HPDV5T-1200CTO notebook, just replaced hinges, now it won't power on

I will go ahead and shoot my question and maybe one of you guys can give me a hand. I have an HP DV5T-1200CTO notebook. The hinges snapped along with the plastic piece that covers the inverter, that snaps in. All the snaps broke off of the screw that hold it in. So after getting a new hinge and makeing a new plastic piece (to order one they wanted $120.00 for a new one, ya right like I was paying that for a small piece of plastic) I very carefully removed the battery, held down the power button for almost a minture to drain all the power from the system, took out the hard drive, ram, and CMOS battery.
I've repaired hundreds of laptops and when working deep into any laptop always take out the cmos and drain the power to prevent any shock to stuff. So after taking out all the screws, popped the plastic pieces edges, gentrly unplugged all the connectors as usual (it had those weird no clamp, you just pull or push ribbon connectors for the power button and 1 other connector had that weird just push or pull zip connector, the rest weire normal flip the latch ribbons connectors. Anyways, after I got the LCD apart, I swapped out the old hinge for the new one and gently put everything back in its place along with my new plastic inverter cover piece. When I was completely done and put the cmos in and everything else was together, I plugged in the HPDV5T-1200CTO and the charger port / plug lit right up. But when I push the power button nothing happens! NOthing! So i took out the battery and tried it a bunch of different ways but nothing happens. The battery light comes on and stays blue for about 30 seconds to a minute and then goes outl.
What in the world could have happened? It's like pressing the power button doens't power it on. The power input ring lights up and stays lit no problem and the charger light comes on and stays on for 30 seconds or a minute then goes off. I know I didn't miss or break anything. Every screw and connection went right back into the same spot it was before the hinge replacement and all I took out were the screws to get to the hinges and carefully using nylon covered tweezers undid the zif connectors to remove the power button board and keyboard. I'm baffled because it powered up and worked fine even with the screen floppping because the hinges were snapped. If anyone has any idea of what it could be, please let me know. This is a really nice notebook with very low hours. I even have a 240GB solid state hard drive for it, so I don't want to junk the notebook. It's from 2010 but I've replaced way harder things on tons of other laptops and they fire up after the repairs. Thsi is the first time I've dealt with those stupid "No clip" ZiF connections on any laptop though. Could the power button be bad? The way it acts, is as if the pwer button is broke. Hopefully someone has some ideas.
Thanks!

Remove the main battery. Leave the AC adapter connected with the machine shut down for five or six hours to recharge the internal backup battery. Then try starting it up on AC power.
If that works, leave the AC connected until you have a new main battery in place and charged up. The backup battery will drain completely in a very short time if you disconnect the AC without a good main battery in place, and you'll be back in the same situation again.
If the machine still won't start after 5-6 hours of recharging the backup battery, reset the PRAM, then try again. If that doesn't work, you'll need to replace the backup battery too.

  • My hard drive failed, has been replaced, and now it won't boot to CD.

My hard drive failed, has been replaced, and now it won't boot to CD to install the OS package. It would boot for a while, get through the first cd of install and would stop randomly in the next install. I found out that the installation disk was cracked so I went out and purchased the Mac Box Set which includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife '09 and iWork '09 under advisement from an associate at the local apple store. Now, I try installing this new OS disk and all I get is the apple logo without a spinning wheel for about 10 minutes and the computer restarts and does it again. I have tried booting from disk, holding c while starting up, and in safemode, holding shift while booting. Please help save my poor poor macbook!!!

These errors look like corrupt or missing files that leopard requires. It sound like you need to start from scratch: format your drive, reload Leopard. I realize that this is probably what you are trying to do.
If you cannot boot from install DVD and cannot successfully get into Safemode or Single usermode (due to a corrupt or incomplete install) then you will need another computer to assist you.
If you can get it into Target Disk Mode and have another Mac you could plug it into that Mac and reformat it.
If it will not go into TDM then you may need to take it out and put it into an external enclosure to plug into another Mac to format it.

