HpCDDVDW TS-T633P SCSI CD Rom Device stopped playing DVD, ok with CD's.

HP Touch Smart, Product Number NY538AA has stopped reading DVD's in the Windows Media Center. Mr FixIt says the hpCDDVDWTS-T633P SCSI CD Rom Device is not enabled and also needs an assigned drive letter. Also say one or more class-specific filter drivers are missing/corrupt. Also says the drive is empty or the media format is not supported. This is a Window 7 64 bit Touch Smart 600 purchased in Spring of 2010. This senior lady has spent four hours trying to figure out how to replace this drive..... help me please. Thank you to anyone who can list the steps to fix this problem and what is the name of the drive I am looking for?????

I know because I downloaded three different media players with the codes that were needed. Still would not play. Because HP software blocks it. Long as your CD/DVD ( E. Drive) is working no need to relpace it. Name of is Optical Drive. Yours is still working fine. You just need this update. OK Yes it will still play some DVD's but not all them. OK

IMac 9.1 has stopped playing DVDs, ejects them after about ten seconds without reading them

This morning my iMac has stopped playing DVDs altogether. It had been struggling to play them before, but now it won't even read them.
I'm running a 9.1, so the warranty is well past due. Not sure if there's anything I can do at this point to fix it, tried to manually eject the SuperDrive in Applications (as per a troubleshooting method) but that doesn't work either. Anyone know a way to fix this?

I would start first with some basic resets, do a SMC AND PRAM reset first, do each 2-3 times and then test. If you don't know how please click Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets. If those don't work then I suspect your SuperDrive is either dirty or worn out. You can go to your local office supply store and get a CD/DVD cleaning kit. If that fails then take the machine in for service.

DVD Player Just stopped Playing DVDs

Just today, the DVD player has stopped playing DVDs on my ibook. I tried putting in a multitude of diferent DVDs, but I always got the same result: the disc image would not appear in the desktop, and the DVD player would open, as if it were in standby, but it would not play. Any idea as to what may have happened/how I could remedy this?

Follow these steps and you should be on your way to watching your DVD's:
1) First, Quit DVD Player if open.
2) Eject your DVD.
2) Go to: Home > Library > Preferences.
3) Find the file called: com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist and move it to the trash.
4) Insert your DVD.
5) If necessary, launch DVD Player.

Stopped playing DVD's

MBP 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo stopped playing DVD's. THe DVD's work fine in my other MBP 2.4 Core Duo with the same hardware. My 2.6 spins about 15-20 seconds then ejects. Some posts say it's firmware, others say it's hardware failure.
The firmware noted in system profiler of non-working Mac 2.6 is: AP12
The firmware noted in system profiler of working Mac 2.4 is: ZA0E
Is the 2.6 Mac up to date?

My MIDI device stops playing notes and starts triggering keyboard shortcuts

My M-audio keystation 61e
stops playing notes after a while.
Like it has a about 1 or 2 octaves and
then any higher or lower you go, they start becoming shorcuts.
ex. Undo, paste, splice...

Open the key commands window, turn off MIDI remote. Check you haven't assigned MIDI notes to key commands. Open the controller assignments window, and again check you haven't got weird assignments.
If in doubt, trash both your Logic preference files and see if it goes away.

CD, CD ROM won't play / DVD ok. Compaq Presario A940

AMD 64 bit dual processor. Windows Vista SP1. Someone else reinstalled operating system, but didn't upgrade any drivers, or microsoft updates. I performed all updates from Microsoft, and drivers listed from HP, including BIOS Flash. This solved numerous problems, including wireless access. Both sound and video are perfect on DVD. With CD, or CD ROM, you just hear the CD spin, quiver as if it's trying, but nothing is recognized. Device manager doesn't show any problems. Only DVD is listed. Rather than just remove and reinsert DVD / CD player into it's connector, I swapped it with a known good one, same model number; HP Super Multi DVD Rewriter; Model-GSA-T20N (S05D) Same problem persists. I didn't check device manager again yet to see if there are any changes. I'm almost certain this is a driver issue, but since I'm here on this forum, I'm open to any relevant suggestions. I usually try to find the simplest solution, which usually works

