No sound from speakers/headphones win 8.1

I have no sound after upgrading to Win 8.1 on Pavilion P6-2304a desktop, I have downloaded the HP driver update sp63935.exe, should this update the driver for both the Audio Inputs and Outputs device and the Sound Video and Games Controller device?
Mine has not updated the Audio Inputs and Outputs device, the driver version is still showing as 6.3.9600.16384, should the upgrade change this to 6.10.6482.0?

  • 10.7.2 and still no optical output???

    Hi everyone,
I'm running Lion 10.7.2 (Build 11C74) and I still have the same problem with my optical output. Everytime I connect the cable I got in System Preferences/Sound:
    Name: Headphones
    Type: Headphone port
    No red light, no sound!
I think I've tried almost all the solutions from the forums, but nothing is working.
Does anyone has any ideea how to get my optical output back? And without downgrade.
    Tnx,
    Andrei

The DHCP settings have come back, but how to manage NAT at the latest Server version 2.1.1?
    The Apple document reads,
"Important: Do not enable Internet Sharing if you have configured custom settings for the DHCP service in OS X Server. Any existing DHCP settings will be overwritten if you enable Internet Sharing in the Sharing pane of System Preferences."
If so, the new DHCP settings will be useless if you use Internet Sharing (NAT).
How to use NAT and DHCP server at the same time on a Mac OS X Server 10.8?

  • Optical Output surround problem with SB X'FI Xtreme Audio Notebook (Gray one)

    Dear All and Creative Gurus,
I search through the forum and read all sticky thread and didn't find an answer, so I need to post here:
I just bought this ExpressCard sound card for my laptop, and nearly all work fine. I know pretty well Creative tools and settings for years as I already have an XtremeGamer PCI card for my desktop PC.
I meet an Optical Output issue with this new Notebook card:
When I use any software to play DTS or Dolby Digital signal from video or music (E.g. a DVD with PowerDVD or VLC), the Optical Output only send "basic" st?r?o, and my amplifier can't detect any surround. Surround is OK when I use the little dock with the 7. analog output.
As a comparison, with the other computer, and the X'FI XtremeGamer sound card, and using same settings, same sources and same software (VLC or PowerDVD set to spdif output) the Optical Output send surround sound, and my amplifier detect Dolby or DTS source.
So I hope it's just a drivers (updated I think) or settings problem, and I hope this optical output is not made only for st?r?o sound!
Let me know your feelings here Guys, thanks! And keep the good work
    Best regards,
    Loran_69
Edit few minuts after : All work fine if I use the "Creative MediaSource 5 Player" !
The optical Output send surround and my amplifier well detect the Dolby or DTS source!
So what's going on with other software like VLC or PowerDVD, with the same settings than my desktop computer (spdif enabled)?

Seeing as the desktop version of the Xtreme Audio doesn't support Game Mode or even have the X-Fi chip on it (card is basically nothing more than a renamed SB Li've 24 bit/Audigy SE), I don't see how the notebook version can be any different. That and from looking at the specs for it I don't see anywhere that it even mentions anything about Game Mode, never mind EAX.

  • No Optical output sig

I bought the X-Fi Fatality FPS sound card when I purchased my new computer. I use the optical output connection on my Front I/O panel to connect to my sound system. The sound system I use is the Logitech Z600 speaker system. When I turn my computer on for the first time, whether it be when i wake up or get home from work, I don't have sound. In my Z600 display I get a "No Digital Data" message. I contacted the computer company I purchased the computer from and they sent me a replacement Front I/O panel.
I replaced the panel and am still having the same problem I posted above. My Aux 2 and Mic 2 connections work fine. When I turn my computer on and get the " No Digital Data" message I unplugged my Optical Cable from the Optical Output connection and there is no "red light".
The catch is after my computer has been on for about 20 minutes I can restart it and the "red light" comes on and my Optical Output connection works fine.
What is going on thats causing this?

...normal HDMI signals include both audio & video but not on a Mac.
    This is partly true.
MacBook Pros with Model Identifiers +lower than 6,1+ (see System Profiler for yours) do not output audio through their mini-Displayports, so no mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter will convey an audio signal to a monitor, AV receiver or TV.
MBPs +6,1 and higher+ do output audio through their mini-Displayports or Thunderbolt ports, and if used with a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter that supports audio, they will deliver audio and video via HDMI. With these models, don't buy any HDMI adapter unless it explicitly says it supports audio. If it doesn't say anything about that, it very probably does not support audio.

  • Problematic optical output on X-Fi Titanium

    Hello,
i have X-Fi Titanium with latest drivers and the optical is bugging me. There is no rule but after like 5min (sometimes after hour) or so of listening to music over optical output on external receiver sound becomes? bad. There are 2 types of problem : sound gets some metal tone and the other problem is that sound slows down like on the half of speed. Very wierd problem since it works OK for some time. Only restart helps to resolve this issues but it's frustrating that i have to do that every some time to fix the problem...
Anyone had similar issues and how did you solve it's

Thats exactly what I just set up, I have an optical cable running to my Sony STR-DE598 receiver and it sounds beautiful.

  • Audigy2 ZS platinium pro Optic output to receiver 5.1 - 6.1 -

Hello there, i`m having the same problems that everybody else... i try to connect the Audigy2 ZS platinium pro to my receiver using the digital optic output, the results, only the front L and R speakers work in the test, can someone explain me how to resolve this isue?
    This is my current setup:
    OS: Windows XP
Sound card: Audigy2 ZS platinium pro
    Recei'ver: Philips FR 965
    Speakers: Bose acousticmass 6
    thanks

I am having this same kind of issue
I am currently trying to output using my optical out on my Audigy2 ZS to my Pioneer 85 reciever. I have selected to use the SPDIF passthrough and tried SPDIF bypass on my settings and my reciever is not seeing the coding coming to it (It has a indicator on it when it is recieveing the signal) I have checked both of my guides on my reciever and sound card and I cannot get it to work for me at all.
If I take the cable and plug it into my DVD player it works just fine. If I try my DVD rom dri've which is using the SPDIF on my player or any of my games, it only outputs to my L/R speakers.Message Edited by Ericn84 on 06--2005 06:5 AM

  • SB live! external. logitech-z680.Spdif output and Optical output , but get only 2

    Hi there,
I buy now a SB li've external.i use? Spdif output and Optical output .But i get only 2. voice
i dont get 5+ voice with Spdif output and Optical output .
    I wait your help.

But to use the receiver's DAC's you'd have to lose the accuracy advantage of real digital (i.e. the "better" sound). When you convert non-AC3/DTS sound to AC3/DTS, the conversion involves "perceptual coding," which means they throw away stuff they don't think you can really hear so that the signal can be fit in the same space as a stereo digital signal.
    It's also a relati'vely compute-intensi've conversion, and not a simple process.
Now, are you sure really want to do that?
