HP2800 driver included on new Int.iMac - duplicated/missing driver options?

Hi,
I have an Intel iMac, my printer HP2800dtn has an Intel driver included with the OS. In the printer driver though every option is duplicated using Rosetta apps e.g. Quark, PS etc. In Universal apps the options are crossed through so they cant be used.
The HP site just says that the needed drivers are included with the OS that ships with the new Macs, but they dont seem to work very well.
Anyone have any ideas?

I seemed to have solved the problem of
duplicate/missing options. Turns out there were
duplicate plugins in the printers folder in my
library, some where PPC and others UB. So I deleted
all the PPC ones.
It's good to hear you sorted that out. It sounds like maybe there was an installation issue where the old plugins were not removed.
I cant seem to print PDF's via Preview, only works
through Adobe Reader and I cant seem to print web
pages via Safari. Just prints grey boxes where the
pictures and text are meant to be. I did have this
problem before I deleted the above plugins btw.
This is most likely another issue, one that has appeared on the boards concerning HP drivers and the inability to print from Preview and Safari. I believe this was solved by switching to a GIMP driver and not using the HP driver. There should be some threads on this still available on the board.
Hope this helps.

by looking at the specs the laptop is better but if your not a gamer or graphics designer  then you most likly wont notice a difference in the performance at all so with that said a few downsides
the processor is i5 the i7 processor is the better processor the graphics card has half the dedicated memory that the laptop has and the hdd compared to the solid state is not much of a difference unless you wanna move your computer all the time you wont need a solid state drive
but like i said before if your not a gamer or graphics designer on your computer you will not notice the difference most likely

  • How to drive a 30" Cinema Display from a new 27" iMac?

How do I drive a 30" Cinema Display from a new 27" iMac that has no obvious video out port? There are lots of ports, but nothing resembling or identified as a video out port. Is the very small hole in the cabinet by the power in port the thing I'm looking for? If so, the power/video adapter for the Cinema will not work as is. Do I need a Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter? I am completely uncertain about this, and could use solid advice. The AppleCare tech I spoke with today seemed not to have a clue. He said he would get back with me on this. He didn't.

    Overview
Every Mac with a Mini DisplayPort allows you to connect an external display or projector using an adapter. You can use an external display as your main workspace or to extend your desktop, or you can work in mirrored mode with a projector so you can view what your audience sees.
Use the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to connect your Mac to a 30-inch display that includes a DVI connector, such as the 30-inch Apple Cinema Display HD, and enjoy the ultimate widescreen canvas with a resolution of 2560 by 1600 pixels.
Compatible only with Mac computers with Mini DisplayPort and Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later.

  • Can't boot from snow leopard bootable hard drive on my new 27 imac

    Hey guys
I have just bought a new 27in Imac with all possible upgrades.
I have an old 2.2 MBP running snow leopard. I used carbon copy clone to make a bootable clone.
It will boot from the hard drive on my MBP ( the one I cloned it from) but it will not boot on my Imac.
I can select it from the boot screen ( holding down alt) but after I select it I just get the apple logo and nothing happens.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I have looked through tones of forums but can't seem to fine the answer.
Will the new mountain lion not boot snow leopard? If it can boot windows I don't see why it wouldn't boot my clone.
    Thanks in advance peeps

I don't think it is fixable. Your new Mac has come installed with Mountain Lion. My understanding, from what I've learned on these boards, is that a Mac cannot boot from an OS earlier than the one that was installed at point of manufacture. I believe it is to do with the firmware that is on later models.
It also means that you cannot install an OS earlier than the one the machine came with (apparently this can be worked around by installing an earlier OS in a Virtual Machine, like some people install Windows on their Macs. This is not something I've done, but a regualr poster on here MichaelLAX, I think, has described how it's possible).
If you're wanting to just erase and start afresh with the MBP surely you can do that with the clone? You don't need the iMac to do that.

  • OPTIARC brand optical drive in new 24" iMac

I just noticed with my new 24" iMac (it's a replacement, first one had a faulty screen) - the optical drive is an "OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5630A" - the first iMac had a Masushita one.
I'm not sure if there's anything I can test it with - but it seems slow and it wouldn't recognise a couple of DVD titles when I initially put them in - I had to reboot, then they appeared.
Some quick searching found that OPTIARC is a Sony/NEC initiative; but that's all I could find about the drive.
Anyone had experience with these drives or had any problems?

