HP Z620 does not boot when external Seagate hard drive is connected

I'm troubleshooting an HP Z620 workstation with 32GB RAM, one 500GB HDD + one 1TB HDD running Win 7 Enterprise 64 bits, this user has 2 external USB 3.0 HDDs,  one Buffalo 2TB  + one Seagate Desktop Backup Plus 4TB; the problem comes when the external Seagate HDD is connected and the PC is turned one, for some reason the PC does not boots, it shows a message that states "Non-disk or no boot disk error" and sometimes it tries to boot, but then goes thru the "Windows repair option" or "Start Windows normally" routine, none of these results on starting the PC.
The only way this PC starts and works properly is when PC is started with the external Seagate HDD disconnected and then connected once the Win 7 is up and running; the problem described above does not happens with the external Buffalo 2TB HDD and the Seagate HDD have been tested throughly and no errors or problems have been detected on it.
I'll really appreciate your attention to this, as well as your prompt response.

Gaspar Campos

HP doe's not boot if any external hard disk drive is connected. All dimensions and all brands, USB 2.0 or USB 3.0
PC don't boot even if I command from BIOS to boot via internal hard drive.
It try, I see Windows is loading, but then i see the PC is searcing a boot system, a MAC address and then it is lost and alone until I disconnect the external hard-drive ...

The fact is that I have four Acer (2 desktop, 1 nettop, 1 Netbook) and 1Notebook HP (2006/2007) that not have this issue.
When I connected the first time this morning the external hd, my mouse Logitech M570, trackball - wireless, went crazy. I searched and found a solution on Logitech Website.

But is too long on Verbatim, Toshiba, WD, Samsung, Freecom, Lacie, sites.
But "Never say never again", I tried and the site WD is unavailable.
On the other hand is a common issue on HPs, I  can see on this site.

  • OS X Lion does not boot when my Time Machine disk is connected

Everytime I boot or reboot my MacBook Pro I am stuck at the grey screen and OS X Lion will not boot. When I disconnect my Time Machine disk (external disk connected via usb) I suddenly get the loading screen and OS X Lion boots properly.
Pretty anoying I think, does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Have a look at the boot log messages, using Console.app (also with the "dmesg" command), and see if there's a clue there, or, set the boot process logging to "verbose" (i.e., using TinkerTool System) and find out what's really going on live at boot time.  (Also, do you have BootCamp setup, or any ofther bootable partitions?)
    Hope this helps.

  • Bridge does not see my external usb hard drive

I have searched on this topic and the advice I've seen so far relates to when Bridge is set up to auto launch. That is not the case with me. I have Vista 32bit and CS3.
I want to move files to it and make sure the keywords are ok.
The drive is empty right now, but it should still list the drive when I click on my computer where it sees my DVD drive, right?
Thanks for the help. I started a new topic to reflect the current issue.

Disregard, I guess it takes a while? It is finally there.

  • My External Seagate Hard drive just changed to read only

my External Seagate Hard drive just changed to read only on its own?
I went to get info and scrolled down to the  Sharing and Permissions
But there is nothing there but a greyed out : You can only read
There are No boxes to check or uncheck, No options to change to read and write, No name of owner or ignore ownership box. NOTHING ELSE IS THERE
    HELP!
I have recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and am having other problems as well

Click on the external HDD icon COMMAND+I.  You should see a display such as this:
You should be logged on as the administrator.  Click on the lock icon.  It should open and allow you to make the required changes.
    Ciao.

