Hrd Drive Full- Archive iTunes Videos to DVD?

My daughter has filled up her laptop's hard drive. The big culprits are movies and TV shows purchased from iTunes. Is there a way that these files can be taken off her hard drive and archived to a DVD? She's not watching the files now and is OK if they come off her iPod, but doesn't want to erase something she paid for in case she might want them at some later date.
Is this possible? If so can someone point me to directions on how to archive these to DVD and how to restore to the hard drive at a later date?
Thanks!

Hi L Powow- thanks for responding to my question. That's not quite what I had in mind. I don't want to back up the entire library, I only want to back up select iTunes video purchases for archival purposes.
I would like to remove the iTunes video purchases from the iTunes library on the computer's hard drive, because they take up too much space and they are not being currently used on the iPod.
I want to know how I can back-up only purchased videos to DVD, so that if I remove them from the library on the PC's hard drive and if, at a future date, there is a requirement to load the videos back onto to the iTunes library, I will be able to restore the videos from a DVD to the iTunes library on the PC hard drive.
Any suggestions on a backup and restore procedure to do this? Thanks.

  • Recording Itunes videos to DVD

My husband and I just downloaded a TV show from Itunes in the hopes of copying it to DVD for our use. However, the burn command on Itunes is grey when I want to do this.
How can we do this? Thanks for your support!

Not getting what I'm saying one bit...
    Alright... scenario:
Home Based DVD Recorder: No control, pop it in, copy.
PC Based DVD Recorder: You have control over the lead in/lead out, data on the tracks, burn speed, etc.
Now, just because the Mac can READ those media types, doesn't mean it was burned correctly for it to read it. Now, also keep in mind, that it may not be the media, but the drive using it, some drives have a hard time reading certain CDs... like my DVD Recorder in my computer, it doesn't like normal CDs at all, won't install from them hardly, DVDs, run fine, perfect. It even burns CD-R, CD-RW, etc. And it READS the ones it burns, it doesn't read any other burn for some reason, some drives are just PICKY.

  • ITunes videos to DVD to Mac

I purchased videos (or TV show episodes) from iTunes on my work computer (which is a PC), and burned the files to a DVD and when I tried to import them to my Powerbook at home, the videos were blank... they showed the correct time of the clip but it was a black screen.

I have another question string that outdates this question.

  • Burning iTunes videos to DVD-R?

Is this possible? I bought two seasons of a show without enough memory on my PC, so I want to transfer one of the seasons to DVD-R until I get an external hardrive. Any help or other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Did you purchase this from iTunes? If so, you can only burn the video to a disk for back up purposes. You can't burn it to one that can be read by a standard DVD player. If you have a 4 gig nano, you should be able to put the video on it. You may just have to move some other things off for a while.

  • Burning itunes videos to DVD

First off - new to mac, new to forum, primarily use itunes for music. Having said all of that...is it possible to download a video from itunes (or a TV show) and burn a DVD? I was looking into it and can't seem to find any info. Tried it w/itunes and can't get it to "Burn disc". Help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm assuming you want to burn a purchased video to a DVD disc that is watchable in your DVD player. The short answer to this question is, no, it cannot be done.
The DRM that protects the video files you buy from iTMS do not allow this type of burning. You can, however, burn the files to Data disc for backup.

  • Itunes videos to dvd

If I download a movie from the itunes store can I burn it to a dvd to play in a dvd player? If so how? Thanks

  • Burning downloaded itunes videos to DVD - How do I do this?

I have downloaded over $50 worth of video film clips so I could make my own dvd. I assume that paying $3.69 for them entitles you to burn them to dvd as we do songs to cd @ $1.30/song. I have tried burning to a dvd with no luck. How do I do this?

Unfortunately that doesn't work. It's part of the deal between the iTMS and the right holders that prevents purchased videos from burning to DVD (except from burning to Data CD/DVD for backup).
The Music Store Terms of Service state (chapter 9):
"You shall be entitled to export, burn (if applicable) or copy Products solely for personal, noncommercial use. You shall not be entitled to burn Video Products."
I must admit, I hardly read those 'fine print' articles, but it's all written down.

  • LTO Drive to archive video files - how to hook up to MacPro?

I want to buy a Quantum LTO drive to archive FC video files that I have on my XRaid. It seems you need a SCSI card, but these don't seem to be available for the MacPro (Intel). I know there is a SCSI to Firewire adaptor you can buy, but it creates a bottleneck and slows it all down. I need to back-up 160-200Gs at a time at a good speed. Any ideas? Thanks.

http://attotech.com/scsihostadaptertechnology.html is where to start... they make cards for PCIe slots.. they are the best in the business in fact.
I'd think you only need a single channel card. UL5D's I'm pretty sure would work.

