HP8500 909g now refuses to print 2-sided

My printer, operating with Windows 7, has suddenly decided not to print 2-sided. It did fine before; I don't know of any change I made to the printer, although I have used a different computer with it. I have installed the HP software for the printer. When starting to print, the application asks if I want 2-sided and I say yes, but still get one-sided printing. The printer settings in the solution center are set to duplex printing.
I saw in another post somewhere that I should make sure that the printer is set to do 2-sided printing, but I've searched without success in the printer settings (front panel) without finding such a setting. I have checked that the duplex printing assembly is properly inserted into the back of the printer.
I have no idea where it came from, but I have a piece of black plastic as long as paper is wide (8.5") about 2 inches wide with snaps on one edge and the word "Front" embossed with an arrow. I have no idea if this came from the printer; I have (had) a lot of equipment around and some moved out. I mention it "just in case."

Hello Cleave,
Thanks for the reply!
I agree with you when you say sometimes it seems the machines have personalities! I hope the uninstall and reinstall of the printer software works for you. If you run into any troubles, feel free to always come back here!

Hi all, new proud and delighted owner of mac mini but am still using old XP windows PC as lots of stuff still on there. Decided today to install my HP photosmart series B010 printer/scanner via usb connection on mac mini rather than PC to have an easier, faster life. installing was a doddle BUT it now won't print two sided....always did before.
    Have tried going to Apple-software update but nothing happened;
Anyone know how to fix this pretty please?

    Hi,
The Two-Sided feature reffer to Automatic Two Sided Printing.
As the specific device provide manual duplexing only you may perform manual duplexing as following:
In order to perform manual duplexing, you shouls use the Pages to Print setting, as you may find listed below:

  • HP Laserjet P2035n is set to print double-sided, but I can't change it in the preferences

Last week i downloaded and printed a PDF file. Since then, my HP Laserjet 2035n is set to print double-sided. Here are the details.
I'm running an HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 7 Home.
The printer is set up as a network printer.
When I try to print something, it stops after one page waiting for me to re-feed the paper manually to print on the other side.
It's only this laptop that's messed up. My other computer prints fine
When I go to Printers, right click on the 2035n, and select "Printer Properties" and look at the bottom of the General tab, it reads under Features "Double Sided: Yes"
If I then click 'Preferences..." and go to the Finishing tab, under Document Options, the box "Print On Both Sides (Manually)" box is unchecked.
    Here's what I've tried:
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer
    I reinstalled the printer drivers
I have tried reinstalling under a different name
Any suggestions? Can someone tell me where the printer preferences file is so I can manually delete it then reinstall the printer drivers? Is there a tool for the P2035N to uninstal EVERYTHING related to it?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please try the following settings:
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
At the very bottom, uncheck the Allow Manual Duplexing option.
Now try printing and check for any change.
Please let me know of any change,

  • Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw won't print double sided anymore

Hello.   I have a Hp Color Laserjet pro M177fw until about three weeks ago it would print double sided no problems.  I have used this printer on my pc and now my mac with no problems previously.  I am running a Macbook Pro (less then six months old) which is running 10.10.1 (Yosemite).  I attend college and I know at the end of last quarter during finals week (Dec. 15th) I still had the ability to do 2 sided printing.  Sometime between then and the new quarter starting last monday I lost the ability to do 2 sided printing.  After scouring the internet I have tried everything they suggest:
    Uninstalling printer and reinstalling
resetting the printer setting on the mac and then reinstalling printer
resetting the printer settings on mac, rebooting and then reinstalling printer
installing older drivers( hp automatically installs newest drivers even if you use an older driver file)
resetting physical printer to factory default and reconnecting to wireless network.
    repairing the disk permissions
The only new software I have installed on the computer in the last three weeks is Adobe Creative Cloud and the printing problem preexisted that installation.

