HPDM 4.6 vs. Thin Client Out of Network

I just finished setting up and testing a thin client at my house, connecting back to the HP Gateway/Server in the office.  With enabling port forwarding, and configuring the HPDM Agent on the thin client, everything is working great, except for one thing...  Any task I send to the thin client goes to "Sending" status , and then it will sit there until the thin client is rebooted manually.  Once the thin client boots back to where it was, the task that was sent executes successfully.  This includes Shadowing, Renaming, Changing Time/Screensave settings, etc. Can someone point me in whatever direction is necessary to change this behavior?  I'm thrilled that it's working at all, except for requiring a reboot for every single task. Thanks in advance!

Hi, Could you please shorten the "pull interval" on the client side? You can change it through "Agent Configuration" UI on the clide side. Based on your description, your tested thinclient is behind NAT relative to DM gateway.  In this case, every tasks send to DM gateway cannot be sent to DM agent directly. The task will wait until DM agent get it actively. Pull Interval is the parameter to trigger the "PULL" task from DM gateway, it was set to 1 day by default which means agent will pull task from Gateway for only once every day. Restart the agent is another way to trigger the "pull" action, that why your task works after reboot the client.

  • HPDM using WOL with thin clients using WES8

    When using HPDM 4.6 with t620 clients using WES8, the Wake on LAN option does not work.It makes it impossible to do settings and deployments outside office hours.How can this be fixed?

    Hi,
    Thin clients normally have a low memory allocation on the video card (8mb to 16MB) so this can be a problem.  Check to see if you can change this in the BIOS on the WYSE.  If not connect at 256 Colours to reduce this.  If you have pictures linked to products then their resolution will not be good but for SAP itself the difference is small.  Also rename the SAPSS.AVI to .old if you have not already done so so that the splash screen does not come up when logging in.
    In my multimedia testing on thin clients, unrelated to SBO, I found that both memory and processor power made a huge difference, which is contrary to thin client manufacturer claims.  As an example I used a 200MHz/64MB TC for a flash application and sound was about 3 seconds behind the image and the image update would skip 3 to 5 frames when updating.  Moving to a 800Mhz/128MB TC The frame refresh rate was almost perfect and the sound was only about 0.5 seconds behind.  I would therefore test on a more powerful thin client to see if it improves performance.
    The S30 is a 400MHz (rated @ 533 on performance by AMD).   Try a 1GHz TC with the maximum Video memory you can find.
    We are currently using VXL Itona 800Mhz/128MB and do not experience too much rolling but we are using 256 colours.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installing Adobe Reader on a Thin Client

    I have 27 Thin clients (HP t5639w) to set up in the next day or two... the problem: right out of the box, I am unable to install Adobe Reader on them. I have made room to install by using a flash drive to increase RAM, and Reader appears to have successfully loaded, but each time I try to open after install I get the following error message: "Font Capture: AcroRd32.exe Application Error.... The exception unknown software. Exception (0xc06d007e) occurred in the application at location 0x7c812afb."
    I've tried to contact HP customer support - unfortunately, they refer me to the HP website and tell me to download the version there. It's the same version I've tried to install - no luck. I have installed other software on the Thin Clients successfully, but I'm only having an issue with Reader.
    Anyone else have a similar issue? Any ideas?

    Here's the process:
    ·         Download Adobe to USB drive
    ·         Remove write filter – reboot
    ·         Create temporary TEMP and TMP folders on C: drive
    ·         Change Windows TEMP variables (both TEMP and TMP) to a folder on the “Hard Disk” – Reboot (Make a note of values before changing).
    ·         Install Adobe Reader – Reboot
    ·         Run Adobe Reader – If runs reboot
    ·         Replace TEMP and TMP variable entries (Usually Z:\TEMP and Z:\TMP respectively) – Reboot
    ·         Delete temporary TEMP and TMP folders – reboot
    ·         Re-enable write filter
    This worked for me!