    Hi,
I had the problem in an old IMAC G3 just yesterday. After much experimentation I found the answer that is not written in any literature from Apple that I could find. Next to the reset key on the Apple G3 is another button that has no specific literature on and I pressed this key while starting the computer. I came to the firmware that gave me a choice between shutdown and start IMac. I said to myself, "I wonder if there is a command that would reject the DVD. I typed Eject, and it didn't recognize the command, I typed Eject DVD, and it didn't recognize the command, and then I typed, EJECT CD, and the stupid restore disk that didn't would with the system and there was nothing else I could do, came out and I immediately chucked in the garbage.
I did a new install and it works fine!

  • New 27" iMac ejecting external hard drive and not detecting it consistently

I purchased my iMac from Best Buy two days ago and am wondering if I have a lemon. During the process of transferring files via an external hard drive I have noticed a number of issues. My old 2007 iMac had no problem reading the drive but my new iMac keeps ejecting the disk every couple of minutes. I will get a message in the corner of my computer stating that it was not ejected properly.
At one point, the new iMac would not read the drive at all. I plugged in my iPhone and it detected it at first but eventually ejected it and would not detect it again either, not even to charge it. I restarted the computer and it started detecting the iPhone and the external the drive, but now I am back to getting the same error message. I have tried to repair the disk using disk utility and it does not detect any problems. I also tried using every single usb port.
I would appreciate any suggestions and will be taking it back if it keeps having issues.

  • Multiple problems with new retina iMac. Suspect graphics driver

New retina IMac, top spec, with latest Yosemite, and additional Cinema Display attached. Having multiple problems which I suspect are being caused by the graphics driver:
The long running issue with Adobe PS whereby under certain size options the tools cursor disappears and just has the arrow cursor.
With no warning, after doing an action such as opening an application the system reverts immediately to the login screen and does not show me as logged in.
After switching users, a blank screen other than the cursor is shown. Seems I have to power off to get past this one.
Can anybody shed any light on any of these, at least so that I can discount my theory of a single culprit?

So I went onto the Adobe forums and found a number of threads on this subject. A staff member replied with the following:
It's a video card driver bug introduced in MacOS 10.10 (which looks a lot like an old bug they fixed in 10.9).
Apple is aware of this, and the other video driver issues in 10.10, and working on solutions.
So thanks to Adobe we now know.

  • Will the new 2012 iMac support 2 hard drives (HDD and SSD) like the 2011 iMac?

Will the new 2012 iMac support 2 hard drives (HDD and SSD) like the 2011 iMac?

Well, I'm not sure how anything can fit into a 5 mm depth, so I can see why they've removed the CD drive -  there probably wouldn't be enough room for the laser, LOL. Can't imagine speakers, hard drive (of any flavor), logic board and so on and so forth. Fortunately, my iMac has Applecare through early 2015 so I'm set for a while; I may check out a Mini at that point - saw that it is configurable with a fusion drive, which would make it interesting for me.

  • LaCie drives won't mount in daisy-chain setup on new 21" iMac

    Hi,
My 2 LaCie externals (Quadra v3 and Quadra v2.1) are not being recognised as a daisy-chain setup with my new 21" iMac.
I have the Quadra v3 connected to the iMac with USB 3.0 cable. It mounts only every 1 in 10 attempts. When successfully mounted, I daisy chain the Quadra v2.1 into the v3 via a FW800 cable and it is not mounting at all.
    - Both drives are being powered independently using original power supplies.
    - This exact same setup works flawlessly on my Macbook Pro.
    - I have updated all firmware using LacieFirmwareUpdater.
    - I have tried different cables and using firewire ports.
    - I can get the Quadra v2.1 to mount independently using a USB 2.0 cable directly into the iMac. However I wish to daisy chain with Firewire to the v3 and this is not working.
If anyone has had this issue and knows a solution I'd love to hear it!
    Regards,
    rowbo

You cannot daisy-chain disk drives across different connection types/protocols.  In other words, you cannot daisy-chain drives using both USB and FW in the same daisy-chain.  This is explained in the Lacie d2 user manuals.
It is, actually, quite surprising that you have been able to do this with your MBP.  It should not work at all.  You are lucky in this particular case, but I would urge caution assuming that this connection will continue to work, or even work reliably.  imho you are lucky you haven't fried your drives doing this, or fried the USB port in your MBP.
Anyway, no multi-connection drive is built to support cross-connection daisy chaining.  You can do USB-USB or FW-FW, but not USB-FW.

  • Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

Does the new 2011 iMac come with a osx lion preinstalled or a osx lion USB drive

I just bought the 17" MacBookPro the other day with Lion preinstalled and wanted to install Lion on my iMac. It makes sense that I should be able to upgrade for free you spend all this money on Apple products, give us apple supporters a break. Maybe this is something that Apple overlooked and in the future there will be a fix.
I read up on forums and I finally called AppleCare they said that I should be able to install Lion on 5 other computers but only if purchased in the store, this doesn't make any sense. I feel like I already purchased a copy and that copy should be able to be installed on another computer. It should be as simple as logging in app store with the same apple ID and it be there to install on my iMac. If apple is trying to make everything user friendly, device syncying and convenient well it's not; this is just something they think of. I refuse to pay $30 for another copy. Fix this issue APPPLE!!!
Because if those who bought computers in July that didn't have Lion preinstalled can obtain a free copy to install in 5 computers. I should be able to do the same with the Lion that I bought preinstalled it's just make sense to me.

  • Black/Blank Screen with Boot Camp Win 7 Install on new 27" iMac

I'm having a problem getting Windows 7 on a new 27" iMac and am familiar with the Boot Camp Windows installation process. Here's what I've done...
    1. Run Boot Camp from OSX, partition the drive.
    2. Insert Win 7 cd, proceed with installation.
    3. Computer restarts and the 'preparing for initial setup' message displays with the Win 7 splash screen. When it switches to where it should be displaying the Win 7 desktop, the screen is black.
I can hear the Mac still running, but there's no display. It's like it's waiting for some type of user input for the intial Windows setup (haven't yet entered the key).
I've done a hard shutdown and restarted Windows with the exact same result. After reboot, I get the 'Windows was not shut down properly' message with the 3 safe mode options, where choosing either gets me the 'Windows cannot complete setup in safe mode'. And any key reboots it.
The Mac side still runs fine and holding the option key at start up gives the Mac/Win boot options.
I'm inclined to think that it's a video driver issue since the 27" is brand new. Maybe Apple used a new video card for the larger screen and haven't updated the Boot Camp drivers. I checked on ATI's site for an updated driver for the Radeon HD 4670 they say is in the new 27" model that's currently available. (not the quad core)
Is there any workaround for this? I was thinking of installing Vista instead, and upgrading to Win7 once installed, but if it's a driver thing, it would just be a long way to the same result and could have the same problem with Vista as well.
    Any ideas?

I think I figured out what is happening here with the video drivers on the new iMac's and Win7. I believe it's re-directing the video to the mini display-port output when you see the screen go blank. I installed my Win7 x64 with no issues but I had an external monitor hooked up at the time and while it was installing the O/S my iMac went black but everything moved over to my external screen. Once it finished installing then everything went back to normal after a reboot.
Not sure if that helps anyone but pretty sure that's what is going on. So if you have another monitor handy, get the mini display-port adaptor from Apple and connect your external screen before you install Win7. Cheers!
P.S. If you have one of the new iMac's and want to install the latest Radeon drivers (after you have installed Win7 on your iMac), try the following. Download and install the drivers from ATI/AMD directly. They'll try to install and fail (no worries) but now the driver/install files will be unzipped into an ATI folder on your main Windows hard drive.
Now go to this site: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and download the tool and use the Vista instructions listed on the main page of the URL above. You shouldn't need to download the MSXML 6.0 and I don't think you need to disable the UAC stuff like they suggest for Vista (I didn't) and it works fine. UAC is not nearly as intrusive on Win7 as it is in Vista so I think that's why it worked for me and pretty sure the MSXML 6.0 is already in Win7. Once the program has modified the mobile Radeon drivers then you can run "setup" from your ATI directory and the new drivers will finally install correctly including the Catalyst Control Center. Voila! I now have 9.10 drivers up and running on my new 27" iMac and working perfectly so far.

  • Why is aperture crashing on my brand new 27" iMac ?

    I just purchased a new 27" imac:

      Model Identifier:          iMac14,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7

I purchased this to replace my 2008 MBP whish was too slow for editing large files.  I saved up to buy this new machine and am at wit's end already.
I installed Aperture (original disc and upgrade disc, then did upgrade to latest version via ap store.
I imported files from one SD card (less than 900 files) into Aperture. They are on my drive, not an external. I have not even set up time
I have opened iphoto and opened photostream for that, but not for Aperture.
I have not installed any plugins for Aperture--though I own Photomatix and am waiting to install it until this is resolved.
I did not transfer anything from my previous machine, nor use migration assistant as I wanted this to be very clean. I've only set up two email addresses in mail--seriously I'm keeping this machine clean.
SO...My first Aperture session resulted in a spontaneous re-boot.  Since then, Aperture has crashed (and I've sent a report) each of the 4 or 5 times I've tried to use it. I'm doing basic things like cropping, viewing with and without the loupe, rotating through view between thumbnails, full screen and

  • Anyone using a NEW intell iMac with Logic?