I'm not sure that this is a driver issue, as the CD/DVD drive should at least recognize that there is a disc in the drive. I've made no software changes, checked registry filters, and even uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes betting that the issue was software related. No joy. If yours is like mine, it returns a "unsupported media" error message (although mine is a CD media recognition issue). I saw where someone advised to uninstall the controller entry under the IDE ATA/ATAPI section in Device Manager, reboot, and scan for new hardware. Still no joy for me.
I'm currently looking to do a hardware replacement, and was thinking about upgrading to a Blu-ray drive. Still looking for solutions before having to replace, but everything that I see points to a hardware issue. Still looking though.

Thank you for your reply. I finally figured out that I needed to use the disk utility and erase using the MS-DOS (FAT) option and making sure there were no other partitions. Then I simply used finder to tag music in my iTunes library and drag them to my USB drive. Most of my music is MP3 although my Kenwood will read several formats.

Stopped playing DVDs

I put in a dvd, an official/unburnt dvd, and the DVD Player app will open, read everything fine up to the point where I make the selection to choose an episode or special features etc. When I click play, the colour wheel/beach ball comes up and everything freezes. The DVDs will work on my sony dvd player so it's not the dvd itself.

I double Lion is the cause, likely a DVD region issue or a bad Lion install.

My new HP laptop has stopped playing dvd's

Hello I want to first apologize as i'm sure this topic has been discussed before but i'm new at this and have not been successful in finding a solution to my problem. I have previously been able to play dvd's with no problem but today I went to redbox to get a couple movies, came home to watch and my dvd drive just doesn't seem to be working. I can't get it to automatically play. I burned a few cd's today so, i'm not sure what the issue may be. Any help would be greatly appreciated as one of the main reasons I purchased an HP system is from all the good things I heard about how they run. I have only had this laptop for a couple months now and all of a sudden this. Thank you in advance.

this sounds more like a software issue rather than hardware. i would recommend finding a new dvd software like Divx or try to update the software you have.

New ipod 30 gig 5th gen. Stops playing in the middle of songs

My brand new device stops playing a song. It does not matter if the hold button is onor not. The display still shows the song. I hit the play button and it continues. Might work for 5 seconds or five songs. No rhyme or reason. I have done the 5 R's, but it does not solve the problem. Any advice?

Can I use a SCSI hard drive in a SCSI CD-ROM enclosure?

I have an external SCSI hard drive which has stopped working.
It has been going OK for some time, but has suddenly ceased completely, i.e. the light doesn't even come on when I plug it in.
I'm guessing from this that it may be the power supply that's at fault - which is good, because there is data on the drive I need to access.
My question is, can I simply transfer the drive to a SCSI CD-ROM enclosure and access it from there?
The reason I'm not just sucking-it-&-see is that I really really don't want to risk frying the drive, because some of the data is not backed up.

The vast majority of those jumpers have to do with SCSI addressing. Each device on the SCSI Bus needs a unique address. The Controller takes #7, the built-in CD takes #3, and the built-in drive (if present) is most often 0.
If you can reverse the jumper-block built into the case, you may be able to get the number dial to work. If not, you can ignore it and set the address semi-permanently with jumpers directly on the drive. There appears to be more than one set on your drive, just choose the most accessible set and use only those. It's the setting on the Drive that will determine the address, not the case.
jumper marked 8 counts for 8 if present
jumper marked 4 counts for 4 if present
jumper marked 2 counts for 2 if present
jumper marked 1 counts for 1 if present
add-em-up to get the SCSI address.
No jumpers give address zero. A final Address of either 1 or 2 or 4 can be made with only one jumper.

845GMax won't boot from SCSi CD-ROm

I have an MSI 845GMax that I can't get to boot from my SCSI CD-ROM.
I am trying to install XP and it just hangs at the "Setup is detecting your hardware..." prompt.
Any advice?