  • Burning videos to DVDs

Does anyone know what the playback quality of burning iTunes videos to dvds is like?
      Windows XP

Yeah. It’s zero quality because it is not possible.
You can save them as a data file but not as a video to view on a DVD player.

  • Missing CD/DVD drive after installing iTunes w/ Windows Vista

I have a Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 laptop. The problem I am having is when I install iTunes my CD/DVD drive disappears. The drive is listed in the device mananger but it is corrupt ( yellow triangle). I can restore the drive by going back to system restore before iTunes was installed. It was sugested by Toshiba that I wait for the Windows Vista/ iPod fix. It has been sometime and there has been no word of a fix. I just bought my laptop in march and my iPod last month and I can not use it unless I load all of music one time and do a systems restore and loose it. It has become very fustrating as all the hot fixes do not apply to Vista but XP. I really need some support from someone. Microsoft charges 95 bucks a hour ( I think) and Toshiba says it is a Apple/Windows problem.

  • Problems playing itunes videos continuosly in Full Screen

    Hi guys,
I have a small problem. I started to buy Videos in itunes music store and building my own MTV. So far, so good. My problem started when I started to buy some DVDs, converting the videos to MP4 format and then adding them to my itunes library. I have kept the same resolution than the original itunes videos, but I have changed the frame rate to have a little bit more quality.
When I select a video, iTunes plays it in full screen (as it is selected in the preferences). If the second video is another original iTunes, it continues in full screen. But as soon as one of the non iTunes videos starts, it goes to the main window and plays the video in the small section at the bottom-left of the screen (selected as "Now Playing"). Then, the next video goes back to full screen, even if it is a non-itunes one. It is very anoying since I have to put it back in Full screen manually.
Does anybody have the same issue? I am using the last release and patch level of Mac OS and itunes. I think that it might be related with the way that I imported the videos (using Handbrake 7). May be I need to use exactly the same format that Apple uses in itunes. Does anybody knows the exact video format that Apples uses? Do you think that it may be related with issue?
One last point. I have experienced the same problem in two different Macs. One Power PC and one Intel... I have already given up...
Thanks in advance for your help,
    G. Acilu

    I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
I too was experiencing non-full screen playback between music videos / movies. I discovered that this only happened if I had en EQUALIZER setting for the music video / movie. Once I had NONE as the EQUALIZER setting my music videos / movies all played back full screen from one to the next.
Change your settings in the equalizer column as suggested and see if this works for you. It solved my problem, although I do not have my desired equalizer settings in operation!

  • Help! iTunes makes my DVD drive disappear

I installed iTunes version 7.6 and my DVD drive disappeared when I re-
booted my pc. At first I was able to restore to an earlier point and
my DVD drive re-appeared. When I tried to re-install iTunes, again the
DVD drive disappeared and I was unable to restore at all. The only way
I was able to restore my DVD drive was to restore my pc back to
factory settings. I have since tried an earlier version of iTunes (Version 7) with
exactly the same results as version 7.6. I have a 80GB iPod classic and I'm using XP. Can anyone help me install iTunes without losing hardware?

I have exactly the same problem. there are loads of others the same and some have advised to get a really old version of itunes and others have had to down load new drivers. I as of yet have been unable to resolve the issue yet I know others with Vista who can run new itunes with no problems. How frustrating!!! try looking through the archives on this support page for plenty of ideas on how to resolve it.

  • ITunes Videos/Shows to DVD

Does anyone know if you can burn your iTunes shows/videos to DVD?

You can burn the purchased videos and TV shows to a data DVD (change your settings in the Preferences->Advanced->Burning).
You can't burn them to a DVD to be played on a TV.
    Hope that helps,

  • Playing iTunes videos to a personal DVD player

I'd like to play iTunes videos on my DVD player. I copied them on to a USB, then tried to play them on the DVD player. But they show up as "MPEG4" files and a red circle with a line through it appears. Guess that means it's a No Go. Any suggestions? Advice? Help? Thanks.

Well, I wondered...I tried playing the videos off the USB while it was plugged into my computer, and the video file in iTunes opened. Does that make sense to you? Yes, they do play on my iPod, but I hear you telling me I am NOT going to be able to play them on the DVD player. I also tried burning them onto a DVD disc, but that didn't work either.
