HP7640 making humming sound while sleeping

My HP 7640 is working fine. but while asleep it makes a high pitched, low volume, whinny humming sound.  If I touch the NFC icon or do anything to wake it, the sound stops.

Had the same issue, went to store, changed the printer for same model... same issue.
the "consumer" options only let you prevent the printer from going to sleep for up to 15 minutes, you can't prevent it forever in that menu.
Called HP support, asked for escalation to level 3 support to request a way to avoid it going into stand-by mode. Yes, there is one but you have to get into the engineering menu of the printer to be able to do that. Here is the step by step that Level 3 support walked me trough, they worked for me. YMMV, so do it at your own risk:
1) get to the enginnering menu on the printer
Read this first before pushing any buttons: on the top left corner, NEXT TO THE SCREEN, there is a home button, some times it is lit up sometimes it is not, on te bottom left corner, NEXT TO THE SCREEN, there is a back arrow button, sometimes it is lit up, and sometimes it is not (THESE BUTTONS ARE RIGHT NEXT TO THE SCREEN, NOT ON THE SCREEN)
Now push as follows (even if the buttons are not lit up): BOTTOM LEFT BUTTON ONCE, then, TOP LEFT BUTTON 3 TIMES.
The screen should now show the Engineering menu.
2)how to get to the menu where you change the system mode timeout settings:
Look for a menu option called "Underware".
(Stop giggling and send a telepathic mental high-five to the HP engineer who named that menu)
Go into "underware".
several new arrows appear. Click the UP arrow until you see "System Menu"
Hit OK
Click the up arrow until you see "System Mode Time Out"
Hit OK
3)BE CAREFUL NEXT - dont go past zero - AND BE PATIENT.
you now see a large number, like 800 or something, push the down arrow once. you are now at 799, Repeat again and again until you reach zero.
(Stop being angry and as you keep pushing 798 times do send a telepathic mental -duh- to the HP engineer who built this UI menu.... on a touch screen... without adding a number pad)
DO NOT GO PAST ZERO!  (I dont know what happens if you do)
Once you see ZERO, HIT OK
You now see "System mode timeout" but not the zero
4)Exit back
Push the red X
Push Home.
Your printer will never go to sleep. Enjoy your super quiet home-office, without a high-pitch whine from the printer, while HP troubleshoots what's going on with the standby power modes in this series and offers a fix.  You did register your printer purchase right? otherwise how will you find out?
D-user.

My iphone will start making strange low tone beep sound while using viber. Only when I close the app (holding it long at multi-task and clicking the X) will it stop. And then when I open it again it will start making weird beeps again. Please help.

        Hey there kben,
I'm sorry to hear that your iPhone is having the same issues. This is not a known issue on the device so lets try and take a look to see what is causing it. Did you have this issue before the 7.0.2 updated? Please try a soft reset,http://vz.to/16Qv4Id and let us know if the issues persist.
If the soft reset does not work, I would recommend performing a hard reset on the device,http://vz.to/17aDIPT.

  • 3rd gen ipod makeing humming sound

my ipods hard drive started humming louder than normal and now itunes doesnt recongnize it. what can I do to fix it?
    3rd generation 15gb   Windows XP

You might want to try and restore your iPod from a previous backup first to see if that alleviates the problem.  If it still continues, restore it to factory defaults to rule out all possibilities of a software issue/conflict.
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue in which case you'll want to make an appointment at your local Apple Store/Genius Bar to have them take a look at it.

  • Right fan is making a low humming sound constantly while turned on

My computer is about one and a year old and I've never had any problem with it before. But last night it started making a hummimg sound in the right up corner and I'm guessing it is the fan. I was watching a movie and when I tured it off I heard the humming sound for the first time. I figured it would stop but it didn't. Anyone know what the problem might be? I don't even know if it is the fan but since  the sound is coming from a place where it should be one I'm guessing.

