Hpqgpc01.exe Application Error dialog on shutdown

When I shutdown, I get an error dialog saying that hpqgpc01.exe Application Error occurred at a particular address.
When I dismiss the dialog, shutdown completes.
What can I do to fix this?
This question was solved.

Tom R. posted this which worked for me:
For 64 bit systems. But you are probably running a 32 bit file system. So lets try this. Load your printer disc in your CD drive, then go to : START, CONTROL PANEL, PRINTER. Then right click on printer and go to properties. Go to SHARING. Click on CHANGE SHARING OPTIONS. Click CONTINUE. Go down to DRIVERS and click on ADDITIONAL DRIVERS.  X64 is the 64 bit driver, but remember that you probably have the files loaded in your X86 file which is 32 bit . Leave the X64 file alone, but click the X86 file. Then close out the program. When you go back, the file should show both the X64 & X86 file as Type 3 User Mode INSTALLED-YES. When you power down the computer you will still see the hpqgpc01.exe file pop up because you will need to restart the computer for the change to take effect. But after that, you shouldn't see the error sign on your next shut down. Hope that helps. Let me know if it works for you.

  • Windows 8.1 - "explorer.exe - Application Error" during shutdown process

    Hi,
    After I upgrade to Window 8.1, i get "explorer.exe - Application Error" dialog every shutdown.
    It contain: "The instruction at 0x74fd40b9 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.
    Click OK to terminate the program
    Click on CANCEL to debug the program."
    (Sorry, my account can't post link or image. So i can't show you the picture capture)
    When I had used Window 8, it didn't happen.
    Please help me to solve this problem.
    My machine is: HP ENVY DV6 7214nr.
    Thanks,
    Tan Nguyen

    I am having the issue when shutting down windows 8.1.  Did not occur before the update with Windows 8.  At shut down, Pop up displays for only a few seconds.  HP Envy I7.
    Explorer.exe - Application Error
    The instruction at 0xa73640b9 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.
    Click on OK to termintate the program.
    When I start the PC, and shut it down after a few minutes of running, this error does not occur.  Only after the PC has been on for awhile and I have used several programs.
    And for those of us unfamiliar with creating a Reg entry, the instruction are not very clear.  Once I create this text file...what do I call it and where and how do I insert it....?
    UPDATE Problem fixed:  I followed the suggestions of a Windows 8 clean boot from Microsoft.
    After going through the running applications one by one, I finally isolated the problem on my HP Envy to the Bluetooth Application.  I disabled the Bluetooth task in Startup and made sure it did not load. Afterward, no more Explorer.exe - Application
    Error when I shut down the PC.  This program is a Ralink Bluetooth driver and exe. program running on startup.  I am not sure if HP has offered an updated driver for it as of yet.....

  • Explorer.exe Application Error

    Hi.
    (Sorry if this is in the wrong category.)
    Just today, I downloaded a Windows update(it said I had like 150+ things to install, so I did) Well, that's where my problem began. Once I did that, I turned my laptop on and right after I type my password in and click enter, I had an "explorer.exe"
    error pop up saying that the memory could not be read. The WHOLE screen is black, only my cursor was there. I couldn't see my desktop, taskbar, nothing. I could do CTRL+ALT+DEL to get into the task manager though.
    I have read literally EVERYTHING I could find on the internet, and nothing has solved my problem. It's quite tricky because most of what I have read has told me to boot in safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode with command prompt, all to no
    avail. When I try, the same error pops up there too.
    I started up my computer and did F8 to get to the system repair, which also did not work. It said there was nothing wrong with it.
    I tried multiple system restore points, all which did not work. I got an error for all of them saying this:
    System Restore failed to extract the original copy of the directory from the restore point.
    Source: %SystemRoot%\Registration
    Destination: ComPlusStaging
    I have tried to do the SFC /SCANNOW which said that there was nothing wrong with my computer.
    I'm completely out of ideas on how to fix this and I would really appreciate the help.
    Thanks in advance!

    After I clean install of Window 8.1, i get "explorer.exe - Application Error" dialog every shutdown.
    Hi,
    Did you mean that this problem occures as soon as Windows clean installed? If so, it may be Windows installation ISO or RAM problem. Since you said Windows 8 works normally, it should be Windows 8.1 ISO problem.
    However, if this problem occures after you install some applications, it should APP problem, not system.

