HPUX to Linux AS 3.0 - Convert Printers

We are working on an Apps 11.0.3 to 11i upgrade and at the same time migrating from HPUX 11.0 to Linux AS 3.0. As part of this we have to move approx 100 printer definitions from HP to Linux. Is there any way this can be done "en masse" by updating configuration files or do they have to be setup one at a time? Any papers available on this?

hi Steven
We are moving from hp-hx to linux i am just intreted in the specks for the hp-ux box and the spec for the linux box's that you are using
also if you do nt care , are you using the aps module .

  • Read linux lastlog file and convert to a String

    Hi
I am trying to read the data from the lastlog file in Linux. I think this is a binary file encoded in ASCII. How would I go about reading this file and converting the binary data into a String and then displaying the data? Each bit of data is separated by a new line to distinguish between the different values.
    Many Thanks
    Sambo

"Binary file encoded in ASCII"? Well, you'd have to find out what encoding was used and then reverse is.
As for reading files in general, check here:

  • Printing issues using acroread on linux vs acroread on hpux

We have an installation on HPUX 11i of Oracle financial apps.
The application generates a PDF doc which has to be printed .
on HPUX we then use acroread to convert the PDF to postscript, and send it out the hp lp utility to a windows print server, then to a Lexmark T632 printer. This process essentially works correctly.
The same application has been ported to linux, and generates a virtually identical pdf file on linux. Using the same version of acroread on linux we generate postscript output and send through cups using the same process.
On the linux run, this results in the top line of the page being truncated and the offset of the page being wrong (it shifts left relative to the hpux case)
Since these are cheques this is a critical error. Using acroread with the shrink option on linux results in the MICR font on the cheque failing tests.
I've retrieved a ppd file from Lexmark for the t632, and the behaviour continues.
Further diagnosis included comparing the output postscript files from hpux and linux, and I noted that the postscript file generated on hpux refers to a pdfasc.prc where the postscript file generated on linux does not have this data in it.
Falling back to cups pdf2ps also results in truncating the top line (cheque number) and the left shift, both with and without the lexmark ppd.
Acrobat reader version is 5.10 and 5.11 on hpux.
Can anyone comment on where this pdfasc.prc data are coming from and how can I get it in the linux world?
*footnote* we have noted that the original document format tool may not be entirely correct as it appears we have no margin definitions in the template. This issue will be fixed but this is now a production system and this set of changes will take time.

Originally installed on the linux boxes was acrobat 7
This version resulted in some truly wild print results.
I am going to retry since the tests under acrobat 7 were conducted by
    different staff.
My question stands. Where does the reference to pdfsasc.prc come from on hpux?
If I take the postscript output generated on the hpux box and push it through cups on the linux box I get expected results.

  • Upgrade EBS 11i(10.2.0.5) on HPUX to EBS R12(11.2.0.3) on linux

We have EBS 11.5.10.2 on HPUX with 10.2.0.5 database. We want to migrate and upgrade it to EBS 12.1.3 with 11.2.0.3 database.
    We also have 10.1.4.3 SSO.
    Our approach is:
    First Phase:
    1) From source(HPUX) take export(expdp) backup of 10g database.
    2) Install 11.2.0.3 database on Target ie,on Linux server.
    3) Import database on target 11g database.
    4) Link 11g(Linux) database with 11i(HPUX) application
    5) Re-Integrate SSO with 11g database.
    Second Phase:
    1)Pre upgrade steps on 11g database(linux)
2)Install file system of EBS 12.1.1 on linux with upgrade.
    3) Upgarde steps
    4) Post upgarde steps.
    Is it feasible? Please suggest.

    1) Is expdp/impdp is better than transaportable tablespace?I have been using export/import for long time and never had issues with it. The transportable tablespace is a new concept and it became certified with 11i/R12 not long time ago.
    2) We also want to change the characterset on target database from US7ASCII to UTF8/ AL32UTF8/ AL16UTF16 to support multiple languages. We are planning to manually change the script created by expdp utility as per the doc 557738.1.So,is it work in our case or should we follow some other steps to change the characterset? It should be OK. However, I would suggest you log a SR and confirm the same with Oracle support -- Changing the NLS_CHARACTERSET to AL32UTF8 / UTF8 (Unicode) [ID 260192.1]
    3) What should be the characterset to support multiple languages.Which one is best in UTF8/ AL32UTF8/ AL16UTF16?AL32UTF8

    4) As in my first phase i will deregister the 10g SSO from 10gdatabase and register it with 11g database? So,should it work.If yes, then how to de-register and register the SSO?