    Hi @Arboria9 ,
I see that you are experiencing issues printing two-sided from Yosemite. I would like to help you resolve this issue.
You have pretty much have done all the steps that I would have provided.
Are you still able to print two-sided from the Windows computer?
Are you missing the option to select two-sided printing in the print driver?
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. Make sure it shows just the printer's name.
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen it should show the printer's name. (Officejet 6500)
If the full printer name isn't listed correctly, delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
How was the printer name listed?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.

  • How to print double sided on Mac?

The enable icon is shadowed and I can't click it to enable it.  using a HP Deskjet printer connected to USB

This is the method I use for printing a 9-page manual. I have a printer that provides Face-down delivery of the finished pages.
    1) First, print the even pages oddly (in reverse order)
    2) -- then flip the output stack to the input tray, ready to print the reverse sides --
    3) Then print the odd pages evenly
so after step 1, I have pages 8,6,4,2 face down in the output tray. I take that stack and move it to the input tray facing the right way to print the odd pages. Then pages 1,3,5,7,  are printed on the opposites side of the paper, and page 9 prints on a blank sheet. Pages are in the output tray in correct order, face down.
The controls for doing this are on the "Paper Handling" pane of the standard Print dialog box, under Pages to Print {all, odd, even} and Page Order {Normal, Reverse}.
If your printer provides face up delivery, you will have to draw yourself some little diagrams and figure out exactly where to change my procedure, or invent a comparable one for your situation. The advantage to the rhyme is that I don't have to try to find the stinkin' piece of paper with the little diagrams a year from now when I want to print two-sided again.

  • Can't print double-sided on my HP printer (laserjet CP2025)

I have owned an HP laptop and printer (color laserjet CP 2025) for about one year. When I purchased the printer it said that the printer was not compatible with Windows 7 - I did not know this before i purchased the printer. I had to reset my computer recently and now do not  have the ability to print double-sided.  The printer works but I cannot print double-sided unless I manually insert the pages.  I had the ability to print double-sided before I reset the computer.  HELP! this is the most frustrating experience and I am hesitant to purchase another HP product because OF THIS BAD EXPERIENCE.  When under warranty I was able to contact HP and received information on how to get the printer to be fully functional, I can't do that now.  Does anyone know how to get this function working? Please help.

  • HP LaserJet P1006 refuses to print after a paper jam

I've used an HP LaserJet P1006 for 3 years now and it has performed without a hitch (I don't print that much).  However, recently it swallowed a sheet of paper in a rather crooked fashion that left it gasping, and I had to shut it down.  I was abled to carefully remove the paper after first removing the ink cartridge, but when I tried to print again, it would not do it.  I went through the entire check-up procedure the manual suggests, but no dice, it refuses to print.  This morning I tried something I did not tried before, which was printing  a "Demo Page" under the "Print Information Pages" of the "services" tab of the "Printing Preferences" menu.  To my surprise it printed the Demo Page.  However, it refuses to print anything else, like the "print test page" or print from any other program. Intimidation with a sledge hammer doesn't work either.  Any ideas anyone?  I'd appreciate your comments.  Thanks. JD
    WindowsXP

Thanks for the tip Royal_KB,  I tried what you suggested but no dice.
I tried the HP Print Diagnostic Utility v4.1 with the following results:
    1)  Before I tried to print, I clicked on the FIX button and it said:  "No problems were found for HP laserJet P1006"  and all checkmark circles are green. A small window pops up that states:   ""The HP Print Diagnostic Utility is not detecting any remaining issues.  Click PRINT A TEST PAGE to check your printer operation"".  I click to print, and a second window asks if I really want to print.  I say YES, but no printing takes place, the printer doesn't even attempt to print, though the light on the printer is green. So I click on RETEST I get the same behavior all over again.  ""No problems were found for HP laserJet P1006""  and all checkmark circles are green.  I try everything suggested by the HPPDU v4.1 and I find myself in a catch 22 situation,  so I do 2) next
    2)  I  go to  PRINTING PREFERENCES > SERVICES tab > PRINT INFORMATION PAGES >  select DEMO PAGE  >  PRINT button..............The printer then turns on,  and prints a perfect demo page of the printer.  I have tried to make this printer print through other programs and test pages etc. etc., but the Demo Page is the only thing it will print.  I'd appreciate any other suggestions.  Trebuchet candidate maybe?
    Thanks