  • JFileChooser causes "java.exe - Application Error"

    Hi,
    When I'm closing an JFileChooser dialog (by e.g. pressing ok or cancel) a second or so later my JVM terminates with the error message "java.exe - Application Error. The instruction at "0*6d0ea46e" referenced a memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to treminate the program".
    I turned on verbose output from the JVM and the last printout was:
    [Loaded javax.swing.Autoscroller from C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\jre\lib\rt.jar]
    [Dynamic-linking native method sun.awt.windows.WComponentPeer.removeNativeDropTarget ... JNI]
    result 1
    [Dynamic-linking native method sun.awt.windows.WFramePeer.getState ... JNI]
    [Loaded java.awt.EventDispatchThread$StopDispatchEvent from C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\jre\lib\rt.jar]
    [Dynamic-linking native method sun.awt.windows.WToolkit.shutdown ... JNI]
    No exception is shown.
    I have uninstall all old JVMs and reinstalled JDK 5.0. This does not help.
    This simple program causes the termination of the JVM:
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println("0");
    JFileChooser fileChooser = new JFileChooser();
    System.out.println("1");
    int result = -2;
    try {
    result = fileChooser.showOpenDialog(null);
    } catch (HeadlessException e1) {
    e1.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println("result " + result);
    try {
    Thread.sleep(5000);
    } catch (InterruptedException e) {
    // TODO Auto-generated catch block
    e.printStackTrace();
    System.out.println("2");
    I receive the printout "result" but not "2".
    I appriciate any help!
    BR
    /Marcus

    No, this is very bad. Any time you see a message like this mentioning a memory address, it means that java, not you, has crashed. There's no way for you to fix this. The only thing you can try is to work around it.
    My suggestions:
    1. Report it to Sun. Make sure you include your system info (processor, memory, computer manufacturer) and what version of java you're using
    2. Try downloading and installing a different version of java

    Hi Tim,
    Uninstalling
    KB3045999 works as a workaround like Wastashi said. We too have this problem.
    @Karen Hu: Startup repair didn't find anything here and this is probably because the system boots properly but only after a user logs in the "Error: userinit.exe - Application Error : The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000018)"
    appears. Safe mode works however and after I disabled all the startup items and rebooted I could successfully logon once, but this could be coincidence because sometimes after a reboot you can login as pointed out by Tim NL. However a few seconds
    after I successfully logged in and saw the desktop, the pc rebooted spontaneously. Any idea what this could be causing? Virus scanner maybe?

    Actually im having the same issue...  (different number 0x[etc] thing, though).

  • "Apache.exe - Application Error" while shutting down Apache

    Hi All,
    Though this is not a show stopper bug, I am not sure whether this may result any error situation or not.
    System: Windows XP SP3
    Application: Oracle Apps 11.5.10.2 (RUP6) single node Vision instance.
    Directories:
    D:\orclapps\orclappsappl
    D:\orclapps\orclappscomn

    D:\orclapps\orclappsora\8.0.6
    D:\orclapps\orclappsora\iAS --> Apache\Apache\Apache.exe
    Issue: When I initiate "Oracle Apache Server ORCLAPPS_erp" service shutdown either in Windows Service window or from command prompt using adstpall.cmd, System is showing below error alert and then service getting stopped(purpose achieved). As such I dont see any problem with that. But I would like to fix it to avoid any problems it might cause for which I may not trace out to its root.
    Error:"Apache.exe - Application Error" The instruction at 0x####### referenced memory at 0x####### . The memory could not be "read".
    From below note I understood such bugs can be avoided by upgrading Apache version 2.0.43. Right now the one came along with vision instance is vesion 1.3 (according to Readme.txt file from Apache\Apache directory.). But I am cue less how to upgrade Apache, whether any Patch exists from Oracle to do this or not. Or, I should not change Apache from apps instance. Even if I can do, how I can do it? Or its nothing to do with Apache version. I am totally confused.

    Hi,
    Does Word start in Safe Mode?
    Press Win key + R, type "winword.exe /safe" in the blank box, press Enter.
    If Word can start in Safe Mode, the issue should be related to 3rd-party add-ins, disable the suspicious add-ins to determine which one caused the problem.
    You can also try repairing Office from Control Panel -> Programs and Features, check if this helps.

  • What does firefox.exe-application error mean? Firefox wont even open it just says this, and then click okay to terminate the problem.

    When I go to open up Firefox, it does not open no matter what I try It just pops up this box that says Firefox.exe - application error.
    Then it says the Instruction at "0x798377a9" referenced memory at "0x798377a9". The memory could not be "written".
    Click on OK to termintate the program

    Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

  • Acrodist.exe application error

    I installed Adobe Acrobat 7.0 successfully. But when I convert a word file into PDF file, a error message pop-up as " AcroDist.exe application error --- the instruction at "0x0048C9e5" referenced memory at "0x0190eb6c", The memory could not be "read" Click on OK to terminate the program "
    If I click the program Acrobat Distiller, the same message box shows up.
    I tried to uninstalled and re-installed. Couldn't solve the problem.
    need help.

    This problem came up on my laptop today and I have found a solution, at least on mine. I was getting the exact same error as above (with different memory locations) when I tried to start Distiller (Acrobat 7.0). It had worked fine for years. On mine it was limited to my specific user account. I could run Distiller fine from the Administrator account. I also created a new standard user account to test with and it ran fine from that one as well. But it wouldn't run from my personal account. So I knew it was something with that specific account.
    To make a long story short, it ended up being a corrupt cache. You can find the cache in the following location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\Distiller 7\
    What I did was just rename the old cache folder and let distiller recreate it. That fixed it. Good luck.