  • HTML to PDF conversion - Linux

    Hi,
We are doing a proof of concept of PDF generator on a Linux environment (RHEL6) .This POC involves conversion of HTML into PDF.
As per the installation documentation, PDF Generator requires Adobe Acrobat XI pro.
Can we use trail version of Acrobat? If yes, Link to download acrobat XI for linux?
    Thanks

For converting HTML to PDF on linux, you need to install Open Office.
I believe you are using LC ES4, so please refer below documentation for checking compatible versions:

  • Can't convert song files

    Hi,
My Windows crashed and I'm currently running on Linux, which doesn't support iTunes and won't play the songs I previously downloaded from iTunes. I've tried every sound converter accepted by Linux and none can convert the songs from the m4p to mp3 files. They keep creating new files called mp3 that are actually empty. I've looked at every Linux forum board, asked iTunes support repeatedly and I'm getting nowhere.
    Can anyone offer any advice?

    I have another potential solution:
    Songbird
It's essentially a Media Play built on the Mozilla[Firefox] engine, which means it can run on Windows/Linux/Mac. It supports the iPod and AAC files as well as Windows Fairplay DRM and pretty much any media file you want to throw at it. Since its built off Firefox you can get add ons for it [called feathers], to get even more functionality out of it. Plus it's simple and pretty, like iTunes. And its free.
Only problem: the official release is still in Beta [0.7], but they do have a 1.0 Release Candidate 2 release as well, and they are progressing through releases VERY quickly, and they have pretty good support unlike iTunes sometimes idiot staff.
To check out the 0.7 Beta Release:
    http://getsongbird.com/
    For 1.0 Release Candidate 2:
    http://blog.songbirdnest.com/2008/11/14/songbird-10-release-candidate-2-is-avail able-for-testing/
No, I don't work for them. I am getting feed up with iTunes lately either losing my library partially or fully, and the update to 8.0.1.11 corrupting the iTunes.xml file, and again, losing half my library. Re-importing and rating ALL of my songs (23,167 [148.27 GB]) *****. Hard.
Check it out. It looks almost dead on iTunes, and they have some pretty good add-ons. I'm upping from 0.7 to RC1 after I post this. Let me know how it works for you, because I haven't used it on Linux. Plus, I might be able to help with some other solution if this doesn't do the trick.
Remember though, if you have problems, try to report it to the staff, because they need that info to fix it. They have a feedback section for problems.

  • Behaviour of Printers parameters tool

    Hy,
I have some Mac computers in a network with a Linux CUPS server, where many printers are configured. I have observed 2 different behaviour depending on the Mac OS version, when I tried to configure cups to access the server.
On both, I have added a "BrowsePoll" line in the cupsd.conf file.
With a 10.5 client, In System preferences / Printers, I need to clic on "+", then find the printers, and select those I want.
With a 10.6 client, In System preferences / Printers, all printers are automatically added, even if I don't want them.
Is there a way to change this behaviour ?
    Thx.

A few things that may help:
    1. Use the latest version of MWO.  Version 10.08 is available for download from
           https://awrcorp.com/download/default.aspx
    2. Before importing the DXF file, select Options > Layout Options..., and in the Layout tab, set "Database unit size" to 0.001um.  Do not start with this project, the shapes in the EM structure appear to have been distorted by the course resolution (i.e. large database unit size) already.
3.Make sure the 45deg bend in your feed lines is well resolved.  In the version you attached, there is a notch in the bend: one of the two connecting rectangles needs to be extended so the corners overlap.
    4. After you create the EM structure, and add the layout and ports, right-click on the EM structure in the project browser > Options... In the Mesh tab, click the "Reset Defaults" button, and then uncheck the box for "Model as Zero Thickness".  Just in case, click the AXIEM tab, and click the "Reset Defaults" button there, too.  (You do not need to reset defaults if working with a new project.)
    5. Check the mesh and make sure all is well before running the simulation.
If you have any trouble (or still do not see the expected dip in the response) attach the updated project and describe the problem.