  • Font Smoothing CE 6.0 Thin Clients

    We need to handle Font Smoothing on HP Thin Clients. This is supported on newer Thin Clients with RDP7 and Font Smoothing settings.
    Older Win CE 6.0 do not appear to support Font Smoothing.
    Is there a way to set up Font Smoothothing or can these thin clients be updated with RDP option to support Font Smoothing?
    Thanks Lex

    I too had the same problem just last night. It happened when I was changing the font and font size. It seemed that everytime I switched the font and font size, the text got more and more pixelated and less smooth (identical to the screenshot you just posted).
    I backed up my Torch, did a security wipe and then restored the backup file back onto the device. That didn't work, as the text still looked horrible.
    So what I did next was do a device switch from my Torch back onto my Bold 9000, security wiped the Torch then did a device switch from the Bold 9000 back onto the Torch and the text was back to normal! It was a long process but it seemed to do the trick. So if you have another BlackBerry sitting around it might be worth trying, just remember to back up your Torch before hand.
    My Torch is also running v6.0.0.246, Platform 6.4.0.105 through Rogers. Hope this helps you out.
    Good Luck!

  • Establish SSL connection to Oracle Instance w/JDBC Thin Client

    Hello all,
    I am writing a monitoring utility that will allow me to establish connections to both Oracle instances and LDAP repositories and query them to determine that they are up and running. My utility consists of a number of objects that handle connections to the LDAP and Oracle instances. I need to be able to do SSL and non-SSL connections to said instances.
    My issue is this: I am able to do SSL and non-SSL to LDAP, and non-SSL to an Oracle instance. I am having problems, though, establishing an SSL connection to an Oracle instance (I am using the thin client). Whenever I try, a SQLException is thrown that states: "Encountered a problem with the secret store. Check the wallet location for the presense of an <b>open</b> wallet (cwallet.sso) and ensure that the wallet contains the correct credentials..."
    Ok, a little background for those who may need it. Oracle uses a wallet to hold certs that allow SSL connections. I have a wallet on my box, and, from the command line, I am able to sqlplus into and tnsping the appropriate Oracle instances, so I know it is setup properly. The inability to connect only occurs in my code. My code looks like this:

  • T410 thin client RDP Client Error Windows XP SP3 issue

    I've switched out the VMs they were connecting to completely and we're still running into this issue. The next step is switching out the thin clients themselves. Bump if anyone's run into this issue before.

    I'm having an issue with 2 of my HP Smart Zero t410 thin clients. They each RDP into an XP SP3 virtual machine hosted on a virtual server running VWWare ESXi 5.0.0. Randomly in the morning they'll both disconnect from their virtual machines. Sometimes at the same time, sometimes not. I'm monitoring both the thin clients and the virtual machines with software that pings everything 30 seconds, nothing ever drops a ping. I've tested the wire, the wire is good. I've made sure the thin clients are up to date with the latest firmware. The last thing I've tried is replacing the switch both of these machines are connection. One thin client comes up with an error message "RDP Client Error: Reboot Necessary" then below "The firmware has experienced a critical error. Please reboot this client." After I close the error I can RDP back in. The other thin client also gives an "RDP Client Error" and down below mentions MANTICORE but I did not write down the entire error message. I have 30 other t410's deployed at various locations, all connected via RDP to a Windows Server 2008 R2 terminal with no issue for over a year. These last two have maybe in for three weeks and have continuously thrown this error randomly. Any help is appreciated.

  • Synchronising 6210 Classic through Thin Clients an...

    Hi all,
    I have serveral users needing to sync phones. Our current setup seems to be playing havoc with PC Suite.
    The phones plug in via USB cable into HP t5730 thin clients with XPe. From here they log directly into HP bc2000 blade PC's. The blades are running XPP SP2 with HP RGS V5.1.6 sitting between blade and thin client. (Still waiting on HP to tell us how to upgrade to v5.2)
    USB passthrough is working fine with all other devices. I.e - every other USB device that has ever been plugged into one of our thin clients have worked fine (e.g. blackberry).
     PC Suite knows that the phone is there, sees it properly etc. However as soon as you ask it to actually interact with the phone, nothing happens. It asks you to plug one in - even though it tells you one is there.
    This happens for anything that PC suite would need to contact the phone for. After it does initial handshake, its like it just stops.
    I have installed v7.1.18.0 and am having no luck.
    Please help before our users hunt us down and burn us at the stake!