  • HP 8620 printer two sided printing reverses pages

Is there a way to change the order that this printer prints double sided prints? It prints last page first, so if it is 3 pages pages 2 & 3 are one page and page 1 is just one-sided.  Need this to be reversed.  Can you do this in the Mac driver?
    Lisa

    Hello @thekoaman,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when duplex printing from your Mac OS X 10.10 Computer to your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer. I want to thank you for including all of the detail regarding the troubleshooting steps you have already completed in your posts. At this time I do believe that there is either a driver corruption on your computer with the HP Officejet, or an issue with the file that you're attempting to duplex. If multiple documents  are experiencing the duplexing page order issue than that will rule out a corrupted document. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
Step 1: Reset the Print System:
To start, I am going to have you Reset the Print System on your Mac as it is important that we have a nice clean slate to work with for troubleshooting. Please click here for instructions on how to perform the Reset. When the website opens follow the steps under'Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion' as the steps are the same for your Mac OS X 10.10 Operating System. This Reset will remove every printer from your Mac. However, it does not uninstall the printers. Therefore, should you use other printers on this Mac, once the Reset is complete simply ensure that the printers are connected via a USB Cable or Network connected and (+) Add them back in. Do not add your HP Officejet back in at this time.
Once the reset is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
Next, please click here for steps on how to properly uninstall your printer. Once the site opens select the dropdown for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9'  as they are the same for Mac OS X 10.10 and follow the steps to complete the uninstall process.
Once the uninstall is complete, please continue on.
Step 3: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 4: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
    Step 5: Add the Printer:
    1. Please click here to download the correct drivers for your printer.
    2. Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left
    3. Once the download is complete, please follow the onscreen instructions to install your printer
    4. Once the installation is complete, I would like you to check your driver to ensure that the HP Officejet driver is being used and not the AirPrint driver.
    5. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    6. Click Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
    7. If your printer is already listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer
    8. Click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
    9. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Ensure that you have the HP Officejet driver selected and not the AirPrint.
    10. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
    - Source
Now that the driver is added back in successfully, please try duplex printing again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • How to print two-sided automatically in Adobe Reader 10.1.2?

Hello, when I want to print two-sided with my printer I select this option:
And my printer does it automatically, I do not have to reload the paper.
However, in the new version of Adobe Reader, after selecting that option this one is automatically checked:
And I have to reload the paper manually:
Can the problem be solved? This did not happen in previous versions.
The printer is an HP P1606dn and I am using Adobe Reader 10.1.2. Sorry about the screen captures in spanish.

    Hi, Shatik
    Thanks for replying.
The DFS shares are mapped as a network drive. This is done just once using a batch file that uses the persistent switch. No roaming profiles, no username\application data path.
Since posting this I can now access PDF's, but many of our staff are now unable to scroll through an entire pdf without Adobe Reader hanging. Again, removing the checkmark in the protected mode option allows full scrolling of a pdf.
Disabling/enabling antivirus real-time scanning makes no difference.

  • Officejet 7310xi does not print two-sided automatically after installing Windows 8.1

When I first purchased my Officejet 7310xi and installed it on my Windows XP desktop PC it worked fine printing two-sided documents automatically. I recently purchased a new desktop PC with Windows 8 and upgraded it to Windows 8.1 and downloaded and installed the Officejet software drivers from the HP download site. But now the printer will not print two-sided documents AUTOMATICALLY -- when this option is selected, I get a pop-up screen telling me to remove the documents from the out tray, turn them around, and reinsert them in the feed bin, i.e., it acts as if I requested two-sided MANUAL printing.

    Hi,
Make sure the Automatic Duplexing option is enabled:
Enter Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon, then click Printer Properties.
    Click the Device Settings tab.
Set the Automatic Two-Sided Duplex Accessory as installed and click OK to save the change.
Now Automatic Duplexing should become available.