  • E90 sync(and more) with linux

    Hi,
I've seen some threads about syncing with linux, but thought I'd mention my need of a good solution of not only syncing the E90 with linux, but also have access to advanced features like Nokia maps. I'd hate to have a very capable phone, but miss features because only windows PCs are supported.
As I'm not ready to pay 800€ for a phone I can't fully exploit, I'm looking for people with experience with the E90 and linux, eg: can it be synced and backed up easily? can I transfer maps to the phone from a linux pc? Is the phone usable as a USB mass storage for file transfers?
Maybe Nokia should learn from HP, who makes linux drivers for all their printers.... In that case I wouldn't hesitate to buy the E90.
    Thanks in advance
    Raph

I submitted something like that recently: To my surprise, at a "general" discussion group, I found out that most people used Linux there!
But large companies favor large companies, and do not change their ways easily. It will probably take another two years before Nokia realizes that it's producing products (like PC Sync) that most of its users cannot use.

  • Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ?

    Hi Friends,
Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
(or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here  - Transporting Data Across Platforms
(or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
    Regards,
    DB

    HI
his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
    1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
    2. Start the database in read only mode
    3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
    4. Check if there are any external objects
    5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
    6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
    7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
    8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
    9. Execute the Transport Script
    10.Change the Database ID
    11.Check database integrity
    Thank you

  • ASM- Cloning across platforms

    Hi
We are on 10.2.0.4 and we use ASM to manage storage
Now we usually clone HPUX->Hp UX by copying disk groups to destination disk groups, change ASM Parameter to scan new diskgroups and bring up the database on target.
Now we have to clone a big database on to Linux.
If i follow the same process i.e just copy disks and try to bring up on linux , will it work ?
Is ASM independent of underlying opearting system ?
    Thanks

It's not about ASM, no matter what filesystem you're using you must transport (convert) an entire database or tablespace set to a different platform.
It's the same when you copy the datafiles from normal filesystem of HPUX to Linux... the datafile will be copied without problem, but you will not be able to use because the Oracle Dictionary/Binaries is not designed for that platform.
You must execute Cross-Platform Data Transportation always when you change platform.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmxplat.htm
If you want understand why, I suggest you search in the google about Endianness.
Oracle data files with same or different endian format of different platform need be converted.
If I'm not wrong, HPUX is big endian and Linux is Litte Endian.
i.e You must use transportable tablespace, because transportable database is supported only to same endian format, because TABLESPACE SYSTEM cannot be converted using different endian format.
    See this example:

  • Serial printer won't just print when i 'dd' to it ?

In an office i help to set up there is a windows box connected to a genicom 6218 printer thru serial EIA232 port.
There is also an older genicom LA36N dot matrix printer laying around.
The windows box has a legacy application that communicates directly with the printer bypassing all the windows printing system
All connections are made with 3 wire null modem cables - tx rx earth. no advanced control signals
YAY SIMPLE TEXT PRINTERS. LETS PLAY WITH 'EM. So i brought in my linux box
When the LA36N is hooked up to the linux box ttyS0 then dd'ing or cat'ing a text file to /dev/tyS0 prints it okay. as expected.
When doing the same with the 6218 it prints half line of some random gibberish (not the text file contents) and stops. if switched to 'offline' then back to 'online' it prints some more and stops. and 2 - 3 times more like that (untill the buffer in the printer is empty ?). the same happens with 'echo "HI" |cat >/dev/ttyS0' too (the amount of gibberish is still few lines long)
I made a 'null modem Y - splitter' cable (where 2 ports are parallel for the receiving devices and in 1 the tx and rx are crossed for the transmitting device) and connected together
Windows box ====x==== linux box = printer
Then printed a document from the application while dd'ing from ttyS0 to a text file on the linux box.
With both printers the resulting text file is identical when printing the same document. Both printers successfully printed the document
Now i connect the printer just to the linux box without the Y cable and dd the file back to the printer.
Again - the 6218 prints gibberish in pauses and the LA36N prints ok
So the question is : Isn't the data being dd'ed to the printer the exact same as when the windows box printed ? Why does the 6218 treat it differently ? 'How does it know' ?
Maybe it something to do with signals sent back to the computer ? well it's not
I connected the Y cable like this
Windows box = linux box ====x==== printer
Then printed a document & dd'ed again with both printers.
In both cases the resulting file is empty - ie there is nothing sent back from the printer to the host

