Href and applet

Hi,
I would like to find out whether can href be used to link to an applet? My problem is this, I want to run the applect only when I click on a hotlink in the webpage. How can I do that?

Not really, no. The applet can only exist in a web page. The applet can be 1 x 1 pixel, and can be positioned using CSS off the display area of the page, and the applet can open the JFrame. But the applet and the page it's on must still be in the browser, cuz as you see when you leave the page, the JFrame goes away. There is no way around that, and for good reason. If there was, people would be putting applets out there that when you leave the page, these stupid frames would linger, and they would of course be set up to disable the close button so you couldn't close them. It would be a mess.
So, either you have the applet page with a message to people not to go anywhere, or you have a frame set with 1 frame (maybe 1 pixel at the top or bottom) with the applet and have all other navigation in the "main" frame.

The JDeveloper 3.0 design time environment is not supported on Windows98. Some functions might work under Win98 but they are not supported.

Regarding communication between JSF and applet.

Hi all,
I have to send a array of int value from JSF to the applet method and vice versa,
so how can I do that?
Is there any straight forward way is there?
Or I need to use javascript in between applet and JSF for communicating.
If this is case can give some links so that I can go through it.
What I need is, I have jsf table(grid) when I select a row from table, for the selected row I have to display selected row ID in applet and vice versa.
Any suggestion or links will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

i have tried with JavaScript, i got stuck, i need to call a JavaScript method for JSF component event listener. I searched in Google but no help regarding same.
Actually what I need is, I have JSF Component i.e. GridView(Table) and applet in a page. And for each row selection in GridView(table) I need to call a javascript method (with column value), and vice versa.
Can you give suggestion or any link so that can proceed further.
and i am able to communicate between applet which are included in the page

Adf faces table and applet in jsf page navSubmit not working in IE

I have a jsf page with adf faces table and applet , previous / next navigation is not working for my table when i add the applet to the same page , it is working in firefox but not in IE .

I am reading about Zhiqun's Java Card book,
and I wonder about the relationship between a package and an applet.
Am I right in saying:
1. An applet comprises one or several packages
2. A package only belongs to one applet
3. One package is one group context

Case 1
I have package A. Package A contains 2 class (A1 & A2 ) and 2 package (B and C).
Then, I make 2 applet, they are applet-B (for package B) and applet-C (for package C).
When simulationi in JCWDE, applet-B and applet-C have no problem. But, in CREF, applet throw exception and status word is 6443.
Case 2
When I try to include class A1 and A2 into package B and C, so package A is empy. Surprisingly, applet-B and applet-C can run in CREF and JCWDE. I don't know, what's wrong in case 1.
Can you give me explanation or explanation about problem in above...?

JavaFX and Netbeans set homepage href and codebase attribute

Is there a option in netbeans to set the _browser.jnlp attribute "homepage href" and "codebase". so that when I start the Build Project everytime is set right. and i dont have to change it manually ?

Hi. thanks for your advise with the javafxpackager help, I found the option -appCodebase.
with this option everything work fine. (codebase and hompage href url is set)
I have now this option in the netbeans project property as additional fx packager option.

Appletviewer and applets

Hi!
I am using j2sdk 1.4.0 under linux. I have been creating an applet. The screen refresh is tied to a timer. However, the screen refresh gets very slow after 2 - 5 seconds after the applet has been started. If I move mouse in applets window, the refresh gets fast during that time.
The applet code is very simple: timer calls repaint method of the applet and applet's paint method just draws new picture to the screen using drawImage.
Anyone run into same problem? What could be wrong?

1)double buffering
2)if u dont need the re-paint let the java do it for u dont overide it

I adore applets and the package AWT... And I would like to know if some way exists to integrate my applet with my application J2EE... I want to use these in the vision tier in a J2EE(EJB) project...
How can I make that my applet acts as an observing process of my model??? If the JVM will be informed on any alterations in the model will be the JVM of the server while my applet will be being executed for the JVM of browser...

I have a J2EE application, for which I have a module which is used by system administrators. this module is completly written in Java swing.
and it does talk to my EJBs.
If you don't have a firewall in your application, then you can directly make your applications in awt, swing and applets talk to EJBs. if you do have a firewall, then just write a web-service wrapper over your EJBs and other J2EE components and use them from desktop applications.
It seems that you want to implement a kind of a applet based monitor application for your J2EE EJBs on the server. Applets cannot directly monitor your EJBs.
Create a new module which has a service which acts as an event listener on the server. each j2ee component on the server notify it if there is a change to them. this service, can then write the data realted to the modification on a socket which is continiously being read by the applet. So you can implement a kind of a monitor for J2ee apps with applets.

PS:How did you manage to adore the AWT ;-) ? I found that it sucks (good performance.. very poor lnf) ... java swing sucks too (very poor performance ... avaerage lnf).

Xml and applets

I'm trying to use Sax in an applet to read an xml file. My application works fine, but when I convert it to an applet, I get errors.
Does anybody know where I can get info and examples using Xml, Sax, and Applets? Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Probably nothing to do with XML. You use it in an applet precisely as you would use it in an application. You are probably running into one of the usual applet problems. Of course, this is all guesswork without any idea of what errors you are actually having.