  • LaserJet 1015 on Win 7 (32-bit) won't print double-sided

I was always able to print double sided on XP without any problem. But after I got a new PC with Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit (with driver from win 7 itself), it would no print double-sided anymore, even though I checked the option for it in the printer option dialog box. Even the on screen reminder to instruct you to take out the papers and re-enter them for printing the other side doesn’t appear anymore. The manual double sided printing' checkbox in the driver dialog is now totally useless.  Please help.

Have the same problem with a LaserJet 1150... did manual double-sided printing fine in Windows XP, but when the computer was upgraded to Win7 64-bit, it prints single-sided every time, even when you select the options for double-sided, and the Continue button does not appear. Has anyone found a fix for this?  I've tried all sorts of configurations in the driver properties/preferences.

  • Unable to Print 2-Sided on L7780...

Hello...I have a L7780 that has worked fine for approximately a little over one year.  I was printing from Tray #2 (legal-sized paper) the other day & suddenly experienced numerous paper jams.  Multiple times, I had to remove the duplexer, as well as open the print-carriage access door to clear the jams.  Eventually, I was able to resolve the issue & printing resumed in a normal fashion.
Today...I wanted to print a PDF document & found that it was only printing one side of each page; however, 2 sides would successfully print intermittently.  I checked all of my settings & tried again, to no avail.  I thought that perhaps it was the document.  I tried another PDF document & then a Word document...same results.
I aligned & cleaned the printheads, as well as ensured that the printheads were in correctly.  I also calibrated the linefeed.  I checked to make certain that the duplexer was inserted correctly ~ I removed it & reinserted it.  The printer will feed the paper back through, as it always has...it simply will not print on both sides of the paper consistently, as it is supposed to.
I am unable to print a 'Self-Diagnostic' page ~ only a very tiny strip of the heading of this document will print.
I also went into the printer properties to make sure that my accessories were installed...I uninstalled & re-installed them.  I have unplugged & plugged the printer back in the socket.
There are no alerts that come up after the printer boots up & runs through its self-diagnostics.
I have also tried to print from both trays.
Additionally, I installed the S/W listed below...
HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software And Driver
I am very concerned, as this is a replacement for another printer (different model) & the duplexer was the problem w/the previous printer.  I appreciate any suggestions or input that anyone might have.
I use this printer wirelessly & my OS is Vista Ultimate 64-bit.
    Thank you!

Apparently, I have similar problem as yours. My L7780 wireless all-in-one printer worked perfectly fine for a bit more than a year but now the printer kept on popping an error message that says out of paper, load paper when printing two-sided documents. At first, it prints 2-sided erratically and then deteriorates with that error message popping up after every 2-sided printing attempt.  I have tried every possible solution (e.g. using different tray, fan the paper stack and re-insert, re-startting both printer and computer, and so forth) but none was successful. I paid $500 for this unit with no third party warranty coverage. Sigh...

  • InDesign File "Stuck" Printing 2-Sided

I opened an old Indesign (I think CS3) file this morning and converted it to CS4. Whenever I attempt to print the document, it does so as 2-sided even though the print dialog 2-sided option is off. I am on a mac running 10.6.3 with an HP printer.
Turning the printer on/off, re-starting the mac, printing other documents (including Indesign documents) 1-sided, saving the file under a different name, turning 2-sided on/off, and changing other print dialog options (e.g. thin border) seem to have no effect on the problematic file - it consistently prints as 2-sided. I finally cut and pasted all content into a new document and now have complete control again over whether the document prints 2-sided.
It seems as though there is some printer setting stored within the Indesign file that that I cannot modify. I don't recall how I last printed that particular Indesign document under CS3. Other other CS3 documents that I suspect I would have printed 2-sided are converted to CS4 with the current default printer settings AND with no adverse effects when I print them
This clearly isn't a big deal because after wasting a ream of paper (some sarcasm), I've resolved the problem. However, it is so weird that I am curious as to whether any one else has seen this.
    Marilyn
P.S. I use InDesign daily, have been using CS4 for over a year and have not had an problem. I am a bit suspicious of the mac 10.6.3 upgrade I got this week 'cause in claimed it would "increase printer reliability"...