I am not following everything you did, but your problem may be:
Data size (7 vs 8 bit)
Stop length (1 or 2 bit periods)
    Parity (even, odd, mark, space)
If the 6218 is finicky about parity it might trip over whatever parity is being sent by the linux box while being compatible with the windows box.  The LA36 may not care about parity.
I am puzzled by the several lines of gibberish in response to "HI" being sent.   Normally I would a Baud mismatch at that point, but both machines work with (I assume) the same settings on the Windows box.
You may want to try different parity settings on the linux box and see what happens.
<pedantic mode>You refer to the reference signal on the cable as "Earth".  In reality, it is a reference signal that may or may not find its way to "Earth" or "Ground".  It should always be kept isolated from the chassis to minimize ground (earth) loops in order to maximize your signal integrity.  In your description of your cross over cable, you did not explicitly state that you included a signal ground.  If you did only swap pins 2 and 3, then you are depending on chassis grounds between 2 or 3 boxes.  This is a bad idea.  Ensure you tie all signal grounds on your cables (pin 7 on a DB-25 or pin 1 on DB-9)</pedantic mode>

New arch linux user here, recent convert from gentoo Loving it so far, spectacular operating system. Not building everything from source is a beautiful thing
However, it seems that GL doesn't like me... After I had Xorg in a state where everything seemed to be working, I decided to give glxgears a run, and boom: "Segmentation Fault." So, I tried to install a game which used GL, picked torcs, tried running it... "Segmentation fault."

    to the system.
Do you want to create a LUN? [y]: y
    Multiprotocol type of LUN

A LUN path must be absolute. A LUN can only reside in a volume or
qtree root. For example, to create a LUN with name "lun0" in the
qtree root /vol/vol1/q0, specify the path as "/vol/vol1/q0/lun0".
    Enter LUN path: /vol/edsrvss_01_iscsi/lun0
A LUN can be created with or without space reservations being enabled.

  • Oracle proc Pro*C, g++/c++ compile error due to static const unsigned int sqlctx

    I'm using Oracle 8.1.6 for Linux, and 7.3.4 on HP-UX. Compiler is gcc/g++ 2.95.2
In working with the Oracle precompiler on both HPUX and Linux, I've found a problem with the way that the Linux precompiler generates the sqlctx variable.
On linux, the following is generated when you run the precompiler:
    static const unsigned int sqlctx = 1;
However, on HPUX, this is the corresponding code:
    static unsigned long sqlctx = 10673468;
When you compile the Linux version with g++/c++ or aCC, you get fatal errors of this nature:
    SQLSubsystem.cpp:562: passing `const unsigned int *' as argument 2 of `sqlcxt(void **, unsigned int *, sqlexd *, const sqlcxp *)' discards qualifiers
Is there a way to force the output of proc to leave off the const?
If you view the binary file proc, you can find the static unsigned int string listed. So I think it may be an option. However, I can't seem to turn it on.
    Thanks-
    Matt Wright

    As for sqlctx:
sqlctx is a module identifier variable. i.e. if your project consists of multiple modules, each sqlctx should have different value.
I have seen this error only on Linux Pro*C starting of 8.1.5 version (have not tested 8.0.5 nor 8.1.6).
Anyway, I really can not understand why this error is not patched already.
    As for constness:
I can not tell if there is an option which would solve such issue. I can only advise not to use -Werror option of gcc. It generates about 4-5 warnings per module, but it works ;-))

  • Price Band on a pre-calculated average : Don't go down the rabbit hole.

One of the issues with DAX is that you get really ambiguous error messages that essentially give you little clue as to what is the problem.  You can go off in one direction only to realize the problem is in the other direction.
Using DAX Studio http://daxstudio.codeplex.com you an alleviate some of this pain.
I needed to assign a sales band to a fact table but rather than base it on a row value, it needed to be based on a simple
    expression i.e. Average Sales :
    CALCULATE(average([Sales]),filter(Table1,[Customer]=EARLIER([Customer])))
With an unrelated band table this expression can be dropped right into the basic banding pattern from Marco & Alberto's
    DAX Pattern site
    =
    CALCULATE (
    VALUES ( Bands[Label] ),
    FILTER (
    Bands,
    CALCULATE (
    AVERAGE ( [Sales] ),

Ed - could it be that these Oracle Homes were cloned (using OUI) from the same source ? That would explain the directory names (which is the structure on the source) and the matching time stamps across multiple homes.

SriniIt was confirmed that the migration was done some time AFTER those opatch entries - nearly a year later. I'm still trying to get information on how the migration from hpux to linux was accomplished (my predecessor is still employed here, but in another dept and he keeps odd hours and is pretty vague when I question him about anything). The various instance alert logs go back to pre-migration, so it looks like a lot was preserved/copied over.
In any event, I think I can ignore those patches and just focus on what was done post-migration.
    Thanks for the clue.