The fans increase in speed as more CPU cycles are used and when the temperature rises
perhaps you have other apps that's causing this

  • Google Voice txting not making a notification sound while talking on the phone

Does anyone else have the problem when you recieve a new txt message on google voice, you don't get any kind of notification sound while talking on the phone?  The only way I ever get notified is if I turn the screen back on and see the google voice widget new txt message.  I have tried different things to no avail.  On my old nonsmart phone, I had regular txting and it always notified me with a beep every few minutes until I checked the txt message.  Is there a way to do that at all with the charge and google voice?  Thanks.

It's on 4G LTE   I am getting all of the txt messages, except I am not recieving any sound notification when I am on a call.  Do any of the verizon employees or techs have any suggestions?  Everything is all set up correctly, and it notifies me with a sound just fine as long as I am not on a call.

  • Psu making a humming sound

I have had my intel 20" imac since February and all was well, up until a few weeks ago.
I started hearing a humming sound out of my imac (was silent before), at first I thought it might have been a fan kicking in but it sounds like a failing psu to me.
The back of the computer gets really hot on the top right (the same side as the power button), that's the same side as the psu right?
Maybe it's a fan, does the psu have a fan to cool it off?
I want to believe it's not a hardware problem, maybe one of the recent updates is causing this?

My iMac gets hot in the same place yours does and I believe this to be normal.
You could try resetting the SMC.

I take out the battery, plug it in the power. Charging light turns on.
I press the power button, power led turns on. Followed by the hdd led turn on, which blinks real quick, stays on for 1 second, then turns of. The power led stays on during all the time.
2 seconds after the power button, a fan starts blowing, while the above mention hdd led blinks for 1 second, 2 seconds after the fan starting to blow, it turns off.
We are now 4 seconds farther, pretty much, everything stopts, except a very tiny minor humming sound. (I just left it on for a couple minutes, sound remains, nothing happens.) (While writing this all I left it on for 10 minutes, the laptop heats op a bit, the adapter gets hotter, but still only the very tiny minor humming sound.)
+So my laptop works for 4 seconds, wont give any screen (black screen) wont load even BIOS. What could be wrong ?+
    _*Fixing?:*_
Ok so I left the laptop after a couple of months, being told it was dead, just getting it dusty. (Read history to get this)
But since last week, I figured its getting dusty, I never opened a laptop before, why wont I try doing that.
_+*I replaced the Memory modules, Slot A and B , both memories , same time, one at a time, all possible ways.*+_
_+*Since I have only 1 HDD, I used it in both slots. Looks to no difference. Using NO HDD, I do NOT have the very tiny minor humming sound!!!*+_
I followed a guide [http://www.irisvista.com/tech/] to open my laptop, to see what is inside.
Finding no lose plugs, but did find a certein oil, and some white paste.
Closing the laptop, to try it out, I accidently screwed a couple wrong screws in the laptop, piercing the top cover of my laptop, but no chips were hit during this :P (Yeah, Im a bit to strong, I should have figured using force for a couple of the screws wasnt the best thing I could do, but now i know :p)
*SOOO* My question, while I wait for the extra old HDD (getting it in 2 days). (Probably making no difference)
What could be wrong, more precisly. Should I like try taking out the video card or something ?
Is there something I should do with some soldering?
Any tips/tricks that could work, wether to fix the laptop, or to narrow down the problem , to a small part which i could replace ?