    I have loaded up V 7.1.30.9 and have had no success. I have tried different phones, (same model) on different machines and have ruled all of that out.
    HP have said that the RGS protocol works simply as a passthrough, and all information given to either the blade or the thin client is 100% passed through to the other.
    The only thing left to look at is PC suite.
    Any ideas?

  • Arch Linux as Thin Client, PXE, LTSP

    Hey there all, been using Arch for about a year now, from Gentoo through Zenwalk, gotta say that Arch is bar none the best so far. I think it's the way that it doesn't try to hide the system internals through abstraction (where every distro has it's own abstraction methodology).
    I'm thinking in the future that I'd like to do a network-wide deployment of "terminals" for a non-profit. I say "terminals" in because unlike a true thin client, the idea was to have PXE booting to NFS and using the local hardware more. I'm fond of the idea of centralizing system management to a single system installation, and using solid-state machines.
    VNC, NX, RDP seem to be out of the question because I need clients to have native multimedia applications like the Flash plugin, and Skype. I could see audio and video redirection becoming a pain. But having the full installation on the client doesn't seem like the right thing to do because then I've got specific machines with specific problems that I'd have to diagnose. Virtualizing an entire OS session for each user would require a powerhouse server, and then we are stuck with a graphical redirection like VNC, NX, RDP. Linux Terminal Server Project really seems to be on track, they've got a great customization method, but again, they're using XDMCP and sending raw X data over the network.
    I envision the clients as being mostly web browser-centric to interface with the necessary applications, and using software like Sun Global Desktop or NoMachine NX to connect to individual Windows applications on a Windows server when needed.
    I'm looking at the Fit-PC2 as a possible thick-client solution. It's an Intel Atom based PC with an AMD Geode graphics solution, 512MB of soldered RAM, really low energy consumption.
    The wiki doesn't seem to address having more than one client using an NFS-mounted root. If you have more than one client writing .pid and other /var files, this doesn't seem like a feasible idea.
    So I suppose that the / has to be mounted in RAM, and only the static dirs like /usr /bin /boot swap are NFS imports?
    At first the network would be homogenous, but if we add computers with differing graphics cards
    So, in summary:
    * Any clues on multiple clients using one NFS root?
    * How to autoconfigure X.org and other differing hardware?
    It sounds like a fun challenge, wondering if anyone else has tried anything like it.
    Last edited by VitaminJ (2009-10-19 00:42:31)

    I don't really know enough about this to offer any real advice, but as far as multiple machines using a single NFS root goes, you could look into mounting it on all your clients read-only, and using a union filesystem (eg aufs2, unionfs), such that you can use another partition (say on a ramdisk) to handle writes...
    Just a thought

  • SCOM monitor on Thin Clients

    Dear all,
    We know that we cannot configure SCOM agent on Thin Clients .  We  would like to know if we can set up a SNMP monitor for Thin Client?
    We are able to discover through ICMP , but not through SNMP. We need to achieve monitor the Thin Clients up and down (Availablity ) only?
    One more question Via ICMP , can we monitor Thin Clients up and down (Availablity )?
    Sengottuvel

    My thought is no, and here's why.
    According to this TechNet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh212935.aspx, it states:
    Windows computers running SNMP are filtered out of discovery results if:
    The device type is “Host” and the vendor is “Microsoft”
    The sysDescription field contains “Microsoft”
    The sysOid starts with .1.3.6.1.4.1.311.1.1.3.1
    The sysOid contains 1.3.6.1.4.1.199.1.1.3.11
    Therefore, I don't think you will be able to use SNMP to monitor the Thin Clients. You could use ICMP (aka PING), and make a simple monitor to PING the system. If there is a response, it is up, otherwise, it is down. But you also have to take network latency
    into question, since that might case packets to drop, etc. which might throw a false-positive.