  • KT6V + sempron 2800 does not boot when BIOS saved

    Hi,
I have just bought a new sempron 2800 to be use on a KT6V LSR. I plugget in my KT6V but was not recognised well (but all was working ok with windows). To be recognised, I have flashed with the last bios of MSI my motherboard... and now I have the following problem:
    - I clear CMOS, then boot. It comes ok (processor detected and set a 1200Mhz)
    - Then CMOS has a bad checksum: I enter setup, then load default, save.
    - I reboot: the computer does not boot up.
If I re-clear CMOS I can re-enter setup and modify frequencies or other options. But when I save my modifications, then the computer does not reboot anymore (I have to re-clear cmos again)...
I tried to apply the configuation I found in this thread:
    http://forums.amd.com/lofiversion/index.php/t69536.html
It says that SDRAM must be at 333, FSB at 166 and multiplicator at 12. When applying this settings, it does not boot (the leds indicate that the chipset initialisation (the first step) does not pass).
If I just load biios default, the leds indicates that it fails when checking the memory (second step of boot). I suspect that it's a problem of memory (but my memory was working well before !): it's 2x512 of DDR 400.
Any suggestion is appreciated :D . I spent several hours trying to configure the bios but it does not boot..
(I'll also try to find help on AMD forums...)
(Some extra info: my PSU is 26A for 12V, so it seems that it's not due to the PSU (as I read in the FAQ of this forum).
    Thanks,
    Ptitmain.

  • System does not boot when PCIe express Card is inserted in system. Using Spartan-6 PCIe Integrated Endpoint Block 1.3

    Hi,
I am using Spartan-6 PCIe Endpoint Block core v1.3 and I am using ISE 12.1. I have used the PIO example design,
modified it according to our design.
The core is configured as below:
    BAR0 - 8KB, 32-bit, Memory Type
    Lanes - x1
Clock - 125 MHz (system clock)
The card is a custom board. When the card is pluged into the system the system does not boots, it hangs.
I have tried debugging using chipscope and monitored trn_lnk_up_n, trn_reset_n and trn_clk. trn_lnk_up_n stays
high (deasserted), trn_reset_n stays low (asserted), trn_clk is low (No clk).
    What might be the issue?
    Thanks & Regards.

    Thanks Gabor, for the response.
    I refered couple of answer records like AR# 34873 and AR# 34894, I monitored trn_reset_n, sys_reset_n, clock_locked, PLLLKDET and RESETDONE signals as suggested in AR# 34894.
    Status as follows:
    SYS_RESET_N = 1 (deasserted)
    TRN_RESET_N = 0 (asserted)
    CLOCK_LOCKED = 0 (deasserted)
    PLLLKDET = 0 (deasserted)
    RESETDONE = 0 (deasserted)
which means the transceiver PLL frequency is not within the predetermined tolerance. Is this problem related to the PCIe Jitter Attenuator I am using on the board to derive 125MHz from 100MHz system Clock.
    Thanks & Regards

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Does not boot When Back up drive removed

I have a windows Server 2008 R2 Standard server RAID 10 installed.  I  have a non raid drive installed as the backup HD.  The Backup drive is now failing. When I went to switch it with a new one the system does not boot and is asking for
a boot drive.  I have been searching for solutions and cannot find any.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
Could you confirm if your boot volume is on that non-RAID disk (maybe 2 volumes on that disk and one of them is the boot volume)?
At current situation, first please test to connect the failed disk back to the device and see if it will help.
Or you may need to run a boot-up repair with an installation disk.
If you have any feedback on our support, please send to [email protected]

  • Computer does not boot when pxi 1033 is connected

hiiiiii...........i am using NI pxi-1033 for my application & this pxi is connected to my system through PCIe-8361. i am using it from last 10 months, now suddenly my computer does not boot up. i start pxi first then start the computer but computer screen shows no signal. there is no blue screen error.
can you give me any point to troubleshoot the problem.

This probably doesn't help, since your setup used to work, but I have had to run the MXI Compatibility Tool on more than one PC.
    http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/3119/lang/en
One PC would only boot one time in ten, before running the tool.

  • Mid 2009 macbook pro 13" not booting from Western digital hard drive

So i've gone ahead and purchased a Western digital 2.5 inch scorpio black 750gb 7200rpm sata 16mb internal hard drive to replace my critical status 160gb standard drive in my macbook.
I have followed a guide using a usb 2.0 enclosure, with my new hard drive then carbon cloner which does allow me to clone a copy of the existing hard drive, but... when i boot up the macbook holding the option key i get the external hard drive which i can select but then i go into a os x utilities screen and does not boot straight to finder.
I get four options and one of them is disc utilities, so assuming this process in't as straightforward as i'm led to believe?
I have partitioned the new hard drive with guid for intel macs so pleae can anyone help me before i just give up and take it to my local apple store?
    Thanks matt.