    _*History:*_
Not sure if this is any important, but just to let you know, if intrested what happend all to the laptop ;)
I bought the laptop at Shape Computers (in the netherlands) Asking this laptop mentioned above, with 2 things changed. I wanted more Memory, and I wanted windows XP. The shop told me this was possible. They bought me the laptop in, they replaced the Memory with the kingston memories. They installed windows XP instead of the Vista. They laptop did work at this very moment. So I bought the working laptop, with 1 year warranty.
With the folders extra given with the laptop, I was able to increase my warranty from 1 to 2 years for free, so I did.
After probably a couple of weeks I noticed that the laptop was getting real hot, after longer usage. But according to the manual this was normal.
I did use the laptop for gaming, but also 2 months for a gaming study. So I did take it several times to school in a backpack.
After not using it for school anymore I reinstalled Windows Vista 32 BIT
At a very point not sure when precisly I noticed that it wouldnt turn on (probably same problem as I have now) but I was really relaxed about it, tried it later, and somehow it did work again. This happend perhaps about 5 times in total.
Knowing something was wrong, I took it back to Shape Computers. They checked it. (Not showing me what they did to it) But they told me I had nothing to worry about.
After about 2 years I actually sold this laptop to my mom. She used it a couple times (she is like realy noob, just about computers in generally, not even knowing if she should double click icons or not) She took it with her a couple times on trips, and they after about 2 years and 2 months ... this problem happend.
My mom knows a guy, and a friend of that guy, works alot with broken laptops, which told me that the problem was the _+motherboard+_.
I decided to take it back to the shop. After a long progress being down there (about 6 to 8 weeks)(Me going to the shop like 15 times). The shop managed to tell me it was the motherboard. That the motherboard couldnt be fixed and that a new one would be way to expensive.
+(I Known at this very point, after getting the motherboard back, that this laptop was not screwed open yet. The screws were still brand new.)+
Funny information(not for me), during this period of about 8 weeks, they actually told me lies like ... I left a message at your voicemail, I DONT HAVE A VOICEMAIL ... sorry for the caps but im still xxxxxx about those lies.
So still believing the shop ... my laptop is gone .... dead ... but then since last week, I started looking into the laptop myself ...(Fixing)

Ok, the company did not reply at all ... I ended up sending another email. And they did reply with a automatic message. Now weeks later still nothing more then that auto reply.
While I was waiting I contacted another guy that knows alot from these laptops. Getting a new part would cost me about 300 euros, and thats just the part, not even replace time.
Considering the toshiba help I have gotten ... (pretty much none) in these last years.
I declare my laptop dead. And decide at this very moment, that I (ofcourse) never will buy toshiba hardware again.
I might pay a bit more at my Dell computers, but the support in the last 8 years with 5 different computer systems and 1 laptop. Has been perfect in compare to the toshiba support I have gotten in the last 3 years, which just fails.
Thx tho all you guys for the replys.

  • Ibook G4 superdrive making "eject" sound

This is strange. The superdrive on my ibook G4 is making a sound like it's ejecting a disc randomly. There will be no disc in the drive and it will make this sound (it feels like it's actually trying to push a disc out too).
I have my apple care protection plan, should I send it in, and what do I tell them.
    Thanks,

    Sounds like a faulty drive.
    Possbiilities:
You clear the PRAM/NVRAM (holding down the P R option and apple keys during the start-up, allowing for 4 chimes before releasing the keys.
You can also try to reset the PMU - Power Management.
While neither of the above pertains specifically to the drive, there may be other anomalies going on somehow affecting the drive. It's at least worth a try.
Otherwise, a certified tech examining the machine sounds like your next step.

  • What is my iphone making a sound (like a turn on sound) when I turn it on....never happened before!!!  How do I turn off this sound?

Not sure whats going on today...why is my Iphone making a sound when I turn it on...like a beep noise...it never happened before...how can I turn it off???

Does a Reset work? Mostly unlikely! [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

  • Humming sound like a ground loop with added hard drives

I get a humming low freq Hum from my MacPro from adding or added hard drives. I am using Seagates 320's ( 3 - non raid ). The MP is under my desk and I think some may not hear what I do if sitting on a desktop.
I can't figure out if it's a ground loop issue, more than one drive spinning at the same speed or some mechanical isssue, like metal to metal contact.
Just one drive with the OS. The Hum if still there is not something I am aware of or bothers me. But your room must be quiet to hear ir best.