  • Replaced LCD and Digitizer, Now it won't power up

I just replaced the LCD and Digitizer on my 1st Gen iphone. Everything went well and I powered the phone up, prior to sealing it back to make sure it was working. I got the message that the battery was completely drained and then the screen went black. I plugged it in to run off of the power cord, and now nothing happens when I power up. I don't want to seal it back up until I get it working. Does the battery need to charge for a while? What could have happened from the time I plugged it in and powering up? Thanks

I sent the phone out to have the battery replaced. They said that replacing the battery did not fix it.
    check out this image: http://www.hennosy.com/iphone.jpg
The part that is red flashes when I start it up. After about 5-10 seconds the screen turns off.
What does this mean? Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Power Mac G4 got moisture in it. Now it won't power on. What could of been damaged?Help!

I recently had my Power Mac G4 in my trunk and for some reason, there was moisture on the outside of the tower. Now it will not power on. There was no moisture on the motherboard but just around the power section. Could I have damaged anything else? Where should I start troubleshooting at? Is the hard drive damaged as well? Help.......

The area that is most vulnerable is also the area you can't easily see: the underside of the logic board where most solder connections are made. It would be easy for water droplets to condense on and around some of the projecting connectors. If a drop carried across two or more connectors and you turn it on....
I'm not too worried about the hard drive; they are usually well sealed against moisture.
It possible that the act of powering up the computer did damage. Normally, when one knows the computer is damp, you wait several days with the computer in a dry place to allow time for all moisture to escape.
I'd let it dry out completely before turning it on again. That might help as long as the first attempt to poweru pdidn;t fry something taht was damp. Once you get it going, see if there is a red light on the logic board. That tells you the power supply is working. As the PS is pretty open to the environment and has high voltage, hopefully if anything did fry, it's the replaceable, rebuildable PS.

  • Swollen battery, now Mac won't power up

My battery is swelling and I had resigned myself to working tethered until I HAD to purchase a new one. Last nite, my infant grandson yanked out the power cord and now I can't power back on. I get the green light on the AC adapter, and had always assumed that I could run the computer just from that source without the battery. Am I wrong or could the sudden disconnect possibly have tripped something that now prevents me from powering back up? Any one experience similar troubles?

You should be able to run the MBP just from the power adaptor. You could have some directory corruption from the abrupt shutdown. See if you can boot from your install disc. If you can, navigate to Disk Utility and repair your boot disk and try again.
Have you removed the swelling battery? You need to--otherwise it can exert pressure inside the machine and potentially cause damage.

  • I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up, I dropped my iphone 4s and now it won't power up

I just dropped my phone onto asphalt from the car, about a 2.5 foot drop. The phone was wearing a case and no damage was done to the phone. the phone was off when I picked it up and will not power up. Any suggestions for how to fix this myself?

Apparently some damage to the iPhone did occur. Using a case doesn't guarantee zero damage when dropped depending on the case.
If the iPhone won't power on the normal way and the same with a reset, make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • Brought my phone to Apple to get my screen replaced and now it won't turn on!! HELP

I brought my phone to Apple yesterday with my friend, and the employee helping me told me that there was a chance that the screen wouldn't be able to get fixed. When I went to go pick it up they told me that the machine had broken my phone and it was completely dead and that I would have to pay the full price for a new phone. They could tell I was getting upset (because now I have no phone) and he told me that the guy I gave my phone to told me that this might happen but HE DID NOT, my friend as a witness.  Now I just have a phone that they broke completely (when it worked perfectly fine before, it just had a broken screen) and they refused to help me any further. Is there anything I can do to get my phone to work again? I don't understand why Apple wouldn't have to replace it when they broke it and they DID NOT tell me that there was a possibility that this could happen, I feel like they just said that afterwards so they wouldn't be responsible. PLEASE HELP.

  • I just updated iPhoto, now iTunes won't sync my photos with my iPhone.