I have just solved this problem, with a fresh head this morning i realised that the external drive was empty and the cloning process didn't complete for some reason?
Anyhow i ran the clone again and booted externally which worked so then replaced my old hard drive with the new scorpio black and wow what a difference! I had beachballing before as my old drive was critical but now with the with the new speed 7200rpm drive its flying, very happy:-)

  • HT201250 Macbook air and 1TB external seagate hard drive

i just bought a 1tb seagate hard drive and set up time machine to my macbook air. so just to check i went back and opened iphoto from one of my backups and the iphoto library wouldnt open. does anyone know why and how do i access the pictures from my iphoto library on my exteranl hard drive.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks, I can't connect to my external Seagate hard drive. How to I fix this??????

I have two Seagate hard drives that were working fine for a couple years until I upgraded to Mavericks. They connect via USB and never show up in Finder.

I tried to connect a Samsung hard drive. Before Mavericks it was working fine. Now it won't appear in Finder and it can't be mounted in Disk Utility. As with previous issues I reported concerning iOS 7 and Mavericks, I wrote in this forum, but Apple never reacts. People are trying to help each other with workarounds, which is great, but the core issue isn't solved by Apple. It seems after Steve Jobs they're not concerned about quality that much anymore. The fact that I can't use a very common Samsung external hard drive on Mavericks is just way beyond deplorable. And what did I get in return? iBooks?

  • Boot from external raid hard drive in new iMac 2012

Just owned iMac 2012 21.5", but seemed internal drive is pretty slower than my previous iMac 2008.  Planning to buy external raid hard drive like Lacie 2big Raid or G-Tech 4tb G-Raid (Thunderbolt) to be my main boot drive instead of internal one.  Would this would solve the problem?

If your new Late 2012  21.5" iMac was Not ordered with the Fusion Drive option, then it came with a much slower standard 5400 rpm hard drive.  Your 2008 iMac had a 7200 rpm hard drive.  That's why this one is slower.

  • C30: Booting from external USB hard drive

I carry my OS on an external portable USB drive, and then make use of whatever hardware is available where I visit.
I recently attempted to boot a Lenovo C30 Thinkstation with this external drive, and was unable to do so.  In looking at the BIOS settings, there is no option to boot from USB (other than floppy(?!?) or memory stick).
Is it possible to boot from an external USB hard drive, and if not, why?
    jerry

The boot sequence section of our setup menus has been troublesome to say the least (at least through the development phase).  There are various reasons why it is the way it is now....from spec requirements to customer requirements.  So long story short it really needs to be this way, even though situations like the one you encoutered is inconvenient.
The USB issue is actually done for security reasons.  For example, many large customers don't want users to have the ability to just walk up and plug in a USB device and allow the system to detect that and attempt to boot to it right away as it is a risk to their image/security.  For this reason, USB devices don't automatically get added to the boot order, and must be added throught he setup menu if needed.

  • Satellite L20-100 can be booted from external USB hard drive?

I recently bought Toshiba Satellite L20-100 and I wonder if:
    1. is there any possibility to boot this machine from external usb hard drive?
    2. it is possible to attach another internal hard drive?
Supposing that the both answers above are 'no', how can I solve the following problem: I need hdd space, I need to boot 3 separate Wxp Operating Systems onto the same machine (Toshiba Satellite L20-100).

Booting from external USB HD - "No" would be the official, mcrsoft sponsored, answer. However, it is possible. Not easy but it can be done. I've seen it done with my own eyes and there are guides how to do this. Just look for it with search engine. But if you have enough disk space you better do what was suggested here - create 3 partitions and use boot manager.