I've got many great responses on both sides to my question regarding my quest to determine which machine to use with Logic -- new Mac Pro (the ultimate) or new iMac (likely cover my bases for a long while and save major cash now). One point raised against iMac was fan noise smack dab in the middle of the listening field with the older iMacs. So a sub question to my original is this:
Are there any NEW intell iMac users out there who are using Logic? Is fan noise a problem? Generally, how do you like the iMac's feasibility as a music workstation with Logic? How many tracks/effects are you running and how is it working for you?

Before those concerns are completely alleviated, go over to the iMac hardware forum and do a search for firewire issues. Like actual physical problems with the jacks on the 20" iMac and having drives just completely "disappear".
the reason you will find issues including firewire ones on the imac forum is because it is a forum for people with issues. it may or may not be the case that there is a subsantial issue with FW on the intel imacs, but obviously people who are having issues are going to pop up there making it seem like everyone is having an issue.
for certain types of music production, an imac would be completely unsuitable. but for others it will be ideal.
there drawback of having 800 and 400 FW bus shared is that if you have a 400 device it will slow down 800 devices to 400. that means it would be ideal for impiro to have either both FW drive and interface as 800's or not go to any further expense of getting an 800 hard drive to use for audio since he would not beneift from the speed.
not a great big deal IMO.
iMac DOES lack expandibility, but it doesn't lack horses. actually i would say (and have said) that impiro would do better with an older tower to allow for expandability because he doesn't need that many horses to do what he needs to do. and i certainly feel that it is unnecessary to spend money on a computer that would be better spent on other things relating to the move to computer based music mixing.
never-the-less, the kind of live musician-audio-based music impiro is going to be making is childs play for modern computers. he will be able to run loads of tracks and plug-ins before a new imac will even break a sweat. even with an interface and a FW drive on 1 bus running at 400. he just won't be able to run loads and loads.
and man....even if he decides to get more heavily into it and start buying third party cards and this that and the next thing he can look at the next computer being a tower. personally, i am changing my computer every 3 years or less - it'll take him at least that long to find the ceiling on a new imac.

  • Just bought a new 27" iMac and want to sell my 2007 iMac.

I want to sell my old 2007 iMac after having just purchased a new 27" iMac. I have tranfered all of my data to the new machine but how do I now remove all of my personal details from the old Mac without losing to upgraded operating system? In the old days you would just re-install the system disc.

Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps mentioned in this support article, take these steps:
Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted
If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
Erase the data partition(s) with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall  the original OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by booting into Internet Recovery (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from discs or a read-only USB key, deliver those to the new owner.
The new owner will have to repurchase the software, if need be, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer them either.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • Facetime HD Camera not working on new 27inch iMac

    Hello everyone,
I got a new 27" iMac and can't get the built-in Facetime HD camera working...when I open Photo Booth I just get a gray spinning wheel where my image would usually be.. I tried using it with iMovie, FaceTime, and Facebook and it wont work with any of them...
I went to System Information and the camera is being recognized under USB (FaceTime HD Camera Built In)
Tried restarting it, unplugging everything, creating a new user account...
Not sure what else to do since I have not installed anything yet
Any help would be appreciated...thank you!

Because you already use 10.8.2, unless something is wrong, the requirements for the 10.8.2 update can obviously be met on your startup drive.
Check your startup disk's free space.  Unless your disk has too little free space for the 10.8.2 Combo, your software (or perhaps your disk hardware) may need repair.
If your disk is getting full, increase disk space.
Otherwise, restart Mac from Mountain Lion Recovery and use Mountain Lion Recovery's Disk Utility to repair your boot drive.
Restart normally and try installing the Combo Update again.
[email protected] wrote: ... My old Logitech USB camera wont install either on the Mini.
If you mean that you are trying to install some kind of camera software, don't.  No software other than OS X is needed for any Mac-compatible cam.  Moreover, adding third-party camera drivers or other camera software apps can cause software conflicts.
If you mean that you have already installed some third-party camera software, follow its developer's instructions for uninstalling, and uninstall it immediately.  Then restart normally and try your camera again.
If you mean something else, please explain in different words.