Unable to execute and applet

I'm new programmer in java. There are somme applet that run with appletwier
but witch do not run with Internet explorer and Netscape. I'm always getting
this error : 'Class not found'. I want to know all the steps to run and applet
using Netscape or Internet explorer.

I think you can't solve your problem.
The fact is that appletviewer supports the java classes you have installed with the sun's jdk... if you are using jdk 1.3.1, it uses the java libraries included in your installed distribution. IE virtual machine, instead, uses its own library, so you can't use in your applets classes like: swing, graphics2d, and so on...
I know that it's not a great help. Sorry!
However, if someone could tell us how to include these classes in our CABs/JARs... i think we are really happy! :-)

Does anyone know where I can buy web space that will allow me to run a servlet and applet from. I have been shopping today and I had difficutly finding one.

Hmm.... well duffymo. I have gone to a number of sites through Google looking for web hosting sites that support java and I must be picking all the wrong ones to look at because I have only found one in Fremont out of 25-30 that I have looked at.
I guess duffymo you can say what you want in a forum, but usually answering a question with a question isn't very helpful nor appreciated.

Is possible to use href= and onclick=Ajax.request to track outgoing link?

I´m new in Oracle Apex and i'm trying now to track outgoing links on my Apex 3.2.1 application.
When the user clicks on a link of my application that redirects to an outgoing site, I want them to be taken to the site (href) and I also want a background script that register in a oracle table this "click".
For example, i have this link in an APEX page:
When user cliks in this link, i would like to execute in background an oracle procedure, with a parameter. Let´s call this procedure, for example:
SP_REGISTRA_ACESS_LINK(:P19_COD_TOPICO).
This procedure insert a record in a table called BAC_ACESS, storing in it the SYSDATE and the value of ":P19_COD_TOPICO".
Is it possible to link to a new site and call an AJAX request at the same time?
Could some one give me a example of how i can do it? How i can implement it in my Apex 3.2.1 application?
I´m working with Apex 3.2.1 and RDBMS 9i. I can not upgrade none of these releases, cause Apex is installed in a production database that can be upgrade now to 10g/11g.

Very interesting. I didin´t know that this APEX_UTIL exists...
Although that, i developed a customized access control to specific "media itens" of my application, for example:
- Download of documents or programs;
- Play of videos;
- Play of audios;
- Acess of CLOB records of a table, that were displayed as a kind of HTML page;
- Outgoing links;
I do not want to control all the Apex application as, for example, tabs, report pages, charts, forms, etc.
All these media itens are stored on oracle tables, and where displayed in apex reports. Customer clicks on a link of this report and the media is displayed to the user.
I have sucess to control quite all the medias display.
The only one i could not have success to control are these outgoing links. These links were stored in a oracle table and were displayed in a apex interactive report.
I would like to know if i can implement my custom rutine to register these access. I think that i could to it with Ajax scripts.

Self Signing and Applets

I have spent hours reading over the Signed Applets forum and Sun applet security training pages. There seems to be so much confusion in this area that the use and proliferation of Java Applets must be suffering.
As the usual underfunded developer, I am not able to buy a certificate before proving the concept. Therefore, I am relegated to using self signed applets to demonstrate the use of signed applets and the power they have. This would also be the case for students of Java applets, of which I am also one.
I have tried the sample applets in the Sun security training. They in fact write the file to my system, but they also display a security error as well.
The Sun training indicates that I should be using a policy file with the security and that when my applet is run by another user, that user must also manually update their policy file, using keytool, before running the applet. If this is true, I see no use for Java Applets that work outside of the sandbox confines. There must be a better way to use applets that require security.
I have also read Irene's 10 steps and numerous comments about them. They seem to work fine until I get to step 10. If I am using a self signed applet, why should the user of the applet have to click on a HREF to load the certificate into the keystore? Why shouldn't the user be prompted to trust the self signed certificate, just like a certificate obtained from a CA?
I have tried to develop a batch file (Windows NT 4.0) to illustrate the signing process, but I have been unsuccessful. I have listed the output from it below followed by the batch file itself. Would someone please indicate what would make this batch file work? If possible, I would like it to work for both IE 5.5 and Netscape 4.06; especially ie 5.5.

I believe I finally found my problem. If I use JRun as a web server and put the applet on the default server within JRun, I am only able to run the applet from a different client. It doesn't seem to load right on the same system as JRun.
This may be due to other software I have running on my JRun server system, but it finally works.
For those that are still having problems with self-signing applets, here is a batch file, that I am using, that works for me.

Problem with Image I/O and applet

I am having trouble using Image I/O to load a PNG image in an applet. I am just using a very basic applet that simply loads the image from a URL and that's it, and the exception I get is -
java.lang.SecurityException: Unable to create temporary file

It seems the line
bi = ImageIO.read( url );
fails. Can't see anything else. Perhaps this method needs to create a temp image for some reason, and tries to do this at the local harddrive (not allowed). Use getImage(URL, String); instead. ImageIO isn't intended for applets, I think, so you should use the applet methods.