I suspect it is more of a problem that  Mac OS 10.6.3 introduced to InDesign. The print driver hasn't changed. InDesign I now know "carries" print presets with its files that are persistent and has one of the more complicated interfaces with the OS for printing.
I did figured out I could use the Property List Inspector to look at the print settings used  for the last job printed. I can produce dumps from the inspector from various jobs and us File Merge to compare them. Doing so I noticed that Text Edit files (whether printing 2-sided or not) all contain a key called PMCustomPaper that is explicitly set to false. New InDesign document using the Default InDesign Print Preset doesn't set PMCustomPaper to true or false. If I create an InDesign Print Preset from a file that successfully prints 2-sided, I can use that Print Preset to "fix" InDesign Document to print 2-sided. The Property List Inspector for such print jobs has PMCustomPaper set explicitly to false.
I also look at the output of a Property List Inspector dump from the InDesign document I have that was "stuck" printing 2-sided. It too has PMCustomPaper explicitly set to false, but has has very different keys for what I believe controls printing duplex. These keys stay set in the file despite changing the InDesign printer dialog to turn 2-sided off. I suspect these keys are left over from an older HP driver or an older Mac OS release.
Seems a little ridiculous to have to go though Acrobat or find old InDesign programs that have the proper settings to get InDesign to print properly now.
(I doubt 2-sided is the only problem - I suspect it's just the first one I've run across.)

  • Photosmart 6520 Printing 2-sided without binding

I am trying to print a Two-Sided Brochure from Adobe InDesign CC, but every time I try, one side of the Artwork gets cut off on both the front and the back on the Short side. When I have US Letter selected I receive this message, "The Two-Sided option, Long-edge binding, is not available when the destination paper size is set to US Letter." Which I find ridiculous, because my old Photosmart c309g never had an issue like this when printing two-sided
I have tried switching to "US Two Sided Margins" and then clicking Long-Side Binding, but even when I do this the short side gets cut off. Even when I chose  "Scale to Fit" the side gets cut off....I have tried finding ways to lessen the width of the "binding" area and also tried to find options to decrease the margins when printing "two-sided margins."
So I exported my InDesign file as a PDF and tried to Print from Acrobat Pro and it gave me the same error message, "The Two-Sided option, Long-edge binding, is not available when the destination paper size is set to US Letter." Only Acrobat doesnt even offer an option for "US LETTER TWO-SIDED MARGINS." Again even with Scale to Fit chosen, both the fornt and back have the artwork cut off on the short side.
There is no paperwork included that explains two-sided printing and the online manual is no help either.
Furthermore, the picture on the box shows a picture with NO white edges and Full bleed printing...is this possible with this model, or is the picture false advertising?
All I want is to print equally on both sides of the paper like I could with my old Photosmart Printer. Thanks for the Help.

    Thank you!
I am going to lay out all of my suggestions to you below. I hope they help you!
If the issue is coming from the printer hardware or software, these steps should correct it:
Follow the steps in this guide:
If the guide does not help, in order try these steps:

  • HP all-in-one C6180 with a duplexor fitted that printed double sided under Win XP but not Win 7 32bi

I have an HP all-in-one C6180 with a duplexor fitted.
I could print double sided under Wimdows XP but have now upgraded to  Windows 7 32-bit.
I have installed the latest drivers for the C6180 from the HP site.
    I cannot print double
sided because in Printer Properties > Device Settings > Installable Options the "Duplex unit for 2-sided printing" option is not available for Install.
Can you please provide a patch or the latest driver with the Install option enabled please.
    Regards,
    John Seager

You may need to enable the duplexer while logged in as a user with administrative privledges.  Alternately go to the Devices and Printers folder, right clisk on the C6180, Printer Properties, Security, and click the settings to allow "Manage this printer" for the user.