It's been a month and a half and have had no luck with MSI's support. I have found a couple of other users that suffer a similar problem to mine though.
So at least it's not me. Would be nice to hear from MSI support on this though.
Here is the description I sent in to tech support. Maybe they will read it here!
Here is a better description of my problem.
My system is all SCSI, no IDE. The board was used for a
week or 2 with IDE hard drive & CD-ROM and never had this long pause at boot.
If I boot a DOS floppy the system boots "normally".
That said let me tell you what my testing has shown.
Booting off CD-ROM:
Place bootable WindowsXP disk into cdrom & hit power.
Get the AMI BIOS logo
then SCSI card bios...Finds the HD's, the CDRom & I get the
"bootable disk" banner
then the Intel NIC's bios banner
then back to the "second" AMI bios summary screen.
Get "press any key to boot CD" message from XP CDROM
Get "Setup is detecting your hardware" banner
~4 minutes later it boots & installs fine
Booting from Hard Drive
Hit power button
Get the AMI BIOS logo
then SCSI card bios...Finds the HD's & the CDRom
then the NIC's bios banner
then back to the "second" AMI bios screen.
then black screen for 2 for minutes
then XP's "booting XP" startup screen.
I also installed the XP "Recovery Console" (run winnt.exe /cmdcons) from
the XP install cd. Search help on XP for "recovery console" for more
info.
Booting with Recovery console boot menu:
press power button
Get the AMI BIOS logo
then SCSI card bios...Finds the HD's & the CDRom
then the NIC's bios banner
then back to the "second" AMI bios screen.
Get Microsoft Recovery console boot menu select "recovery console"
get "NTDETECT is checking your hardware..." message
(like the blue startup screen when WindowsNT booted)
it pauses for 2-4 minutes here
then it boots me into the recovery console.
It looks to me like it is NTDETECT.COM taking a long time to
detect all the installed hardware.

Non Mac devices stopped connecting to TC wireless

I have a fairly new Time Capsule (purchased Dec., 2011). It has been working fine with my 2 iMacs, my Lenovo laptop from work when I bring it home, and various guests with various devices. My problem is with my Toshiba NB505 Netbook (which I bought for a light, cheap machine to travel with) and my Kindle Fire. Both the Toshiba Netbook and Kindle Fire used to connect fine, but have recently stopped even seeing the WiFi network from the Time Capsule. I thought something was wrong with the devices, but on a recent trip, both connected to various WiFi networks where we stayed. On returning home, they again don't recognize my home WiFi from the Time Capsule at all, and cannot connect.
I read several discussions here that suggested removing the existing WiFi network, resetting the Time Capsule and starting all over again. This made no difference. Macs, yes. Other devices (except my Lenovo), no.
It seems like this started after I recently upgraded the Time Capsule Firmware to 7.6.1. I saw a suggestion here that there are problems with 7.6.1, and to try reverting to Firmware 7.5.2. I tried this, but again no improvement.
Any suggestions?

Are you using a name for your TC and wireless which has spaces and that Apple horror to the SMB world. an apostrophe.. ?? They are illegal.
Change all the names, short.. no spaces .. pure alphanumeric.
Give a different name to 5ghz on the wireless options page.
Use WPA2 Personal security.. with 8-12 character passkey. Pure Alphanumeric.
Then start down the wireless fixing road.
1. Lock the channels .. this is the key change.. at 2.4ghz there are 3 channels that do not overlap.. 1, 6, 11 try each in turn. 5ghz is not such a big issue.. but try locking it as well if any of the devices use it.
2. If you still have issues.. lock the wireless mode.. a/n - b/g which will drop the speed on g wireless. But is far more compatible with other wireless devices.
3. Make sure you load windows version of airport utility on the win computers.. and bonjour as well. This helps windows locate it.
Test in the same room as the TC.. don't expect it to have particularly good range because it doesn't.