  • ASO - checksum fail with JDBC thin client on Windows

    I'm trying to configure Oracle Advanced Security for SQL Developer. I'm using SQL Developer 1.5.1 (downloaded with the included JDK). When configuring the connection I select Connection Type: Advanced. My JDBC URL is:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=hostname.com)(port=1234))(connect_data=(service_name=DVLP)(SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_CLIENT=REQUESTED)(SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_TYPES_CLIENT=AES256)(SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_CLIENT=REQUESTED)(SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_TYPES_CLIENT=MD5)))
    This works great in Linux. But on a fully patched Windows XP machine when I try to connect I get "Io exception: Checksum fail Vendor code 17002"
    Note that this is only a problem with the thin client. If I use the OCI client (jdbc:oracle:oci:@....) it works fine.
    Also note that the db to which I'm trying to connect is a 10g database with these sqlnet.ora parameters:
    #ASO Encryption
    sqlnet.encryption_server=required
    sqlnet.encryption_client=required
    sqlnet.encryption_types_server=(AES256,3DES168,3DES112)
    sqlnet.encryption_types_client=(AES256,3DES168,3DES112)
    #ASO Checksum
    sqlnet.crypto_checksum_server=requested
    sqlnet.crypto_checksum_client=requested
    sqlnet.crypto_checksum_types_server = (MD5)
    sqlnet.crypto_checksum_types_client = (MD5)
    SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT_LSNR1251=120
    # Require clients to be Oracle 10g or higher
    SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION = 10
    Has anyone else seen this?
    Thanks for your help!

    As a test I created a simple Java program to connect to the db. I used the same ojdbc5.jar that is shipped with sql developer. My test program ran fine. So it would seem the problem is SQL Developer specific.
    The class:
    import java.sql.*;
    public class testJDBC_ASO {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws SQLException {
    DriverManager.registerDriver (new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver());
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection
    ("jdbc:oracle:thin:@(description=(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=hostname.com)(port=1234))(connect_data=(service_name=DVLP)(SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_CLIENT=REQUESTED)(SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_TYPES_CLIENT=AES256)(SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_CLIENT=REQUESTED)(SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_TYPES_CLIENT=MD5)))",
    "username", "password");
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery("select BANNER from SYS.V_$VERSION");
    while (rset.next())
    System.out.println (rset.getString(1)); /
    stmt.close();
    The output:

  • Connection through jdbc thin client taking more time than from sqlplus!!!

    Hello All
    Machines A and B
    Applicaion in A is connecting to B(9.2.0.6),db server.
    The schema is so small with few tables and data in each table less than 500 rows
    We are in the process of migrating the Application Schema in B to C[9.2.0.8].
    But the response time is more when the application fetches from C.
    Even while selecting the sysdate from dual.
    The application is using the jdbc thin client for fetching the data.
    When the same sql is executed by (from A to C)
    sqlplus -s user/pass @execute.sql, its gets done in a fraction of a second.
    But when the same is done through the application which uses jdbc thin client, it takes few seconds
    to complete.
    When tried with a small java program that uses classes12.jar (from A to C)
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(URL,UID,PASS);
                   stop = System.currentTimeMillis();
                   System.out.println("Connection time in milli sec: " + (stop - start));
                   System.out.println();
    ..It was found that creating the connection was taking time.
    But the same is not happening when tired through the sqlplus
    Could someone throw some light into this?
    What could be the reason for jdbc to get slower while establishing connections?
    TIA,
    JJ

  • JDBC Thin Client for Oracle 8i 8.1.7

    Hi,
    Trying to Driver.getConnection(.....); to an Oracle 8i 8.1.7 DBMS. My client: NT4 and JDK1.3.1 and 100% Java Thin Client "classes12.zip" and "nls(?)_classes12.zip" for JDk 1.2.x
    getConnection(....) is is timing out and exception says "network adapter could not establish connection....". No doubt, the paramters of getConnection(<parameters>) are valid and correct.
    Is it really because the downloaded classes are only for JDK 1.2.x and do not work with jdk1.3.1? In this case I will install jdk 1.2.x again at client host.
    Or is there another thing I have not concerned yet? Note I CAN connect to the host the Oracle 8i DBMS is running on (via BEA Jolt to several Tuxedo services as well as via an HTTP request to an CGI script). So the naming service works. Also te host is alive. A collegue confirmed that the database i want to connect to is also alive and running.
    Any experienced JDBC programmer who can help me?
    Greetings from Germany, hans

    Hi,
    If you get this error, check the follwing things,
    1. make sure you created a listner for your database.
    2. make sure the created your DB listner is up & running as service.
    3. try to connect to database & see that that DB is open for e-transactions (make sure the DB is not in SHUTDOWN mode).
    These checks will solve your problem.
    Good luck,