As I mentioned before, some people will not hear the "hum" if the MP is sitting on your desk ( or one hard drive ) . Mine is under a large desk that is 6' long, which kinda amplifies the sound and creates a sound box for the low freq hum. Some what like adding a subwoofer. But when you add one or more drives it will Hum and I think I know the cause.
One is there is no isolation ( ie rubber ) between the hard drive mounting system, the (metal) inside frame and outer (metal) case. This causes the MP to become or act like a tuning fork.
For those who do hear the hum sound, you can take both hands on either side of the MP and "squeeze" the sides and hear the sound get lower. Take your hands off and hear it louder. So the whole MP is vibrating or creating "noise" or low freq Hum ( tuning fork) .
The problem is some what resolved with using 2 drives if you mount one in bay 1 and the second in bay 4. ( not side by side ) In other words, the sound is amplified to a higher degree if you have matching drives ( non raid ) next to eachother.
This issue will drive you nuts if you have it or can hear it. The MP stock 2.66 thats a month old is what I have. Maybe some other Macs don't show this same sound.
Whats interesting is the metal case, both outer and inter being connected as a "rigid unit" is causing or lets say, making matters worse. The other of which I have not plotted the freq, I think is around 60hz which just so happens to be the same as your " AC power". So the humming could sound like a ground loop, when in fact the sound originates from the hard drive and is being magnfied by the rigid non insulated MP that might be inhancing it's own "resonate frequency"and acting like a tuning fork.
Now if I am right and the MP is reacting as a tuning fork. What is the solution? I don't really know. And I have not tried any so called fixes other than switching bays. I have some ideas. But only those that would not cause a warrenty issue.
I hope Apple will take a look at the issue and see if a real engineer can first identify the issue and come up with a solution.

  • Humming sound from Mi

I recently upgraded to firmware version .0.02. My Micro was working fine till I turned it on from "deep sleep" (more than 4 hours) this morning. It froze on the "Zen Micro" screen and produced a loud humming sound (ZZZZZZZZ) through the earphones. I took out and reinserted the battery to reset the player and turned on the player. This time it froze at the "Rebuilding Library" screen and still produced the humming sound. I left it alone till I came to work and connected it to my computer and it rebooted, rebuilt the library and started working fine. I doubt it's a low battery problem because when it started working, it had 3 bars left.
Anyone else facing this problem? Hope it does not happen again...

There is no fan in hard drives. However, given there are rotating platters it is possible to get what is much like a blowing sound from them. It's actually the noise of the spindle bearings and is a rather distinctive rotation sound.
Depending on the volume of this noise Apple may or may not do anything about it as it's very subjective. Having sensitive hearing I find that most drives make some spindle bearing noise or other. In a quiet room I can distinctly hear mine.

  • Humming sound coming from speaker output

I did create a discussion on this before, but can't find it anywhere.
I have a Mac Pro 4,1 and recently noticed a humming sound on my wireless headphones. I thought it might be other wireless products interfiering with the headphone. However when I changed the preferences to internal speaker and line out the humming sound is still there.
I originally thought it may be an earthing issue but the humming noise sounds more like something interfiering.
The only update I have recently carried out was to install two SSD drives - one running Mountain Lion and the other running Snow Leopard.
Is it possible for a SSD drive to interfier with the video card?

    Hmmm interesting.
Where is this 'Thumbs' application located and how do I get to the tick box?
I have also just realised that while Logic Pro 9 is running the 30 second delay humming sound vanishes...
Apple support engineers are on it in my case

  • Humming sound construction fault?

I've got a brand new 27 iMac Core i7, but it produces a low humming sound which only disappears when you lift it up!?
It's sounding like an old transformer and you can feel the vibration on the table.
So I sent it back and received a new one, which is making exactly the same noise and now I'm waiting for the third one.
But I doubt if that will do any good, in my opinion this is a construction fault and not just a coïncidance. I wonder if they do listen themselves when assembling this machine?

  • Humming sound from bottom of laptop

dv6 laptop making continuous humming sound;  I cleaned the vents with compressed  air.  sound persists

I would put my ear right against the area under the plastic that has the image for hard drive (usually looks like a cylinder split into cylinders). Listen and see if you can feel it.  Next, put your ear near the fan exhaust and also the intake if you can find the holes for that.  The intake is usually on the bottom near the exhaust port.  The spacing should be large enough to give you an idea.  The other method is to remove the hard drive and see if the noise is still there.  Make sure you didn't just leave a DVD in the drive.