Earlier today I was able to sync photos just fine.
Then I updated iPhoto via the Mac App Store.
I connected my iPhone and got this error message from iTunes:
iTunes could not locate a supported photo application. Would you like to change your photo syncing options?
After I updated iPhoto and opened it, I had to upgrade my library. Could this be the problem? What do I do now? Apple Software Update doesn't show a newer version of iTunes available.
    iTunes 10.6.3, iPhoto 9.3, OS X 10.7.4

That can sometimes indicate a photo cache issue. If you remove the current ipod photo cache, does that get you past the error?
For instructions on where to find it, see the following document:

  • Just installed Acrobat, now Firefox won't open PDFs

    Hi,
I just installed Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard on my computer (running Windows 7).  Now, if I click a link to a PDF in Firefox, it doesn't open.  A new tab opens, as before, but then I get an error message telling me to close my pdf reader and my browser.  I've tried this, it doesn't work.  I've tried restarting my computer, it doesn't work.  I've tried going into Task Manager and killing any task related to Mozilla or Firefox, then reopening Firefox and trying again, no luck.  I'm getting to my wit's end.
    What does work:
I can still save pdf files and open them with reader
I can still open pdfs using Internet Explorer
At some point during the process, it asked me if I wanted Acrobat 8 or Acrobat Reader 9 to open PDFs by default.  I don't know how to reaccess this option to see if changing it would help.  I'll gladly provide any more information neccessary.
    Thanks,
    Jackson C.

Just to add the specifics of the error message:
    Title: "Acrobat plug-in."
    Text:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."

  • My mom just replace a iPod touch because the power button broke so she took it to the apple store and they replaced it when she got it it didn't work well so she called the apple store and they didn't do anything

My mom just got a iPod touch and it won't work well

She should go back to the Apple Store and set up a genius Bar appointment and have the iPod replaced.

  • Just downloaded mavericks, now iPhoto won't load because of an error message that says "You can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac" . I have a 17" MacBook Pro, mid 2010 model running 2.53 GHz and Intel Core I5,

I just downloaded the new Mavericks operating sytem on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro, 17" 2.53GHz, Intel Core I5 machine. My IPhoto is no longer working at all, I'm getting an error message that says - "You Can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac". I also loaded Mavericks onto my other MacBook Pro 17", mid 2009 model and everything works fine. I would think that the newer Mac would easily work with IPhoto. Also, when I try to download from the App Store, it asks for my Apple ID and Password, I enter it, and then the little spinning color wheel just spins forever, with nothing ever happening. I tried downloading the IPhoto Upgrade but it never actually downloads, HELP!!!

What version of iPhoto do you have installed?  Is if one of the versions shown as not compatible in this screenshot?
If it is then go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5.  It will be free if you have an iPhoto 9 or later verson currently.

  • I recently had my hard drive replaced and now iTunes won't allow me sync my iPhone without deleting all the media contents and replacing it with the existing library. Is there another way without erasing everything?

I have already backed up my iPhone, yet it still will not allow me to move the contents of my phone onto my computer. Rather, it wants to delete everything off of my phone and replace it with the contents on my iTunes. Is there a way I can integrate both my iTunes and iPhone? There used to be autofill on iTunes, but I can no longer find it.

  • Update just installed and now iPhoto won't open.

The Software Update message appeared ... so I updated.  After that a message appeared that my iPhoto library would need to be updated in order to open.  Sfar ... Fine! ... This is as per usual.  It went through Upgrading Steps to 9 of 9.
But now ... iPhoto will not open.
I had the latest version of iPhoto available.  My Mac runs on Version 10.7.4
    What is going on???

I had the latest version of iPhoto available.  My Mac runs on Version 10.7.4
No you don't. Not if you're running 10.7.4.  The latest version of iPhoto is 9.5.1 and only runs on Mavericks, 10.9.5.
So give us the exact version you're using.  Go to the iPhoto menu and select About iPhoto to get the version.

  • I am getting an error that says "failed attempts to get anything from cdr server" on a website. It just started and now it won't launch the information. How do I correct this?

This is occurring on the website Virgin Mobile. I was asked to perform some upgrades on my computer and now I am unable to get the content of my call history to display on a screen within this website. The 2nd window will display quickly and then shrink down before showing the call history content.
The error message then pops up saying "failed two attempts to get anything from cdr server"

Are you using the original gray-faced OS X DVDs that came with the system (if so, what OS X level does it say on the disk) or a retail copy of OS X 10.6 or another gray-faced OS X disk from another system? You can't use a gray-faced OS X disk from, for example, an iMac or MacBook Pro, to install on your MacBook.
Was it originally delivered with an OS X level that is greater than what you're trying to install? You can't install an earlier level than what came with the system.
Did you boot to the DVD, and use Disk Utility to create one disk partition, then reboot and try to install?
